COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Mary Ann Mills, 68, of Baxter, were held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Hedwig cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Mich. Mrs. Mills died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born March 21, 1941, in Detroit, Mich., to the late William James and Ann Turowski Stark. Mrs. Mills attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She was a homemaker.

Her family includes her husband, Carl Mills of Baxter; a stepson, Robert Mills of Baxter; a daughter, Darla Mills of Baxter; a stepdaughter, Shelia Mills of Baxter; a brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Antionett Stark of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Nell Vinson of Baxter and Ruby and James McHenry; two nieces, Lisa Stark Schulze of Mesa and Beth Stark Snapp; and a grandchild, Corey Mills of Baxter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Lloyd Vinson Jr. Father Chad Puthoff, S.D.S. officiated at the services. Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville is in charge of arrangements.

Melissa Owen
BUFFALO VALLEY -- Funeral services for Melissa Owen, 48, of Murfreesboro, were held at 11:00 a.m. today, Monday, Feb. 8, at Buffalo Valley Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Jared Family cemetery. Mrs. Owen died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Melissa was a member of Wards Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a 1980 graduate of Upperman High School.

Her family includes her mother, Betty Jared of Brush Creek; her husband, Jimmy Owen of Murfreesboro; three sons, Michael Owen, Jay Sanders and Jared Owen, all of Murfreesboro; a brother, Michael Jared of Cookeville; a sister, Marsha Rogers of Pulaski; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Jared, and a sister, Debra Jo Jared. Bro. Morgan Wallace and Dr. Wesley Henry officiated at the services. Arthur Taylor
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Arthur (Pappy) Taylor, 78, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Aaron's Chapel cemetery in Overton County. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 8, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Mr. Taylor died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his home, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., to the late James and Myrtle Parsons Taylor. Mr. Taylor was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He worked at General Motors in Detroit for more than 16 years. He was a licensed emergency medical technician. He worked several years with the Overton County Ambulance Service and retired from the Putnam County Ambulance Service in 1993, with more than 17 years of service. Mr. Taylor was a member of Oak Hill Methodist Church, Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F&AM, York Rite Masonic Bodies and Al Menah Shrine Temple "Pappy" was a loving son, husband, father and brother. His family would like everyone to know that, although he wasn't an avid hunter, fisherman or golfer, he was a passionate storyteller.

His family includes his wife of more than 54 years, Girdean Savage Taylor (whom he married Dec. 19, 1955, in Cookeville); two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Donna Taylor and Keith and Terri Taylor, all of Cookeville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Jones of Rickman and Teresa and John Young of Deland, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Allison, Jessica and Zachary Taylor, Hillary Carnel and husband Charles, Melissa Hammock and husband Terry, Robbie Matthews, Danniel Young and wife Ashley and Cole and Amber Young; and five great-grandchildren, Abby, Madison and Brooke Hammock, Tyler Young and Sunday Watson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Clara Taylor, and two brothers, Bill Leo and James (Junior) Taylor. Pallbearers will be J.T. Bennett, Junior Watts, David Lalone, Robbie Matthews, Eddie Haynes and Freddie Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Putnam County Ambulance Service and Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F&AM. Memorial donations may be made Shriners Hospitals for the Children, c/o Al Menah Shrine Temple, P.O. Box 78545, Nashville, TN 37207. Rev. Lynn Bullock will officiate at the services.

George Ledbetter
ALGOOD -- Funeral services for George Ledbetter (Sgt. Maj. (Ret.)), 77, of Algood, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from the Algood Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will be in Algood City cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, and from 11 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Ledbetter died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Myrtle Matheny
MISSOURI -- Funeral services for Myrtle Matheny, 100, of St. Louis, Mo., were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, at Baue Funeral and Memorial Center Chapel, 3950 West Clay Street, St. Charles, MO, (636) 946-7811. Interment icon was in St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Matheny died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010. She was a cofounder of Matheny Heating & Cooling and a member of Gateway Church of the Nazarene, formerly the Wellston and Bridgeton Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school and was very active in home missions.

Her family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Preston Figge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Matheny, Tom and Julie Matheny and Rob and Nancy Matheny; 11 grandchildren, Beth Wade, David Figge, Joe, Jon, Ryan and Laura Matheny, Robin Ford, Stephanie Herndon, Michelle Eberlin, Sarah Stolker and Luke Webster; 17 great-grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters, Casto, Woodrow and Oliver Jackson, Pruna Idhe, Ada Schippers and Dean Fox. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Pearl Jackson; her husband, Oliver R. (Bob) Matheny; a grandson, Allen Matheny; two brothers, Hershel and Clarence Jackson; and a sister, Una Taylor. Tony Barnhill
ALABAMA -- Funeral services for Ret. Lt. Col. Tony Barnhill, 63, of Gurley, Ala., were held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Church of the Nativity in Huntsville, Ala. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery. The current waiting list for his burial there indicated that it will be about March 31, 2010. Mr. Barnhill died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, from injuries sustained in a head-on motor vehicle accident. He was a native of Starkville, Miss., and the son of William Barnhill and the late Clauise Barnhill.

He served for 20 years in the Army and National Guard. He taught ROTC in Alaska, and started the ROTC program at Buckhorn High School near Huntsville. He taught the ROTC students there for 11 years. Mr. Barnhill graduated from the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He was assigned to return there and teach two years in the school afterwards. Lt. Col. Barnhill was an artillery officer and served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He received a Purple Heart in Vietnam. After the start of the Iraqi Freedom War, Lt. Col. Barnhill agreed to return to the Army as a civilian inspector of artillery units throughout U.S. military bases, such as those in Korea, Germany, Ft. Sill, Fort Drum, etc. Those were inspected for combat prepardness. Tony loved his family, God and country. He had a passion to collect and restore MG cars as well as some Mercedes and Corvettes. Through his contacts to secure parts and to sell cars, he made countless friends in the U.S. as well as around the world. Mr. Barnhill and his family resided in Cookeville for a short time while he was an employee of GTE. He completed an MBA at Tennessee Tech. When he went out of the military, he still had a desire to be a part of the military and returned to finish his retirement.

His family includes his wife of 40 years, Jerri Owens Barnhill, who was badly injured in the accident and is improving but remains in the Huntsville hospital. The accident was near Huntsville. His family also includes a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Jeff Lisenby of Birmingham, Ala., and a grandchild, Will Lisenby of Birmingham. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Delmer and Bernice Owens.

James Howard Guinn
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for James Howard Guinn, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from the chapel of Cookeville Funeral Home, with full military honors. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 9, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Guinn died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 22, 1922, in Jackson County to the late John H. and Cansadie Bryant Guinn.

Mr. Guinn was retired from Acme Boot Company and was a member of Pippin Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, cherished father and pa. He was an avid visitor to the sick. He served as a Medical Corpsman in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II. His family includes his wife of 63 years, Ellen Guinn of Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Fred Vaughn of Cookeville; a grandson, Justin Vaughn of Camden; a sister-in-law, Martha Guinn of Mississippi; a niece, Pam Reynolds of Mississippi; a great-niece, Deanna Reynolds of Mississippi; a host of cousins; and special caregivers Pat Jones, Shelia Phelps and Wayne Ballard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Guinn.

Pallbearers will be David Fox, Joe Smith, Bob Rich, Jearl Ballard, Wayne Mahaney, Donnie and Robin Meadows, Justin Vaughn and Randy Phelps. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Smith, Dennis Peek, Harold and Eddie Frizzell, Roger Mayberry, Truman Fox and Randall Swallows. Memorial donations may be made to Sycamore Church of Christ Building Fund, or Happy Haven Home for Children. Bros. Randy Bybee, Johnny Fox and Kevin Daughrity will officiate at the services.

Katie Evelyn Gambrell Maxwell

COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Katie Evelyn Gambrell Maxwell, 82, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maynard cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 9, and from 7 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Maxwell died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Buffalo Valley to the late Charlie and Flora Etta Crawford Gambrell. Mrs. Maxwell was a homemaker.

Her family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ronnie Anderson of Cookeville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Wanda Maxwell of Silver Point, Freddy Maxwell of Cookeville and Michael and Kim Maxwell of Baxter; grandchildren and spouses Natasha and Shayne Judkins, Greg and Rachael Maxwell, J.J. and Tina Maxwell, Justin and Ginnie Maxwell, Jeff and Jennifer Maxwell, Brent and Jan Anderson, Christy Maxwell Kolath, Sondra and Phillip Tharp and Marti and Jason Beaty; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special family member, Pat (Trish) Maxwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold (Pood) Maxwell; a son, Billy Charles Maxwell; a sister, Emogene Gambrell; and a grandson-in-law, Lloyd Kolath. Pallbearers will be J.J., Justin and Jeff Maxwell, Shayne Judkins, Phillip Tharp and Jason Beaty. Bros. Myron Greer and Charles Burgess will officiate at the services.

Pauline Virginia Miller
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Pauline Virginia Miller, 88, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 9, and from noon until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Miller died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Bethesda Health Care Center. She was born March 8, 1921, in Plymouth, W.Va., to the late Edward Levi and Goldie Mae Smith Craigo. Mrs. Miller was a riverboat cook for more than 30 years before retiring and was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Her family includes three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra M. and L.P. Scott and Melody R. and Steve Hickey, all of Baxter, and Denise W. and Darren Carter of Cookeville; four granddaughters, Bethanie R. Hickey and Dannyce R. and Kiersten A. Shuster, all of Cookeville, and Marissa B. Hickey of Baxter; four grandsons, Jason L. and Craig A. Scott and Matthew A. Hickey, all of Baxter, and Kenny Ray Shuster of Cookeville; two great-grandsons, Cayden J. Hickey and Bryson M. Clemons, both of Cookeville; and two cousins and their husbands, Betty A. and Mickey Michelotti of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Peggy A. and Robert Harville of Cookeville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jackson Miller; a daughter, Louawana Smith; and a sister, Mary Francis Painter. George Ledbetter SGM USA (Ret.)
ALGOOD -- Funeral services for George Glen Ledbetter SGM USA (Ret.), 77, of Algood, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from the Algood Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Algood City cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 9, and from 11 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Ledbetter died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 19, 1932, in the Willow Grove Community of Clay County to the late George C. and Ida Cyphers Ledbetter. Mr. Ledbetter was a member of Algood United Methodist Church.

Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) Ledbetter began his military career in the Army in 1950, serving in both the Korean War and Vietnam War before retiring from active duty in 1977. Following his retirement, he was manager of Bowling World for five years and an associate of Lowe's for 14 years. His family includes his wife of 57 years, Brenda Ledbetter (whom he married Jan. 31, 1953, in Algood); a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Michelle Ledbetter of Baxter; six grandchildren, Brittany, Lisa and Richard Ledbetter, Kasondra Brown, Whitney Choate and Josh Waite; a great-granddaughter, Rebekah Brown; two sisters, Evelyn Blough of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mayme Jo Hicks of Algood; and his mother-in-law, Hessie Hicks of Algood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michael and Tera Ledbetter; his loving father-in-law and brother-in-law, Harley Hicks and Jamie Hicks; six sisters; and two brothers. Mrs. Stafford died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

A.K. Booher
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Artice Kelso (A.K.) Booher, 83, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Booher cemetery in Overton County. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Booher died suddenly Friday evening, Nov. 13, 2009, at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Overton County to the late Willard Rexie and Mae Wright Booher. Mr. Booher was a 1950 graduate of Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (TTU) with a BS degree in agriculture science. He was a retired district manager for Rural Conservation and Development with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Booher attended First Christian Church in Livingston. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 46.

His family includes his wife of 61 years, Edna Groce Booher (whom he married March 19, 1948, in Rossville, Ga.); a son, Randy Booher of Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jim Feeman of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Brant Feeman and wife Andrea of Macon, Ga., Kimberly Furdell and husband James of Seattle, Matt Booher and wife Laura and Kristin Booher, all of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lurine Little of Wahoo, Neb., and Tonita Preston of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Pallbearers will be the Veterans Honor Guard. Revs. Matt Booher and Dee Wells will officiate at the services.

Helena Heinzman

Helena L. Heinzman, 72, of Algood will be held at a later date at Noblesville Church of the Nazarene in Noblesville, IN. Burial will be in the Crownland cemetery in Noblesville.

Visitation will be held in Cookeville on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2-5pm at Cookeville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Heinzman passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at her home.

She was born in Lewis Township, IN on June 1, 1940 to the late Harley and Genevieve Kress Lucas.

Helena managed the cafeteria of Stoney Creek Elementary in Noblesville for 23 years. She was a long time member of Noblesville Church of the Nazarene in Noblesville prior to moving to Tennessee in 1996, where she then became a member of the Cookeville Church of the Nazarene.

Her survivors include; Husband of 53 years, William “Bill” C. Heinzman of the home; Daughter, JoAnna and Aaron Champley of Arcadia, IN; Son, Steven C. Heinzman of Algood, TN; Grandchildren, Ashley Champley and Steve Hall of Rossville, IN, Aaron Michael Champley of Arcadia, IN; Great-grandchildren, Steven James Hall, Blaine Davidson Hall and Alyson Nikole Hall; and step great-grandson, Kamdin Hall.

Trudy Zilpha (Thompson) Barlow

Funeral Services for Trudy Thompson Barlow, 91, of Cookeville will be conducted at 1pm Saturday, January 19, 2013 from the chapel of Presley Funeral Home (formerly Cookeville Funeral Home) with Rev. Richard Bond officiating. Burial will be in the Algood City cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 18 from 4-9pm at the funeral home and again on Saturday, from 9am until the time of the service.

Mrs. Barlow passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at NHC of Cookeville.

She was born on September 21, 1921 in Overton Co. to the late James Elmer and Anna Dale Thompson.

Mrs. Barlow was a member of Algood Cumberland Presbyterian . She worked for GMC during WWII building motors for military tanks. She had worked at the CM clothing in Cookeville and she also worked at the Senior Citizens Center in Algood for a number of years. However, most of her life she was a homemaker and mother. She always put others before herself and most of her time was spent helping those who had needs.

Mrs. Barlow is survived by; 1 daughter, Helen and Jerry Swift of Cookeville; 4 sons, William Barlow of Cookeville, David and Margaret Barlow of Christiana, TN, James and Diane Barlow of Smyrna, TN, Louie Barlow of Murfreesboro, TN; 3 sisters, Ruby Smith of Rickman, TN, Villa Maxwell of Hilham, TN and Marcella Lancaster of Livingston, TN; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; Husband, Hugh Barlow; 2 daughters, Diane Barlow and Wanda Hawkins; brothers, Sherman Thompson, Freeman Thompson, Clifton Thompson; sisters, Bessie Smith, Mary Lou Kottong, Norma Smith and Veechel Stringfellow.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

David Lawrence Eldridge

David Lawrence Eldridge, 64, of Cookeville went to be with the Lord suddenly on Saturday Morning, January 19, 2013 at the Emergency Room of Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mr Eldridge was born November 17, 1948 to Robert Lee and Bonnie Louise Eldridge.

David chose cremation and no services will be held at the Presley Funeral Home.

He was survived by his son, David (Shane) Eldridge, of Cookeville.

Presley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
