Donald Eugene Porter
Memorial services for Mr. Donald Eugene Porter, 67, were 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Pond Presbyterian Church. Reverend Paul Picard officiated. The remains were cremated. Taylor Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Mr. Porter died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. Born in Madison, Tenn., he was the son of Ruby McLerran Porter and the late Leonard Porter. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Pond Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include mother, Ruby McClerran Porter of Dickson; son, Jack Porter of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Jenny Porter Mutschler of Germany; two brothers, Richard (Dick) Porter of Dickson, Noel Porter of Zion, Ill.; sister, Linda Berard of Dickson; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua and Justin; a great-grandson.

Joseph R. Powell
Funeral services for Mr. Joseph R. Powell, 83, of Dickson, Tenn., were 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Dickson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Stuart cemetery. Brother Warren Medley officiated.
Mr. Powell died Monday, April 7, 2003 at NHC Health Care in Dickson. A native of Walholla, S.C., he was the son of the late Jim Powell and Freida Breeden. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include daughter, Donna Adams of Lebanon; son, Larry Hutcheson of Brentwood; a sister of Walholla, S.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Raymond Register
Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Register, 71, of West Nashville, formerly of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn., are noon Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Pettus-Owen and Wood Funeral Home in Nashville. Burial follows in Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery. Brother Sam Brown will officiate.
Mr. Register died Monday, April 7, 2003.
Survivors include wife, Mary E. Register; son, Keith Register, and his wife, Nancy; brother, Louis Register; sisters, Letty Taylor and Mahala Gregory; grandchildren; Haley and Meridith Register.

Annie Meatrice Stovall Richardson
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Meatrice Stovall Richardson, 87, were 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s cemetery in McEwen, Tenn. Reverend Ray Woodall officiated.
Mrs. Richardson died Friday, April 4, 2003 at home in Dickson. A native of Bardwell, Ky., she was a retired meat cutter with Swift and Co. in East St. Louis, Ill. and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Her parents, Frederick Clay and Annie Stovall Richardson, preceded her in death. Her husband, Ivan D. Richardson, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary D. Parker of Collinsville, Ill. and Emma Burgess of Dickson; a son, Ivan “Gene” Richardson, and his wife, Rose of Belleville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Terry Burgess, Mark Parker, Don Parker, Terry Dye, Timothy Parker, Dusty Richardson, Richard Richardson, Vincent Richardson, Kristi Franklin and Vicki Dawkins; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Myrtle Lorene Hagood Simmons
Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Lorene Hagood Simmons, 81, of Clarksville, formerly of Dickson, Tenn., were 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Dickson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Pleasant View cemetery. Pastor Raymond Jones Jr. officiated.
Mrs. Simmons died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Gateway Hospital in Clarksville. A native of Dickson, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William Hagood and Eliza Holland Hagood. Her husband, Carney Simmons, a daughter, Linda Hasley, and a granddaughter, Donna Hasley, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Louise McCaughan of Berea, Ky., Patricia Gearhart of Clarksville; brother, Robert Hagood of Burns, Tenn.; grandchildren, Patrick McCaughan of Cookeville, Shawn McCaughan of Kalamazoo, Mich., Shannon Niswander of Nicholasville, Ky., Kara Roberts of Clarksville, Samantha King of Fenton, Mich., Sandra Osborn of Charlotte, Tenn.; 10 great-grandchildren.

Learia Mae Travis
Graveside services for Mrs. Learia Mae Travis, 90, are noon Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at East Dickson cemetery. Taylor Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Travis died Friday, April 4, 2003 at Dickson County Nursing Home. A native of Henry County, Tenn., she was a restaurant cook and a member of the St. James AME Church.
Survivors include sister, Mary Wiley Russell of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law, Leonard Jackson, also of Columbus; and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Jane Catherine West
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Jane Catherine West, 73, of Bon Aqua, Tenn., were 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003 at McCown home in Fairview, Tenn. Harpeth Hills Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. West died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at her daughter’s home in Fairview. James O. West, her husband of 57 years, preceded her in death. A daughter, Brenda Evans and a son, Joey West, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy McCown, and her husband, James; sons, Jim West of Hawaii, Justin and John West of Alaska, Joel West of Bon Aqua; brothers, J.E. Bozarth of Germany, Bob Bozarth of Illinois, Marvin Boazarth of Kentucky; sisters, Ester Hatten of Broken Arrow, Okla., Dolly Kiplinger of Missouri; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

Raymond Paul White
Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Paul White, 65, were 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson. Burial followed in Dickson Union cemetery. Brother David Peeler officiated.
Mr. White died Friday, April 4, 2003 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Born in Lawrence County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Elbert and Estelle Love White. He was a retired dock worker with Yellow Freight. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with four years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union #480.
Survivors include wife, Maxie Polk White of Bon Aqua; son, Joe White of Dickson; four daughters, Sherry Rochelle and Janet Tidwell, both of Dickson, Pam Minton of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Roy White of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Charles White of Fayetteville, Tenn.; a sister, Dixie Keeter of Ethridge, Tenn.; eight grandchildren.

Lou Dean Staggs Butler
Funeral Service for Lou Dean Staggs Butler, 72, are 2 p.m. Friday, June 20 at the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson Tenn.
Brother Jerry Butler will officiate. Interment icon will follow in Williams cemetery in White Bluff. Service is under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.
A native of Maury County, Tenn., she was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Elmon and Myrtle Weaver Staggs, and a son, Willie Steven Butler. She was retired from Environmental Services with the former Goodlark Medical Center in Dickson and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors are: her husband, James Dudley Butler of White Bluff, Tenn.; her son, James Burgess Butler, also of White Bluff; four sisters: Willodean Irelan of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; Joyce Cocke of White Bluff; Mary Elizabeth Smith of Ethridge, Tenn.; and Nancy Schrader of Summertown, Tenn.; one brother, Romie Staggs of Ashland City, Tenn.; two grandchildren, James Aaron Butler and Callie Jean Butler.
Harold Charles Hess

Graveside services for Mr. Harold Charles Hess, 80, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Dickson, Tenn., is 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003 at Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Pegram, Tenn. Reverend Dan Otto will officiate. Taylor Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
Mr. Hess died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Florida. A native of Shenandoah, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles A. and Martha Pettit Hess. His wife, Bessie Marie Hess, also preceded him in death.
He was a retired police officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Mr. Hess was a veteran of the U.S. Army, who served in the 702nd Tank Battalion in World War II. Medals he received included the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, in Largo, Fla., and a member of the St. John Lutheran Church Men’s Club, while in Dickson.
Survivors include daughter, Marcy Derfus, of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren, Melissa, Austin, Joslyn and Kristin Derfus.

Shirley Lorraine Watkins Long
Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Lorraine Watkins Long, 65, of Dickson, Tenn., were 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003 at Dickson Funeral Home. Brother Charlie Lowery officiated. Burial followed in Fews Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. Long died Friday, June 13, 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville. A native of Humphreys County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Albert Watkins and Viola Tummins. She was a retired employee of Schrader Co.
Survivors include sons, Phillip Hill, of the Sylvia Community in Dickson County, Jimmy Hill and Kenny Long, both of Dickson; daughters, Susan Malugin of Dickson, Phyllis Hill of Franklin, Tenn., Teresa Hill and Erica Long, both of Dickson; brothers, Bob Watkins of Ooltewah, Tenn., Bud Watkins of Athens, Tenn.; sister, Molene Tummins of McEwen, Tenn.; and 13 grandchildren.

James Herschel Neblett
Funeral service for James (Jim) Herschel Neblett, 78, is 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2003 in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home.
Reverend Bill Barger will officiate. Interment icon follows in Union cemetery. The service is under the direction of the Dickson Funeral Home.
A native of Dickson, Tenn., Mr. Neblett died Tuesday, June 17 in Alive Hospice in Nashville.
His parents, John B. and Augusta Tippit Neblett preceded him in death. He was a retired business manager for Walden Security and served in the U.S. Navy Air Force during World War II.
Survivors are: his daughter, Kathryne Neblett Dewitt of Nashville; sisters: Rhoba Jane Harvey and Martha (Charlie) Neblett Walls both of Charlotte; and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alive Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Gayle Shipley Newton
Mrs. Gayle Shipley Newton, 65, of Charlotte, Tenn., died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at home. She was a retired employee of AmSouth Bank and a homemaker.
The family will receive friends at the Spann Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003.
A private internment service will be held at a later date in the David Newton Family cemetery in Moultrie, Ga. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Spann Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn.
Born November 11, 1937 in Ogden, Utah, she was the daughter of the late Mark A. and Marjorie B. Shipley. Her brother, Rodney C. Shipley, also preceded her in death. She grew up in Reno, Nev., where she attended the University of Nevada. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
An accomplished horsewoman, she was the 1957 Queen of the Reno Rodeo. She and her father bred and trained cutting horses for many years.
Survivors include husband, David G. Newton of Charlotte, Tenn.; sons, Mark David Newton and his wife, Annette, of Marion, Va., Richard Miles Newton and his wife, Karen, of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; five grandsons, David Spencer Newton and Brian Mark Newton of Marion, Va., Richard Scott Newton, Michael Andrew Newton and Adam Shipley Newton of Kingston Springs.
