Funeral services for Mrs. Aletha Ray Mayes, 87, are 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 from the sanctuary of Dickson First United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy West and Rev. Phil Ross officiating. Interment icon will follow in Dickson Union cemetery. Services are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mayes, a homemaker who was born in Dickson County, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2005 at National Healthcare Center in Dickson. She was a graduate of Dickson County High School and attended Falls Business College. She was a member of Dickson First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jack M. Mayes of Dickson; son, Hu M. Mayes and his wife, Sharon of Dickson; daughter, Betty Ray Johnson and her husband, Robert of Dickson; sister, Virginia Hayes of Dickson; grandchildren, Jim Mayes and his wife, Teresa, Patricia Terry and her husband, Bill, June Hyndman and her husband, Steve, Catherine Fearing and her husband, Matt, David Brantly and his wife, Marianne; great-grandchildren, Kayla Mayes, Matthew Mayes, Harrison Terry, Morgan Overton, Jackson Overton, Stephanie Hyndman, Stephan Gearing, Sarah Kate Fearing and Sam Brantly; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert O. and Mabel Watts Ray; and sister, “Lo” Potts.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Caris Health Care.

Fletcher Whitaker Jr.

Funeral services for Fletcher Whitaker Jr., 74, were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 from the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with Dr. Lowell Roddy officiating. Interment icon followed in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Whitaker died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Dickson Lodge #468 and the Al Menah Temple.

Survivors include daughters, Lisa Wells and her husband, Ken of Dickson and Trevenia Jones and her husband, Steve of Burns; son, Fletcher Glenn Whitaker and his wife, Johnna of Burns; brothers, Oscar Whitaker and his wife, Sandy of Mansfield, Ohio, Charles Whitaker and his wife, Betty of Lake City and James Whitaker of Clinton; sisters, Annie Cagle of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Opal Ward and her husband, Ward of Lake City; grandchildren, LeOma Nichole Wells, Samantha Brianne Wells, Lanae Blythe Whitaker, Glenna Danielle Whitaker, Catlin Elizabeth Jones and Robert Fletcher Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Joyce Eldridge Whitaker; parents, Fletcher and Stella Elizabeth Garner Whitaker; sisters, Meldia Violet, Mamie Nodine, Ruth Kirk and Eva Lynn; and brother, Claude Whitaker.

Betty Ruth Adams Bateman

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Ruth Adams Bateman, 77, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 from the chapel of Spann Funeral Home with Rev. George Adair officiating. Interment icon will follow in Edgewood cemetery.

Mrs. Bateman of Dickson died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005 at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Horace David Bateman of Dickson; daughters, Barbara Baker of Dickson and Melissa Bowlus and her husband, Jeff of Austin, Texas; brother, Neal Adams of Dickson; sister, Anne Conaster of Hendersonville; grandchildren, David Baker, Timothy Graham, Shane Ryan Bowlus and Kylie Bree Bowlus; three great-grandchildren, Bradley Baker, Bo Baker and Allysa Graham; and son-in-law, Dave Graham of Bodfish, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Hardy and Daisy Hogue Adams; and brother, Harry Adams.

Bertie Lee Cannon Dudley

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertie Lee Cannon Dudley, 76, were Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 at Humphreys County Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Suddeath officiating. Interment icon followed in Petty cemetery in Hickman County.

Mrs. Dudley of McEwen died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005. She was born Nov. 18, 1928 in Hickman County. She was a member of McEwen Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Dudley of McEwen; sons, Tom Dudley of Dickson and Rick Dudley of Bon Aqua; daughters, Carol Dudley of Dickson and Barbara Dudley Whitt of Linden; five brothers; four sisters; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis M. Cannon and Jenny Petty Cannon.

Kathleen Ouellette

Mrs. Kathleen K. Ouellette, 64, of Charlotte died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Her remains were cremated. Spann Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her son, James Bertram of Florida; daughter, Karen Spicer of Charlotte; brothers, Robert Kessler of Virginia and Bayard Kessler of California; and grandchildren, Asa Spicer and Robert Spicer, both of Charlotte.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Margaret Ann McClain

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Ann McClain, 55, are 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 from the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home with Gene Brown officiating. Interment icon will follow in Hall cemetery in Burns.

Mrs. McClain of Dickson died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at NHC in Dickson. She was born Aug. 18, 1949 in Nashville. She was a clerk for the state of Tennessee and a member of Pomona Church of Christ.

Survivors include her mother, Josephine Law of Burns; daughter, Tammy Hammer and her husband, Michael of Burns; brother, Tom Law and his wife, Joan of Long View, Wash.; sister, Barbara Betts of Dickson; and grandchildren, Maria Ball and Brianna Hammer, both of Burns.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David McClain; and father, Walter Law.

Louise McFarlin

Funeral services for Mrs. Louise McFarlin, 85, were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Artie Collins officiating. Interment icon followed in Hilltop cemetery.

Mrs. McFarlin of Lyles died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was born Feb. 22, 1919 in Lyles. She was a retired seamstress with Wilson Manufacturing and a member of Clearview Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons, Ray McFarlin of Florence, Ala., and Jackie McFarlin of Lyles; brothers, Bob McGahey of Waverly and Claude McGahey of the Coble community; and sister, Clara Allen of Lyles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde McFarlin; and parents, Robert Granville McGahey and Inis (Estes) McGahey.

Edith Marie Plunkett

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Marie Plunkett, 72, were 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005 at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Bill McDonald officiating. Interment icon followed in Plunkett cemetery.

Mrs. Plunkett of Lyles died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 at her home. She was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Centerville. She was a homemaker and a member of Nunnelly Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons, James Ronald Plunkett of Dickson and Richard Eugene Plunkett of Dickson; daughter, Peggy Marie Harrington of Bon Aqua; brothers, Wallace Harrington of Centerville, Edward Sullivan of Nunnelly and Charles Sullivan of Centerville; sisters, Martha Ferguson of Lyles, Betty Gilmer of Dickson, Mary Leviner of Bon Aqua and Janice Martin of Lyles; stepsister, Jean Beebe of Palm Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James William Plunkett Jr.; daughter, Darlene Plunkett; and parents, Clifford Harrington and Emma Louise (Hickman) Harrington.

Edward Henry Prosser

Funeral services for Mr. Edward Henry Prosser, 91, were 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 from the chapel of London Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Interment icon followed in Head Springs cemetery.

Mr. Prosser of Dickson died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 in Waverly Healthcare. He was born Dec. 7, 1913 in Marshall County.

Survivors include his son, Bobby Prosser and his wife, Bettye of Dickson; granddaughters, Marzee Woodward and her husband, W.D. of Murfreesboro, Melody Baker and her husband, James of Tacoma, Wash., Melinda Lanza and her husband, John of Murfreesboro, Mitzi Dunkley and her husband, Ernie of Murfreesboro and Mandy Prosser of Dickson; 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kristin Woodward, Joshua and Bethany Baker, Morgan, Mackenzie and Mason Lanza and Devin, Dashiell and Dallin Dunkley; brother, Joe Prosser of Moore Haven, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Pauline Durand of Lewisburg and Margaret Lee of Beech Grove; brothers-in-law, Edwin (Buddy) Whorley of Lewisburg and Coy Simmons of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Ruth Whorley Prosser, who passed away Aug. 30, 1985; parents, Edward (Edd) Henry Prosser and Bertha Francis Petty; and siblings, Grace, Ward, Pet and Lee.

Nannie Louise Baker Spann

Funeral services for Mrs. Nannie Louise Baker Spann, 92 were 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Paul McGahey officiating. Interment icon followed in Greenwood cemetery near Charlotte.

Mrs. Spann, a retired machine operator with the former Red Kap Garment Co., died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005 at Centennial Medical Center. She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include her son, J.D. Spann and his wife, Susie of Charlotte; brother, Austin Baker of Charlotte; sister, Margaret Duke of Dickson; three grandchildren, Craig Spann, Lisa Spann Williams and Melba Spann Pentecost; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Spann; grandchild, Patricia Spann Sesler; brother, Joe Baker; sisters, Lorraine Heinz, Belle Sensing, Mary Bowker and Bertha Lee Rayburn; and parents, Austin and Florence Bowker Baker.

Joseph Ronnie Sweeney

Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Ronnie Sweeney, 45, were 1 p.m. from the chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Bro. Chad Cranfield officiating. Interment icon followed in Hillsboro-Leipers Fork cemetery in Williamson County.

Mr. Sweeney died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. He was an employee of A.O. Smith in Ashland City.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Ruby Joan Sweeney Kimbro and Edward R. Kimbro; brothers, James L. Sweeney of Dickson, Timothy Sweeney and his wife, Tammy of Charlotte and Stephen Sweeney of Charlotte; nieces, Tiffany Sweeney, Angela Rhodes and April Stacey; nephews, Joshua D. Sweeney, Joshua Heath, Cody Heath, Michael Richardson and Stephen C. Sweeney.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Sidney Sweeney.

Charlotte Marie Jackson Walker

Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Marie Jackson Walker, 46, are 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at St. John Lutheran Church in Burns with Rev. Nathan R. Jansen officiating. Interment icon will follow in Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Mrs. Walker’s remains will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Walker died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at her mother’s home. She was born in Oknulgee, Okla. She was a homemaker and worked at Cryo Surgery Inc. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her sons, David Walker of Dickson and William Walker of Dickson; mother, Mary Crozier Jackson of Dickson; and brother, Herb Jackson of White Bluff.

She was preceded in death by her father, Collins Jackson; and brother, William Jackson.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
