Artie McConnell

Funeral services for Mrs. Artie M. McConnell, 95, were 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at Wessels & Wilk Funeral Home in Pleasant Ridge, Mich., with Rev. Dennis Paulsen officiating.

Mrs. McConnell of Southfield, Mich., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at her home. She was born in Dickson County Aug. 13, 1909. She enjoyed bowling and gardening.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David McConnell, who passed away in 1985.

Zelpha Looper Murphree

Funeral services for Mrs. Zelpha Looper Murphree, 89, were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 from Thomas McAfee Funeral Home in Greenville, S.C., with Bro. Donnie Hutcheson officiating. Interment icon followed in Graceland cemetery in Greenville, S.C.

Arrangements were handled by Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson and Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Murphree, a native of Greenville, S.C., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at National Health Care in Dickson. She was a retired LPN and a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Charles H. Murphree and his wife, Anne of Dacula, Ga., and Thomas E. Murphree and his wife, Barbara of White Bluff; two grandchildren, Scott Murphree and Rhonda Albert; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Murphree, Brandi Caskey and Kayle Carmouche.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Verner Murphree; and parents, John T. and Mary Rice Looper.

Ronald Brooks Parker

Funeral services for Mr. Ronald Brooks Parker, 41, were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 from the White Bluff Chapel of Dickson Funeral Home in White Bluff with Rev. Victor Rodriguez and Rev. Gary Riley officiating. Interment icon followed in Williams cemetery.

Mr. Parker of Nashville was born in Dickson County on Jan. 7, 1961. He died Dec. 4, 2004 in Nashville.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Christine Parker of White Bluff; grandmother, Mrs. Maude Foriest of White Bluff; brother, Donald Parker and wife, Pamela of Pleasant View; and niece, Amanda Parker of Martin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Brooks Parker.

Kathryn Colvin Rung

Funeral services for Mrs. Kathryn Colvin “Kitty” Rung, 53, were 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Les Williams officiating. Interment icon followed in Dickson Union cemetery.

Mrs. Rung, retired administrative assistant with the Department of Human Services, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 in Alive Hospice in Nashville. Born in Riverside County, Calif., she was a member of Jason Chapel Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband, George B. Rung Jr. of Dickson; daughter, Margaret Colvin of Dickson; son, Christopher S. Colvin and his wife, Stephanie of White Bluff; sister, Mary Beth Boher of Dickson; granddaughter, Caroline M. Colvin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Colvin; and parents George James and Carol D. Selby Johnson.

Memorials may be made to Tennessee Donor Services.

Charles Satterfield

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Satterfield were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro. Interment icon followed at Jones Hill cemetery in Watertown.

Satterfield of Murfreesboro died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004. He was born Feb. 3, 1934 in Knoxville to Cass and Elsie Mae Satterfield. He was a craftsman.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; son Mike and his wife, Debbie and grandchildren, Kate and Quinten; daughter Myra Farmer and her husband, Paul and grandchildren, Ben, Ethan and Sadie, all of Bloomington, Ind.; son, David Gardner and his wife, Dawn of La Pol, Ind.; and daughter, Dawn Key and her husband, Rod and grandchildren, Colton and Olivia of Murfreesboro.

Satterfield was the second of 10 children. His surviving siblings are Phyllis, wife of Everett Kirkland of Vanleer; Libby, wife of Delbert Corbin of Columbia, Ky., Laverne, wife of Tom Selby of Sarasota, Fla., Mary, wife of Bill Walsh of Rocky Mount, Mo., Carolyn Hays of Dickson; Edward Satterfield, husband of Mary Ann of McEwen; Pam, wife of Lee Brown of Vanleer; and Kathy, wife of John Boyers, of Vanleer.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lesley Ann Chadwell Satterfield; and brother, William.

All who wish to celebrate Charles’ life are encouraged to send memorial gifts to Hospice of Murfreesboro in gratitude for providing comfort to him and his family.

Margaret Buchanan

Funeral services for Margaret S. Buchanan, 91, of Dickson are 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005 from the chapel of Spann Funeral Home with Bro. Joel Plunkett and Bro. Bill Hawkins officiating.

Mrs. Buchanan died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at Baptist Hospital.

Survivors include two brothers, James Ray Buchanan of Morley, Mich., and Henry Hunter Buchanan of Dickson; and eight nieces.

Memorials may be made to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Dickson County Rescue Squad, Dickson County Public Library and Lifelong Learning Center or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Catherine Weakley Cunningham

Funeral services for Catherine Weakley Cunningham, 96, were 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Brooks and Rev. Roy West officiating. Interment icon followed in Vanleer cemetery.

Mrs. Cunningham died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at National Health Care Center in Dickson.

She was a retired teacher from the Dickson County School System with more than 30 years of service. She was a graduate of Austin Peay State University, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Vanleer United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Harry Cunningham and wife, Peggy of Vanleer; three grandchildren, Luanne Brown, James Harry Cunningham Jr. and Jason Steward Cunningham; four great-grandchildren, Spencer Daniel Brown, Leslie Ann Brown, Rachael Cunningham and Olivia Cunningham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Cunningham; parents, Jesse Perkins and Addie Guerrin Weakley; and sister, Emily Pauline Wall.

Memorials can be made to Alive Hospice or to the Vanleer School Library.

Samuel Jerome Field

Funeral services for Samuel (Sam) Jerome Field, 79, were 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Rev. Roy West and Bro. Carter Elmore officiating. Burial followed in Dickson Union cemetery.

Mr. Field, a retired Dickson County dairy farmer, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. A native of Dickson County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Ethel Seymore Field. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Baptist church in Dickson.

Survivors include his sons, Jerome P. Field and his wife, Linda of Strawberry Plains, Daniel G. Field and his wife, Sherry of Nashville and Robert L. Field and his wife, Lisa of Dickson; brother, Jim Field of Dickson; grandchildren, Jared P. Field of Strawberry Plains and Daniel J. Field of Nashville; step grandchildren, Bryan Barkley of Knoxville and Samantha Tonucci of Uncasville, Conn.; three step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtha Pack Field; sister, Bettye Field; and brothers, Gene Field, Marshall Field and William D. (Bill) Field.

Jane Hedge

Funeral services for Jane Southerland Hedge, 69, were 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Rev. Roy West officiating. Interment icon followed in Dickson County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hedge, a homemaker, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Centennial Medical Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Delton Ray Hedge of Dickson; two sons, Mark E. Hedge of Dickson and Stephen L. Hedge of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; two brothers, Jessie Franklin Southerland and his wife, Mary of Nashville and James W. Southerland and his wife, Loy of Joelton; sister, Ann Southerland of Nashville; and four grandchildren, Kevin Hedge, Chris Hedge, Seth Hedge and Megan Hedge.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Wayne, Lee and Michael Hedge; and parents, Jessie Franklin and Lela Stephenson Southerland.

Hilarey Eugene Hudgins

Funeral services for Hilarey Eugene Hudgins, 71, were 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Brother Danny Tidwell officiating. Interment icon followed in Tidwell New Hope cemetery.

Mr. Hudgins died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center. He was born in Hickman County. He was a truck driver and artist and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wheeler Hudgins of Bon Aqua; three sons, Curtis Dwayne Hudgins and wife, Angel of Dickson, James Michael Hudgins and wife, Shelly of Ortonville, Mich., and Dennis Kevin Hudgins of Dickson; one daughter, Rhonda Kathleen Hudgins of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Caroline Terrin of Redlands, Calif., and Delores White and her husband, Dan of Bon Aqua; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Leona Goins Hudgins.

Lawrence John Karpinski

Lawrence John Karpinski, 59, of Dickson died Friday, March 11, 2005 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. His remains were cremated. Spann Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his son, David John Karpinski of Palmer, Mass.; sister, Mary Ann Vecchiarelli of Ludlow, Mass.; special friend, Joan Vigras of Dickson; and one grandchild.
