Carolyn Ann Holt Sims

Funeral services for Carolyn Ann Holt Sims, 43, were 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 from Franklin Memorial Chapel. Interment icon followed in Johnsons Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Sims, a homemaker from Cumberland Furnace, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson.

Survivors include her husband, James Douglas Sims of Cumberland Furnace; parents, William Lee and Rosie Holt of Franklin; son, George Lucas Jernagin of Shelbyville; brothers, William Holt and Milton Holt; and sisters, Irene Irvin and Angela Skinner.

Mary Ussery

Funeral services for Mary Alice Dickson Ussery, 94, are 1 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Rev. Harriet Bryan officiating. Interment icon will be private in Dickson Union cemetery.

Mrs. Ussery, a native of Houston County, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at National Health Care Center in Franklin. She was a 1928 graduate of Yellow Creek High School. She held a B.A. degree from Union University. A retired teacher, she began her 42-year teaching career in a one-room school, Trinity, in Houston County. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and had been associated with the Brentwood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Ussery Newman of Brentwood; sister, Sarah Dickson of Vanleer; grandchildren, Brad Miles, Ann Miles, Alice Miles Walker, Phil Newman, Tracy Newman Hearn, Carl Clark and David Clark; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Robert Ussery; two daughters, Sue Ussery Clark and Ann Ussery Miles; parents, J.N. and Mable Wyatt Dickson; and brother, James Nolie Dickson.

Iva Lee Allison

Funeral services for Mrs. Iva Lee Allison, 65, were Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Bro. Leon Edwards officiating. Interment icon followed in Rock Church cemetery.

Mrs. Allison died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was a mother and homemaker. She was born in Indiana and raised in Powell, Tenn. She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna Teal Thompson and her husband, Mike of Dickson, Vicky Teal of Centerville and Carol Teal Staggs and her husband, Gary of Dickson; brother, Don Allison of Oregon; sisters, Ruth Riggan of El Centro, Calif., and Teresa Oliver of Dickson; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; great aunt, Zelma Ruth Mahler and her husband, Vic of Halls Crossroads, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Verna Metcalf Allison; brother, Glenn Allison; and sisters, Rebecca, Wilma and Debbie.

Matthew Tyler Bright

Funeral services for Mr. Matthew Tyler Bright, 23, are 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Dickson Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Bright and Bro. Bill Spencer officiating.

Visitation with the family is Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Interment is in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens on Thursday, March 3, 2005 after a 1 p.m. funeral service at Parrot and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville, Ky.

Mr. Bright of Smyrna died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1982 in Campbellsville, Ky. He was a student.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Terry W. Bright and Katheryn Bright of Dickson; mother, Gail Williams Bright of Smyrna; grandmother, Audrey Bright of Campbellsville, Ky.; maternal grandfather, Jerry Williams and his wife, Catherine of Campbellsville, Ky.; maternal great-grandmother, Lera Williams of Campbellsville, Ky.; girlfriend, Lindsey Davis of Smyrna; twin half-brothers, Travis and Trevor Bright, both of Providence, Ky.; stepbrother, Jerad Mangrum of Bon Aqua; twin stepsisters, Anndrea Eubanks and her husband, Daniel and Angie Frazier and her husband, Mike, all of Bon Aqua; uncles, Jay Williams and his wife, Melissa, Edwin Bright and his wife, Shirley and Jimmy Bright, all of Campbellsville, Ky.; aunt, Judy O’Bannon and her husband, Bob of Florence, Ky.; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lloyd Bright; and maternal grandmother, Zola Williams.

Lester Leon Collins

Funeral services for Mr. Lester Leon Collins, 79, were 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Artie Collins officiating. Interment icon followed in Bon Aqua Church of Christ cemetery.

Mr. Collins of Bon Aqua died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. He was a self-employed watch repairman and played wheelchair basketball with the Nashville Wheelcats for 25 years.

Survivors include his son, Ronnie Collins of Burns; brothers, Artie Collins of Hohenwald and Owen Collins of Flint, Mich.; sisters, Lois Sanders of Dickson and Jewel Hamm of Nashville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Buchanan Collins; and parents, E.E. and Martha Baker Collins.

Susie Jane Gower

Funeral services for Mrs. Susie Jane Gower, 73, are 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Dickson Funeral Home with Rev. Roy West officiating. Interment icon will follow in Union cemetery.

Mrs. Gower of Dickson died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at her home. She was born in Dickson County July 16, 1931. She was a retired cashier clerk with Dickson Electric Company.

Survivors include her sons, James Robert Gower of Brentwood and Todd Gower and his wife, Wanda of Dickson; sister, Ann Myatt Stroud of Dickson; four grandchildren, Jeanna Suzanne, Jim, Jada and Jennifer Gower; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Patricia Gower.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adelbert Glen and Mary Elizabeth Dotson Myatt; and son, Delbert Eugene Gower.

Christine Moss Lankford

Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Moss Lankford, 76, were 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Bro. David Peeler officiating. Interment icon followed in Willow Springs cemetery in Hickman County.

Mrs. Lankford, a homemaker, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at Centennial Medical Center. She was born in the Lyles community and was a member of Clearview Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Clifton Lankford of Lyles; daughters, Patty Sisk and her husband, Jimmy of Lyles and Debbie Lankford of Hendersonville; grandson, Kevin Sisk of Lyles; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed Franklin and Anner Jewel Warren Moss.

Ken Lee

Funeral services for Mr. Ken Lee, 51, were Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at Lone Oak cemetery in Marshall County. Arrangements were handled by Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Mr. Lee, a paramedic with the Hickman County Emergency Medical Service, died unexpectedly at Marshall Medical Center in Lewisburg on Tuesday, Feb. 15,2005. Lee, who lived in the Verona community of Marshall County, was an emergency medical responder for three decades. He operated Frontier Taxidermy in Verona.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Ann Hazlett Lee; mother Wanda Nicely Gavette and stepfather, Bob Gavette of Rochester Hills, Mich.; sons, Jeremy Lee and Jason Lee, both of Lewisburg; sister, Kathy Walls of Vanleer; brothers, Kevin Lee and Keith Lee, both of Michigan; and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to the Marshall County Memorial Library.

Doris Sue Caldwell Madden

Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Sue Caldwell Madden, 83, were 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Cullom officiating. Interment icon followed in Dickson Union cemetery.

Mrs. Madden, a retired machine operator at the former Henry I. Siegel Company, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at Summit Medical Center. She was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Hawkins and her husband, Bobby of Old Hickory; sister, Ann Wolfe and her husband, Dan of Nashville; sister-in-law, Bettye Caldwell of White Bluff; grandchildren, Paula Lansford of Lebanon, Jeffrey Hawkins and his wife, Candice of Mt. Juliet, Pamela Preston of Old Hickory; and great-grandchildren, Jensen, Blake, Kayden, Tanner and Bryson.

Hubert Murphy

Funeral services for Mr. Hubert W. Murphy, 89, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 from the chapel of Spann Funeral Home. Interment icon will follow in Union cemetery in Dickson.

Mr. Murphy of Charlotte died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2005 at his home. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and loved farming and civil engineering.

Survivors include daughters, Frances Annette Shrader of Clarksville and Margaret Ethel Coone of McEwen; sons, Doyle Murphy of Charlotte, William Frank Murphy of Clarksville and Brian Walker of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Evelyn Frazier of Oak Ridge, Anna Belle Stokes of Vanleer, Henrietta Foster of Slayden and Ethel Reeves of Dickson; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia White Murphy; parents, James Edwin Murphy and Henrietta Jobe Murphy; son, Harris Neil Murphy; and sisters, Mildred Murphy and Kate Ann Sands.

David Newton

David G. Newton died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005. His remains will be interred at the Newton Family cemetery in Norman Park, Ga. Arrangements were handled by Spann Funeral Home.

Survivors include his sons, Mark and Rick and their wives, Annette and Karen; five grandsons, David, Brian, Scott, Michael and Adam; and mother, Opal Benton Newton of Norman Park, Ga.

The first born of a south Georgia farming family, Dave was, by turns, a farmer’s son, athlete, cold warrior, journalist, filmmaker and businessman. He taught bomber crews how to survive in the wilderness if shot down. He was midwife to the bass fishing industry.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Gayle.

Ishmael Diaz Ruiz

Mr. Ishmael Diaz Ruiz, 23, of Dickson died Saturday, Feb. 2005 at Horizon Medical Center. A funeral will be held in Mexico at a later date.

Mr. Ruiz was born in Chiapas, Mexico.

Survivors include his parents, Juan Diaz and Minerva Ruiz Hernando of Chiapas, Mexico; brothers, Juan Diaz Ruiz of Florida, Sebastian Diaz Ruiz of Dickson and Ediberto Diaz Ruiz, David Diaz Ruiz and Delfino Diaz Ruiz, all of Mexico; and sisters, Elizabeth Diaz Ruiz, Ermelinda Diaz Ruiz and Maria Diaz Ruiz, all of Mexico.

Dickson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Laverne Adel Pine Sweeney

Laverne Adel Pine Sweeney, 78, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. Her remains were cremated. No services are planned.

Mrs. Sweeney, a housewife, was born in Plant City, Fla.

Survivors include her son, Robert James Sweeney of Dickson; daughter, Kathleen Sweeney of Long Island, N.Y.; sister, Helen Bretell; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Joseph Sweeney; and parents, Herbert and Nellie Fisher Pine.
