Earl Warren Leech

A service of remembrance for Lt. Col. Earl Warren Leech, 70, is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Bro. Robert Cullom officiating.

Lt. Col. Leech of Franklin died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at his home. He was a native of Charlotte and a graduate of Charlotte High School. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy. He was the recipient of a bachelor’s degree in business management from Tennessee Tech University and later earned an MBA from Old Dominion University.

He served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Army, beginning his military career with the 101st Airborne Division. He served part of that time as aide-de-camp to Gen. W.C. Westmoreland. He served two tours in Vietnam, serving as company general of the Joint Security Area in Panmunjom, Korea. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he started a career in banking with First American Bank in Nashville, where he retired as senior vice-president with 20 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Pike Leech of Franklin; son, William (Bill) Warren Leech of Nashville; daughter, Lee Ann Padgett and her husband, Lucas of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; grandchildren, Lucas Joseph Padgett and Anne Warren Padgett; nieces, Rebecca Leech and Katie Leech; nephew, Will Leech; special cousin, Judy Redden of Dickson; and cousin, Sam Whited Jr. of White Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge William and Lucy Speight Leech; and brother, William McMillan Leech Jr.

Jerry Warren Little

Mr. Jerry Warren Little, 73, of Dickson died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at his home. At his request, there were no funeral services. Arrangements were handled by Dickson Funeral Home.

Mr. Little was born Jan. 2, 1932 in Lexington, Ky. He was a former security guard at Goodlark Hospital.

Survivors include his sister, Judith Novelle of Lexington, Ky.; son, Keith Little and his wife, Thea Ann of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sallie Peeler Long

Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie “Tommie” Peeler Long, 102, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at Dickson Funeral Home with Bros. John Holland and Don Loftis officiating. Interment icon will follow in Union cemetery.

Mrs. Long died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 at Peachtree Nursing Center in Smyrna. She was born June 20, 1902 in Dickson County. She was a member of Old Hickory Church of Christ for 65 years.

Survivors include her son, Nollie Thomas Long Sr. and his wife, Joanie; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Rives Long; grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth Long Faulkner, Eleanor Jane Cook and her husband, Harold, Nollie Thomas Long Jr. and his wife, Linda, Teresa Dianne Johnson and her husband, Rodney, Susanna Kay Crow and her husband, Tommy and Walter Rufus Long and his wife, Lara; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tenor Thomas Long; and son, Rufus E. Long.

Leroy Clinton Palmore

Funeral services for Mr. Leroy “Pete” Clinton Palmore, 56, are 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at the Fairview Chapel of Dickson Funeral Home with Revs. Ron Becton and Mike Richenbacher officiating. Interment icon follows in Old Hudgins cemetery.

Mr. Palmore of Fairview died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. He was born Jan. 28, 1949 in Williamson County. He was a waves consumer.

Survivors include his brothers, Jackie Palmore of Primm Springs, Dennis Palmore of Mt. Juliet and Leon Palmore of LaPuente, Calif.; sisters, Delores Starkey, Etta McCord, Dorothy Ivey, Loretta Taylor, Ellean Rodgers and Mary Binkley, all of Fairview and Judy Strayn of Champagne, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillian Palmore; and brother, Billy Palmore.

Emogene Springer Sanders

Funeral services for Mrs. Emogene Springer Sanders, 87, were 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Rev. Alexander Gaston officiating. Interment icon followed in East Dickson cemetery.

Mrs. Sanders died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at Veterans Medical Center in Durham, N.C. She was a native of Dickson. She was affectionately known by family and friends as “Happy Jack” and later as “Aunt Gene.”

She received her early education in Dickson County and graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville. She received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Tennessee State University in Nashville and Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. She taught school 41 years and retired from the Dickson County Board of Education. She was a member of the Tulip Chapter #191, Order of the Eastern Star, NAACP, Colored Women’s Federated Club, National Education Association and a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was the first African-American woman from Dickson County to join the U.S. Army-Women’s Auxiliary Corp. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include her son/nephew, Billy Michael Childress and his wife, Velez of Durham, N.C.; granddaughters, Shashone Childress and Kiah Childress; nephew, Billy Gene Childress and his wife, Wilma of Dickson; loving care provider, Mrs. Kim Henderson of Durham, N.C.; cousins, Linnie Gibbs, Dorothy Jackson and Evonne Dunn; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Alan Keith Sullivan

Graveside services for Mr. Alan Keith Sullivan, 31, were 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at Maple Leaf cemetery with Rev. Grafton Robinson officiating. Funeral arrangements were handled by Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor, Wash.

Mr. Sullivan of Seattle, Wash., died at his home Feb. 1, 2005 from a sudden illness. He was born in Nashville on Dec. 1, 1973. He had been a resident of Seattle for the past seven years.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1992 and earned an associate of applied science degree in film production in 2004. He worked at Home Depot as a pro accounts sales associate.

Survivors include his parents, Joanne and Arnie Deckwa of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Richard Sullivan and Linda Bernstorf of Nashville; grandparents, Wallace and Viola Sullivan and Milbry B. Jenkins, all of Dickson; sisters, Karen Griffith and her husband, Craig of Visalia, Calif., and Laurie Ann Deckwa of Ballard, Wash.; brothers, Scott Deckwa and his wife, Lisa of Coupeville, Wash., Shawn Deckwa of Oak Harbor, Wash., Matt Renegar of Murfreesboro and David Renegar and his wife, Alicia of Murfreesboro.

Edna Warf

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Warf, 91, were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Bill McDonald officiating. Interment icon followed in Oakmont cemetery in Centerville.

Mrs. Warf of Burns died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was a retired factory worker at Levi Strauss and a member of Burns Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son, Charles Warf of Burns; daughters, Peggy Sullivan of Burns and Beverly Fletcher of Gallatin; stepsons, Buford Warf of White Bluff and W.C. Warf of Lyles; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benton Warf; and parents, Henry and Sally Mae Luckett Waters.

Mira Catherine Hinck

Funeral mass for Mrs. Mira Catherine Hinck, 81, is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2005 from Stephens Mortuary in Indianapolis, Ind. Entombment will follow in Calvary cemetery in Indianapolis. Arrangements by Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson and Stevens Mortuary in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Hinck, a retired supervisor of housekeeping with Marriott in Indianapolis, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 in National Healthcare Center in Dickson. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son, Tom Burson and his wife, Ethel of Dickson; brothers, James Gillespie, Harlan Gillespie and Gerry Gillespie, all of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jon Thomas and Matthew and Ashley Burson; and great-grandchild, Taylor.

Garry Neil Travis

Funeral services for Mr. Garry Neil Travis, 49, are 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 from the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home with Brother Bobby Devane officiating. Interment icon will follow in Union cemetery.

Mr. Travis, born in Ft. Rucker, Ala., and employed by Dominos Pizza, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005 at his home.

Survivors include his father, William Howard Travis of Dickson; mother, Joyce Dean Travis of Charlotte; sister, Vickie Dawson and her husband, Douglas of Dickson; half-sister, Jenny Wesson and her husband, Greg of Dickson; nephew, Kevin Cranfield; and several other nieces and nephews.

Mary Etta Tucker

Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Etta Tucker, 75, were 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at Dickson Union cemetery in Dickson with Warren Medley officiating. Services were under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tucker, a retired salesperson, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at National Healthcare Center in Dickson. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Howard P. Tucker of Dickson; daughter, Amber D. Proctor and her husband, Mike J. of Bellevue; stepson, Micah J. Proctor of Nashville; niece, Penny Jones and her husband, Danny of LaVergne; great-niece, Jorie Jones of LaVergne; and great-nephew, Jeremy Jones of LaVergne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Marjorie Parchment Rockey; and sister, Jimmie F. Rockey.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Julia Lewis Gardner

Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Lewis Gardner, 60, were 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Rev. Larry Forester and Rev. Belvin Cox officiating. Interment icon followed in Dickson County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Gardner died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at her home in Burns. She was a 1962 graduate of Dickson High School. She was very active in the 4-H Club. She received a bachelor’s degree in home economics in 1966 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She taught school in El Paso, Texas, while her husband was in the military service. She taught home economics and teen living for 31 years at Charlotte Middle School.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Gardner of Burns; son, Steve Gardner and his wife, Sherry of Tompkinsville, Ky.; daughter, Marian Gardner of Burns; brother, Curtis Lewis of Dickson; sisters, Dorothy Nell Bruce of Dickson and Rita C. Finley of Clarksville; and grandchildren, Logan Gardner and Kaitlyn Gardner.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Gardner; and parents, Addisson Roosevelt and Mary Walker Lewis.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Gethlyn Gardner Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Gethlyn Gardner Sr., 83, were 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Bro. Steve Baggett and Bro. Clarence DeLoach officiating.

Additional services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at Ryan Funeral Home in Madison, Wis. Interment icon followed in Oak Lawn cemetery in LaVelle, Wis. Services were under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson and Ryan Funeral Home in Madison, Wis.

Mr. Gardner died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. He was a retired operating engineer with the State of Wisconsin. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 14th Armored Division. He was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ in Dickson.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Fussell Ladd Gardner of Dickson; son, Robert Gethlyn Gardner Jr. and his wife, Ruth of Houston, Texas; daughter, Monte Wilson and her husband, George of Ogden, Utah; stepdaughters, Judy Ragan and her husband, Steve of Burns and Barbara Seekins and her husband, Lloyd of Madison, Wis.; brother, Fay Gardner of Reedsberg, Wis.; sisters, Eleanor Ingles of Iowa and Joyce Haas of Elk Grove, Calif.; five grandchildren, Andrew Wilson, Lisa Wilson, Jason Gardner, Julie Gardner Katrib and John Gardner; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Benjamin Wilson; stepgrandchildren, Margaret Shelton and Cynthia Ragan Martin; and step great-grandchildren, William Berkermeier and Ashley Shelton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur E. and Ruby Good Gardner; and his first wife and mother of his children, Opal Smiley Gardner.

Memorials may be made to the Walnut Street Church of Christ Building Fund, American Lung Association or Dickson County Public Library.
