Willard Franklin Guire

Funeral services for Rev. Willard Franklin Guire, 79, of McEwen are 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Dickson Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Jeanette officiating. Interment icon will follow in Nosegay cemetery.

Rev. Guire died Monday, May 2, 2005 at his home. He was born May 19, 1925. He was a brick mason and Church of God of Prophecy minister.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Guire of McEwen; sons, Joe Guire and his wife, Shirley of McEwen, Johnny Guire of McEwen and James “Jim” Guire and his wife, Donna of Carthage; daughters, Joan Black and her husband, Horace of Ponchatoula, La., and Janice Cathey and her husband, Delbert of Dickson; sister, Ginger Jackson of Spencer, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lois Harris Guire; and son, Jerry Guire.

Howard Wayne Robison

Funeral services for Howard “Buddy” Wayne Robison, 64, of Erin were 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Dickson Funeral Home with Bro. Calvin Parker officiating. Interment icon was in Union cemetery.

Mr. Robison died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Trinity Hospital in Erin. He was born Oct. 4, 1940. He enjoyed country music and dancing. He helped set up equipment for the Earl Moore and the Gents band. He was employed as a delivery helper in the beverage industry.

Survivors include his daughters, Lola Ann Robison and Treva Denise Weaver, both of Burlington, Iowa; brother, Roy Robison and his wife, Edith of Lyles; and sisters, Wilma Mills and her husband, Ralph and Ruby Traughber and her husband, Bob, all of Hopinksville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lola Yates Robison; and brother, James Edward Robison.

Elizabeth Roby

Funeral services for Elizabeth Roby, 92, were 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2005 from Schmid Funeral Home in Mt. Washington, Ky. Interment icon followed in Mt. Washington, Ky., cemetery. Services were under the direction of Schmid Funeral Home in Mt. Washington, Ky.

Mrs. Roby died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was born in Spencer County, Ky., to William Allen Roby and Ollie B. Hughes Roby on Oct. 17, 1912.

She was a member of King’s Baptist Church in Mt. Washington.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Sweazy of Dickson and Everett Sweazy of Jeffersontown, Ky.; sister, Hazel Kirsch of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Sweazy; son, Vernon Sweazy; and second husband, Burr Roby.

Memorials may be made to King’s Baptist Church in Washington, Ky.

James Henry Woodard

Funeral services for James Henry “Pop” Woodard, 91, of Dickson were 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005 from the chapel of Spann Funeral Home with Bro. Donny Hutcheson officiating. Interment icon was in Union cemetery.

Mr. Woodard died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson.

Survivors include a son, Joe Woodard of Dickson; two grandchildren, Todd Woodard of White Bluff and Ronnie Woodard of Mississippi; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Woodard and Jessica Woodard, both of Mississippi.

Kim Grayson Menke

Memorial services for Kim Grayson Menke will be held Monday, May 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Montgomery Bell State Park. Family and friends will gather at the park entrance pavilion. The speakers will be Allan Kerns, Billy Miller and Shelby Rye.

Mr. Menke, an assistant district attorney with the 23rd Judicial District, died Thursday, April 28, 2005.

He graduated from Oak Ridge Junior-Senior High School in Orlando, Fla., in 1965. He was a 1969 graduate of Wake Forest University, where he was a member and president of Theta Chi fraternity.

After moving to Nashville in 1971, Menke worked with Traveler’s Insurance Co. and later with the Whirlpool Corporation. He received his J.D. degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1979.

In 1980 he began working as an attorney for the law firm of Howell and Fisher in Nashville. In 1984 he began practicing law with Allan Kerns in Dickson. He worked with Kerns and others for several years before beginning work as an assistant district attorney.

Menke was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and Tennessee Attorneys General Conference. In addition to his law practice, he served on the Dickson City Council from October 1987 to October 1991. He was active in the Dixie Youth Softball Association and served as a soccer referee for the Dickson Youth Athletic Association.

Survivors include his daughters, Kristen Elizabeth Menke of Memphis and Emily Anne Menke of Nashville; father, retired Lt. Col. Edward Harry Menke of Marietta, Ohio; brother, Mark Menke of Marietta, Ohio; sisters, Deborah Menke and her husband, Tom Berlin of Bethesda, Md., and Susan Menke of Annapolis, Md.; nephews, Gabriel and Michael Berlin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and closest friend and companion, Kay B. Welton of Dickson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Hayes Menke.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Dickson County Public Library. Services are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

Cecil Elizabeth Wills

Funeral services for Cecil Elizabeth Wills, 76, were 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson. Interment icon followed in the Wills cemetery.

Mrs. Wills, retired from the former Red Kap Garment Company, died Monday, May 2, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her brother-in-law, Roy Thompson of Dickson; grandson, Curtis Wills of Dickson; granddaughter, Gloria Nash of Franklin; cousins, Frances Hamilton and Sue Wills; and several nieces and nephews.

Donna Lane Byrn

Donna Lane Byrn, 61, of Dickson died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Miss Byrn was a registered nurse for Tennessee Christian Medical Center for a number of years.

Survivors include one son, Thomas “Tom” Byrn and his wife, Nikki of Dickson; mother, Bessie McDonald Smith of Chatom, Ala.; brother, Jerry Lane of McIntosh, Ala.; sister, Lamoyne Hearn of Chatom, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Walker and Dakota Byrn of Dickson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Lane.

Mary Francis Douglas

Funeral services for Mary Francis Douglas, 77, were 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Brother John Lankford officiating. Interment icon followed in Dickson Union cemetery.

Mrs. Douglas, a homemaker, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was born in Dickson County to the late W. J. and Virginia McColphin Tollinger on April 21, 1928. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son, Mike Burgess and his wife, Cathy of Dickson; two grandchildren, Michael Burgess of Dickson and Jenny Jones of Waverly; and eight great-grandchildren.

James Glenn Fussell

Funeral services for James Glenn Fussell, 89, were Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment icon followed in Chattanooga National cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Fussell, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, died Sunday, April 17, 2005. He served more than 30 years in the Air Force. He was born Dec. 12, 1915 in Dickson.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Kelley Fussell of Harrison; son, James Glenn Fussell Jr. of Orrington, Maine; daughter, Mary Margaret Fussell Dykes of Stone Mountain, Ga.; five grandchildren, Army Capt. James Glenn Fussell III, currently deployed in Afghanistan, Genevieve Elizabeth Fussell of San Francisco, Calif., Samuel Hawkins Dykes of Rome, Ga., Delia Johnson Dykes of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Charles Joan Fussell of Orrington, Maine; and sister, Margaret Isabella Fussell of Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Fussell and Gloria Tidwell Fussell; sister, Willie Mae Fussell Setliffe; and brother, Leland Tidwell Fussell.

George Ashley Mays Jr.

Funeral services for George “Bill” Ashley Mays Jr. are 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005 at Crossroads Church of God of Prophecy with Bro. Richard Neal and Bro. Gary Riley officiating. Interment icon will follow in Reed cemetery. Dickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mays, a brick mason, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Nashville.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Reed Mays of Ashland City; sons, Jerry Mays, Alan Mays and his wife, Ruth and Jack Mays and his wife, Lori, all of Ashland City; daughter, Carole Rainey and her husband, Eddie of White Bluff; brother, John Mays and his wife, Debbie of Cumberland Furnace; sisters, Lorene Lowery of Hendersonville, Marie Callis of Knoxville and Ruby Roberts and her husband, Charles of Bon Aqua; stepsisters, Jewel Kelley and Mary Lois Bales; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. Sr. and Louise Miller Mays.

Danny Russell West

Memorial services for Danny Russell West, 52, of Burns are 1 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2005 from the chapel of Spann Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Riggs officiating. Visitation will be May 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mr. West died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Survivors include his wife, Becky West of Burns; sons, Michael Trey West of Antioch and Matthew Justin West of Windsor, Pa.; mother, Eudrice West of Mt. Juliet; sisters, Linda Biles and her husband, Gene and Cathy Toombs and her husband, Paul, all of Mt. Juliet; sister-in-law, Betty Carol West of Hendersonville; nieces, Lisa Schlosser of Mt. Juliet and Christy Brown of Hendersonville; nephews, Russell Biles of Bellevue, Wash., and Kerry Wayne West of Hendersonville; and many other great-nephews and a great-niece.

Mr. West was preceded in death by his father, Frank West; and brother, Wayne West.

Memorials can be made to the Vanderbilt Lung Transplant Patients Assistance Fund.

Mary Ruth Burgess

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ruth Burgess, 72, were 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Hagler officiating. Interment icon was in Fews Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Burgess died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. She was a native of Dickson County. She was retired from Wal-Mart and worked for several years at the former Elmore Store as an assistant manager. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lynn and Vicki Fuqua Burgess of Dickson; granddaughters, Nichole Burgess and McKenzie Burgess, both of Dickson; sister, Margie Teston of Dickson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John P. Burgess and Beatrice Mathis Burgess; husband, Paul E. Burgess; and son, Gary Wayne Burgess.
