Edith Ponder Hooper Garton

BRUCETON - Graveside services for Edith Ponder Hooper Garton, 87, were conducted Tuesday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Martin Garton cemetery in Dickson.
Mrs. Garton died Friday, May 13, at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
She was born December 29, 1917, in Jasper, Alabama, to the late James Dallas Hooper and Sibbie Adeline Jones Hooper. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bruceton Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rye Garton, and one son, Kenneth Garton.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Sue Edwards of Centerville and Cheta Williams of Hollow Rock; three sons, Jim Garton of White Bluff, Julius Garton of Huntingdon and Leon Garton of Bruceton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Tye Cobb Sutton
1915-2005
HUNTINGDON - Services for Tye Cobb Sutton, 89, were conducted on Saturday, May 14, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Columbus and Bro. George Sellers officiating.
Mr. Sutton died Thursday, May 12, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born September 23, 1915, in Carroll County to the late Chestley Blye Sutton and Lillian Carter Sutton. He was a retired farmer and logging operator, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a member of Carter's Chapel Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Geraldine Breeden; one son, Odie Sutton; one sister, Raymell Watson; and four brothers: Algie Sutton, Paul Sutton, Clifford Sutton and Hollis Sutton.
Survivors include his wife, Neva Lee Fletcher Sutton, whom he married July 13, 1935; three daughters: Brooxie Kirk, Phyllis Jarrett and Loretta Smith, all of Huntingdon; two sisters, Mary Carroll of Henry and Margaret Pearson of the Terry Community; one brother, John Sutton; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Alice Davis Turman
1921-2005
JACKSON - Services for Alice Davis Turman, 83, were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, in the north chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Brother Drew Brewer of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and Dr. Paul Williams officiating. Interment icon was in Ebenezer cemetery.
Mrs. Turman died Tuesday, May 10, in Jackson.
She was born November 27, 1921, in Madison County, to the late Edgar H. Davis and Bertha Raines Davis of Malesus and was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church. She attended Malesus High School and Lambuth University. She was a retired schoolteacher in Shelby, Madison, and Henry County schools.
Survivors include her son, Fred "Freddy" Turman of Paris; five grandchildren, including Chad Turman of McKenzie; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred G. Turman; a son, David Dale Turman; four brothers: Paul Davis, James Davis, Neely Davis and Woods Davis; and two sisters, Ida Hoskins and Mary Davis.

James G. "Buckey" Brawner
1946-2005
GLEASON - Services for James G. "Buckey" Brawner, 59, were at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at Gallimore Funeral Home. Interment icon followed in Hopewell cemetery.
Mr. Brawner, a machine mechanic for Liggett Corportation, died Friday, May 13, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ward Brawner; two daughters, Monica Jones of Cookeville and Jill Brawner of Gleason; three grandsons; four half-sisters: Linda Sue Coble and Mable Boane of Gleason, Gail Brawner of Dresden and Tammy Perry; and two half-brothers, James Harold Brawner of Greenfield and Tony Brawner of Union City.

Jessie Ernestine Pentecost
1924-2005
McKENZIE - Services for Jessie Ernestine Pentecost, 80, were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, at First Baptist Church, with Bro. Dennis Trull officiating. Burial was in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Pentecost, a homemaker and former Oak Manor Nursing Home assistant administrator, died Tuesday, May 10, at Lakeside Retirement Center in McKenzie.
She was born May 16, 1924, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Walter Ernest Mauk and Naomi Nolan Mauk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Inglenook Book Club, Mary Holmes Sunday School Class, youth director, Girl Scout leader and camp counselor.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Calvin Pentecost; two daughters, Deborah (Henry Borchert) Anderson of McKenzie and Nancy (Larry) Hardy of Elkhart, Indiana; a sister, Donna L. Glogowski of O'Fallon, Illinois; four grandchildren: Laura Noel, Dane Anderson, Alicia Anderson and Lauren Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Noel and Jacqueline Noel.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Stittsworth.

Palmer Lee Barmore
1941-2005
BRUCETON - Services for Palmer Lee Barmore, 64, were conducted Monday, February 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Rufus Anderson officiating. Interment icon followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Barmore died Thursday, February 24, at the Regional Burn Center in Memphis.
She was born January 30, 1941, in Carroll County, to the late Eddie Gene Dupree and Veddie Foulks Dupree. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and an usher. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and two sisters, Addie Mae Harris and an infant sister.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Henry Barmore; two sons, Albert Henry Barmore, III of Bruceton and Michael Lynn Barmore of Huntingdon; four sisters, Eddie Mae Pearson, Jennie McCain, and Avarena Porter, all of Bruceton, and Avalena Newbill of McLemoresville; and four brothers, J.C. Dupree, Manuel Dupree, J.R. Dupree and Eddie Gene Dupree, Jr., all of Bruceton.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel Marie Bush
1924-2005
HUNTINGDON - Services for Hazel Marie Bush, 80, were conducted Monday, February 28, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Simmons and Bro. Jim Holt officiating. Interment icon followed in the Mt. Comfort cemetery.
Mrs. Bush died Saturday, February 26, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
She was born September 23, 1924, in Dollar, to the late Euless Grant Hollowell and Buelah Horn Hollowell. She was a homemaker and member of the New Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn H. Bush; a sister, Hettie Parish; and two brothers, Larie Hollowell and Arden Hollowell.
Survivors include a daughter and son, Dainn Crossett and Harold Grant Bush, both of Huntingdon; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Harry Gambill
1916-2005
EVA: Services for Harry Gambill, 88, were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, at New Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Scott Carter officiating. Interment icon followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gambill died Monday, February 21, at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
He was born March 27, 1916, to the late Harry and Anna Gambill. He was a retired switch engineer for L&N Railroad. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ivene Gambill Dickens and Evelyn Gambill Lambuth.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Mae Gambill; four sons, Henry E. Turner of Ormond Beach, Florida, Marshall O. Turner of Edenton, Georgia, Harold L. Turner of Camden and Larry D. Turner of Eva; a daughter, Martha T. Griffin of Huntingdon; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy 'Dot' Byars Lopez
1936-2005
HUNTINGDON - Services for Dorothy 'Dot' Byars Lopez, 68, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Ed Fisher officiating. Interment icon followed in Long Rock cemetery.
Mrs. Lopez died Saturday, February 26, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1936, to the late Sam Byars and Lorees Bobbitt Byars.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Cooper of Huntingdon, Diane Adams of McKenzie, and Lori Caruthers of Spring Hill; a brother, Carl Byars of Huntingdon; three sisters, Joye Russell of Springville, Iris Fry of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sammie Best of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Louise Thedford Ward
1912-2005
McKENZIE - Services for Mary Louise Thedford Ward, 92, were at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 24, at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tony Janner and Dr. Robert Prosser officiating. Interment icon followed in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mrs. Ward, a retired bookkeeper, died Tuesday, February 22, at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
She was born November 23, 1912, in McEwen, to the late William Alford Thedford and Rena Gregory Thedford. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Circle #3 at the church, and was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She was a 1935 graduate of Bethel College, full-time volunteer in the mail room at Bethel College and a member of the Ornithological Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Louise Ward of McKenzie; a stepson, John R. Ward of Brandon, Mississippi; a brother, Robert Denney Thedford of McKenzie; and a sister, Ruth Thedford Goodman of Trenton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Geoffrey Ward.

Lavinia Merle Snyder
1918-2005
PARIS - Services for Lavinia Merle Snyder, 86, were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 26, at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Jerry W. Massey and Charles Orr officiating. Interment icon followed in the Maplewood cemetery.
Mrs. Snyder was dead on arrival Wednesday, February 23, at Henry County Medical Center.
She was born October 21, 1918 in Paris to the late Edward Petway McFadden and Mary Levinia Roy McFadden. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Paris since November 11, 1927.
Survivors include her husband, Duward Snyder; two sons, Dennis Matlock of McKenzie and Don Matlock of Paris; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Carolyn Wallis and Eleanor Elizabeth McFadden.
