Josie Lillian Carey

McKENZIE - Services for Josie Lillian Carey, 87, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 11, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Vance Rushing officiating. Interment icon followed in Everett's Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. Carey, a retired factory worker, died Saturday, April 9, at McKenzie Health Care.
She was born May 28, 1917, to the late Albert Blount and Emma Morgan Blount.
Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Hampton of McKenzie; two grandchildren, Bobby Hampton and Deborah Laudermilk; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Addie Lee Carey, and a son, Charles Carey.

Rachel Wilson Reaves
1934-2005
McKENZIE - Services for Rachel Wilson Reaves, 71, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Larry DePriest officiating. Interment icon followed in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mrs. Reaves, a retired cook for City Caf', died Wednesday, April 6, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
She was born January 16, 1934, in McKenzie, to the late Len Reaves and Ruth Tegethoff Reaves.
Survivors include a son, Anthony (Janice) Moon of Westport; two daughters, Donna (James) Garner of Huntingdon and Sandra Davidson of McKenzie; two sisters, Evora (Bill) Burnine of McKenzie and Ethel (the late Joe) Cary of McKenzie; one brother, Lendale (Sue) Reaves of McKenzie; nine grandchildren, Richard Jason Moon, Charles Anthony Moon, Heather Moody, Amanda Spencer, Randy Reed, Jennifer Reed, Bradley Reed, Amelia Wilson and Dennis Ricketts; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Lavon Wilson, and a sister, Lottie Ruth Taylor.

James Milton Castleman
1922-2005
MARTIN - Memorial services for James Milton Castleman, 72, formerly of Gleason, were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 7, at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden with the Rev. Jim Pinnell officiating.
Mr. Castleman, a retired laborer, died Saturday, April 2, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Gleason to the late J. Ned and Fay Killebrew Castleman.
Survivors include two brothers, Eddie Castleman of Calera, Oklahoma, and Kenneth Castleman of Paris.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gay Purvis, and a brother, Bennie Castleman.

Billy Rutledge Ellis
1939-2005
GLEASON - Services for Billy Rutledge Ellis, 65, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 4, at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Carr officiating. Burial was in Hopewell cemetery.
Mr. Ellis, a retired K-T Clay heavy machine operator, died Friday, April 1, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was a charter member and former commander of the Weakley County Rescue Squad and a former member of the Gleason Fire Department.
He was born April 4, 1939, in Newbern, to the late Floyd Elmore 'Joe' Ellis and Carrine Rutledge. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Garland Terry Ellis, and two sisters, Frances Bryant and Harriett Argo.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Frances Carrington Ellis; a son, Demo Ellis of Gleason; two daughters, Rae Smith of Gleason and Marta (William) Pate of Dresden; and four grandchildren, Shay Ellis, Devon Ellis, Brelin Smith and Kasie Smith.

James Floyd Williams
1923-2005
PARIS - Services for James Floyd Williams, 81, were conducted at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home. Interment icon followed in Pilgrim's Rest cemetery in Christmasville.
Mr. Williams, a retired maintenance employee for LaSalle Bank of Chicago, Illinois, died on Saturday, April 9, at Henry County Medical Center.
He was born December 22, 1923, in Bradford, to the late Joel Edgar Williams and Novaline Warren Williams. He was a member of the Republican Grove Baptist Church in Trezevant, the Paris Moose Lodge, and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Arrington Williams; two daughters, Carole Williams of Berrien Springs, Michigan, and Sherry Crosno of Paris; two sons, Joel Williams and David Williams, both of Chicago, Illinois; three sisters, Annie Myrl Cooper of McKenzie, Annette Dowland of Bradford, and Linda McDaniel of Gleason; six grandchildren,; and three great-grandchildren.

Virginia Covington Hawkins
1909-2005
TERRYTOWN, NEW YORK: A memorial service for Virginia 'Ginny' Covington Hawkins, 95, was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Reformed Church of Tarrytown. Her ashes will be interred on April 16 in Mt. Olivet cemetery at a graveside service.
Mrs. Hawkins died at her home on February 15 when she succumbed to a second stroke.
Ginny was born May 13, 1909, in McKenzie, to the late Macie Ownby and Charles Waff Covington. She was their only surviving child.
She attended McKenzie High School, Bethel College, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the National Academy of Design in New York City. She married Edward Meredith Hawkins at the McKenzie Presbyterian Church on January 16, 1944.
Mrs. Hawkins was the first female member of the Hackley School in Terrytown where she taught art for sixteen years.
Virginia was a portrait artist and assisted her husband with his commercial art designs.
Survivors include a number of cousins including Doris Hearne Willoughby, Gary Willoughby, and Margaret Perry of Paris. Additional cousins reside in Tampa, Florida, Hillsboro, Texas and Richmond, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, Ginny requested donations be made to Plan International, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, Rhode Island 02886.

Joe Harold Alexander
1933-2005
DRESDEN - Services for Joe Harold Alexander, 72, were held Friday, April 1, at Gallimore Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Auvenshine and Rev. Gene Price officiating.
Mr. Alexander, a retired United States Navy Master Chief, died Tuesday, March 29, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and American Military Society.
He was born February 7, 1933, in Gleason, to the late Ira Alexander and Lula Underwood Alexander. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Alexander; a daughter, Vicki Marie Chappell; a stepson, Bruce Allen Gordon; and a sister, Norma Jean Perkins.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Lynn Alexander of Trezevant, and Jamie Suzanne "Suzie" Alexander of South Hampton, Virginia; a stepdaughter, Amy Gordon of Haverhill, Massachusetts; a son, Terry Wayne Alexander of Greenfield; two stepsons, Eric Gordon of Gleason, and Michael Gordon of Revere, Massachusetts; a brother, Lendell Alexander of Dresden; a sister, Rebecca Verdell of Gleason; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John B. Crawford III
1912-2005
HENRY - Services for John B. Crawford, III, 92, were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Henry Friday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m. Interment icon followed at the church cemetery.
Mr. Crawford died Tuesday, April 19, at McKenzie Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Crawford retired from National Trust Life Insurance Company in Memphis after 25 years of service. During his tenure, he was the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding service. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Henry where he was involved in cattle farming for many years. He was a member of the Masons and Eastern Star, an avid hunter, and a recognized marksman of skeet and trap shooting competition with gun clubs in and around Memphis and Shelby County.
Survivors include his wife, Scyble Agent Crawford; a son, Dr. Gerald L. Crawford (Cindy) of Florence, Alabama; two daughters: Joan Crawford Pritchett (James) of Martin and Mary Catherine Crawford O'Brien (Steve) of Parrish, Florida; four grandsons: Dr. Gerald "Jerry" Crawford, Jr. (Krista) of Florence, Alabama, Dr. Jay Crawford (Stacie) of Texas, Jim Pritchett, Jr. (Suzanne) of Martin, and Kevin O'Brien of Parrish, Florida; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah Crawford, Clint Crawford, Grant Crawford, and Emma Crawford, all of Florence, Alabama; Bo Crawford and J.B. Crawford of San Antonio, Texas; James Pritchett, III and Lydia Beth Pritchett, both of Martin; and one sister, Floy Crawford Ezell of Jena, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Berryman Crawford, II; his mother, Sallie Gilbert Crawford; three brothers: Marvin Crawford, Frank Crawford and Henry Crawford; and two sisters: Ruth Pugh and Ruby Richardson.
McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Howard "Jamey" Appleton
1973-2005
PARIS - Services for James Howard "Jamey" Appleton, 32, were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan with the Rev. Jerry Massey officiating. Interment icon followed in Gibson County Memory Gardens near Milan.
Mr. Appleton, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, was found dead at 7:00 a.m., Sunday, April 17, at his residence.
He was born January 25, 1973, in Jackson to Jim Appleton of King, North Carolina and Debi C. Fry of Atwood, who survive. He was a 1991 Milan High School graduate and a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Memphis and Barry University in Miami. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. He was employed by Henry County Medical Center.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Appleton; grandparents Howard and Yonnie Crider of Atwood and Robert and Joan Appleton of Milan; a stepbrother, Jake Fry of Oakfield, and two stepsisters, Jennifer Yates of Milan and Nichole Fry of Nashville.
A grandmother, Margaret Crider, preceded him in death.

Robert A. Bell, III
1963-2005
NASHVILLE - Graveside services for Robert A. Bell, III were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 25, at Carroll Memorial Gardens with Brother Fred Ward officiating.
Mr. Bell died Friday, April 22.
Survivors include his mother, Jane S. Cole of Huntingdon; his father, Robert Bell, Jr. of Murfreesboro; one son, Jacob Bell and one daughter, Lindsey Bell, both of Pleasantview; three sisters: Debbie Seigfried of Murfreesboro, Pam Edwards of Hendersonville, and Jaynie Cunningham of Kingston Springs; one stepsister, Gina Johnson of Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Ray Brummitt
1932-2005
GLEASON - Services for Charles Ray Brummitt, 72, were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at Gallimore Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Walker and Jim Pinnell officiating. Interment icon followed in Hopewell cemetery.
Mr. Brummitt, retired from Quebec World, died Wednesday, April 20, at Hillview Community Living Center.
He was born September 2, 1932, in Gleason to the late Homer and Mary Heath Brummitt. He was a member of the Gleason Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Gleason Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas Brummitt of Gleason and Jim Brummitt of Henry, and a sister, Jean Pochl of Gleason.
