Barbara Elaine Hahn
McKENZIE - Services for Barbara Elaine Hahn, 52, were Friday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Willie Sawyer officiating. Burial was at St. Johns Church Road.
She died on Tuesday, April 23 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born January 20, 1950 in Newton, New Jersey to the late Eldora Degreat Hahn and Lester V. Hahn.
Survivors include her companion, Terry Franklin of McKenzie, a sister, Nettie Langley of McKenzie and two brothers, Lewis Hahn and Lester Hahn of Oregon.

Zola McAlexander
CEDAR GROVE - Services for Mrs. Zola McAlexander, 89, were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24 at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial at Hickory Flat cemetery.
Mrs. McAlexander died Monday, April 22 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was the widow of Curtis McAlexander.
Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Johnson and Sammie Humphrey and a brother, Warren D. Holder, all of Cedar Grove.

Ruth Vernell Smith
McKENZIE - Mrs. Ruth Vernell Smith, 90, died Thursday morning, April 25 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 27 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rufus Chandler and Brother Scott Carter officiating. Interment icon followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Smith was born September 6, 1911 in Carroll County to the late Homer and Ennie Woods Compton. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Her husband, George Hulon Smith, who died July 2, 1994 and a brother, Ralph Compton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Ellis of McKenzie; two sons, William Smith of McKenzie and Larry Smith of Cumming, Georgia, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Jerry Louis Markham
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Jerry Louis Markham, 60, died Saturday, April 27 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 1 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Post Oak Methodist Church cemetery in Camden.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Markham and their children, Anthony and Jennifer Swackhammer of Ashland City, Amy and Jeremy Haywood of Wildersville, Chad Smarsh of Hollow Rock and Tina Smarsh of Huntingdon and five grandchildren.

Vera Ruth Wright
BRUCETON - Mrs. Vera Ruth Wright, 81, died Sunday, April 28 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Daniel officiating. Mrs. Wright was then transferred to Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City, Mississippi where funeral services and interment icon followed.
Mrs. Wright was born May 5, 1920 in Pittsburg, Mississippi to the late Mitchell and Mammie (Logan) McCormick. She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church in Hollow Rock and a retired factory worker for Henry I. Siegel Company. Her husband, Eugene Wright, who died April 28, 1985, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include five sons, Jimmy Wright and Sherman Wright, both of Huntingdon, Billy Wright of Holladay, Shelby Wright of Herber Springs, Arkansas, and Jerry Wright of Chicknasha, Oklahoma; one sister, Vara Neighbor of Pittsburg, Mississippi; one brother, G.A. McCormick of Houlka, Mississippi; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Lillian Lura Sullivan
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Lillian Lura Sullivan, 88, died Tuesday, April 23 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, April 25 in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Luther Massengill officiating. Interment icon followed in the Parkers Crossroads cemetery.
Mrs. Sullivan was born September 13, 1913 in Decatur County to the late George F. and Pearl Mae (Baker) Patterson. She was a retired factory worker for Publix Shirt Corporation and a member of the Huntingdon Church of God of Prophecy. Her first husband, J.C. Burch, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Delmer Roscoe Sullivan; one son, Joe Thomas Burch of Memphis; one stepson, Willard Sullivan of Huntingdon; two stepdaughters, Mildred Massey of Huntindgon and Bertie Arnold of Camden; one brother, Fred Patterson of Springfield, Illinois; and two sisters, Earline Hammett and Willdoean Davis, both of Huntingdon.

Hollis Wade Barnes
McKENZIE - Services for Hollis Wade Barnes, 91, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 30 at Brummitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Beal officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim's Rest cemetery.
Mr. Barnes, a farmer, died Sunday, April 29 at McKenzie Health Care Center.
He was born August 1, 1910 in Trezevant to the late Lula Ervin Barnes and Hule Barnes. He was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret White of Trezevant and Alice White of Oakland, Mississippi; four sons, Charles Barnes of Henry, Hollis Barnes of Newton Falls, Ohio, David Barnes of McKenzie and William Barnes of Trezevant; two sisters, Callie Mae Thomas of Desert Palm Springs, California and Novella Fry of Oceanside, California; a brother, Oscar Barnes of Huntingdon, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Leota Bateman Hood
HUNTINGDON - Services for Leota Bateman Hood, 95, were at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, at Brummitt Funeral Home with Rev. Malcolm Norton officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery in Trezevant.
Mrs. Hood died Saturday, April 27 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon.
She was born March 2, 1907 in Huntingdon to the late Eunice Drikard Bateman and Elijan Bateman. She was a member of Mt. Comfort Baptist Church in Huntingdon.
Her husband, George Hood preceded her in death.
There were no immediate survivors.

Porter H. Chappell, Sr.
MEMPHIS - Services for Porter H. Chappell, Sr., 88, were at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 26 at Memorial Park Chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. Chappell, a retired marketing representative for Exxon Corporation, died Wednesday, April 24 at his residence.
He was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the Letterman's Club at Southwestern, a member of the Exxon Annuitant Club and a volunteer for MIFA (Memphis Multi-faith Community Association) for over 20 years. He was an educator and coach at South Side and Tredwell high schools.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou Lowe of Memphis; two sons, Porter H. Chappell, Jr. of Memphis and Richard Chappell of McKenzie; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His wife, Charlotte D. Chappell, preceded him in death.

Raymond Edward Novotny
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Raymond Edward Novotny, 51, died Sunday, April 28 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 1 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scott Carter officiating. Interment icon will be in Barren Springs cemetery.
Mr. Novotny was born March 26, 1951 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Andrew and Carol Morgan Novotny. He was a disabled Vietnam veteran and a member of the Barren Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Novotny; two sons, Donald Novotny and Andrew Novotny, both of Martin; two sisters, Lorena Jones of Tallahassee, Florida and Carol Miller of Courtland, Ohio; two brothers, Stewart Novotny of Austintown, Ohio and John Novotny of Pinellas Park, Florida; and two step-grandchildren.

Vivian Yelverton Finch
An esteemed teacher and citizen, Vivian Yelverton Finch of East Main Street, Huntingdon died Saturday, November 23, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Finch in 1987. She is survived by her three children, Carol Finch Gooch of McKenzie, John E. Finch, II of Kalispell, Montana and Janet Finch Milinet of Germantown. She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Finch was born in Faro, North Caroline to David Archie and Mattie Hunt Yelverton. She earned an undergraduate degree from East Carolina University and later a Masters' Degree from Memphis State University. A firm believer in the value and importance of a good education, she took additional courses at Bethel College, Jackson State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Upon arriving in Huntingdon in the late 1940's, she began a long and distinguished teaching career in the Huntingdon Special School District. For over three decades, she enthusiastically taught a variety of high school business and science courses, including biology, chemistry and physics. Her former students include innumerable healthcare providers, attorneys, engineers, educators, and other professionals, many of whom credit her for inspiring their academic and professional achievement. Her contribution to the education of the citizens of Huntingdon is without measure.
A woman of sterling character, Mrs. Finch was known to all in Huntingdon and to many in West Tennessee and beyond. As a firm believer in the virtue of education, she frequently advised her students to get all the education they could. She assured them that education was the key to their future. She was devoted to her family and committed to their education, working two jobs to put her children through college. In addition to teaching, she also worked for over thirty years as a bookkeeper at Wilson's Clinic and later at the R.B. Wilson Medical Center of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Notwithstanding her busy work schedule, Mrs. Finch found time for many community activities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntingdon and the Booklover's Club at the time of her death. In years' past, she had also been very involved with the Women's Club, the Business and Professional Women's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Society.
She was an extraordinary and respected citizen, teacher, guide, mother and friend. We shall miss her terribly, but her legacy lives on with her family and the thousands of lives she touched with her teaching skills.
Services will be Wednesday, November 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church with Dr. Mickey Carpenter and Dr. William Bailey officiating. Interment icon will be at Hopewell cemetery near Gleason. Dilday Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers for the service are Dr. Jerry Atkins, Sam Bailey, Steve Barnett, Richard Gooch, Mayor Dale Kelley, Johnny Radford, Vince Taylor and Gene Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Howard Johns and Frank Taylor.

Elizabeth Grace Harris Barlow
1934-2005
McKENZIE - Services for Elizabeth Grace Harris Barlow, 70, were at 2 p.m. Monday, January 24, at McKenzie Church of Christ, with Bro. Jim Roberts officiating. Burial was in Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Barlow, a homemaker, former co-owner of and advertising salesperson for The McKenzie Banner, died Sunday, January 23, at McKenzie Health Care Center.
She was born July 3, 1934, in Wildersville, to the late Odell Thomas Harris and Albert Lee Harris. She was a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Karl F. Barlow; two daughters, Kristi (Mark) Oakley of Kingston Springs, and Robin (Jeff) Thompson of Henry; a sister, Ruth (Ralph) Bucy of McKenzie; a sister-in-law, Faye Harris of McKenzie; and five grandchildren: Kristen Mann, Alliyah Thompson, Chandler Oakley, Carter Oakley and Henry Oakley.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Harris, and a sister, Onell Bannister.

Chester Henry Rigsby
1918-2005
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Chester Henry Rigsby, 87, of Huntingdon died Monday, January 24, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment icon will follow in the Sellers Hill cemetery. Bro. Dan Winkler will officiate the service.
Mr. Rigsby was born January 18, 1918 in Carroll County to the late Leonard Roscoe Rigsby and Ora (Scott) Rigsby. He was a retired supervisor for the Nashville Electric Service, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Pauline Rigsby, who died August 19, 1998; one brother, Carl Rigsby; and one sister, Virgie Fry.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Beasley (Charlie) of Huntingdon, and Connie Dotterer of Nashville; two sons, Kelly Rigsby (Fran) of Sandwich, Illinois, and Randall Rigsby (Esther) of Goldsboro, North Carolina; two sisters, Iona Lewis of Berwyn, Illinois, and Eler Montieth of Bradenton, Florida, and one brother, John Rigsby of Bemis. He also leaves twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Laborn Parker
1916-2005
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Laborn Parker, 88, of Huntingdon, died Friday, January 21, at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m. at the Parker's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment icon followed in the church cemetery. Rev. Felix Tuggles officiated the service.
Mr. Parker was born November 20, 1916 in Carroll County to the late Felix and Ruby (Staton) Parker. He was called into the ministry in his elderly life and pastored the Christ Baptist Church in Camden. He was preceded in death by one sister, Roxie Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Katherine Parker; one daughter, Lula Mae Melton (Paul) of Wildersville; one son, James A. Parker (Onita) of Huntingdon; six grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
