GLEASON - Matthew Vowell Douglas, 29, died Monday, April 21, at his home. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon with Bro. Dossie Wheatley officiating. Burial followed in Prospect cemetery.
Mr. Douglas was born April 28, 1978 in Jackson. He was a First Mate for United Barge Line and a member of First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Vowell, and his paternal grandparents, James Douglas and Birdie Douglas.
Survivors include: his parents, Darrell and Kay Douglas of Huntingdon; one daughter, Makayla Douglas of Gleason; two sisters, Kathryn Douglas of Nashville, Stephanie (Kevin) Hamlin of Paris; and his maternal grandmother, Margaret Vowell.
JOHNIE FRANKLIN HEDGE

HUNTINGDON - Johnie Franklin Hedge, 72, died Thursday, April 24, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Atwood officiating. Burial followed in Long Rock cemetery.
Mr. Hedge was born September 27, 1935 in Henderson County to the late George O. Hedge and Helen Exell (Goff) Hedge. He was a retired maintenance worker for the Carroll County Highway Department, a Third Degree Mason, a Shriner, and a Baptist by belief. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Lois Hayes.
Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn (James) Steiner of Rolla, Missouri; one son, Mark Hedge of Huntingdon; two sisters, Shirley (Sam) O'Bryan of Cedar Grove and Brenda (Bennie) Swafford of Adamsville; one half-sister, Mary Todd of Clarksburg; and two brothers, George (Karen) Hedge, Jr. of East Tennessee and Gary (Janette) Hedge of Leach; three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
ROY WELDON BAIN

HUNTINGDON - Roy Weldon Bain, 39, died Wednesday, April 23, from injuries he received in an automobile accident. Cremation was performed on April 25 and the family will have private memorial services at a later date.
Mr. Bain was born February 22, 1969 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a Service Guide for Canoe Escape and a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon. He is preceded in death by his father, Thurman Weldon Bain.
Survivors include: his mother, Joan E. Bain of Huntingdon.
OLLIE MARGANIA BOYD
1902 - 2008
HUNTINGDON - Ollie Margania Boyd, 105, died Friday, April 25, at her home. Funeral services were Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Winkler officiating. Burial followed in Palmer Shelter cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was born December 5, 1902 in Carroll County to the late Onnie Hood and Geneva (Montgomery) Hood. She was a housewife and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Levi "Willie " Boyd; one daughter, Lou Willie Boyd; three sisters, Erin Dill, Ruby Lewis, and Gertrude Dill; and one brother, Wylie Hood.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marjorie Cobb of Huntingdon and Robert Nell White of Lowell, Indiana; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

HUNTINGDON - Minnie Avis Williams, 87, died Tuesday, April 22, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were Thursday, April 24, at 4 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Andrew Stokes and Bro. Rufus Chandler officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Church cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born November 15, 1920 in Hardeman County to the late Martin Luther Gatewood and Sue Elizabeth (Galloway) Gatewood. She was a retired seamstress for Henry I. Siegel Company and a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Troy Leadford; her second husband, James Alfred Pruett; two sons, James Alvin Purett and Jerry Alan Pruett; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: her husband, Roger Gid Williams; six daughters, Shirley Sue Pruett, Charlotte Doris (Bill) Kimberlin, Lonetta (Brent) Oatsvall, all of Huntingdon, Alta Lynn (David) Waugh of Gallatin, Jeannie (Dennis) Stokes of Clarksburg, and Elizabeth Ann Pruett of McMinnville; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

BRUCETON - Bonnie Lee Bayless, 77, died Monday, April 28, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Bruceton Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Bayless was born April 8, 1931 in Sawyers Mill to the late William Elliot Hurt and Pearl Turner Hurt. She was a seamstress for H.I.S., member of Bruceton First Baptist Church, Bruceton Order of Eastern Star Adah Chapter #314, and Hollow Rock VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard D. Bayless, Jr.
Survivors include: her husband, Richard "Dick" Bayless, Sr. of Bruceton; two daughters, Rosa Lee Bayless of Murfreesboro and Susan (Bob) Bouldin of McKenzie; one sister, Mary Nell McMackins of Bruceton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ms. Johnson was born May 4, 1938 to the late Lenard Mulberry and Willie D. Barnhill. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Porter; one stepson, Kenneth Hampton; and one sister, Louise Franklin.

LAVINIA - William Dale Williams, 70, died Friday, April 25, at Regional Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Williams was born July 26, 1937 in Huntingdon to the late Andrew Poteete and Clara Mae Scruggs. He was a truck driver for ArcAdian Truck Lines. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Williams.
Survivors include: one sister, Shelley Marie Shaw of New York; and one brother, Harold Williams of Illinois.

ATWOOD - Horace Thomas Taylor, Jr., 81, died Tuesday, April 22, after an extended illness. Funeral services were Saturday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at Bluff Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Milan with Rev. Micheal Day officiating.
Mr. Taylor was born July 6, 1927 in Gibson to the late Horace Thomas Taylor, Sr. and Elvie Reeves. He was employed at the Milary Army Ammunition Plant for 44 years as a heavy equipment operator, was in the United States Naval Service, and was a Deacon of Bluff Spring Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Stevie Lee Nesbitt; one brother, Fred Taylor; and four sisters, Gracie Lee Taylor, Maudesa Reaves, Wilma Hodge and Mary Bell Ivory.
Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Doris O. Mrs. Laster was born November 18, 1910 in Carroll County to the late Elijah and Delila (Rogers) Pickler. She has been a Kalamazoo area resident the past thirteen years and was a member of the 12th Street Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Henderson Laster in 1974; one son, James "Jack" Laster; and one grandson, Ricky Laster.

Mrs. Spain was born January 22, 1932 in McKenzie to the late Floyd Edlin and Daphne Edlin Townsend. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby T. Spain, and Survivors include: two daughters, Marsha (Jerry) Smith of Paris and Carol Godwin of Gleason; one son, Steve Spain of McKenzie; two sisters, Evelyn (Bill) McCain of Franklin and Barbara Winecoff of McKenzie ; one brother, Charles (Phyllis) Edlin of McKenzie; and seven grandchildren, Nick Smith, Sam Smith, Gus Godwin, Grace Godwin, Drew Spain, Taylor Spain and Landon Spain.

DRESDEN - Dorothy Glynn Atkins Owen, 76, died Wednesday, April 23, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Celebration of life services for Ms. Owen were held Saturday, April 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Jolley Springs Baptist Church near Dresden with Dr. Don McCulley, Tony Michael, Michael Simmons and Jerry Wiggins officiating. Burial followed in Butler cemetery near Gleason.
Ms. Owen was born October 13, 1932 to the late Henry Clay and Annie Inez Atkins. She was a former sewing machine operator for HIS. She was a member of Jolley Springs Baptist Church, where she was a WMU member and former director of the WMU. Ms. Owen was also a member of the Central FCE Club. She was a native of Henry County. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Joy Vowell, Ruby Bell, and Ruth Kemp.
Survivors include: five daughters, Linda (Mitchell) Evans of Cottage Grove, Patricia (J.C.) Lowry of Gleason, Pamela (Ronnie) Warman of McKenzie, Diana (Louis) Barker of Southhaven, Mississippi, and Cynthia (Steven) Seamans of Chandler, Arizona; three sons, Tony (Karen) Owen of Salisbury, North Carolina, Kenneth Owen of Gleason, and Bobby (Brenda) Owen of Fulton, Mississippi; two brothers, George Atkins of Paris, and Jerry (Rosie) Atkins of Jonesboro, Georgia; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

PARIS - David C. "Bud" Owens, 83, died Monday, April 28, at his home. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Dr. Joseph A. Geary and Carlos Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Paris.
Mr. Owens was born July 11, 1924 in Springville to the late Claude E. Owens and Mary Williams Owens. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union for 58 years, Elks, Moose, VFW and past member of Good Sams Club, lifetime member of Henry County Saddle Club, and life-long self-employed contractor and land developer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Carel David Owens; two sisters, Sue Olive and Mary Lou Dupes; and three brothers, John Thomas, Jackie and James Rudy Owens.
Survivors include: his wife, Marie Hamlin Owens of Paris; two daughters, Angelia Hart and Daphne Cherry, both of Paris; three sisters, Novella "Sis" Jones of Livonia, Michigan, Margaret (John) Baker of McKenzie, and Carolyn Townsend of Victoria, Texas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
