William Johnson

TRION - William Christopher Johnson, 53, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2007.

He was born Sept. 11, 1953, in Menlo, Ga., to the late James G. Johnson Sr. and Annie Eugenia Johnson. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, the president and chaplain of the Chattooga County Saddle Club, was an avid horse farrier and was a truck driver for Mohawk Industries.

He was survived by his wife, Sue Zanne Johnson, of Trion; daughters and son-in-law, Christie Camp, of Trion, Christina and Kenny Dodd, of Rome, Ga.; brothers, James G. Johnson Jr., of LaFayette, Ga., and John W. Johnson, of Bridgeport, Ala.; sisters, Judy Dale Williams and Brenda Joyce Wilson, both of LaFayette; brother-in-law, John Williams; and five grandchildren, Anna Johnson, Levi, Franki, Cheston and Cameryn Dodd.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Chattooga County Saddle Club in Trion, Ga.

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, LaFayette.

John Smith

CHICKAMAUGA - John Luther Smith, 27, passed away Friday, May 11, 2007.

He was born Jan. 27, 1980, in Fort Oglethorpe. He was of the Christian faith and worked for Top Shop.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Smith; brother, David Bankston; and grandfather, Hollis Smith.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Parrish; stepfather, David Parrish Sr.; brother, David Parrish Jr.; grandmothers, Florence Bankston and Lois Smith; girlfriend, Tiffany Vandergriff; stepdaughter, Calleigh Vandergriff; uncle, Orville Smith; aunt, Elizabeth Ashburn; cousins, Gabriel and Christine Bankston and Matt and Brittany Parrish; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, May 15, 2007, in the funeral home chapel with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating.

Interment will be in Garretts Chapel cemetery.

Family will receive friends after 10 a.m. today until service time at Wilson Funeral Homes, LaFayette Chapel, LaFayette, Ga.

Mildred Valentine

ALPHARETTA - Mildred Brown Valentine, 92, of Edenbrook of Alpharetta, formerly of Atlanta, died Sunday, May 13, 2007.

A former resident of Chattanooga, she was a member of the 1930 graduating class of Central High School. She is the daughter of the late Minnie Blessing Brown and Oscar 'Ott' Brown, of Chattanooga.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Valentine Whitten, of Charlotte, N.C.; sons, Charles M. Valentine Jr., of Seattle, Wash., and James F. Valentine, of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 15, 2007, at the Sunrise Chapel Mausoleum in Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2625 Cumberland Pkwy., Suite 205, Atlanta, GA 30339.

Arrangements are by Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors, Sandy Springs, (404) 255-8511.

Wanda Weaver

CHATSWORTH - Wanda Ann Weaver, 52, died Sunday, May 13, 2007.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home, Chatsworth, which is in charge of arrangements.

Freeman Wells

CHICKAMAUGA - Freeman Wells, 73, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007.

He was born in Walker County, Ga., to the late Ashley F. and Beacie Strickland Wells. He was a lifelong resident of the Chickamauga area and was a member of the Lookout Mountain Quarter Horse Association. He retired from Chattanooga Boiler & Tank Co., where he was a boilermaker and was the former owner/operator of Chattanooga Garage on Rossville Boulevard.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Wells, Connie Ray Wells; daughter, Joy Wells; and grandson, Wesley Helton.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Teresa and Randy Padgett, of Chattanooga, and Janice Wells, of Ringgold, Ga.; sisters, Mildred Dennis, Betty Bryson and Carolyn Wallace, all of Chickamauga ; grandchildren, April Jewell and Nicolas Hanzelik; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Alex Helton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ron Taylor officiating.

Burial will follow in Garmany cemetery, Kensington, Ga.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday morning until the service.

Virginia West

CHICKAMAUGA - Virginia Katherine Johnson West, 83, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007.

She was born in Lyerly, Ga., to the late Charles Oliver and Rosa Ellen Walraven Johnson. She was a resident of the Chickamauga area for most of her life and had attended Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God and Oakwood Baptist Church. She was a former nurse for Dr. Pope for 23 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Roy West; sons, Doyle F. West, James L. West; and several siblings.

She is survived by her son, Randy West, of Rossville; daughter, Patricia White, of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Charlotte Carter, of Savannah, Ga.; brother, Archie Johnson, of Chickamauga ; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday morning until the service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, graveside in Chickamauga cemetery with Minister Jack Price officiating.

VALLEY HEAD - Mary C. Barnett, 79, died Friday, May 13, 2007.

Survivors: husband Clyde Barnett ; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Buddy Burnett, Valley Head; grandchildren, Kelley (Dean) Chamblin, Kim (Anson) Chamblin; and great-grandchildren, Carson and Brennan Keller.

Funeral: at 11 a.m. CDT today at Burt Funeral Home chapel, Valley Head.

Burial: Valley Head cemetery.

James Blanchett

RAINSVILLE - James Arlon Blanchett, 61, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. CDT today from W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel.

Burial to follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

Scottie Leonard

BRYANT - Jeffery Scott 'Scottie' Leonard, 40, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007.

He was a truck driver and a 1985 graduate of Pisgah High School. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Leonard; three daughters, Amanda Mayes, of Jasper, Tenn., Savannah Guffey and Hannah Leonard ; son, Joshua Leonard; parents, Jimmy and Wanda Leonard; sister, Bridgett Slay; and brother, Jeremy Leonard, all of Bryant.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday in the chapel with the Rev. Wayne Winters officiating.

Burial will follow in Ebenezer cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. EDT today and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

Arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home, Bryant.
