Billy Frazier Ward

Billy Frazier Ward, 71, of Dresden, died Monday, January 22, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Ward were held Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Southside Church of Christ in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Bro. E. Claude Gardner and Bro. Tom Childers officiated the services.
Mr. Ward was a truck driver for General Motors - Oldsmobile and was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Dresden. He was a native of Dresden and the son of the late Gordon Peery and Elsie V. Olds Ward.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marilyn Travis Ward of Dresden; a son, Mark (Wendy) Ward of Falls Church, Virginia; a sister, Jackie W. (Rickie) Duncan of Dresden; a brother, John A. (Connie) Ward of Cordova, Tennessee; and three grandchildren, James Gordon Ward of Norfolk, Virginia, William Travis and Nathan F. Ward of Falls Church, Virginia.

Justin Mead "Bar-twig" Bartig

Justin Mead "Bar-twig" Bartig, 26, died at his home in Clark Lake, Michigan, Saturday, November 25, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer D.; mother and stepfather, Becky and Tracy Vicary of Martin; father, Tim Bartig of Jackson, Michigan; brother, Terry Whiting of Martin; stepbrother and sister, Travis and Amanda Vicary of Brentwood; mother and father-in-law, Bob and Kris Ragain of Clark Lake, Michigan; grandparents, Bob and Vi Miner of Crestview, Florida, Roland and Florine Bartig of Napoleon, Michigan; step-grandparents, Walter and Marie Vicary of Martin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Justin attended Westview High School. He played some football and was active in FFA attending the National Convention in the fall of 1997. He had been married to Jenny for four years and was an employee of ConAgra-Armour-Eckrich Meats in Quincy, Michigan, as a cook house supervisor.
Per his request, Justin was cremated. There will be a graveside service in his honor on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Eastside cemetery in Martin with Bro. Larry Powers officiating. Anyone wishing to attend are invited to join the family at that time.

Martha Hornbeak

Martha Hornbeak, 92, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Hornbeak were held Friday, January 26, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in Hornbeak cemetery in Greenfield. Dr. Roy Whaley officiated the services.
Mrs. Hornbeak was a homemaker and attended First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield. She was born May 8, 1914 in Rutherford to the late Claud Johnston and Willie Lett. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hornbeak was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hornbeak.
Mrs. Hornbeak is survived by a son, Ted Hornbeak of Dresden; daughter-in-law, Patsy Hornbeak; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Russell Woodrow Baker

Russell Woodrow Baker, 94, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Baker were held Thursday, January 11, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Hornbeak cemetery in Greenfield. Wayne Perkins and David Worley officiated the services.
Mr. Baker was a farmer and a butcher and attended Bethel Baptist Church. He was born November 5, 1912 in Greenfield to the late Will Baker and Buena Tucker.
Mr. Baker is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline (Baker) Rachels of Greenfield; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Walter Lee Gatewood

Walter Lee Gatewood, 56, of Fulton, Kentucky, formerly of Dresden, died Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Funeral services for Mr. Gatewood were held Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Wingo cemetery in Wingo, Kentucky. Bro. Ron Cox and Dr. Don McCulley officiated the services.
Mr. Gatewood worked for Turner Dairy in Paducah and was a member of South Fulton Baptist Church. He was born May 26, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to Doyle M. Gatewood and the late Mildred Thompson Gatewood.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Connie Guill Gatewood of Fulton; a stepson, Mike (Cindi) Ray of Benton, Kentucky; his father, Doyle M. Gatewood of Dresden; a sister, Shirley Ann Kelley of Paris; and two grandchildren.

Doreen Ann "Aunt Reenie" Odom

Doreen Ann "Aunt Reenie" Odom, 43, of Martin, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Odom were held Monday, March 19, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Stan Brooks officiated the services.
Mrs. Odom was a Catholic by faith. She was a native of New York, New York.
Mrs. Odom is survived by her nephew, whom she reared, Michael Odom of Dresden; her parents, Dan and Doris Moll Vitale, Sr. of Martin; three sisters, Darlene Vitale of Dresden, Dawn Mills of Dresden, and Diane Vitale of Martin; a brother, Dan Vitale, Jr. of Martin; thirteen nieces and nephews; and one great-nephew.

Mae C. Horn

Mae C. Horn, 73, of Greenfield, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Oak Manor Nursing Home. Graveside services for Ms. Horn were held Saturday, March 24, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Hornbeak cemetery in Greenfield. Roy Auvenshine officiated the services.
Ms. Horn had formerly worked at Kellwood Manufacturing. She was born August 27, 1933 in Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Cates.
Ms. Horn is survived by a son, David Horn of Greenfield; two daughters, Sherry (Horn) Park of Camden, and Kathy Puritt of Paris; her mother, Mildred Cates of Greenfield; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Martha Juanita Johnson

Martha Juanita Johnson, 85, of Sharon, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held Monday, March 26, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Sharon Church of Christ. Burial followed in East Side cemetery in Martin. Bro. Larry Powers officiated the services.
Mrs. Johnson was retired from Chanbers-Godfrey Company and Mar-Tenn Hamm Co. She was also a member of the Sharon Church of Christ. Mrs. Johnson was born December 15, 1921 in Obion County to the late Alvin Baxter Stanley and Florence Hoffman Todd. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michael Mansfield and Holly Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Mr. Robert T. Johnson of Sharon; two sons, Bob Johnson (Sandra) of Dresden, and Larry Johnson (Ruth) of Gadsden, Tennessee; two daughters, Brenda Mansfield (Frank) of Sharon, and Betty Tate of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Vanessa Burnneo, Shawn Johnson, Greg Mansfield, Melissa Wilson, Tony Tate, Teresa Tate, Todd Johnson, and Annie Husband; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Ronald Gene Hugueley

Ronald Gene Hugueley, 53, of Gleason, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Hugueley were held Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie. Burial followed in New Valley cemetery in Gleason. Bro. Gene Price officiated the services.
Mr. Hugueley was born February 5, 1954 in Weakley County. He was preceded in death by his father, G.H. Hugueley.
Mr. Hugueley is survived by a son, Freddie Gene Hugueley; a daughter, Youvhanda Stone of Dresden; his mother and stepfather, Joyce Ann Bolton Mingle and Joe Mingle; two brothers, Edward Allen Hugueley of Dresden, and Donald Ray Hugueley of Latham; and three grandchildren.

Brenda Kay Gatewood Doster

Brenda Kay Gatewood Doster, 58, of Dresden, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Doster were held Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Larry Reagan and Bro. Roy Auvenshine officiated the services.
Mrs. Doster worked as a beautician, florist, nursery worker, and homemaker. She was a member of Alamo Baptist Church near Rives. Mrs. Doster was a native of Weakley County and the daughter of the late Ralph Maynard and Allie B. Anderson Gatewood.
Mrs. Doster is survived by her husband, Mr. Donald Ray Doster of Dresden; a daughter, Deanna (David) Freeman of Lebanon, Tennessee; two sons, Troy (Julie) Doster of Hanson, Kentucky; and Jake Doster of Dresden; two sisters, Diania Spaulding of Union City, and Reba Montgomery of Palmersville; a brother, Wendell Gatewood of Palmersville; and seven grandchildren.

Estelle Winstead McAlister

Estelle Winstead McAlister, 84, of Fulton, Kentucky, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Funeral services for Mrs. McAlister will be held today, Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial will follow in Wesley cemetery in Fulton.
Mrs. McAlister was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Fulton and was a homemaker. She was born July 17, 1922 in Weakley County to the late Bernice and Fannie (Nanney) Winstead. She had lived in this area all of her life. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McAlister was also preceded in death by a son, Duane McAlister; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. McAlister is survived by her husband, whom she married September 12, 1942, Duward B. McAlister of Fulton, Kentucky; a daughter, Cathy Hooper of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Glenda McAlister of Severna Park, Maryland; four grandchildren, Travis Hooper of Wichita, Kansas, Lauryn McAlister, Darrin McAlister, and Meredith McAlister, all of Severna Park, Maryland; a brother, Donald Winstead of Warren, Illinois; and three sisters, Nell Jones of Fluorescent, Missouri, Alma Holmes of Jackson, Tennessee, and Glenda Duke of Chicago, Illinois.

Joseph Stanley Wojcieszek

Joseph Stanley Wojcieszek, 86, of Sharon, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services for Mr. Wojcieszek were held Sunday, May 27, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in Sharon. Burial followed in Woodlawn cemetery. Father Joe Paolozzi officiated the services.
Mr. Wojcieszek was an electrician and a veteran of the United States Army. He was born October 14, 1920 on Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Wojcieszek is survived by a son, Martin Milner of Sharon; and two grandchildren.

Mabron W. "Sonny" Clem

Mabron W. "Sonny" Clem, born to parents Mabron Pierce and Emma Christine (Lively) Clem on April 30, 1935, in Elmont, Alabama. He moved to Martin at the age of nine, and graduated from Martin High School in 1952. He relocated to Lansing, Michigan in 1953. Mr. Clem served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. He graduated from Northward University and retired in November 1997 from GM as General Supervisor in Experimental Engineering with 43 years and 9 months of service.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann; two daughters, Tennie (Terry) Barrett and Tara (Robert) Kennan; son, Steven (Jennie) Clem; grandchildren, Tambi and Dillon Barrett, Cass, Crystal, and Mitchell Kennan, and predeceased granddaughter, Lacey Barrett in 1986; two sisters, Virginia (Claude) Yarbrough and Sue (Norman) Maynard; brother, Joe (Judy) Clem; many great-nieces; and 1 great-nephew.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at 12:00 p.m. at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home in DeWitt, Michigan with the Rev. Charles D. Grauer officiating. Interment icon followed at Gunnisonville cemetery in Lansing, Michigan.

Mack Louis Riggs

Mack Louis Riggs, 100, of Dresden, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center in Dresden. Funeral services for Mr. Riggs were held Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Tony Terrell officiated the services.
Mr. Riggs was a carpenter and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Dresden. He was a native of Weakley County and the son of the late Henry and Mallie Byars Riggs. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riggs was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Mae Buckley Riggs; three sisters, Annie Campbell, Virginia Cooper, and Hattie Kennedy; two brothers, Thomas Riggs and J.B. Riggs; a half-brother, Sam Garner; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Riggs is survived by two daughters, Marjorie (Richard) Cooper of Dresden, and Shirley Norvell of Trenton; two sons, Marion (Elizabeth) Riggs of Dresden, and Jerry (Joy) Riggs of Dresden; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Russell Guy Wiley

Russell Guy Wiley, 85, of Martin, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services for Mr. Wiley were held Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Tansil cemetery. Brent Arnold officiated the services.
Mr. Wiley was a farmer and a veteran of the United States Army. He was born September 29, 1921 in Gibson County.
Mr. Wiley is survived by a daughter, Patricia Narit of Japan; two sons, Bobby Wiley of Sharon, and James Wiley of Sharon; six half-sisters, Kay Orr of Sharon, Ann Gardner of Martin, Carol Garrett of Martin, Grace McKay of Martin, Linda Muzzall of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Sue Wilson of Martin; and seven grandchildren.
