William Danny Spencer

William Danny Spencer, 49, of Martin, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Spencer were held Friday, June 1, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the Martin Church of Christ. Burial followed in East Side cemetery in Martin. Bro. John Dale officiated the services.
Mr. Spencer managed the Cine Theatre and owned and operated Movies To Go in Martin. He was a graduate of Murray High School in Murray, Kentucky and a member of the Martin Church of Christ. He was born April 15, 1958 in Murray, Kentucky to the late W.O. Spencer and Chalista Swift Spencer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spencer was also preceded in death by a brother, Dwayne Spencer.
Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife, Sherri Mills Spencer of Martin; a son, William Hunter Spencer of Martin; a daughter, Christene Ellen Spencer of Martin; and a sister, Sharon Shultz of Murray, Kentucky.

Alvie Mason Harris

Alvie Mason Harris, 75, of Palmersville, died Sunday, August 12, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Harris will be held today, Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Chapel Church of Christ in Palmersville. Burial will follow in Morgan cemetery.
Mr. Harris was retired from ANR Pipeline as a maintenance engineer.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Grubbs Harris of Palmersville; two sons, Kerry M. Harris of Dresden, and Benji C. Harris of Sharon; and a sister, Joanne Schaffer of Paducah, Kentucky.

Doris Ann Brown

Doris Ann Brown, 60, of Smyrna, died Friday, August 10, 2007, at her home. Funeral services were held Monday, August 13, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Merwin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the River of Life Church in Smyrna and had worked for Nissan.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Brown; mother, Doris Lane of Gleason; five children, Danny (Barbara) Lipps, Tony Brown, Debbie (Allen) Merritt, Peggy (Scott) Zdeb, and Debbie McDonald; a brother, John (Patty) Lane, Jr.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, John Lane Sr.

Howard Lorenzo Billingsby

Howard Lorenzo Billingsby, 90, of Dresden, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Billingsby were held Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Hatlers Chapel Church of Christ in Dresden. Burial followed in Hatlers Chapel Church cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Charley Arnett officiated the services.
Mr. Billingsby was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army. He was a member of Hatlers Chapel Church of Christ and the Dresden American Legion. Mr. Billingsby was born in Latham to the late Gilbert L. and Ida Mae Crosser Billingsby. In addition to his parents, Mr. Billingsby was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth Laws Billingsby; a sister, Annie Lou Story; and two brothers, Flavil Billingsby and James Billingsby.
Mr. Billingsby is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Danny) Scearce of Dresden, Donna (Joe) Hatler of Dresden, and Sandra (Richard) Walker of Martin; three sisters, Pauline Walker of Martin, Reggie Roney of Gallatin, and Sue Harper of Franklin; a brother, John Billingsby of Dresden; and six grandchildren, Robert and Ryan Scearce, Jodie Hatler Menees, Julie Hatler Russ, Justin Hatler, and Brian Walker.

Jeremiah Eric "Jerry" Blades

Jeremiah Eric "Jerry" Blades, 29, a package handler for United Parcel Service and delivery driver for D'Angelo's Produce, died Monday, August 6, 2007, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was a resident of Baker and a native of Baton Rouge. Mr. Blades was a 1996 graduate of Dresden High School.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, August 9, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
Survivors include his mother, Vanessa Zito of Quinlan, Texas; paternal grandparents, Royal "Roy" and Jackie Blades of Baker; maternal grandmother, Ruby Zito of Quinlan; sister, Gabrielle Blades of Central; nephew, Eric Hyde; and numerous cousins.
Mr. Blades was preceded in death by his father, Glynn Eric Blades; and maternal grandfather, Frank Zito.

Lucille Coley Bell

Lucille Coley Bell, 93, of the New Home Community in Martin, died Sunday, August 12, 2007, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Bell will be held today, Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side cemetery in Martin. Rev. David Price and Rev. Scott Chadwick will officiate the services.
Mrs. Bell was a homemaker and a member of New Home Baptist Church. She was born October 25, 1913 in Obion County to the late Will Coley and Lelia Hansbrough Coley. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bell was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Artell Bell; a brother, Roy Coley, Sr.; and a sister, Bertie Coley Haley.

Margaret Ann Martin Harpole

Margaret Ann Martin Harpole, 76, wife of Dr. David Harold Harpole, of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Martin, died Friday, July 20, 2007, in Richmond. She was born on November 13, 1930, a native of Martin, and the daughter of the late Luella Hefley Martin and John Marshall Martin, Sr.. The town of Martin was named for her great-grandfather, William Martin.
Mrs. Harpole was a third generation alumni and graduate of Vanderbilt University and a former school teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over 40 years and held various offices and served on the board of her chapter. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of American, and had served as a docent at Wilton House Museum in Richmond for over 10 years. She belonged to the Jamestowne Society, the Huguenot Society of Virginia, the Daughters of the Cincinnati, and other genealogical, historical, religious, cultural, and charitable organizations. She belonged to River Road United Methodist Church, and was a lifelong Methodist. She and her husband had previously lived in Roanoke, Virginia for 31 years before moving to Richmond in 1993.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Lillian Harpole Hazelton and son-in-law, Merle C. Hazelton of Richmond; a son, Dr. David H. Harpole, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Dr. Linda H. Harpole of Durham, North Carolina; six grandchildren; a brother, John M. Martin, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy Shands Martin.
A memorial service was held at River Road United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2007. A family graveside memorial service was held Saturday, August 18, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at East Side cemetery in Martin. Rev. Bill Tate officiated the service.

Bettie Jean Owens

Bettie Jean Owens, 63, of Martin, died Friday, October 12, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Owens were held Friday, October 19, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Old Fulton Road Church of Christ. Burial followed in Parham cemetery in Martin. Bro. Nathaniel Homes officiated the services.
Mrs. Owens was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Volunteer Community Hospital and a member of Old Fulton Road Church of Christ. She was born April 13, 1944 in West, Mississippi to the late Willie B. Braddock and Bettie McClellan Braddock. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Owens was also preceded in death by a brother, James Edward West.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her husband, Mr. Melvin Owens of Martin; a son, Tony Higgs of Memphis; a stepson, Jomane Owens of Martin; two daughters, Sherry Martin of Martin, and Lisa Young of Memphis; a stepdaughter, Phillisa Owens of Memphis; two brothers, Willie Braddock of Michigan, and Kenneth Braddock of Michigan; and seven sisters, Orteria Evans of Sharon, Erlina McKnight of Memphis, Lovie West of Memphis, Betty Braddock of Michigan, Patricia Tansil of Martin, Virginia Braddock of Michigan, and Vanessa Morris of Michigan.

Christine Alderdice McClain

Christine Alderdice McClain, 76, of Palmersville, died Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral services for Mrs. McClain were held Saturday, October 13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in the McClain Family cemetery in Palmersville. Bro. Don Gregory officiated the services.
Mrs. McClain was a housewife and a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church in Palmersville. She was born in Graves County, Kentucky to the late Clyde and Irene Reeves Alderdice, Sr.. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McClain was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Marvin C. McClain.
Mrs. McClain is survived by two sisters-in-law, Joan Alderdice of Dresden, and Linda Alderdice of Water Valley, Kentucky; one niece, Janet (Rob) Cantrell of Paducah, Kentucky; and five nephews, Glyn Graham of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Greg Alderdice of Dresden, Frankie Alderdice of Wingo, Kentucky, Kyle Alderdice of Mayfield, Kentucky, and Corey Alderdice of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Jo Allen Royster

Jo Allen Royster, 78, of Dresden, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Royster were held Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Terry Griffin and Bro. Tony Terrell officiated the services.
Mrs. Royster was the owner and operator for Royster McAlpin Well Drilling and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Dresden. She was born in Weakley County to the late Albert Ray and Opal Ellis Morris. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Royster was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Wayne Tidwell Royster; a sister, Margaret Sue Wright; and one grandchild.
Mrs. Royster is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Bill) Atkins of Dresden, Dianne (Danny) Roberts of Dresden, and Melanie (Loyd) Essary of Dresden; a son, Joe Wayne Royster of Dresden; a brother, Bobby Ray Morris of Arlington, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Katie Lou Wainscott

Services for Katie Lou Wainscott, 61, were held Sunday, October 14, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Copeland officiating. Interment icon followed at Tumbling Creek cemetery.
Mrs. Wainscott, a homemaker, died Friday morning, October 12, 2007, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was born on April 28, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Marshall Wyley Pruitt and Jewel Ellis Pruitt.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Wainscott of McKenzie; one daughter, Kristie Lanette Cooper of McKenzie; two sons, Troy Dewayne Wainscott of Gleason, and Todd Marshall Wainscott of McKenzie; one sister, Dorothy Kay Gallimore of Dresden; two brothers, Bobby Pruitt of Martin, and Gerald Pruitt of Paris; and six grandchildren.

Lois McMackin Freeman

Lois McMackin Freeman, 96, of Brentwood, died Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services for Mrs. Freeman were held Saturday, October 13, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side cemetery in Martin. Clark Freeman officiated the services.
Mrs. Freeman was born on January 28, 1911, to the late William (Bud) and Mattie Haley McMackin of Obion County. She was a faithful member of the Martin Church of Christ following her baptism in 1930. She retired from the University of Tennessee at Martin library in 1976 and had also worked for the City of Martin library. Mrs. Freeman was a graduate of Troy High School and attended the University of Tennessee Junior College in Martin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Freeman was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joe C. Freeman.
Mrs. Freeman is survived by a son, Clark B. Freeman (deceased wife, Mary Nell) of Knoxville; two daughters, Connie Pat Mauney (Mac) of Brentwood, and Ann Gran (Charles) of Plano, Texas; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Melony Angela Laughlin

Melony Angela Laughlin, 45, of Palmersville, died Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at her home. Memorial services for Ms. Laughlin were held Saturday, October 13, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Roger Linkous officiated the services.
Ms. Laughlin was a housewife and a member of Millington Church of Christ. She was born in Memphis to Pearl Gibbons Miles and the late William Miles, Jr. In addition to her father, Ms. Laughlin was also preceded in death by a sister, Diane Young.
Ms. Laughlin is survived by two daughters, Audrea Pandolf of Palmersville, and Theresa Pandolf of Houston, Texas; her mother, Pearl Gibbons Miles of Palmersville; a sister, Sandra Gibbons of Dukedom; and a brother, Morris Miles of Houston, Texas.

Robert Lee Davidson

Robert Lee Davidson, 75, of Palmersville, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Davidson were held Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in New Hope cemetery in Latham. Bro. G.W. Moon and Bro. Kenneth Williams officiated the services.
Mr. Davidson was the retired owner of Davidson Construction in St. Louis, Missouri, and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Latham. He was born in Weakley County to the late Homer and Gracie Lee Alderdice Davidson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davidson was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Ernst McClain; and a brother, Pete Davidson.
Mr. Davidson is survived by his wife, Frances Tucker Davidson of Palmersville; a daughter, Judy Davidson (Robert) Gustafson of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; two brothers, Howard "Junior" Davidson of St. Louis, Missouri, and Frank Davidson of St. Louis, Missouri; and one grandchild, Gregary (Stephanie) Matthiesen of St. Louis, Missouri.
