Vida Opal Copeland

Vida Opal Copeland, 92, of Palmersville, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Copeland were held Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Chapel Church of Christ in Palmersville. Burial followed in Morgan cemetery. Bro. Shannon Seaton, Bro. Harvey Elder, and Bro. Bob Copeland officiated the services.
Mrs. Copeland was a housewife and a member of Union Chapel Church of Christ. She was born in Weakley County to the late Tobe and Ela Grubbs Mansfield. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Copeland was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Lowell Copeland; a sister, Rubie Lee Bukoski; and three brothers, Fred Mansfield, Bill Mansfield, and Sammie Roberts.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by three sons, Ronald Copeland of Palmersville, Donald Copeland of Palmersville, and Bob Copeland of Palmersville; three sisters, Erma Murdock of Dresden, Christine Harris of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Geraldine Shepherd of Dresden; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Virginia Lewis King

Virginia Lewis King, 77, of Dresden, died Friday, October 12, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral mass for Mrs. King were held Monday, October 15, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Martin. Burial followed in Hickman City cemetery in Hickman, Kentucky. Father Joe Paolozzi officiated the services.
Mrs. King was a retired factory worker and a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Martin. She was a native of Hickman, Kentucky and the daughter of the late Lacy and Virginia May Anderson Crocker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Elmer O. King.
Mrs. King is survived by four sons, Terrill King of Dresden, Lewis King of Dresden, Raymond King of Dresden, and David King of Dresden; a sister, Mentha Ruth Gwinn of Union City; a brother, Lawrence Crocker of Kansas City, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Agnes Hatley

Agnes Hatley, 89, of Martin, died Saturday, December 15, 2007, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Center in Martin. Graveside services for Mrs. Hatley were held Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Tansil cemetery. Bro. Ryan Potts officiated the services.
Mrs. Hatley was a factory worker and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was born August 25, 1918 in Sidonia to the late Alvin and Mary Jane (Matlock) Adams. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hatley was also preceded in death by three husbands, R.C. Stewart, Andrew Runions, and George Hatley; and a son, Larry Stewart.
Mrs. Hatley is survived by a son, Robert (Sandra) Stewart of Martin; two sisters, Clara Webb of Gleason, and Odell Blakemore of Dresden; two grandchildren, Cindy (Sammy) Prince and Shauna (Jeff) Capps; and four great-grandchildren, Tessa Prince, Cody Prince, Mason Capps, and Harrison Capps.

Daniel Cullen Gibbons

Daniel Cullen Gibbons, 87, of Dresden, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Gibson General Hospital in Trenton. Funeral services for Mr. Gibbons were held Thursday, December 13, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Martin Memorial Gardens in Martin. Bro. Rick Walker officiated the services.
Mr. Gibbons was a retired painter. He was a native of Rutherford and the son of the late Richard Smith and Lellian Pearl Harrison Gibbons. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibbons was also preceded in death by a grandson, J.C. Peoples.
Mr. Gibbons is survived by four daughters, Maudie Weedman of Dresden, Elizabeth Estes of Dukedom, Frieda Stokes of Dresden, and Shelby Williams of Dresden; three sons, Noah Gibbons of Martin, Gary Gibbons of Dresden, and Jeff Gibbons of Sharon; five sisters, Dixie Beall of Memphis, Justine Soro of Nesbit, Mississippi, Ruth Brundige of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Pearl Miles of Austin Springs, and Alice Jackson of Memphis; four brothers, David Gibbons of Austin Springs, Jerry Gibbons of Austin Springs, James Gibbons of Como, and Glenn Gibbons of Bartlett; twenty-one grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Emma B. Higgs

Emma B. Higgs, 94, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Higgs were held Sunday, December 9, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Tabernacle CME Church. Burial followed in Pleasant View cemetery in Sharon. Rev. C.N. Ricks and Dr. David Reid officiated the services.
Mrs. Higgs was a homemaker and attended Johnson Tabernacle CME Church in Greenfield, Arkansas. She was born May 20, 1913 in Greenfield to the late Coke Winston and Florence Vinnie. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Higgs was also preceded in death by her husband, Bennie E. Higgs; and four sons, Frank Higgs, Bobby Higgs, David Higgs, and Thomas Higgs.
Mrs. Higgs is survived by four sons, James Higgs of San Antonio, Texas, Jessie Higgs of St. Louis, Missouri, Billy Ray Higgs of Greenfield, and Bennie J. Higgs of Greenfield; and three daughters, Melvlon (Higgs) Hill of Greenfield, Jestine (Higgs) McMullens of Greenfield, and Barbara (Higgs) Finch of Dyer.

Hallie Marie Wright

Hallie Marie Wright, 84, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, December 10, 2007, at the Methodist Medical Center. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007, at Eastside cemetery in Martin.
She was born August 9, 1923 in Martin, the daughter of the Hosie Clarence Gardner and Velmer Francis Rowlette Gardner. Mrs. Wright retired in 1962 from Union Carbide Corporation, where she worked as a clerk in the Health Physics Department. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hillman Newton Wright; a son, David Hillman Wright of Hampton, Virginia; a daughter, Annette Marie Wright of Oak Ridge; and a brother, Bobby Harold Gardner and wife, Bobbie, of Martin.

Harriet Rawls Jones

Harriet Rawls Jones, 91, of Martin, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Jones were held Monday, December 17, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side cemetery in Martin. Rev. Houston Patrick and Rev. David Brown officiated the services.
Mrs. Jones was retired from the Weakley County Municipal Electric System. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Martin and a graduate of Dresden High School. Mrs. Jones was born December 25, 1915 in Palmersville to the late Chester Rawls and Bertha Pentecost Rawls.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Mr. Truitt Jones of Martin; and a son, Mr. Richard Jones of Dresden.

James H. Lackey

James H. Lackey, 84, of McKenzie, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Lackey were held Monday, December 17, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in Pleasant Green cemetery. Johnny Farmer officiated the services.
Mr. Lackey worked as a laborer for AT&T. He was born February 18, 1923 in Sharon to the late Dud Lackey and Grace Pickens. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lackey was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Lackey.
Mr. Lackey is survived by a son, Phillip Lackey; a daughter, Wilma Ann Carter; and a granddaughter, Jessica Ann Carter of McKenzie.

Jerry Vaughan "Old Dawg" Reams

Jerry Vaughan "Old Dawg" Reams, 73, of Ionia, died Friday, December 14, 2007. Funeral services were held Monday, December 17, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter & Paul Church in Ionia with Father Peter Schafer celebrant.
Mr. Reams was born November 25, 1934 in Martin, the son of Cleatus and Julia (Ray) Reams. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the Michigan Reformatory in 1994 after 26 1/2 years of service. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Sheridan VFW. Mr. Reams coached several years in the Ionia Youth League and served as a pitching coach for Ionia and Portland high schools.
Mr. Reams is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rosemary Reams of Ionia; children, Elena and Jeff Brooks of Portland, Tondra Morris and Brent Bowerman of Ionia, Jason and Tricia Reams of Ionia, and Bradley Brady of California; grandchildren, Mary, Kahlib, Mark, Julia, Dawson, Brynn, and Lilly; and sister-in-law, Sue Reams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Bobbie and Ted Reams, Betty Jean Grubbs, and Dorothy Jane Reams.

Mary Jean Petty

Mary Jean Petty, 68, of Dresden, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Petty were held Sunday, December 16, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Donald Doster officiated the services.
Mrs. Petty was a housewife and attended the Baptist church. She was born March 15, 1939 in South Fulton to the late Leonard Carrington and Janie Bates. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Petty was also preceded in death by her husband, James Petty; two sisters, Paulette McAnally and Bertha Carrington; a brother, Halford Carrington; and a grandson, Carl Weaver.
Mrs. Petty is survived by four daughters, Nancy (Chris) Elinor of Sharon; Dorothy (David) Chambers of Farmington, Kentucky, Lisa (David Hutson) Pegram of Palmersville, and Judy (Duane) Boone of Gleason; two sons, Billy "Pete" (Wanda) Weaver of Dresden, and Lonnie Jarred of Dresden; four sisters, Virginia Fowler of Dresden, June Evans of Dresden, Shirley Evans of Sharon, and Robbie Carrington of Gleason; a brother, James Carrington of Clarksville, Tennessee; and thirteen grandchildren, Tonya Humfress, Tabatha Humfress, Trina Humfress, Bridgie Carlton, Jason Carlton, Kathy Weaver, Trisha Weaver, Janet Williford, Lonnie Jarred, Daniel Jarred, Jake Jarred, Tammy (Aaron) Pegram, and Justin Elinor.

Robert William Diehl

Robert William Diehl, 55, of Union City, died Thursday, December 6, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Diehl were held Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Rev. Fady Al Hagal officiated the services.
Mr. Diehl was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam. He was born April 29, 1952 in Monroe, Michigan to the late Robert Eastman and Helen Skidmore Eastman.
Mr. Diehl is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susan Coleman Diehl of Union City; three sons, Joseph Rother of Dresden, Ben Diehl of Kissimmee, Florida, and Brad Diehl of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two daughters, Elizabeth Honeyset of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Brittany Canada of Newbern; a brother, Rick Diehl of Idaho; and two sisters, Mary Dunn of Monroe, Michigan, and Susan Fuller of Florida.

Samuel D. (Sammy) Williamson

Samuel D. (Sammy) Williamson, 64, of Sharon, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Williamson were held Monday, December 17, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in Brock's cemetery in Greenfield. David Worley and Wayne Perkins officiated the services.
Mr. Williamson was an X-Ray Technician. He was born February 3, 1943 in Greenfield to the late Lowell Williamson and Marie Estelle Holder.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife, Debbie Williamson of Sharon; a daughter, Beth Williamson; three sons, David (Cherri) Williamson of Rives, Derek (Shanie) Williamson of Martin, and Dustin (Jennifer) Williamson of Bartlett; and nine grandchildren, Garrett Ellison, Ethan Ellison, Nathan Williamson, Nicholas Williamson, Casey Williamson, Caleb Williamson, Carly Williamson, Riley Williamson, and Reagan Williamson.

William Donald Arneson

William Donald Arneson, 47, of Gleason, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Arneson were held Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Rev. Gene Price officiated the services.
Mr. Arneson was a member of Tumbling Creek Baptist Church. He was born July 28, 1960 in Elgin, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his mother, Loise Laverne (Crowe) Arneson.
Mr. Arneson is survived by his wife, Gretchen (Shirley) Arneson; a son, Nicholas Arneson of Gleason; his father, William Arneson of Ashton, Illinois; three brothers, Eddie Arneson of Elgin, Illinois, Mark Arneson of Central, South Carolina, and Lee Arneson; and three stepsisters, Rhonda Bradfield, Lynn Castro, and Angie Trager.

Wilma Wayne Kilgore

Wilma Wayne Kilgore, 80, of Martin, died Thursday, December 6, 2007, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Kilgore were held Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side cemetery in Martin. Rev. Tommy Jowers officiated the services.
Mr. Kilgore was a retired farmer and a member of Ralston United Methodist Church. He was born December 17, 1926, in Weakley County to the late Wayne Kilgore and Essie Mae Wilson Kilgore. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kilgore was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Freeman and June Horne.
Mr. Kilgore is survived by a sister, Jane Parrish (Ottis) of Union City.
