William 'Willie' Dennis Sowell, 1950-2006, PARIS - William 'Willie' Dennis Sowell, 56, of Paris, TN died Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Plumley Rehab Center in Paris. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Apostolic Chapel with Dwight Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Community cemetery in Springville, TN. Visitation is Monday, July 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris. Sowell was born May 20, 1950 in Berkeley, CA. He was a member of Prospect General Baptist Church in Camden, TN and formerly worked at Genesco in Camden. Survivors include: parents William 'Bill' and Virginia Briggs Sowell of Paris; sisters Mary Patterson of Paris and Denise (David) Bomar of Mansfield, TN; and brother Mark (Sheila) Sowell of Buchanan, TN. JAMES BADGETT, SR, 1923-2006, PARIS - James Badgett, Sr., 82, of Burnside, Kentucky, formerly of Paris, died Sunday, October 15, 2006. He was born October 18, 1923 to Bonnie Badgett and Cannie Carrington Badgett, both deceased. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19 at McEvoy Funeral Home, Paris. Burial will be Walker cemetery. Gene Martin of Arkansas, a nephew, will officiate. Visitation is noon until service time Thursday. Survivors include: sone, James Dagett, Jr. of Fowler, Ind.; sister, Maggie Ruby of Paris; brother, Joe Badgett of Paris; four grandchildren, Barbara, James, and Michelle Badgett; four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jean Badtett, and a sister, Julia Martin Moore. Mr. Badgett was a veteran of WWII and a retired clerk of General Motors. He was known as a avid hobby quilter.

EILEEN BOMAR MCNUTT CARLEY, 1914-2006, ROSEVILLE, MICHIGAN: Eileen Bomar McNutt Carley, 92, formerly of Paris, died Tuesday, October 17, at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, Michigan. Funeral services will be Monday, October 23, at 11 a.m., in McEvoy Funeral Home Chapel with Gary S. Collier officiating. Burial will follow in Manleys Chapel cemetery in Henry County. Mrs. Carley was born January 29, 1914 in Henry County to the late Rufus Bomar and Myra Redden Bomar. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. She worked as a cashier at Kroger's when living in Michigan and prior to that, the Warner Gear Factory in Michigan. She also worked at the former Salant & Salant Gear Factory in Paris. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leo McNutt and Michael Joseph Carley; and one brother, Harvey Bomar. Survivors include: one son, James "Jim" (Sandra) McNutt of Roseville, Michigan; one sister, Faye Wilson of Mayfield, Kentucky; one step-grandson; nieces and nephews and several local cousins in Henry County. Visitation will be Sunday, October 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, October 23, from 9 a.m. until service time.

CATHERINE CARTER, 1918-2007, MANSFIELD - Catherine Carter, 88, died Wednesday, June 27 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services will be Friday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris. Burial will follow in Shiloh cemetery in Mansfield. Mrs. Carter was born November 27, 1918 in Henry County to the late W.H. Thompson and Eula Sanders Thompson. Mrs. Carter was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church. She was a lifelong resident of Mansfield where she had operated Grandma's Country Store since 1979. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death was her husband, Earl Carter; one son, Terry Carter, husband of Carolyn Carter of Mansfield, who survives; and two sisters, Evelyn Karaba and Rebecca Crawford. Survivors include two sons, Rex (Sue) Carter of Paris, Randy (Kendra) Carter of Huntingdon; one sister, Maxine Grooms of Jackson; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

MARY EVA McSWAIN GAMLIN, 1913-2007, PURYEAR: Mary Eva McSwain Gamilin, 94, of Puryear died Thursday, December 13 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the McEvoy Chapel of McEvoy Funeral Home. Dr. Gary S. Collier will officiate and burial will follow in the Mt. Zion cemetery in Henry County. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McEvoy Funeral Home and Sunday after 12:00 Noon. Mrs. Gamlin was born March 4, 1913 in Henry County to the late Will A. and Addie Jackson McSwain. She married John Dorris Gamlin on November 2, 1934. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons, Kent M. Gamlin of Paris and Gary D. (Jackie) Gamlin of Puryear; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Dorris Gamlin; and one brother Dorris A. McSwain. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tribute Department, 501 St. Jude, Memphis.

PAUL PERRY, 1915-2007, PARIS - Paul Perry, 92, of Paris died Thursday, December 13 at Camden Health Care. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15 at 11:00 a.m. in McEvoy Chapel of McEvoy Funeral Home. Bro. Roger Banks and Bro. John Dale will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Lawn Memory Garden. Visitation will be Friday, December 14 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McEvoy Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mr. Perry was born March 18, 1915 in Gleason to the late J.D. Chesley and Audrey Rigsby Perry. He married Marjorie Collins Perry on December 12, 1936. He attended Henry School and worked as a Royal Crown distributor and a Chocolate Soldier distributor. He was a member and deacon of East Wood Street Church of Christ, a member of the Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, he served in WWII and was a POW in Germany. He survived by his wife, Marjorie Collins Perry; two daughters, Peggy (Jerald) Hill on Nolensville and Teresa (Ken) Fridenstine of Paris; two brothers, James and Joe Perry of Paris; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ernest Chesley "Pete" Perry; a sister, Patty Sprague; and two brothers, John Ray and David Perry.

MARGET KATHERIN BROWN, 1931-2007, MANSFIELD - Marget Katherin Brown, 76, of Mansfield died Thursday, December 13 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the McEvoy Chapel of McEvoy Funeral Home. Bro. Dwight Turner will officiate and burial will follow in the Henry County Tabernacle cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 14 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 15 at 12:00 noon. Mrs. Brown was born May 11, 1931 in Henry County to the late Dewey and Allie Sanders Lowery. She married William C. "Tubby" Brown August 1, 1954. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal faith. She is survived by two daughters: Rita M. (Phillip) Paschall of Paris and Penny Brown of Mansfield; three sons: Billy Brown and Jeff (Samatha) Markham of Mansfield; and Ray (Judy) Brown of Paris; one sister, Ria Sue Witherspoon of Paris; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Carline Markham and one brother, Calvin Lowery.

ALVA ELAINE COTTON, 1930-2007, PURYEAR: Alva Elaine Cotton, 77, of Puryear died Tuesday, December 11 in hospice at Skyline Madison Campus, Madison, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the McEvoy Chapel of the McEvoy Funeral Home. Bro. David Alan Jackson will officiate and burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Church of Christ cemetery in Henry County. Visitation will be Friday, December 14 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday after 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Cotton was born March 16, 1930 in Athens, Georgia to the late Al E. Glass and Dovie Shipp Adams. She married Alton B. Cotton October 4, 1947. She was a member of the Paris Quote Club and the Mt. Zion Church of Christ. She was co-owner/operator of ABC Enterprises and an avid bowler. She is survived by her son, Alton B. Cotton, Jr. of Puryear; one sister, Linda Parker of Madison; and one brother, Forrest Adams of Madison. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Alva Hopkins; a sister, Juanita Harris and a brother, Terry Adams.

GENEVA MERRELL, 1932-2007, PARIS - Geneva Merrell, 75, of Paris died Wednesday, December 12 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home. Cortez Merrell will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial cemetery. Visitation will be at Ridgeway Funeral Home on Friday, December 14 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 15 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Mrs. Merrell was born March 22, 1932 in Springville to the late Elijah Edward and Lucy May Merrell Johnson. She retired from the Holley Carburetor Plant and was a member of the Jolley Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons: Donald (Teresa) Merrell of Paris, Michael (Cindy) Merrell of Puryear, Raymond and Tim Merrell both of Paris; one sister, Berlene Wyatt Brooks of Benton, Kentucky; two brothers: Randall Johnson of Burr Oak, Michigan and Dale Johnson of Paris; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Buford Merrell; her father and mother; her step mother, Inez Shrador Johnson; one sister, Ercallie "Candy" Merrell; and three brothers: Paul, Jimmy and J.D. Johnson.

OPAL D. KEMP, 1909-2007, PARIS - Opal D. Kemp, 98, of Paris died Thursday, December 13 at Paris Henry County Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Memorial cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, December 17 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Mrs. Kemp was born January 7, 1909 in Dover to the late Samual I. and Fannie Lyons Hosford. She was a member of the East Wood Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons: Ronnie (Sue) Sills of Murray and Clinton (Jay) Sills of Alger, Michigan; a step-daugher, Elise (L.A.) Camp of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gilbert Sills; her second husband, Chester Kemp; one son, Chester L. Sills; a daughter in-law, Paulina Sills; two sisters and two brothers.

JOHN WESLEY WALTERS, 1931-2008, BUCHANAN: John Wesley Walters, 76, died Tuesday, February 12, at his home. Funeral services are Friday, February 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Randy Kuykendall officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany cemetery in Cottage Grove. Mr. Walters was born September 7, 1931 to the late Henry Wesley Walters and Lessie Maple Allis Walters. He was a U.S. Army WW II veteran and attended Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Richardson Walters; one son, Dexter Walters; three sisters, Alice Linkus, Virginia Allis, and Ellis Cooper; and one brother, Henry Walters. Survivors include: one daughter, Christine Deloris (Tony) Powell of Buchanan; two sons, John Wayne (Gina) Walters, Jr. of Puryear and Henry Wesley (Shirley) Walters of Horsebranch, Kentucky; two sisters, Rose Leonard of Murray, Kentucky and Betty Harris of Martinsville, Virginia; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

DOROTHY LOVE KEY SYKES, 1930-2008, PURYEAR: Dorothy Love Key Sykes, 77, died Monday, February 11, at her home. Funeral services are Thursday, February 14, at 11 a.m. at McEvoy Chapel with Bro. Jerry Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Puryear City cemetery. Mrs. Sykes, a homemaker, was born September 16, 1930 in Henry County to the late Rudolph Davis Key and Jewel Irene Morris Key. Survivors include: her husband, Bro. Warren T. Sykes; one daughter, Susan (Jerry) Lee of Murray, Kentucky; one son, Mitch (Renee) Sykes of Puryear; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and three step-grandchildren.

Donald M. Ashby
MANSFIELD - Services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 3 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Rev. Vance Rushing and Bill Lambert officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest cemetery.
Ashby, 70, was dead on arrival, Friday morning, June 1 at the Henry County Medical Center emergency room.
Born March 3, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of Clarence and Ruby Pinkston Ashby. He was married October 17, 1953, to the former Bessie Ruth Davis who survives.
Ashby retired after 30 years as a set up instructor with Emerson Electric. He served 40 years in the Army National Guard and was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Donna Ashby Wade of Mansfield; three sons, Morris Ashby of McKenzie, Jeffrey Ashby of Hollow Rock and Kent Ashby of Mansfield; one sister, Juanita Gist of Iuka, Mississippi; two brothers, his twin, Dillard Ashby of Lobelville and J. C. Ashby of Winchester; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Ashby.

Joan Groves
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Joan Groves, 50, died Friday, June 15 at the Milan General Hospital. Graveside services were conducted on Saturday, June 16 at the Bethlehem cemetery with Reverend Steve Atwood officiating.
Mrs. Groves, the daughter of the late Alvin and Mary Severns Ezell, was born February 18, 1951 in Memphis.
She is survived by her husband, William Ray Groves; two daughters, Christine Groves of Huntingdon and Michelle Lindsey of Clarksburg; one son, Al Groves of Huntingdon; one sister, Gean Turner of Covington; a brother, Winford Ezell of Michigan and six grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Joyner
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Willie Joyner, 94, died Friday, June 15 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, June 17 at 3:00 p.m., in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment icon followed in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Joyner, the daughter of the late William Harvey and Sarah Mitchell Blair, was born October 17, 1906 in Carroll County. She was the widow of Glynn Joyner, who died August 20, 1995, was a retired Circuit Court Clerk, and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, Jack Joyner of Germantown; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
