LOUIS GERALD SCOTT
MELBOURNE, FLORIDA - Louis Gerald "Jerry" Scott died at his home after a long battle with leukemia on Wednesday, May 7, surrounded by his wife, Mary Lou, and sister, Joan. He was not defined by his illness but fought it with a special dignity and grace. Services were at Hope Episcopal Church, 190 Interlachen Road, Suntree, Melbourne on Monday, May 12, at 11 a.m.
Jerry was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on April 21, 1930, to Louis and Lovia Scott. He attended Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana, on a football scholarship, graduating with a degree in education in 1953. He earned his Master of Science degree in Education from Indiana State University in 1956 and his PhD from the University of Tennessee in 1973.
Jerry taught high school and upon receiving his doctorate began a long career as a high school principal. He culminated his career as assistant superintendent of Schools in Knoxville. He retired in 1989 and moved to New Symrna Beach, Florida. In 2005 he moved to the Indian River Colony Club in Viera, Florida
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1953 as a private, retiring as a colonel in 1978. Jerry was an avid golfer, loved fishing and was an all around sportsman. He was an accomplished musician playing the trumpet in the Indiana State University Symphony and later, the Knoxville Symphony.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lou Scott; sister, Joan Conley; son, Louis Scott; daughter, Gloria Scott Woods; stepson, Mark Cass; and two granddaughters, Lori and Rachael.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.

JONATHAN ELDON LAMAN
1977-2008
HUNTINGDON - Jonathan Eldon Laman, 31, died Monday, May 5, from injuries he received in an accident. Funeral services were Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m. at Dilday Funeral Home with Bro. Denny Abernathy officiating. Burial followed in Long Rock cemetery.
Mr. Laman was born January 17, 1977 in Stuttgart, Germany. He was a welder for Steele Restaurant Supply, a Navy veteran having served on the USS Defender and a volunteer firefighter for the Mixie Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bettie Jo Chandler.
Survivors include: his parents, Lynn and Danita Laman of Huntingdon; paternal grandparents, Helen and Eldon Laman of Huntingdon; maternal grandparents, Jackie and Barbara Chandler of Tullahoma; two brothers, Kristopher D. Laman and Nicholas A. Laman, both of Huntingdon; two sisters, Diane (James) Laman Brown and Laura (Jeremy) Laman Rich, both of Huntingdon.

INA JO HODO
1942 - 2008
HUNTINGDON - Ina Jo Hodo, 65, died Tuesday, May 6, at Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services were Wednesday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at Carroll Memorial Gardens with Bro. Larry DePriest officiating.
Mrs. Hodo was born June 23, 1942 in West Monroe, Louisiana to the late Victor Earnest "VE" Mauldin and Juanita (Grady) Mauldin. She was Pentecostal in belief. Survivors include: her husband, Jessie Hodo of Huntingdon; one daughter, Laura Ann Dodd of Huntingdon; one son, John Duane (Lacee) Hodo of Huntingdon; two sisters, Kay Lifsey of Huntingdon and Lisa Norman of Atoka; two brothers, Ronnie Chambliss of Waverly and Lonnie Chambliss of Murfreesboro; and four grandchildren.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JAMES H. "BUD" COOK
1934-2008
HENRY - James H. "Bud" Cook, 73, died Monday, May 5, at Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services were Thursday, May 8, at 3 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church with Fred Shackelford officiating. Burial followed in Bevil cemetery in Paris.
Mr. Cook was born December 23, 1934 in Humboldt to the late Herbert S. Cook and Edith Ray Cook. He was former owner of Paris Gas Appliance for nine years, retired from Suburban Gas Company as a service technician, was in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command, and member of Springhill Baptist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Jean Cook; and one grandchild.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Guinn Cook of Henry; one daughter, Rena Kay (David) Walker of Midland, Michigan; two sons, James Dale Cook of Henry and John Wayne (Dianne) Register of Nashville; one sister, Robbie McDaniel of Henry; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ridgeway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JENNIFER GAIL PERRY
1983-2008
McKENZIE - Jennifer Gail Perry, 24, died Friday, May 9, at her home. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie with Rev. Jo Nell Copeland officiating. Burial followed in Manley cemetery in McKenzie.
Ms. Perry was born October 25, 1983 in McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Butler Perry; her maternal grandparents, Tom and Frances Pruitt; and two nephews.
Survivors include: her parents, Jan and Ilah Pruitt Perry; one brother, Clay Perry of McKenzie; three sisters: Christy Goodman and Cristel Barger, both of McKenzie and Tiffney Medlock of Huntingdon; her grandmother, Christine Perry of McKenzie; and several nieces and nephews.

JOSEPH RAYMOND "JOE" BREWER
1944-2008
DRESDEN - Joseph Raymond "Joe" Brewer, 63, died Tuesday, May 6, at Weakley County Nursing Home. Graveside services were Thursday, May 8, at Sunset cemetery in Dresden.
Mr. Brewer was born July 24, 1944 in Tiptonville to the late William Russell and Mary Gladys Brown Brewer. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include: one brother, Terry (Faye) Brewer of Dresden; one sister, Wanda Donaldson of Tiptonville; and 17 nieces and nephews.
Gallimore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LINDA JOYCE GRANT
1941-2008
WESTMINSTER, COLORADO: Linda Joyce Grant, 66, formerly of Clarksburg, died Friday, May 2, at Broomfield Skilled Nursing Home. Funeral services were Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Halter officiating. Burial followed in Clarksburg cemetery.
Mrs. Grant was born August 12, 1941 in Cedar Grove to the late Hubert Winchester and Elsie (Woodard) Winchester. She retired from the United States Postal Service after 29 years as an assistant postmaster and a member of the Clarksburg Missionary Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lindell "Buddy" Grant, and one grandson.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kelli (Stan) Carlock of Westminster, Colorado; two sons, Roger (Connie) Grant of Yuma and Mickey (Charlotte) Grant of Wildersville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

GARVIN ORA RENFROE
1923 - 2008
HUNTINGDON - Garvin Ora Renfroe, 85, died Tuesday, May 6, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were Thursday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Chase Funeral Home with Bro. Rufus Chandler and Bro. Kevin Holland officiating. Burial followed in Mixie cemetery.
Mr. Renfroe was born April 4, 1923 in Decatur County to the late William Leslie Renfroe and Audie Gertrude (Howell) Renfroe. He was a Navy World War II Veteran, a farmer and a Deacon for the Mixie Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Otto Renfroe, Ed Renfroe, James Renfroe, two sisters, Hazel Duke, Delorase Renfroe and one great granddaughter.
Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Virginia Renfroe; five children, Don (Tina) Renfroe of Hollow Rock, Royce Renfroe of Bruceton, Loyce (Kathy) Renfroe of Lexington, David (Vickie) Renfroe and Andoria (Kevin) Holland, both of Huntingdon; three sisters, Annie Lee (Joe) Montgomery of Nashville, Lottie (Ralph) Fisher of Lexington, and Mary Bivens of Parsons; one brother, Loy (Norma Dean) Renfroe of Parsons; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

BILLY EUGENE LINDSEY
McKENZIE - Billy Eugene Lindsey, 70, died Saturday, May 10, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 13, at 2:30 p.m. at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan. Burial followed in New Independence cemetery.
Mr. Lindsey was a retired machinist for McQuay Morris, retired U.S. Army veteran and member of First Baptist Church in Milan.
Survivors include: his wife, Donna Lindsey of McKenzie; two daughters, Paula Pruett of McKenzie and Paige Campbell of McLemoresville; two sons, Philip Lindsey of McKenzie and Patrick Lindsey of McLemoresville; stepmother, Alma Lindsey of Huntsville, Alabama; one sister, Catherine Moss of Ocoee, Florida; three brothers, John Robert Lindsey of Winter Haven, Florida, Joel Lindsey of Huntsville, Alabama, and Gaylon Lindsey of Birmingham, Alabama; and eight grandchildren.

PHILLIP WAYNE DAMESWORTH
1961-2008
McKENZIE - Phillip Wayne Damesworth, 47, died Friday, May 9, at Regional Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services were Sunday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Bobby Hollingsworth officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Paris.
Mr. Damesworth was born March 16, 1961 in Union City. He formerly worked at Republic Steel in McKenzie and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Eston Damesworth.
Survivors include: his wife, Stephanie Hayes Damesworth of McKenzie; his mother, Doris Sawyers Damesworth of Paris; two sons, Trevor Damesworth of Huntingdon and Blake Damesworth of McKenzie; two stepdaughters, Jasmine Barnhill of Huntingdon and Tori Lee of Tacom, Washington; and two brothers, Terry (Tammy) Damesworth of Paris and Kenneth (Billie) Damesworth of Lynnville, Kentucky.

JAMES CARRUTHERS GILMER, JR.
1920-2008
HOLLOW ROCK - James Carruthers Gilmer, Jr., 87, died Tuesday, May 6, at his home. The body was cremated.
Mr. Gilmer was born May 20, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to the late James Carruthers Gilmer, Sr. and Edith H. Hallgren. He was a surgical instrument salesman for Birchter Company, a WW II Army veteran and member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Grantz Gilmer of Hollow Rock; one son, Daniel James Gilmer of Nooksak, Washington; and two grandchildren.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

GLADYS JOYNER PHILLIPS
1915-2008
BUENA VISTA - Gladys Joyner Phillips, 92, died Friday, May 9, at her home. Funeral services were Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at Bruceton Funeral Home with Bro. Gus Broadway officiating. Burial followed in Old Hollow Rock Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Bruceton.
Mrs. Phillips was born October 10, 1915 in Benton County to the late William Arzo Mitchell and Eula Gay Reed Mitchell. She was a seamstress for Henry I. Siegel Co., Inc. and member of Old Hollow Rock Primitive Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Joyner; her second husband, Horace Phillips; and six brothers.
Survivors include: two sons, Bill (Phyllis) Joyner and Michael (Patrice) Joyner, both of Buena Vista; one sister, Louise Wofford of Eagle Creek; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

MARY ELLIS
1928-2008
PARIS - Mary Ellis, 80, died Thursday, May 8, at McKenzie Healthcare Center. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Steven Hoots officiating. Burial followed in Dumplin Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Ellis was born January 23, 1928 in Carroll County to the late Graden Pruitt and Mattie Mae Pearson Pruitt. She was a homemaker and member of United Pentecostal Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Ellis; one sister, Margie Davis; three brothers, Edward Pruitt, Thomas Harold Pruitt, and Marvin Earl Pruitt; and one grandson.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Evelyn Ellis of Paris; three sons, John Edward (Ramona) Ellis of Meridian, Texas, Wiley Randolph (Patricia) Ellis of Allenstown, New Hampshire, and Bobby Joe (Kathy) Ellis of Moody, Texas; five grandchildren and three step-granddaughters.
