John Wesley Tyson
HUNTINGDON - Mr. John Wesley Tyson, 35, died Monday, December 31 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, January 2 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steve Atwood officiating. Interment icon followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Tyson was born February 7, 1966 in Cleveland Texas. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving with the Construction Battalion where his career in the service let him travel to Guam, Italy, Midway Island, and Senegal, Africa. He was a member of the Eastview Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Mason (Sissy) Tyson, who died in March 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith Tyson, his father and stepmother, Wesley and Susan Tyson of Texas City, Texas; and a stepsister, Angela Story of Montgomery, Texas.

R. B. Robertson
HOLLOW ROCK - Mr. R. B. Robertson, 81, died Tuesday, January 1 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conduced on Thursday, January 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mixie Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Rufus Chandler and Bro. Kevin Holland officiating. Interment icon followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Robertson was born January 2, 1920 in Henderson County to the late Luther and Vessie Brewer Robertson. He was a World War II army veteran, having served in the 51st Combat Engineer Company, and was a member of the Mixie Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for over 40 years. His wife, Dimple Cook Robertson, who died April 6, 1999, a daughter, Martha Frances Robertson and three sisters, Aldeana Parker, Marine Holmes, and Naomi Robertson also preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, David Robertson of Hollow Rock; two brothers, Ezra Gray Robertson of Sardis and Tennie Ray Robertson of Chicago, Illinois; two grandsons and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lonner V. Schiffner
McKENZIE - Services for Lonner V. Schiffner, 92, were Sunday, January 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Carr officiating. Burial was in Shiloh cemetery.
Mrs. Schiffner died Friday, January 4 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born April 22, 1909 in Trezevant to the late Ruth and John Wadkins. She was a member of the Long Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Oscar F. Schiffner; a daughter, Frances Wright of McKenzie, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Robert Meredith Thomas
McKENZIE - Services for Robert Thomas, 73, were Monday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mr. Thomas, a retired electrical engineer from General Electric Corp. in Salem, Virginia, died Thursday, January 3 at Brian Nursing Care in Fincastle, Virginia.
He was born August 10, 1928 in McKenzie.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles Larry Thomas of Nashville and Lanny C. Thomas of New Orleans, Louisiana.

James E. Cox
SPRINGVILLE - Services for retired electrician and Henry County civil servant James E. Cox, 85 were at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 2 at Springville Church of Christ where he was a member. Charles Cate and Willard Alls of Springville Church of Christ officiated the service. Burial was in Poplar Grove cemetery at Springville. McEvoy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Cox died Monday afternoon, December 31 at Henry County Medical Center.
He was born August 7, 1916 in Henry County to the late James H. and Mary Clendenin Cox. His first wife Ruth Paschall Cox preceded him in death April 16, 1984.
Survivors include his wife Thyra Dawson Cox of Louisville, Kentucky; a daughter Maury Nell Grooms of Paris; three sons, James Cox, Jr. and Billy Cox of Springville and Joe Cox of Paris; one sister, Kathryn Kendall of McKenzie; a daughter-in-law, Judy Cox of Springville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

Thomas M. Pekarchick
BRUCETON - Services for Thomas M. Pekarchick, 69, were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Camden with Father Ed Fisher officiating. Burial followed at Prospect cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Pekarchick died Sunday, December 30 at Camden General Hospital in Camden.
A retired electrician for TVA, he was fourth degree Knight of Columbus, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Carroll County Chairman of St. Jude Fund-raising committee and a veteran.
He was born October 8, 1932 in Campbell, Ohio to the late John and Helen Tirpak Pekarchick.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda England Pekarchick; three daughters, Dawn Pekarchick of Sevierville, Michelle Johnson of Knoxville and Dana Pekarchick of Bruceton; a son, Michael Pekarchick of Bruceton; two sisters, Margart Best of Hopedale, Ohio and Patricia Hruby of Hammond, Louisiana and three grandchildren.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Audraine Gooch
HUNTINGDON - Mr. James Audraine Gooch, 87, died Wednesday, January 2 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 5 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Rufus Chandler, A. G. Hayes and Lynn Stapleton officiating. Interment icon followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Gooch was born December 2, 1914 in Carroll County to the late Arzie and Mary Ann Stokes Gooch. He was a retired millwright, a deacon and the oldest member of Concord Baptist Church. His first wife, Vida Roark Gooch; who died in 1959, his second wife, Eloise Bates Gooch; and two brothers, Joe Lee Gooch and Dwayne Gooch preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, James Waldon Gooch of Memphis; three daughters, Patricia Wilson of Huntingdon, Karen Simmons of Antioch and Pamela Edwards of Yuma; a stepdaughter, Mary Joe Watson of Joliet, Illinois; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

James Alfred House
HOLLOW ROCK - Mr. James Alfred House, 90, died Thursday, January 3 at the Decatur County Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 4 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother James Daniels officiating. Interment icon followed at Prospect cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. House was born April 7, 1911 in Carroll County to the late William Andrew and Cora Bell Hardy House. He was a truck driver for Spector, a member of Prospect Baptist Church and a World War II veteran. His wife, Lorene House, who died in July 1998, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Harris of Parsons and Patty Henley of Jackson; two sons, James M. House of Memphis and Joseph R. House of Toone; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Graydon "Bud" Peeples
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Graydon "Bud" Peeples, 83, died Friday, December 28 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, December 30 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment icon followed in Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. Peeples was born January 18, 1918 to the late Hiram Reeves and Jewel Thomas Peeples. He was a retired World War II army veteran and a retired employee of the United States Postal Service.
Survivors include his wife Alice Peeples of Huntingdon; one son, Chandler Peeples of Glendale, Arizona; four daughters, Sue Brink of Smyrna, Ann Thorne of Nashville, Lisa Brawner of McKenzie, and Laura Clifft of Huntingdon and eleven grandchildren.

Fred Milton, Sr.
McKENZIE - Services for Henry County native Joseph Fred Milton, Sr. were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5 at Johnson Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in McKenzie, where he was a member. The Rev. Wade Allen officiated the services. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery in McKenzie.
Milton, 67, died Monday, December 31, at Methodist Hospital of McKenzie.
He was born December 25, 1934 to the late John and Artie Mai Owen Milton. He was married to the former Jeanette Jones, who died July 29, 1994. A sister, Pearlie Mai Tharpe, also preceded him in death.
Milton was a member of Confidence Masonic Lodge 17 in Paris.
Survivors include four daughters, Harriett Taylor, Mary Hampton, and Suzette Edmonson, all of McKenzie and Lisa Holder of Memphis; three sons, Joseph Fred Milton, Jr., Joe Milton and David Milton, all of McKenzie; four sisters, Mattie Joy Porter and Paggie Ruth Henry of Henry, Lara B. Warren of Trezevant and Annie Jean Lawrence of McKenzie; four brothers, John W. Milton of Henry, George Milton and Eddie Lewis Milton of McKenzie and James Lee Milton of Atlanta; fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bennie B. Smith
TREZEVANT - Services for Mrs. Bennie B. Smith, 90, were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 3 at Bodkin Funeral Home. Burial followed in Campground cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Monday, December 31 at Methodist Healthcare-McKenzie.

Welma Lee White
HOLLOW ROCK - Services for Welma Lee White, 91, were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 31 at Faith Baptist Church in Hollow Rock with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Burial was in Marlboro cemetery near Vale. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. White, a retired seamstress for HIS Company died Saturday, December 29.
She was born November 19, 1910 in Vale to the late Charles William King and Mamie Hammett King. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Newhouse of Hollow Rock; a brother, Billy King of Hollow Rock; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Cecil W. White, a son Clarence W. White, a granddaughter Melissa Jane White and a grandson Christopher William White preceded her in death.

Joseph Clayton Cary
McKENZIE - Services for Mr. Joseph Clayton Cary, 68, were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22 at Calvary Tabernacle with Rev. Stanley Medlin officiating. Interment icon followed at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mr. Cary, a retired employee of Milan Arsenal, died Monday, May 20 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born on June 27, 1933 to the late Dexter Little Cary and Johnny Wyatt Cary in Lexington. He was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Reaves Cary; two daughters, Teresa Cary and Karen Sadler, both of McKenzie; two sons, Mike Cary and Daniel Cary, both of McKenzie; two sisters, Linda Kelly of Leach and Brenda Springer of Huntingdon; one brother, David Cary of Huntingdon; and two grandchildren.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas E. Akins
TREZEVANT - Services for Thomas E. Akins, 83, were held on Wednesday, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home Chapel in Trezevant with Bobby Mann officiating.
Mr. Akins, a carpenter, died Monday, May 20 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born August 14, 1919 in Trezevant to the late Beulah Blaylock Akins and Willie Akins. His wife Thelma Winsell Akins also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Prince of Huntingdon; a son, Tommy Akins of Westport; a sister, Ruby Bateman of McKenzie; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Clellan French
McKENZIE - Clellan French, 72, died Wednesday, May 22 at his residence. Services were at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 24 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Trull officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery in McKenzie.
Mr. French, son of the late Norman French and Eunie Mae French, was born May 12, 1930. He was a retired pipe fitter and Chief Union Steward, Past Commander and Lifetime Member of the VFW Post 4939 in McKenzie, member of American Legion Post 89 in Paris, and American Legion Post 94 in Dresden. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. His wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Flippin French and two sisters, Lorene Johnson and Margie Job preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Chandler and Sandy Morgan, both of McKenzie; two sons, Ricky French and Norman French, both of McKenzie; two brothers, Aubrey French and Jerry French, both of Michigan and ten grandchildren, Bryan French, Ryan French, Beth French, John French, Julie French, Christopher Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Richard Chandler, Rachel Chandler and PNSN Mikki French.
