Edwin "Ed" Smith, 78, passed from this earth, Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 22, 1927. He was a retired farmer and owner of Ed Smith Equipment Company and a member of Old Leb Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, the late Norman and Sallie Henley Smith; brothers Gordon Smith, Benford Smith, Harold Smith and Lytle Smith. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Morton Smith of Murfreesboro; daughter Marcia (Barry) Lamb of Rockvale; grandsons Darren (Diana) Lamb of Murfreesboro and Lance Lamb and loving friend, Renee' Puckett of Rockvale; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Lamb of Rockvale and Mia Lamb of Murfreesboro; sisters Wilma Pinkston of Shelbyville, Marie Sledge of Murfreesboro, Mary Westbrooks of the Link Community, and Ann Windrow of Franklin; and twin brothers, Ellis Smith of Murfreesboro and Marion Smith of Christiana.

Mattie Belle Smotherman Manire, 82, of Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at Boulevard Terrace Nursing and Rehab Center. A native of Bedford County, she lived most of her life in Rutherford County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Marcus Manire; her parents, Fletcher and Kitty Smotherman Faulkner; son Thomas Larry Smotherman; brother Edward "Buster" Faulkner; sisters Sara Cook, Temperance Leyhew and Ann Faulkner.
Survivors include her son, Mark Smotherman of Unionville; daughters Hazel Elaine Smitty of Murfreesboro, Peggy Clanton and Marie (William) Dalton, both of Rockvale; brother Aaron Faulkner of Murfreesboro; sisters Frances Lancaster of Murfreesboro and Edna Smith of Shelbyville; and 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Nancy Petty Jackson, age 49, of Triune died Monday, July 3, 2006, at home. She was a native of Triune and a member of Triune United Methodist Church. Ms. Jackson had worked for Specialty Arms II and was an avid hunter. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jean Burke Petty. She is survived by her children, Sydney Miller and Joey Jackson; father and stepmother, Sidney James Petty and Maggie Petty, brothers Richard Terry Petty, James Randall Petty and John Michael Petty, grandchildren Cole and Abigail Miller and Parker Shirley; and niece Kelli Neal.

Mrs. Romans was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mary Watson Speegle; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Romans. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard Romans of Rockvale; daughter Shirley (Leonard) Brown of Murray, Ky.; sons Thomas (Joyce) Romans, Gary (Barbara) Romans, Robert (Melody) Romans and Ronnie Romans, all of Murfreesboro, and Willard (Faye) Romans of the Midland community; sister-in-law Rachel Speegle; grandchildren Pam (Tim) Curray, Dere (Scott) Brown, Erek (Dana) Romans, Cindy Romans, Robbie Allen, Michael (Shannon) Romans, Jack Romans, Richard Romans, Daniel and David Romans, all of Murfreesboro, Derek (Debbie) Romans of the Midland community, Rhonda Thomas of McMinnville, Jimmy Romans of West Jefferson, N.C., Tina Burnside of Junction City, Kan., and Sgt. 1st Class Timothy (Nadine) Brown of Athol, Mass.; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Celia Jane McPeek, 73, of Rockvale, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2005, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. A native of Grundy, Virginia, she lived in Rutherford County for the past 20 years. She was a member of the Baptist church and a homemaker.
Mrs. McPeek was preceded in death by her parents, the late John R. and Eveline Justice Wallace. She is survived by her husband, Linton Curtis McPeek Sr.; sons Linton Curtis McPeek Jr. of Rockvale, Johnny McPeek of Deer Park, Texas and Joe Eddie McPeek of Deer Park, Texas; daughters Mary Alice Burgess of Murfreesboro, Anna Mae Cowan of Dayton, Texas and Wanda Sue Blue of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Bill Wallace, of Arizona; sisters Crecie Baker of Homecreek, Virginia and Bea Mullins of Kentucky; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Lela May Hudson Reed, age 85, of Unionville, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 in Shelbyville after an extended illness. Mrs. Reed was a native of Williamson County and was a daughter of the late Lee and Mary Beasley Hudson. She was a homemaker, a former food service employee at Community School and retired from American Can Company in Shelbyville. She was a member of Enon Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Elder W.H. Reed, Jr. of Unionville; daughter Dottie Adcock of Shelbyville; sons Charles Reed of Tullahoma and Curtis Reed of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.

Annie Ruth Hendrix Vincion, age 88, of the Longview Community of Bedford County, died Sunday evening, June 18, 2006 in Shelbyville after an extended illness. She was a native of Rockvale and was a daughter of the late Richard Thomas and Tidy Ann Maupin Hendrix. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gordon Vincion who died in 1980; a daughter, Margaret Sue Vincion who died in 1960; and by a son, Robert Glen Vincion who died in 1981.
Mrs. Vincion is survived by daughters Lillie Ruth Penn of Marysktown, Florida, Ester Marie Hall of Hendersonville, Wilma Jane Myrick of the Longview Community of Bedford County, Linda Lynch of Unionville, Alene Deal of the Hickory Hill Community of Bedford County, and Rebecca Collins of the Longview Community of Bedford County; sisters Grace Hooper of Smyrna, and Alene Brown of Murfreesboro; brother Dave Hendrix of Murfreesboro; 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.

She was a loving wife, daughter, sister and friend.
Mrs. Hobbs was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Hill and Virginia Dyer Hill Lee, stepfather Charles Lee and sister Shirley Darlene Hill. She is survived by her husband, Doyle Dwight Hobbs of Rockvale; and stepbrothers Tony Lee and Frankie Lee, both of Manchester, and Charles Lee of Murfreesboro.

She was the daughter of James Vaughter and the late Callie Bell Smith Vaughter and the late Jesse Johson. She was a member of New Life Christian Church.
Survivors include sons Nathaniel (Viola) Jordan Sr. of Eagleville and Anthony C. Jordan of Germany; stepsons Fred L. Jordan of Woodbury, James (Patricia) Jordan of Nashville and Carl Yeargins of Murfreesboro; daughters Marjorie T. Jordan of Murfreesboro, Priscella Jordan of Rockvale and April (Alex) Jordan-Ewing of Rockvale; stepdaughter Katherine (Tony) Fulton of Murfreesboro; brothers William (Margo) Vaughter and Jesse (Emma Vaughter), both of Murfreesboro; sisters Sarah (James) Harding and Mary (Charley) King, both of Murfreesboro; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Harry Edward Raines, age 77, of Rockvale died Saturday, June 3, 2006. Survivors include his wife, Stella Raines; sons Billy (Debi) Raines and Barry (Judy) Raines; daughters Jean (Billy) Mitchell and Sue (Danny) Kilburn; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brothers Bryant Raines Jr. and Emmitt Raines.

Elaine 'Granny' Freeman, age 93, of Eagleville, died Friday, May 26, 2006 in Franklin. She was a native of Bedford County and a daughter of the late William T. and Rebecca Boyce Turner. She was a homemaker, a member of the College Grove Senior Citizens and the Red Hat Society of College Grove. She was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Marie Freeman, and a grandson Ken Freeman.
Mrs. Freeman is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Sue Lamb of College Grove; son Walter Freeman, Jr. of the Wheel community; 8 grandchildren: Tyson Freeman, Klaine Freeman, Regina Turnage, George Lamb, Tommy Lamb, Chris Freeman, John Freeman, James Freeman; 15 great grandchildren: Wendy Martin, Cole Freeman, Jody Brannon, Lauren Freeman, Jordan Turnage, Taylor Turnage, Daniel Lamb, Sydney Lamb, Sam Lamb, Blake Freeman, Emma Freeman, Jill McKaney; 2 great-great grandchildren Marcus Martin and Tori Martin.
