Katherine Clark Woodson, age 82, of Eagleville, died Thursday, October 16, 2008 at National Health Care Center. She was a native of Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late James "Jim" Edward and Betsy Watson Clark.
She is survived by her sons, Leslie F. "Buddy" Woodson Jr. and his wife, Belinda of Eagleville and Charlie Woodson and his wife, Kathy of Rockvale; sisters, Faye (Robert) Parker and Nancy (Wesley) Christopher, both of Murfreesboro; two half brothers, Bobby (Virginia) Clark and John (Francis) Clark, both of Murfreesboro; and grandchildren, Megan, Dan, and Robbie Woodson.
Mrs. Woodson was married
to the late Leslie F. (Bud) Woodson Sr. who died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Evelyn Patton Clark; brother, James Edward (Bubba) Clark Jr. and a sister, Deloris June Richardson. Mrs. Woodson was a member of the Presbyterian church and a homemaker.

Russell Crouch, 65 of Christiana passed away Monday, October 13, 2008. Mr. Crouch was born in Bedford County to the late William Buford and Rhoda Crouch. He worked as a painter for 35 years and was a member of Midland Baptist Church.
Mr. Crouch is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Flippo; and brother, James Crouch. He is survived by his son, Tim Rezer of North Carolina; sisters, Billie Sue King of Midland Community; Betty Baten of Lewisburg; Marlene West of Shelbyville; Marie Cothran of Nashville; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Lisa "Lee" Harris.

Agnes "Marie" Pope, age 77, of Smyrna passed away Friday, October 10, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. A native of Davidson County, she lived most of her life in Rutherford County. She was a supervisor with the State of Tennessee and a member of the Church of God.
She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her parents, William Jesse McCloud and Olala Lawson and a grandson, James Michael Pope.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Hershel Alvin Pope of Smyrna; children, Janice Campbell of Mt. Juliet, Pat Lee of Murfreesboro, Wayne (Tammy) West of Smyrna, Terry (Martha) West of Unionville, Gary West of Shelbyville, Michael (Patricia) Pope of Smyrna and Loretta (Jimmy) Harper of Eagleville; grandchildren, Bobby Campbell, Dean Kimball, Patrick Campbell, Christopher Campbell, Michael Morrison, Brittany Pedigo, Matthew Haffner, Ashley West, Daniel West, Christopher West, Jeremy West, Jason West, Crystal Hollon, Brandon Harper and Brent Harper and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Maggie Lorraine Estes of Goldboro, NC and Bertha Sue Hicklen of Smyrna.

Carmen Irene Bentley, age 90, of Murfreesboro passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at NHC. A native of Manitowoc, Wis., she has lived in Murfreesboro for the past 24 years. She graduated from Deaconess Hospital in 1938 and was employed as a nurse.
Mrs. Bentley was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Bentley, and a grandson, Keith Buchholz. She is survived by two sons, William A. (Kaye) Bentley of Rockvale and Tom (Kathy) Bentley of Vanleer, Tenn.; daughter, Sharon (Roger) Hobbs of Rockvale; 7 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Donald Compton, age 55, of Bell Buckle died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008. He was a native of Bedford County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Compton, and father, R. C. Compton. He was a member of North Fork Baptist Church and retired manager of Magic Markets.
He is survived by mother, Betty Jo Beeman of Shelbyville; daughters, Dee Dee Shell and Tracy Morton, both of Smyrna; grandchildren, Alanna, Blaine and Jesse Morton and Alyssa Shell; brothers, David Compton and Tim Compton, both of Unionville, Charlie Compton of CT and Phillip Clark of Fla.; and sister, Alice Fraser of NY.

Mary "Bet" Hester Pugh, age 76, of Bell Buckle, died Friday, September 26, 2008 in Monteagle following an extended illness. She was a native of Wilson County and a daughter of the late William Hardy and Dorothy Peek Hester. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Pugh was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Raymond Pugh who died in 1984.
Survivors are a daughter, Debbie Diane Upchurch of Bell Buckle; three sons, Donald Pugh of Unionville, Bobby Pugh of Chapel Hill and Jerry Pugh of Shelbyville; two sisters, Dorothy Hopkins of Lewisburg and Juanita Beard of Nashville; two brothers, Norman Hester of Webb, MO and Billy Joe Hester of Arkansas; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Earl Carlton, age 86, of the Rover community of Bedford County, died Thursday morning, September 18, 2008 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Carlton was born in Bedford County and was a son of the late Clayton and Maggie Smotherman Carlton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Normandy Invasion and many other campaigns in Central Europe. He and his wife, Lavada, were owners and operators of Carlton s General Store in Rover for over 60 years. Mr. Carlton actively attended St. Paul United Methodist Church, Rover Baptist Church and Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church, all of which meant very much to him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Reid.
Mr. Carlton is survived by his wife, Lavada Carlton of Rover community; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Dugan of Murfreesboro; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lana Carlton of Rover community; sister, Jean (Sonny) Glasscock of Halls Mill community of Bedford County; brother, John (Cordy) Carlton, Sr. of Shelbyville; five grandchildren, Stephenie (Kyle) Daniel, Jeremy (Allison) Carlton, Alex Belew, Katie Dugan and Thomas Dugan; and four great grandchildren, Leighton, Alena and Reina Daniel and Sean Carlton.

Sara Elrod Taylor, age 98, of Eagleville passed away peacefully on September 15, 2008 at NHC of Cool Springs. She was born on April 26, 1910 in the Porterfield community to the late Charles Clark Elrod and Pearl Alexander Elrod. She was a former employee of the Murfreesboro Bank and Trust company and a homemaker. She was a member of Eagleville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Rush Taylor Jr.; her loving twin sister, Mary E. Knight; her brothers, Elmer Elrod, J. Smith Elrod, Bruce H. Elrod, Hoyte Elrod, Edward Elrod and Scott Elrod. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Peggy Taylor of Eagleville; four grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Less, Tara (Char) Cochran, Jim (Kerrie) Taylor and Lynne (Thurston) Farrar; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor, McKenzie and Brady Cochran, and Hannah and Jacob Less.

Lynn Ray Gannon of Murfreesboro, passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at Vanderbilt Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Norene, Lynn was the son of the late William Murfree Gannon Sr. and Jennie Wilson Lane Gannon. He was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys G. Riley, Patricia G. Reed, Thelma G. Cotrell and brothers, William M. Gannon, Jr., Doyle E. Gannon and Roy W. Gannon.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Nelson Gannon; daughter, Leslie G. (Billy) Bush of Rockvale; sons, Jason L. Gannon of Atlanta, GA, and John Gannon of Murfreesboro; grandson, Benjamin Tyler Bush of Columbia and granddaughters, Jennifer and Maxie Bush of Rockvale. He is also survived by sisters, Virginia G. Shipp of Murfreesboro and Edna G. (Sammy) Forbes of Lebanon.
Lynn retired after 41 years service with Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, Murfreesboro, and was a veteran having served in the United States Navy. He was a Certified Journeyman Lineman and later worked as Operations Supervisor at MTEMC. Lynn was a member of Westvue church of Christ, Murfreesboro. His hobbies were going on camping trips and motorcycle riding.

Jim Higginbotham, 43, of Midland Community, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Heritage Medical Center. He was born to the late James Fullerton and Dorothy Higginbotham. He was a motorcycle mechanic with Classic Custom Cycle. Jim was an avid motorcycle rider and was in the Dart League in Murfreesboro.
Jim is survived by his sisters, Joanne Velez of Nashville, Ruth Sherrill of Manchester and Beth Underwood of Eagleville; nephews, Justin, Nathan, Brandon, Hampton, Fisher and Tommy; nieces, Abby and Samantha.

David "Bubba" Shelton, age 51, of Christiana, formerly of Eagleville, died Monday, September 1, 2008 from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. Mr. Shelton was a native of Rutherford County and was a son of the late Robert Houston "Bob" and Rachel Earlene Dalton Shelton Jr. He was a graduate of Eagleville High School Class of 1975 and was employed with Crest Cadillac of Nashville where he was a Certified GM Master Craftsman.
Mr. Shelton is survived by his sister, Debra (Garry) Lawrence of Chapel Hill; niece, Susan (Guy) Waggoner of Bowling Green, Ky.; nephew, Trey Lawrence of Chapel Hill; and two great nephews, Daniel and Dalton Waggoner, both of Bowling Green, Ky.

Marvin King, age 65, of LaVergne, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. He was a native of Rutherford County and was preceded in death by his father, Robert King and two sisters, Mary Ann Moore and Dorothy King. He was retired from State Farm, and an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife, Anna King; son, Ashley King and his fiancée, Jessica Swann of Smyrna; daughter, Nicole and her husband, Clark Harrell of Smyrna; grandchildren, Rebecca Carden, Reagan, Abbington, Rachel and Jeffrey Harrell; mother, Annie Lee King of College Grove; and brother, James Robert King of College Grove.
