A native of Bedford County, Mrs. Griffy was a daughter of the late Thomas Elroy and Delia Carlton Leverette. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griffy was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Griffy; 2 sisters, Myrtle Sherrod and Wilma Leverette; and 4 brothers, James, Mitchell, Dorris and Doyle Leverette.
Survived by her husband, Sewell Griffy of Unionville; 2 sons, Jeff (Janice) Griffy of Columbia and Mark Griffy of Unionville; 2 brothers, Roosevelt and Marvin Leverette of Unionville; 3 grandchildren, Patrick, Andrea and Kyle Griffy.

Delgay Read McElroy, age 65, of Murfreesboro died July 2, 2008 at National Healthcare Center. She was a native of Rockvale. She was preceded in death by her father, Hollis Read.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Larry McElroy; daughters, Hollie (Tim) Adcock, Jackson and Terrie (Ashley) Hayes, Rockvale; mother, Mrs. Guy Gordon Read, Murfreesboro; brother, Pettus (Judy) Read, Rockvale; grandchildren, Jackson and Caroline Adcock; sister-in-law, Becky Augustine, Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McElroy was a member of Northminister Presbyterian Church and a retired school teacher having taught at Holloway High School and David Youree. She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Read.

Jackson Bright Lamb, infant son of Maggie and Patrick Lamb of Chapel Hill, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.

John D. Byous, 81, of Rockvale passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Mr. Byous was a Mastor Mason for 50 plus years of the Grand Lodge of Texas City, Texas and was a member of Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. While in the Navy he was honored with the Victory World War II medal.
Mr. Byous was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Gladys Byous. He is survived by his wife, June Byous of Rockvale; two daughters, Alice (Jim) Fernie of Texas and Jan (Mark) Watson of Rockvale; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Retired Sgt. 1st Class James Paul Reeves, age 79, of Murfreesboro passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. A native of Oxford, Ark., he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947 and retired in 1970 after 23 years of service. He was in the 87th Airborne Division, and served in World War II - occupied Germany and based in occupied Japan until his service in Korea War. He served 3 tours in Vietnam and then retired. He graduated with a Criminal Justice Degree from MTSU and was Chief of Police of Eagleville for a number of years. While in the military, he received numerous medals. These include the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 campaign stars, Master Parachutist Badge and many more. He was a paratrooper, and was the originator of the paratrooper club of Fort Campbell.
Sgt. 1st Class Reeves was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Gee and his parents, Owen and Mable Owens Reeves. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Cortner Reeves of Murfreesboro; children, Christopher Cortner and Barbara Cortner-Holland; brothers, Tom May and wife Nancy of Exeter, MO and Don Readshaw of Checter, VA; sisters, Elizabeth Ross of Hermosa Beach, CA and Imo Sharmon of Carlsbad, CA; many nieces and nephews; uncle, Gerald Owens of Jessup, MD; aunt, May Owens of Neosho, MO; and cousins, Joe Cash, Betty Watson, David Cash and Jack Skidmore.

Leila Mae Woodson Lynch, age 79, of Murfreesboro passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at her residence after an extended illness surrounded by her loving family. A native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County, she and her husband were the owners of Lynch’s Restaurant Dairy Bar in Eagleville for 22 years. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 61 years, where she taught Sunday school and was the church pianist.
Mrs. Lynch was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Louise Farris Woodson; brothers, J. D. Woodson, Word Woodson, Leslie "Bud" Woodson and John Neely; and sisters, Margaret Sue Woodson and Mary Elizabeth Harrelson. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy T. Lynch Sr. of Murfreesboro; sons, Billy Lynch (Rita) of Franklin and Tony Lynch (Michelle) of Murfreesboro; daughter, Betty Gayle McCory (Cecil) of Clinton, Miss.; sisters, Emma Gloria Ralston and Louise McKnight, both of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Lynch, Scott (Allison) Lynch, Niki Lynch, James "Lyn" Lynch and Ryan Lynch; and great-grandchildren, Dillon, Denton and Dalton Lynch, Haley and Grayson Lynch and Oliver Lynch.

Jerry Wood, 66, of the Midland Community, passed away Saturday, June 07, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. He was born in Rutherford County to the late Curtis and Beatrice Pinkston Wood. He retired in 1998 after 26 years of truck driving with Yellow Freight. He was a devoted husband and father and a member of the Campground Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Dana Jean Wood. He is survived by his wife, Jean Wood of Midland; daughters, Sheila Wood King (Mark) of Ft. Sarah Smotherman Bryant Robinson, of Christiana, left this life of 86 years on Monday, June 02, 2008 to attend her heavenly homecoming that God has prepared just for her. Her new home is completed and she has gone to dwell there with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, along with all her loved ones who have gone before her.
She was a native of Rutherford County. She attended Middle Tennessee State College. She was a member of Midland Heights Baptist Church in Shelbyville.
She was the daughter of the late Talmadge and Mary Rowland Smotherman. She was preceded in death by her first husband James A. Bryant, Jr. in 1980, her son Birch Bryant in 2004 and sister Mattie Lou Bragg Brock.
She is survived by her husband Dewey Robinson, two daughters, Jeraldine "Jerrie" Bryant Hester and husband Wayne of Beechgrove, Angela Bryant Sellers and husband Charles of Christiana; and daughter-in-law Patricia "Pat" Bryant of Murfreesboro; grandsons, Kelly Hester and wife Kelly Marie, Leslie Hester and wife Sherry and Troy Hester; granddaughter, Dody Sellers Vaughter; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Sarah was an avid gardener, nature lover and loved her pets dearly.

He was a native and life long resident of Rutherford County. He was a former Cabinet worker at Ideal Cabinet Shop and a member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fannie Corbitt Simpson; brothers, Albert Simpson and Robert Simpson Jr.; sister, Frances Merritt.
