Stephen Mark Miller died peacefully at his home in Eagleville on the evening of July 27, 2009. Surrounded by his father, mother and two brothers, he was enveloped in a circle of love as he finally gave up his battle with cancer.
Stephen was a principle in the Centering Prayer Group at Christ Church. Stephen was born at Sheppard AFB, Texas on July 8, 1952 and attended schools in Seattle, Baltimore and finally, Huntsville. He was a 1970 graduate of Huntsville High, attended Birmingham Southern University and the University of New Hampshire where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. He then matriculated at Vanderbilt Law School where he earned the Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree in 1978. After serving with law firms in Nashville, Stephen set out as an independent Attorney in Eagleville in 2006 with a practice centered on Entertainment and Music Law as it involved entertainment and intellectual properties. Stephen was an avid Vanderbilt fan and was an excellent tennis and basketball player.
He dearly loved his Eagleville home, nestled in rolling hills and affording him a broad vista of green fields as he sat on his front porch eating breakfast. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he fought hard to overcome it with the best medical help available and with rigorous attention to diet and exercise, but the disease was implacable. Shortly after his 57th birthday, he was admitted to St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville where his doctors stated that they could do no more for him. With that news, Stephen insisted on leaving the hospital and returning to his beloved Eagleville where the Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro was engaged to assist his final days. His parents commuted back and forth from Huntsville to insure that a family member was always at his bedside. His brothers also took turns to be with him.
He is survived by his parents, John and Barbara Miller; his son, Emmett Miller, Emmett’s mother Patti; brothers Christopher and Patrick, Patrick’s wife Dawn and their children Reed and Shelby; and numerous cousins.

Mr. Williams was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church. He was a farmer, retired as an employee of General Electric, and a mail carrier at Rockvale Post Office. He attended Rockvale School.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church in memory of Mr. Williams.
