Birtha Lee Bates, 63, of Memphis, homemaker, died Tuesday at Methodist University Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at N.J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home with burial in Union cemetery. Mrs. Bates, the wife of Johnny Lee Bates, also leaves five daughters, Jeanette Newby-Newman, Geneva Thomas and Josephine McGhee, all of Memphis, Bertha Watson of Chicago and Voner Ford of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sons, Johnny Lee Bates Jr. of Memphis and Arthur Newby Jr. of Chicago, 27 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Roy 'Buddy' Brewer, 67, of Arlington, retired foreman for Shelby County Correctional Center, died Thursday at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital. Services will be at noon Monday at Gilfield Baptist Church in Arlington, where he was a member, with burial in Gilfield cemetery. Millington Funeral Home has charge. He was a member of Independent Pallbearer Society Six. Mr. Brewer, the husband of Annie Brewer, also leaves two daughters, Sharon Frazier of Millington and Linda Rone of Arlington; three sons, Earnest Hayes of Memphis, Stanley Roddy of Millington and Roy Lee Brewer of Arlington; a sister, Lena Dean of Lakeland, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lawrence F. Buford, 86, of Memphis, retired from International Harvester, died Tuesday at Methodist University Hospital. Services will be at noon Monday at M.J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. He leaves two daughters, Grace Curry and Michelle Buford, both of Greenville, Miss.; four sons, Lawrence Buford Jr. of Washington, Kenneth Buford of Nashville, Lawrence Buford of Memphis and Michael Buford of Florida; three sisters, Hosie B. White of Chicago, and Brenda Smith and Barbara Logan, both of Memphis; a brother, Frank Buford of Memphis; a companion with whom he lived, Mae Willie Davis, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kelly Davenport Carlsen, 42, of Millington, died Friday at Spring Gate Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home with burial in Northridge Woodhaven cemetery. She was a Baptist. She leaves three daughters, Amber Carlsen of Germantown, and Arita Carlsen and Aria Carlsen, both of Tennessee; a son, Jason Carlsen of Cordova; her parents, Linda J. and Larry M. Davenport, and two sisters, Lorena Davenport and Sandra Boyd, all of Millington; a brother, Lee Triplett of Crestview, Fla., and her grandmother, Eva Davenport of Northville, N.Y. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Huntington Disease Society of America.

Landon 'Buddy' Covington Jr., 70, of Memphis, retired manager for Allied System and Plough, died Thursday at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Olive Branch and a special reserve officer for Shelby County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Covington, the husband of Betty Covington for 30 years, also leaves a daughter, Angela Sneathern of Rosemark; a son, Mark Covington of Cordova; two sisters, Barbara Fowler of Memphis and Jane Wade of Richardson, Texas, and six grandchildren.

Rivers Loller Crabtree, 87, of Lucy, former employee of Goldsmith's, died Thursday at Covington Manor Nursing Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lucy Baptist Church, where she was a member, with burial in Big Creek cemetery. Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel has charge. She was a graduate of Humes High School. Mrs. Crabtree, the widow of Robert Clinton Crabtree, leaves a daughter, Dee Ann Holcomb of Beeville, Texas; two sons, Robert Clinton Crabtree Jr. of Memphis and Jeff Crabtree of Millington, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James H. Edmiston, 79, of Memphis, retired steam fitter for Local 614, died Thursday at Methodist South Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill cemetery South. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a Baptist. Mr. Edmiston, the husband of Charlotte Edmiston, also leaves two sons, Ronnie Edmiston and Gary Edmiston, both of Memphis; two sisters, Lucille Rayburn of Memphis and Juanita Anderson of San Bernardino, Calif., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was a communicant of St. Thomas Catholic Church and St. Paul Catholic Church. Mrs. Ellers, the widow of Edwin P. Ellers, leaves a daughter, Pat Beasley of Memphis; three sisters, Melba Golightly and Lorraine Eschbach, both of Memphis, and Elma Pirani of Mississippi; a brother, Elmo Battistelli of Mississippi, and a grandson. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. She was an Army Nursing Corps veteran, a graduate of Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and a member of American Nurses Association, the American Legion and First Baptist Church of Memphis. Mrs. Lineberry was the widow of William Marion Lineberry Jr. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Baptist Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
