Florence M. 'Peggy' Smith, 96, of Memphis, retired secretary for Helen of Memphis, died Saturday at Saint Francis Hospital. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in Memorial Park. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. Mrs. Smith, the widow of Ray Smith, leaves two stepdaughters, Marcella Walker of Collierville and Donna Pruyne of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a stepson, Billy J. Smith of Memphis; a brother, Daniel Prater of Toledo, Ohio, and nine grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Heart Association.

Emmanuel Lee Sterling, 77, of Memphis, retired chef for Wilson World Hotel, died Monday at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ with burial in New Park cemetery. N.J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home has charge. Mr. Sterling, the husband of Jessie Moody Sterling, also leaves two daughters, Betty Jo Brown and Brenda J. Sterling, and a son, Emmanuel Sterling Jr., all of Jackson, Miss.; two stepsons, Michael Moody of Memphis and Andre Moody of Atlanta; two sisters, Willie V. Kelly and Fa Doshia Jamison, both of Jackson; two brothers, L.C. Sterling and Jessie Sterling Jr., both of Benton Harbor, Mich., eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Wheatley, 85, of Memphis, retired from Cook & Love Shoes, died Monday at Methodist North Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel with burial in Memory Hill Gardens. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and Young at Heart. Mrs. Wheatley, the widow of Alvin Wheatley, leaves a son, Thomas Wheatley of Memphis; two caregivers, her granddaughter, Kim Sullivan, and her granddaughter's husband, Patrick Sullivan, another grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Evelyn White, 44, of Memphis, died Monday at Methodist University Hospital. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at N.J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home with burial in New Park cemetery. She leaves a daughter, Marquitis Brown; two sons, Latarius Sawyer and Elton Sawyer, and her parents, Hattie and Nathaniel Conway, all of Memphis; two sisters, Louida Griffin of Bartlett and Mable Tate of Memphis; a brother, Nathaniel Conway Jr. of Memphis, and five grandchildren.

George Edward Wilson Jr., 51, of Memphis, died Monday at AmeriCare Health Care Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at M.J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home with burial in New Park cemetery. He was a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Mary and Charles Green of Memphis; four sisters, Charlene Green-Price, Lillian Green and Linda Harris, all of Memphis, and Rochelle Green-Turner of Jacksonville, Fla., and two brothers, Howard Wilson and Charles E. Green, both of Memphis.

Thomas E. Wilson, 76, of Fulton, Miss., formerly of Memphis, retired director of emergency services for the City of Memphis, died Tuesday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Broadway Baptist Church with burial in Memorial Park. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. He was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church and Gideons International. Mr. Wilson, the husband of Betty Wilson, also leaves two daughters, Vicki Shipley of Munford and Mindy Rutherford of Rolling Fork, Miss.; a son, Thomas E. Wilson Jr. of Southaven; a brother, James Wilson of Memphis, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Gideons International.

Rhoades of Gulfport, Miss., Sharron L. Brent of Memphis, Martha Paul of Ohio and Carol Rose of Japan; five brothers, William O. Beddard of Miami, Michael T. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Munford Funeral Home with burial in Hood cemetery in Warren. He played baseball for Munford Dixie Youth. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin. Mr. Pike, the widower of Pamela Loines Pike, leaves a daughter, Nancy Pike; a son, Will Pike, and his parents, LaMeryl and Bill Pike, all of Dyersburg; two sisters, Lisa Willems of Colorado Springs and Teresa Heathcott of Dyersburg, and a brother, Joe Pike of Vonore.
