Stanton -- Shirley Jean Lee Claybon, 71, teacher's assistant, died Tuesday at her home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rawls Funeral Home in Brownsville has charge. Mrs. Claybon, the wife of John Claybon, also leaves a daughter, Phyllis Clark of Stanton; seven sisters, Yvonne Dotson and Bessie Dotson, both of Memphis, Kay F. Warr, Betty A. Lee and Connie Lee, all of Stanton, Beverly Dickerson of Brownsville and Mary Lee of Detroit; five brothers, Marvin Lee and Richard Lee, both of Stanton, and Raymond Lee, James Lee and Charles Lee, all of Memphis, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Whiteville -- Martha Lucille Cox, 57, homemaker, died Thursday at her home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar with burial in Bolivar Memorial cemetery. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Mrs. Cox, the wife of David Cox for 40 years, also leaves a son, Steve Cox of Whiteville, and two grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Norma F. Austin, 83, of West Point, Miss., formerly of Memphis, died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus, Miss. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Zion cemetery in Obion County, Tenn. Family Funeral Care has charge. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church, Senior Saints and Frayser-Raleigh Senior Citizens Center, where she was director of the drama theater group. Mrs. Austin, the widow of Malcolm R. Austin, leaves a daughter, Mona Given of West Point; two sisters, Faye Chesser of Blytheville, Ark., and Nellie Murphy of Riverdale, Md., two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mattie Mae Barker, 65, of Memphis, retired nursing assistant for Shelby County Health Care Center, died Thursday at her home. Services will be at noon Monday at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church on U.S. 64 with burial in Galilee Memorial Gardens. Jefferson Mortuary in Millington has charge. She leaves three daughters, Sandra Taylor of Orange County, Calif., and Theresa Tatum and Jontina Mitchell, both of Memphis; a son, Morris Barker of Memphis; three sisters, Mildred Cross of Bartlett, and Mary Brown and Bernice Tolbert, both of Memphis; a brother, Thomas Cooper of Bartlett, and 11 grandchildren.

Virginia Jeanne 'Poppie' Campbell, 77, of Cordova, homemaker, died Thursday at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Tennessee Veterans cemetery. Mrs. Campbell, the wife of William Campbell, also leaves a daughter, Debbie Chriswell of Cordova; a son, Bill Campbell, and two brothers, Henry Haarala and James Haarala, all of Minneapolis, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Carline E. Dumas, 96, of Cordova, retired bank teller, died Thursday at Appling Wood Health Care Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McPeters Funeral Home in Corinth, Miss., with burial in Forrest Memorial Park there. She was a member of Corinth First Baptist Church, attended Bartlett Hills Baptist Church, former president of Corinth BPW Club and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Dumas, the widow of Boyce Dumas, leaves a son, Wallis Dumas of Cordova; a brother, George Moore of Fulton, Ky., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Norveen Echols, 64, of Memphis, retired from ETW Trucking Co., died Wednesday at Delta Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at M.J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home with burial in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He leaves a daughter, Lashonda F. Echols; a son, Dwayne Echols; three stepdaughters, Shirley Wilchie, Madelyn Clayton and Norvella Young, and a stepson, Johnnie Clayton, all of Memphis; two sisters, Beatrice Echols of New York and Clara Wilson of Memphis, and a brother, Cecil Echols of Wilkinsville, Tenn.

Al H. Gabel, 74, of Memphis, retired manager for J.C Penney after 43 years, died May 20 at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. He was a Korean War Army veteran, and member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and American Legion. Mr. Gabel, the widower of Laurel Gabel, leaves four daughters, Cheryl Linski of Bartlett, Carla Raney of Libertyville, Ill., Cindy Gabel of Memphis and Caryn Lerna of Cordova; a son, Douglas Gabel of East Amherst, N.Y.; a brother, Dale Gabel of Sioux Falls, S.D., nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
