Samuel Earl Muse

Samuel Earl Muse, 66, of Fayetteville, found eternal peace on Monday, October 6, 2008. Son of the late Samuel Horace and Ophelia Katherine Koonce Muse, he was born in Milan, TN on November 6, 1941. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Eugene Muse. Sammy is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Wilma Dooley Muse, his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Muse and Bob Chappin, grandson, Samuel David and granddaughter Katherine Anne of Murfreesboro, TN, his sister, Madolyn Hamlett of Pulaski, TN mother-in-law Evelyn Dooley of Fayetteville, TN nephews Mike Hamlett of Creskill, NJ, Mark Hamlett of Pulaski, TN niece Melissa Dixon of Locust, NC, aunt Ruth Nugent of Calaway, FL, and several great nieces, nephews and cousins, also special friends Winston and Carolyn Brooks and family, and Charlie and Marie Swearingen.

Sammy was a dedicated husband, loving father and proud grandfather. He spent decades as an avid UT football fan. He served his community and state as a Lions Club Member beginning in 1988. As a member, he served as President of the Fayetteville Lions Club, Past District Governor of 12-S, Leo Chairman, and member of the Middle Tennessee Lions Sight Service. He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge. He graduated from Fayetteville Central High School in 1960 and was retired from Sherwin Williams. He was a member of Fayetteville Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30am at the Fayetteville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Dr. Calvin Todd, Winston Brooks and Frank Young officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery with Higgins Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers are David Harrison, B.J. Blankenship, Phil Brooks, Chris Phillips, Don Smith, Billy Askins, Mark Hamlett, Jack Hoffman and Gene Staats. Honorary pallbearers include member of the Fayetteville Lions Club, District 12-S Lions, Frank Young, Don Combs, James Morgan Toon, Jim Neale, Paul Mathis, Dean Harshbarger, Winston Brooks, Ben Brooks and Dexter Sullivan.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request that donations be made to Middle Tennessee Lions Sight Services, 911 Westside Court, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.

Elsie B. Bush
2 November 1928 - 8 October 2008

Funeral services for Miss Margaret Catherine Jennings, age 100, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 11AM Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery. Miss Jennings passed away Sunday February 15th at Lincoln Medical Center.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Claude C. and Belle Pickett Jennings. Miss Jennings was a retired school teacher and a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include two nieces Charlotte Forrester of Fayetteville and Betty Lou Talley of Marshall County, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers Henry and Albin Jennings.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening 5-8pm at Higgins Funeral Home.

Pauline (Towry) Swindell
22 March 1920 - 21 October 2008

Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline (Towry) Swindell, age 88, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 2PM Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. David Sain officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Swindell passed away Monday October 20, 2008 in Lincoln Skill Care Center.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late James Isom and Maude Mae Hopkins Towry. Mrs. Swindell was a former employee of Serbin and Jonathan Logan. She was a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross for many years and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband James Swindell of Fayetteville, son Larry Swindell and wife Judy of Athens, AL, granddaughter Missy King and husband Jim of Madison, AL, grandson Vern Swindell of Mobile, AL, and great grandchildren Cason and Isabella King.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Louise (Marshall) Patterson
9 March 1930 - 22 January 2009

Funeral services for Mrs. Louise (Marshall) Patterson, age 78, of Taft will be conducted at 2PM Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Bennett and Rev. Micky Buford officiating. Burial will follow in Blanche cemetery beside her husband Buster Patterson. Mrs. Patterson died Thursday January 22nd in Lincoln Skilled Care Center.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Richard Quentin and Mary Lucille Carter Marshall. She was a retired lunch room manager for Madison Crossroads Schools and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Cindy Ballew, Sherry Spray, David and Ricky Patterson all of Fayetteville, two sisters Mary B. Whitt of Athens, AL and Josephine Smith of Scottsboro, AL, one brother Clifford (Tinker) Marshall of Fayetteville and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her son Richard Larry Patterson.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 5-8pm at Higgins Funeral Home.

Mildred Evins Russell
Died Jan. 28, 2009

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Evins Russell, age 99, of Fayetteville, formerly of Petersburg will be conducted at 1:00PM Friday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Don Hudson and Bro. Richard Waggoner officiating. Burial will follow in Russell cemetery beside her husband George W. Russell who died in 1939. Mrs. Russell passed away Wednesday January 28th at Donalson Care Center.

She was born in Fosterville, TN. and was the daughter of the late Fred and Margaret “Maggie” Bingham Evins. Mrs. Russell was a bookkeeper for Butler Bros. Furniture in Lewisburg for 50 years, was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Russell was poet laureatte of Lincoln County.

Survivors include her daughter Fredna Ellis and husband Jimmy of Fayetteville, four granddaughters, Wyanne King and husband Dwight of Fayetteville, Melodie Dye and husband Britt of Fayetteville, Jamie Cain and husband John of Fayetteville and Misty Russell Nelson of North Carolina, one grandson Charles Russell of Murfreesboro, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son George E. Russell who died in 1994.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 10am-1PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Lincoln County Library.

Lillian Sue (Carter) Hawkins
7 December 1925 - 4 May 2009

Graveside services for Mrs. Lillian Sue (Carter) Hawkins, age 83, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2PM at Stewarts cemetery with Bro. Richard Rogers officiating. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of services. Mrs. Hawkins passed away Monday night May 4th at Lincoln Skill Care. She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Walter and Lillie Bell Vaughn Carter. She was a former employee of Blue Ridge Manufacturing and a member of the Liberty Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son Terry Henderson and wife Shirley of Remlap, AL. She was preceded in death by two brothers Knox and Mack Carter. There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to services.

Maggie Mae (Hobbs) Mitchell
25 July 1930 - 18 July 2009

Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Mae (Hobbs) Mitchell, age 78, of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 1PM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. James Medley officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens beside her husband William Lee Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell passed away Saturday July 18th at her residence.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late George Wesley (Buddy) and Flossie Mae Bell Hobbs. Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include four sons Lee Mitchell and wife Juanita of Montgomery, AL, Billy Mitchell and wife Anita of Lewisburg, Danny Mitchell and wife Cheryl of Petersburg, and Ricky Mitchell and wife Amanda of Madison County, AL, one daughter Patricia Carlisle and husband Ronnie of Fayetteville, three sisters, Violet McKin of Fayetteville, Emma McKin of Petersburg and Louise Poarch of Lewisburg, one brother Carl Hobbs of Fayetteville, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Jimmy Posey

Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Posey, age 73, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 10 AM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home. Mr. Posey passed away Thursday evening at Huntsville Hospital.

A son of the late James Emry and Betty Ann Ashby Posey, he was a native of Lincoln County, grew up in Kelso, owned Uncle Bill’s TV Sales and Service in Sacramento, CA was a bass player and lead singer of a popular band that traveled the West Coast, and was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rio Linda, CA.

Survivors include his wife Geneva Marie Posey, children Bob Posey and wife Francie of Elverta, CA, Brenda Stats of Stephenville, TX, James Broadley of Rochester, IN, Rebecca Kay Posey Arias and husband David of Azusa, CA, Anthony Ray Posey of Fayetteville, TN David Branscome and wife April of Niceville, FL, and Vonna Ann Hart of Pauline, SC, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sisters AllaMae Smith of Tullahoma, TN and Bessie Humphrey of Fayetteville, TN and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Sunday evening at Higgins Funeral Home.

Ruby Sutton
31 March 1934 - 14 October 2009

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Sutton, age 75, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 11 AM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Lee Leslie officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View cemetery. Mrs. Sutton passed away Wednesday evening, October 14, at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.

A daughter of the late James Holland and Myrtle McDonald Sutton, she was a native of Lincoln County, a licensed cosmetologist and instructor, and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter Doris Bailey and husband Jerry of Fayetteville, son Kevin Dixon and wife Cindy of Lynchburg, grandchildren Cartia Emmons of Fayetteville, Rasheta Flemmings and husband Brandon of Fayetteville, Porsche Craft of Memphis, Steven Holt of Lynchburg, and Julias Dixon of Lynchburg, great-grandchild Kicen Flemmings, sister Lettie Buchanan.

Visitation with the family will be from 10-11AM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home.

Wilson "Butch" Corder
18 August 1943 - 7 December 2009

Funeral services for Mr. Wilson “Butch” Corder, age 66 of Kelso will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Stewarts Creek cemetery. Mr. Corder passed away Monday December 7th in Lincoln Medical Center.

He was a native of Lincoln County and was the son of the late William Corder and Dorothy Williamson Corder who survives. Mr. Corder served in the National Guard, was owner and operator of Crossroads Automotive and a member of the Corders Crossroad Church of Christ.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Nancy Tucker Corder of Kelso, sister-in-law Lucy Snoddy of Auburn, AL., two nephews Wayne Snoddy of Humble, TX and Edward Snoddy of Auburn, AL, and two special friends David and Debbie Keith.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to the Lincoln County Cancer Society.

Hazel Edwards

Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Edwards, age 82, of Flintville will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Bolan officiating. Burial will follow in Flintville cemetery. Mrs. Edwards passed away Sunday December 20, 2009 at her residence.

A daughter of the late Henry and Clara Hudson Sharp, she was a native of Plevna, AL, retired from Serbin Manufacturing, and member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons Jimmy Edwards and wife Karen of Nashville, Rayford Edwards and wife Connie of Birchwood, and Jackie Edwards and wife Leslie of Hazel Green, daughters Betty Coats of Meridianville and Janie Bradley and husband Tommy of Elora, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Monday evening at Higgins Funeral Home.

Those serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters: Wes, Brad, and Eric Edwards, Stacey Coats, and Jared Bradley. Honorary pallbearers are Amanda Nelson and Kim Deyton.
