Martha Ruth (Baker) Smith
25 September 1919 - 11 March 2010

Funeral services for Martha Ruth (Baker) Smith, age 90, of Fayetteville will be conducted

At 3:30pm Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Don Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Wrights cemetery beside her husband Everett Smith who died in 1971. Mrs. Smith passed away Thursday afternoon in Lincoln Medical Center.

She was a native of Giles County and the daughter of the late Ollie and Katie Coggin Baker. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of Serbin Fashions, a homemaker and a member of the Park City Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter Barbara Jean Pitts, daughter-in-law Fay Smith, grandsons Howard (Tracie) Pitts and Troy Joe Smith, granddaughter Tori (Chad) Tipps, Teresa Davis Smith, great grandson Logan Smith and Landen Smith, great granddaughters Heather Pitts, Halie Pitts and Grasen Tipps, loving friends Bill and Peggy Carter and many other family members and friends. Pallbearers will be Hilton Johnson, Gary Smith, Chad Tipps, Jose’ Roman, Bill Carter, Coble Coggin, Honorary Pallbearers Landen and Logan Smith.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Joe Maurice Smith who passed away in 2002.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 4-7PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Joe Maurice Smith Scholarship Fund for the Lincoln County Lady Softball Team.

Avis (George) Sawyers
6 August 1914 - 26 March 2010

Funeral services for Mrs. Avis (George) Sawyers, age 95, of the Howell Community will be conducted at 11am Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Don Hudson and Bro. Wayne Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Unity cemetery beside her husband Robert Leo Sawyers who passed away in 1987. Mrs. Sawyers passed away Friday morning in Donalson Care Center.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Newman and Lula Belle Woods George. Mrs. Sawyers was a former inspector for Butte Knitt, was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son Robert Ray Sawyers and wife Suzanne of the Howell Community, granddaughter Tonya Helums and husband Justin and children Kyle and Kaitlyn of Taft, grandson Robert Sawyers and Brenda and children, Jeremy, Courtney Jackson and Harmony and Khloe of the Howell community, brother Russell George of Fayetteville and special caregivers Brad Smith, Kelsey Shutt, Terri Taylor and Donna Giovinazzo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Lewis and Jesse George and a sister Eunice Daniel.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday night 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Dick Allen Templeton

Funeral services for Mr. Dick Allen Templeton, Jr., age 87, of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home with minister Eric Reynolds, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. Templeton died Friday, April 2, 2010, at NHC in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Annie Glenn Templeton.

He was a native of Lincoln County, Tennessee and was the son of the late Dick Allen Templeton, Sr. and Annie Lou Cole. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wiley Cole Templeton; and his sister, Martha Holt Huffer.

Mr. Templeton graduated from Morgan Prep School in Petersburg in 1942. He worked with Templeton Pontiac Company until 1956. He then began a lifetime career in insurance sales totaling 45 years with Interstate Life and Accident, Gulf Life, Life and Casualty, and American General. He was a member of Washington Street church of Christ, Andrew Jackson Fraternal Lodge #68, Senior Neighbors, Interstate Seniors, Lincoln County Historical Society. He reached a 13-gallon blood donation and is listed on the Red Cross Hall of Fame Wall.

Survivors include daughter Martha Ann Templeton Hodum of Germantown; son Richard Templeton of Murfreesboro; daughter Glenda Bryan of Cleveland; grandchildren Mary Glenn (Glenn) Beck of Budapest, Hungary, Rachel Hodum of Germantown, Andy Hodum of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Katie-Lynn (Ben) Bohannon of Murfreesboro, Sara Beth Templeton (Trey Winburn fiancé) of Murfreesboro, Dustin Bryan of Murfreesboro, Austin and Annie Bryan, both of Cleveland; and three great-grandchildren, Parker and Lindsay Beck of Budapest, Hungary, and Hanna-Grace Bohannon of Murfreesboro.

Visitation with the family will be from two until time of service Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home.

Annie Jean (Mitchell) Stubblefield
1 July 1929 - 14 April 2010

Funeral service for Mrs. Annie Jean (Mitchell) Stubblefield, age 84, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Thursday at 1 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Clark and Rev. Elizabeth Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery beside her husband Joe Stubblefield. Mrs. Stubblefield passed away Wednesday at Donaldson Care Center.

Mrs. Stubblefield was the daughter of the late Homer and Emma Thompson Mitchell, a native of Lincoln County, a retired nurse, and member of the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter Patsy Bauer of Huntland, son Richard Stubblefield of Denver Co., four grandchildren Rick Stubblefield, Bill Stubblefield, Monte Higgs and Tori Gentry, two great- grandchildren Landon Stubblefield and Cadence Stubblefield.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday from noon until time of service at 1 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Fayetteville Lincoln Co. Humane Society.

Fred Wilson Walker
15 December 1930 - 15 April 2010

Funeral services for Fred Wilson Walker, age 79, of Flintville will be conducted Sunday at 2PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Buddy Payne and Grant Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Mr. Walker passed away Thursday April 15th at Lincoln Medical Center.

He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Robert Lee and Nannie Pearl Hall Walker. Mr. Walker was a plumber, welder, retired from Amana Refrigeration and a member of the Holiness Church of Jesus.

Survivors include his wife Kathleen Kimbrough Walker of Flintville, two daughters JoAnn Clark of Fayetteville and Tammy McCormick of Flintville one son Fred A. Walker of Flintville, grandchildren Christy Davis of Flintville, Jill Clark of Fayetteville, Jamie McCormick, Grant Walker and Heath Walker all of Flintville, four great-grandchildren, sisters Jean Garrett, Bobbie Lasater, Billie Anderson and Linda Marrs all of Flintville. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Brandy McCormick, brother Douglas Walker and sister Jewel Arnold.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday evening 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Middle Tennessee, 2120 Crestmoor Rd, Nashville, TN 37215-2613.

Martha Jean (Daves) Gowan
30 September 1928 - 30 April 2010

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Jean (Daves) Gowan, age 81, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Smith and Rev. Richard Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Gowan passed away Friday night at her residence.

A daughter of the late John Carl and Nell Turney Daves, she was a native of Lincoln County, a member of the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years Billy Joe Gowan, daughter Gloria Hall and husband Bobby, granddaughter Kim McWhirter and husband Steve, and great-granddaughters Katie and Jessica McWhirter, all of Fayetteville.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Monday evening at Higgins Funeral Home.

Odell (Koonce) Thompson
6 April 1926 - 13 May 2010

Funeral services for Mrs. Odell (Koonce) Thompson, age 84, of Tullahoma formerly of Fayetteville will be conducted Sunday at 2PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery in Fayetteville.. Mrs. Thompson passed away Thursday at St. Thomas Hospital.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late James Polk and Donnie Hearlston Koonce. Mrs. Thompson was retired from Serbin Fashions and was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include a brother Jerry Koonce and wife Sharon of Normandy, TN, and a sister Marie Barnes of Tullahoma, eight nephews and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by sisters Evelene Stockstill and Lois Koonce, brothers James Koonce, Vernon (Bud) Koonce and Robert Koonce and a brother-in-law R. L. Barnes.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday 4-7PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Edward (Ed) P. Ellis
29 July 1997 - 14 May 2010

Funeral service for Master Edward (Ed) P. Ellis age 12, of Petersburg will be conducted at 2 PM Monday at Fayetteville First Baptist Church with Rev. Van Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Orchard cemetery. Master Ellis passed away Friday evening at Lincoln Medical Center.

He was a native of Lincoln County, and the son of Tim and Sonya Ellis of Petersburg, attended Fayetteville Intermediate School, and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his parents include brother William Hardy Ellis, grandparents Harland and Betty Smith, grandmother Judy Ellis, aunt Lisa Smith, uncle and aunt Keith and Kim Ellis, and cousins Jonathan and Justin Ellis. He was preceded in death by grandfather Maurice Ellis.

Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 PM Sunday at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Keith McGee, Craig Mashburn, Evan Seals, Jeff Stovall, Ryan Towry, and Mike Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Edward Perry Ellis Scholarship Fund at First National Bank in Fayetteville.

Higgins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hattie Olivia (Abbott) Wilson
21 June 1923 - 17 June 2010

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Olivia (Abbott) Wilson, age 86 of Fayetteville will be conducted Saturday morning at 10AM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens beside her husband Robert “Bobby” Edward Wilson who died in 1988. Mrs. Wilson passed away Thursday morning June 17th in Lincoln Medical Center.

She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Beulah Lewter Abbott. Mrs. Wilson was a former teacher’s aide, homemaker and a member of the Harms Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Wilson and wife Janine, and Clayton Wilson and wife Gayla all of Fayetteville, grandchildren Courtney Long, Rebecca Wilson, Clay Wilson and wife Becky, Cody Wilson and Catie Wilson all of Fayetteville, great-grandchildren Kayley and Carlan Long, step great-grandchild Brianna Faulkner and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by sister Mildred Burton and brothers Clyde and Clayton Abbott.

Visitation with the family will be Friday 4-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Harms Methodist Church, c/o Belinda Davis, 103 Able Rd, Fayetteville, TN 37334
