Funeral services for Mr. Ernest Ray Hummel, 90, of Allons, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2000, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. James Bilbrey officiating. Burial was in the Fellowship cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hummel, a farmer, died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital. Born October 9, 1909, in Clay County, he was the son of the late Elbert and Mattie Lee (Sidwell) Hummel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vella Loriene (Wright) Hummel; a son, Donnie Ranzel Hummel; three brothers, Willie Hummel, Eddie Hummel, and Johnnie Hummel; and a sister, Ada Morrow.
He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Harvey, Monroe, Yvonne Smith, Anderson, IN, and Brenda Huffer, Allons; two sons, Hollis Hummel and Melvin Hummel, both of Allons; two sisters, Lillie Morrow, Chesterfield, IN, and Maggie Morrow, Springfield; a half brother, Willie Ray Hummel, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Pallbearers were Sherman Harvey, Willie Hummel, Royce Hummel, Jimmy Daniels, Jeff Hummel, and Kenny Harvey.
Bessie Adkisson
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Shirley Adkisson, 87, of Cleveland, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Gary Thacker officiating. Burial was in the Mayland cemetery in Cumberland County with Horner Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Adkisson died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Royal Care Nursing Home in Cleveland. She and her husband were owners and operators of the former KOA Campgrounds in Monterey. She was a member of the Cookeville senior citizens, active in the center's art classes for many years, and a member of the Big Springs Baptist Church in Cleveland.
Born January 12, 1914, in Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Laura (Tabor) Whited. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Adkisson, a daughter, Lydia June Riddle; and two sons, James Hale Russell and John William Ross Smiddie.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Judy Adkisson, Cleveland, and David "Buck" and Beryl Adkisson, Mobile, AL; a step-son and his wife, David and Brenda Adkisson, Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Laura Wayne Murphy, Naples, FL; a step-daughter, Margaret Joyce Bray, Pensacola,FL; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Adkisson's family and friends served as pallbearers.
Thurston B. Jones
Funeral services for Mr. Thurston B. Jones, 77, of Cookeville, were conducted at 4 p.m. May 7, 2001, from Shady Grove Church with Bro. Dailey McCowan officiating. Burial was in the Shady Grove cemetery with Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home of Cookeville in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Jones died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Standing Stone Health Care Center in Monterey. He was a farmer and a Navy veteran of WWII.
Born January 5, 1924, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Bluford F. and Polly (Stamps) Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton A. Jones.
Survivors include a sister, Reva Fixsal, Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Harley L. Jones, Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews.
Longia Olen "Curly" Taylor
Funeral services for Mr. Longia Olen "Curly' Taylor, 74, of Indianapolis, IN, and formerly of Hilham, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, from the chapel of G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis, IN. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery at Glenns Valley, Greenwood, IN, with G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Taylor died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home. He was a worker in the Pattern Shop at Chrysler Foundry for 30 years, a U.S Navy veteran of WWII, and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war.
Born January 30, 1927, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Clure and Annie B. (Poston) Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Wynell (Holt) Taylor, Indianapolis, IN; four sons, Dan Taylor, Greenwood,IN, Bruce Taylor, Indianapolis, IN, Lonnie Ray Taylor, Castalian Springs, and Bill Shinkle Taylor, Indianapolis, IN; a sister, Pearl Pennington, Cookeville; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Ray Padgett
Funeral services for Mr. Ray Padgett, 75, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Terry McCloud and Rev. Clayton Padgett officiating. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Padgett died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a used car dealer, a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, and affiliated with the Assembly of God.
Born December 26, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Millard and Ada (Williams) Padgett.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Padgett, Livingston; three sons, Hoyt Padgett and Ray Padgett, both of Livingston, and David Padgett, Dayton, OH; a daughter, Sharon Arabi, Dayton, OH; two step-daughters, Ilene Day, Livingston, and Irene Coffman, Monterey; a brother, Wilbur Padgett, McMinnville; a sister, Avia Jones, Cookeville; three grandchildren, Saria Arabi, Holly Kirk, and Katie Hicks; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Key, Larry Key, Frankie Jones, Randy Coffman, Lewis Davidson, and Jeff Coffman.
Ronald Ivan McKinnis Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Ronald Ivan McKinnis Sr., 68, of Cookeville, were conducted at 1 p.m Sunday, May 6, 2001, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville with Bro. John Whitson officiating. Burial, with full military honors, was in the John Young cemetery in Jackson County with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McKinnis died Friday, May 4, 2001, at V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was retired from McKinnis Lawn Care, served in the Navy and Army and fought in the Korean conflict.
Born April 2, 1933, in Clayton, MO, he was the son of Norman Ivan McKinnis and the late Grace Elizabeth (Barr) McKinnis. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by step-parents, Albert and Pearl Holden; and a step-sister, Emery Dawn Holden.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Dorothy Ann Lois (Haney) McKinnis, Cookeville; four sons, Ron McKinnis Jr. and Bradford Allen McKinnis, both of Cookeville, and Bruce Franklin McKinnis and Terry Lance McKinnis, both of Rickman; four sister-in-laws and spouses, Ernest and Darlene Williams and Judy Long, all of Jackson County, Bobby Joe and Faye Hammock, Baxter, and Clifford and Shirley Hensley, Cookeville; four brother-in-laws and spouses, Aaron Haney, Herbert and Samatha Haney, Kenneth and Ruby Haney, and Marshall Haney and special friend, Sue Mabe, all of Jackson County; five grandchildren, Shane McKinnis, Alecia McKinnis, Kimberly McKinnis, Chasity Grasty, and Elijah Grasty; four great grandchildren, Isonia McKinnis, Preston Grasty, Justice Grasty and Allinuah Jade Grasty; and three step-grandchildren, Angie Bohannon, Scarlett Roberts, and Bill Roberts. Effie Mae Key
Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Mae Key, 94, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, from Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. A.J. Looper and Rev. Nolan Cantrell officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Rickman with the Rickman Chapel of Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Key died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Standing Stone Health Care Center in Monterey. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.
Born September 10, 1906, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late John and Fannie (Parrigan) Webb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Key; a son, John Key; a sister, Mattie Eldridge; and two brothers, Clyde Webb and Washington Webb.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Gwen Key and David and Ruby Key, all of the Pleasant Ridge Community; a brother, Jim Webb, Pleasant Ridge Community; and two sisters, Opal Webb, Monterey, and Ona Wilson, Cedar Chapel Community; and six great-great grandchildren.
Horace O. Duke
Funeral services for Mr. Horace O. Duke, 70, of Atwater, OH, and formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Duke officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Duke died May 1, 2001, at Hospice Care Center in Copley Township, OH. He was a steel worker in the auto industry, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, first in Airborne Division and later in the Special Forces, Green Beret, and a member of the Atwater Baptist Church.
Born October 10, 1930, in Livingston, he was the son of the late Richard and Ruth (Matthews) Duke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Duke.
Survivors include a son, Gary Duke, Akron, OH; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Dave McBee, Arkon, OH; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Barbara Duke, Detroit, MI; five sisters and three brother-in-laws, Hillis Duke and Gladys and Bill Langford, all of Cookeville, Jean Williams, Detroit, MI, Blanch and Junior Fox, Boaz, AL, and Janice and Bob Woosley, Livingston; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Russell Maynord, Reed Maynord, Leon Flatt, Earl Carr, Glenn Gore, and Bill Thomas.
George Jones
Funeral service for Mr. George Jones, 80, of Lebanon, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, from the chapel of Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon with Eld. Hilman Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Smyrna cemetery in Pickett County with Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Jones died Thursday, May 2, 2001, at Cedars Health Care. He was a retired saw mill worker and of the Baptist faith.
Born December 17, 1920, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Eli and Nettie (Reagan) Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary White; and three brothers, Royce Jones, James Jones, and E.B. Jones.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Eld. Edgar Leon White, Lebanon; a nephew, Randall "Rudy" White, Lebanon; a great niece, Leah Elizabeth White, Lebanon; and a great nephew, Lee Elliott White, Lebanon.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Thomas Edward Thompson
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Edward Thompson, 63, of Clinton Township, MI, and formerly of Overton County, were conducted Saturday, August 19, 2000, from the chapel of Beulah Funeral Home in Warren, MI. Burial was in the Holly Springs cemetery in Livingston with Beulah Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Thompson died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at his home.
Born May, 1937 in Overton County, he was the son of the late Lindsay and Modena Farmer Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roscoe Thompson. He was of the Protestant faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include five brothers, Don Thompson, George Thompson, James Thompson, and Byrd Thompson, all of Michigan, and Eugene Thompson, Kentucky; and four sisters, Rose McDonald, Livingston, Reba Thompson, East Pointe, MI, Barbara Bucceri, Clinton Township, MI, and Paulette Dumford, Warren, MI.
Nolan Norrod

Mr. Norrod died Saturday, August 19, 2000, at Standing Stone Health Care Center in Monterey.
Born December 25, 1938, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Donald and Edna Morgan Norrod. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marlyn Norrod. He attended the Hanging Limb Baptist Church and was a member of the Livingston Pacesetters.
Survivors include an uncle, Barton Norrod, Overton County; and several cousins.
Talmadge "Dock" Key

Mr. Key, a retired coal miner, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.
Born January 8, 1926, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Bloom and Cora France Key. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Hassler, Deane Cooke, and Leare Croft; and a brother, Homer Key.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Garrett Key, Crawford; three daughters, Linda Ledbetter, Livingston, Loretta Rash, Indianapolis, IN, and Pamela Phillips, Monterey, and two sons-in-law; three sons, Merle Key and Marshall Key, both of the Vines Ridge Community, and Bryan Key, Livingston, and two daughters-in-law; a sister, Pauline Sparks of Monterey; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
D.C. Carmack

He was retired from Frigidaire and was a member of the Franklin Street Baptist Church, West Carrollton Lodge #737 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and Antioch Shrine. He was preceded in death by his parents Rhesa and Allie (Hardy) Carmack; four brothers, Ernest Carmack, Claude Carmack, A.B. Carmack, and Charles Carmack; and a sister, Zella Mae Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta Carmack, Miamisburg; a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Debbie Carmack, Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Michael Baxley of Charlotte, NC, and Jon Carmack of Hickory, NC; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Doris Ferrill

Mrs. Ferrill died Friday, March 9, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in LaFollette. She was a housewife and a member of Grace Baptist Church of Alpine.
Born April 20, 1907, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Rachel (Ledbetter) Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Benton Ferrill. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Scott, LaFollette, and Genevieve Dickinson, Valley Center, CA; a sister, Vesta Brown, Jackson; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
