Funeral services for Mrs. Elphia Edith Brown, 79, of Hilham, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2002, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina with Art Fannin officiating. Burial was in McDonald cemetery with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Feb. 27 at her home. She was a housewife and a member of Hilham Church of Christ.
Born March 20, 1922, in Hilham, she was the daughter of the late Garland M. Holt Jr. and Maggie Rich.
Survivors include her husband, Houston Brown, Hilham; a son, Timmy Carson Brown, Hilham; three brothers, Carson Holt, Indianapolis, IN, Garland Holt, Celina, and Charles Holt, Warner Robbins, GA; five sisters, Ruth Fannin and Wynell Taylor, both of Indianapolis, Lucille Brown and Delma Kay Day, both of Hilham, and Gelna Holkern, Cookeville; and three grandchildren.
Marvin Duel Pennington
Funeral services for Mr. Marvin Duel Pennington, 88, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Coil and Bro. Glenn Goggins officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pennington died Friday, March 1 at his home. He was a service station/grocery store operator since 1946 and a member of the Livingston Church of Christ.
Born March 27, 1913, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Sam David and Della (Brown) Pennington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; four sisters; and a granddaughter, Mickey Lynn Boyce.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Pennington, Livingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy D. and Elaine Pennington, Livingston; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Jack Pigg, Livingston; a brother, S.D. Pennington, Livingston; two sisters, Minnine Mae Buck and Christine Lee, both of Livingston; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Willie Qualls, William H. McCormick, J.C. Ferrill, William C. Carmack, Wyman Taylor, and Riley Johnson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Earl Carwile, David Dickerson, and Jack Pigg.
Roger Lee Wright
Funeral services for Mr. Roger Lee Wright, 55, of Cookeville, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Perry Clayton officiating. Burial was in Beaty cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Wright died Tuesday, Feb. 26 at V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a construction worker in home building, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and of the Methodist faith.
Born April 26, 1946, in Rocky Mount, VA, he was the son of Georgie Mozelle (Sigmond) Wright of Virginia and the late John Wright. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Phillip Lee Wright.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include four sons, Roger Lee Wright II, Virginia, Jason Isaac Wright, Misawa, Japan, Brandyn Lee Wright, Cookeville, and Jonathan L. Wright, Monroe; a brother, Johnny Wright, Virginia; and three grandchildren, Colby Dale Wright, Roger Lee Wright III, and Tiffany Wright.
Pallbearers were Roger Riley, Nick Stanage, Darrick Garrett, Jason Hollaway, Rocky Carr, Jamin Carr, Josh McDaniel, and Eddie McDaniel.
Christena Whittaker
Funeral services for Mrs. Christena Whittaker, 83, of Monterey, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Mar. 1, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Donald Whittaker officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Rickman with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Whittaker died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey.
Born January 14, 1919, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Doc and Cassie (Neely) Looper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Whittaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ellis, Monterey; a son, Terry Whittaker, Ooltewah; two sisters, Berta Wilson and Anna Tinch, both of Rickman; four brothers, Roscoe Looper and Ray Looper, both of Rickman; Arlie Looper, Anderson, IN, and Enloe Looper, Alturas, CA; and a granddaughter, Melana Morgan, East Ridge.
Virginia Ruth Rose
Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Ruth Rose, 73, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, from Netherland Church of Christ with Bro. Mark Loftis officiating. Burial was in Netherland cemetery with Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home of Cookeville in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Rose died Thursday, Feb. 28 at Bethesda Health Care in Cookeville. She was a homemaker and a member of Netherland Church of Christ.
Born December 24, 1928, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Poindexter) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Rose; a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose; and a brother, Frank Smith.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Randy Lee, Rickman; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gaius and Netta Rose, Roger and Barbara Rose, and Robert Rose, all of Rickman; a sister, Reba Norrod, Hermitage; four grandchildren, Kelly Rose, Ginnie Jackson, Todd Rose, and Jacob Lee; and two great grandchildren, Lance Jackson and Will Jackson.
Mose Henry Nicholas
Funeral services for Mr. Mose Henry Nicholas, 88, of Byrdstown, and formerly of the Parker Community, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Tompkins officiating. Burial was in the Nicholas cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Nicholas died Sunday, Feb. 24 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a farmer.
Born September 1, 1913, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Louella (Craig) Nicholas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Matthew Nicholas, Lewis Nicholas, David Nicholas, Charlie Nicholas, and Earl Nicholas; and two sisters, Hallie South and Mattie D. Stone.
Survivors include a sister, Anna Pfoutz, Broxton, GA; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Pallbearers were Truman Amonett, Willie Nicholas, Hurlan Whittenburg, Roosevelt Nicholas, Amos Nicholas, and Randy Nicholas.
Charles Clinton Maynord
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Clinton Maynord, 73, of Frazor, MI, were conducted Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, from the chapel of Kaul Funeral Home in St. Claire Shores, MI. Kaul Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. He was retired from Consumer Powers of Merrysville, MI.
Born February 3, 1929, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Willard and Ora (Cole) Maynord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Armel Maynord, Archie Maynord, and Carson Maynord; and a sister, Lattie Cantrell.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Lawless, Michigan; one stepson, Michigan; two sisters, Ruby Jones, Walven, MI, and Kathleen Ramsey, Independence Community; two granddaughters and two step grandsons, all of Michigan.
Stella L. Moss
Funeral services for Miss Stella L. Moss, 57, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Bro. Dewey Glen Masters officiating. Burial was in Old Antioch cemetery in the Old Antioch Community of Jackson County with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Miss Moss died Friday, March 1 at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Born May 24, 1944, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Mozell (Crabtree) Moss. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Esco Moss; and two sisters, Edna Chaffin and Connie Hamlet.
Survivors include five brothers, Gurstle Moss, Algood, Birl Moss, Joe Moss, Glenn Moss, and Raymond Moss, all of Livingston; four sisters, Mearl Coffman, Carol Allen, and Sally Geesling, all of Hilham, and Mildred Hammock, Livingston; a special nephew, Billy Hamlet; and several nieces and nephews.
Avery Nathaniel Maxwell
Funeral services for Master Avery Nathaniel Maxwell, 5 months old, of Monterey, were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Master Maxwell died Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Livingston Regional Hospital.
Born October 1, 2001, he was the son of Lee and Heather (Roulette) Maxwell of Monterey. He was preceded in death by his mamaw and papaw, Lee and Marie Roulette; and great grandparents, Cordell and Ginger Dinkens and George Edgar "Groundhog" Maxwell.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include five brothers, Donathan Maxwell, Derrick Maxwell, Dyllan Maxwell, Dakota Maxwell, and Hadden Maxwell, all of Monterey; grandparents, Audrey and Charles Elrod, Carthage, Vicky and Donald Gore, Hilham, and Arlis and Mildred Maxwell, Monterey; a great grandmother, Clora Maxwell, Monterey; and aunts and uncles, Phillip and Denny Dalton, Algood, Jay and Barbara Maxwell, Michigan, Cassie Reeves, Carthage, and Ernest and Candice Maxwell, Monterey.
John Stanley Ledbetter
Funeral services for Mr. John Stanley Ledbetter, 83, of Indianapolis, IN, and formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, from the chapel of Harry Moore Funeral Home in Indianapolis with Rev. Carman Jones officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Fishers, IN, with Harry Moore Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ledbetter died Thursday, Feb. 28 at Miller Merry Manor Nursing Home in Indianapolis. He was a farmer.
Born September 22, 1918, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Overton and Mary Jane (Andrews) Ledbetter.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Ledbetter, Indianapolis; three daughters, Lavenia Ledbetter, Livingston, Shirley Burgess, Lawrenceburg, IN, and Mary Burns, Indianapolis; and a son, Garry Ledbetter, Indianapolis; a stepson, Lewis Shackleford, Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Delta (Winningham) Pritchard

Mrs. Pritchard, a homemaker and factory employee, died Sunday, October 15, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.
Born January 3, 1922, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late James David Winningham and Martha (Huckeby) Winningham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel; a step-son; six sisters and a brother.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Johnnie Bilbrey and Bonnie and Everett Reagan, all of Byrdstown; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry and Virginia Pritchard, Tony Pritchard and Doug Pritchard, all of Byrdstown; two step-sons, Larry and Lonnie Pritchard, both of Indiana; a sister, Dora Storie, Indiana; two brothers, Ernest Winningham and Boyd Winningham, both of Indiana; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Albert Roscoe Pierce

Mr. Pierce, a farmer, died Friday, October 20, 2000, at the Livingston Regional Hospital.
Born January 1, 1900, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late William K. and Elizabeth (Reeder) Pierce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (McGee) Pierce, and several brothers and sisters.
He was a member of the Star Point Church of Christ.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Richard W. Pierce, Roger Goolsby, Keith Bilbrey, Jim Cross, Jack Whittenburg, and Clifford Stephenson, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Guin Pierce, Woodrow Pierce, and B. Keith Pierce.
Edna Myers Smith

Mrs. Smith, a retired shirt factory employee, died Thursday, October 19, 2000, at the Livingston Regional Hospital.
Born September 13, 1913, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Sally (Smith) Myers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Smith; and two brothers, Luther Myers and Tracy Myers.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Morris Reid, Livingston; two brothers, Earl Myers, Livingston, and A.B. Myers, Santa Ana, CA; four sisters, Callie Melton, Livingston, Mary Barker, Sparta, Majorie Deck, Maryville, and Betty Ashburn, Cookeville; three grandchildren, Libby and Kenneth Allen and Tim Reid, all of Livingston; and six great grandchildren, Sarah Allen, T.L. Reid, Coby Reid, Katherine Reid, Kenny Allen, and Rusty Allen.
