Funeral services for Mrs. Versie D. Loftis 86, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Sharp and Rev. Edward Todd officiating. Burial was in Matthews cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Loftis died Friday, Oct. 4 at her home. She was a housewife and a member of Maxwell Chapel First Church of God.

Born January 31, 1916, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Troy and Leona (Gibbons) Bennett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jacky Loftis; a sister, Trula Brown Reid; and a grandson, Tim Loftis.

Survivors include her husband, Walton Loftis, Hilham; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Janice Loftis, Livingston; a daughter-in-law, Sue Matthews Loftis, Windle Community; a sister, Alta B. Farris, Bethpage; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Sherry Loftis, Regina and Dwayne Little, Randy and Penny Loftis, and Rene Adkins; and six great grandchildren, Madison Loftis, Colby Loftis, Nick Loftis, Ethan Loftis, Dalton Loftis, and Josh Brown.

Pallbearers were Jim Loftis, Randy Loftis, Anthony Coffman, David Coffman, Jim Farris, Mark Tullock, and Ted Matthews.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Dwain Little, Sill Coffman, Joe Copeland, Jerry Carr, Roger Carr, Steve Ayers, James Neely, Ricky Thompson, Larry Geesling, Ernest Geesling, Gary Hollars, Doug Young, Clyde Taylor, and C.O. Young.

Ellen Morgan
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Morgan, 74, of Crawford, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Raymond Phillips and Rev. Arnold Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Welch Memorial cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Morgan died Sunday, Oct. 6 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was owner and operator of Morgan's Grocery in Crawford and was of the Baptist faith.

Born June 10, 1928, in Davidson, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Lou (Ledbetter) Ramsey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Morgan; a son, Doug Morgan; two brothers, Dillard Ramsey and Red Ramsey; four sisters, Zoe Hall, Ida Hall, Rosie Gracey, and Eunice Ramsey; and an infant sister.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Nickie Lane, Crawford; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Terry Morgan, Crawford; a sister and brother-in-law, June and Doyle Roach, Dayton, OH; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and special nephew, Jay Hall and Lennie Ruth Hall, Monterey.

Mitchell Phillips
Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell Phillips, 76, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Ronnie Swallows and Rev. Raymond Phillips officiating. Burial was in Welch Memorial cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Phillips died Sunday, Oct. 6 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a coal miner and a self-employed carpenter.

Born December 4, 1925, in Monterey, he was the son of the late Dora Phipps and W.J. Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Phillips; and a sister, Gladys Graves.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Phillips, Monterey; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Troy Jones, Cookeville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Rita Phillips and Anthony and Donna Phillips, all of Cookeville; a step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Steve and Melanie Phillips, Cookeville; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Thelma and Ed Carson Buckner and Shirley and Bill Whittaker, all of Monterey, Georgie Mitchell, Penelton, IN, and Nancy and Richard Turner and Betty and Joe Redenbaugh, all of Anderson, IN; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alfred and Daphaney Phillips and Arnold Phillips, all of Monterey; a sister-in-law, Mary Phillips, Anderson, IN; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were his grandsons and nephews. Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday school class.

Dora Pryor Rector
Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Pryor Rector, 83, of Gainesboro, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Rev. Tracy Langford and Rev. Dewey Glenn Masters officiating. Burial was in Allen's Chapel cemetery in the Allen's Chapel Community of Overton County with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Rector died Friday, Oct. 4 at Cumberland River Hospital. She was a factory worker and associated with Aaron's Chapel Community Church in Overton County.

Born March 9, 1919, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Volentine Pryor and Veler Lynn Pryor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paskel Lawson; a step-daughter, Wilma Jean Morris; a sister, Neely Pryor; and three brothers, Encil Pryor, Willie Pryor, and Arvle Pryor.

Survivors include a step-son-in-law, Att Morris, Indiana; a brother, Harse Pryor, Gainesboro; three sisters, Magdalene Allen and Lucille Brown, both of Hilham, and Iva D. Parrette, Dayton, OH; three step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Shelia "Joe" Rice
Funeral services for Mr. Shelia "Joe" Rice, 66, of Gainesboro, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville with Bro. Elmore Judd officiating. Burial was in Nash cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Rice died Monday, Sept. 30 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer and a retired auto worker for General Motors.

Born June 24, 1936, in Baxter, he was the son of the late Logan Mansfield and Flora Alice (Judd) Rice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Kay Rice; a brother, Lawrence Rice; and three sisters, Ethel Rice, Versa Maxwell, and Grace Maynard.

Survivors include his wife, Morina (Young) Rice, Gainesboro; three sons, Brian Lee Rice, Hueston Rice, and Joe Daryl Rice, all of Gainesboro; three daughters and a son-in-law, Camilla Jo and Donald Mann, Royal Oak, MI, Elizabeth Ann Ortmann, Beverly Hills, MI, and Tina Morina Rice, Gainesboro; four brothers, Houston Rice, Baxter, Arson Rice, Canton, MI, Cleburn Rice, Livonia, MI, and Bobby Lee Rice, Hilham; five sisters, Edna Williams and Nancy Pearl Johnson, both of Sparta, Oma Stidham and Wilma Rodgers, both of Cookeville, and Deloris Massa, Detroit, MI; two grandchildren, Michael Carl Joseph Mann and Hannah Elaine Ortmann; and several nieces and nephews. His family members served as pallbearers.

Sue Stringer
Funeral services for Mrs. Sue Stringer, 63, of Cookeville, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville with Rev. Buddy Henry officiating. Burial will be in West cemetery in Putnam County with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Stringer died Monday, Oct. 7 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a housewife and a member of the Freewill Baptist church.

Born November 16, 1938, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Crockett and Stella (Lafever) Randolph.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy E. Stringer, Cookeville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul A. and Teresa Stringer, Livingston, and Ronald Edwin and Melissa Stringer, Smithville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and John Ours, Smithville; a brother, Clayton Randolph, Baxter; five sisters, Margie Parham, Jewell Watts, Ruth Holman, and Juanita Wilson, all of Cookeville, and Dorothy Spivey, Sparta; nine grandchildren, Jason Ours, Shannon Ours, Alan Stringer, Kristin Stringer, Elicia Taylor, Benjamin Stringer, Andrea Stringer, Amanda Ours, Hannah Stringer, and Nathan Stringer; and two great grandchildren, Gavin Gunter and Avery Ours.

Roy White
Funeral services for Mr. Roy White, 73, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Gore officiating. Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. White died Monday, Sept. 30 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a construction worker and heavy equipment operator. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served as a member of Walnut Grove Church of Christ and Masonic Lodge Post 259.

Born October 21, 1928, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Edgar and Lela (Norris) White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary White; and three brothers, Charles White, Troy White, and James White.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jean (Coffman) White, Livingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Tammy White, Livingston; a sister, Clara Jean Reed, Bridgewater, VA; four brothers, Billy Joe White, Barbarton, OH, Jerry White, Cookeville, and Tommy White and E.B. White, both of Livingston; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family members.

Pallbearers were Jay Coffman, Jack Poindexter, James Parrott, Charles Parrott, Tim White, and Charles Stockton.

Claudie G. Wright
Funeral services for Mr. Claudie G. Wright, 66, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Cletis Beason officiating. Burial was in the Monroe cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wright died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He worked in the maintenance department at Berkline and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Born December 12, 1934, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Perry and Ollie (Cooper) Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ann (Conner) Wright.

Survivors include a son, David Wright, Livingston; two sisters, Dean Groce and Atley Winningham, both of Byrdstown; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Shirley Wright, Terry Byrd, Jimmy Ringley, Thomas Winningham, Rick Bowman, Ron Gordley.

Leon Laverne Mills
Funeral services for Mr. Leon Laverne Mills, 72, of the Allred Community, will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Reading, MI, with Clyde Wonders officiating. Burial will be in the Frontier cemetery in Frontier, MI, with Rickman Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Mills died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was a sawmill operator, a member of the VFW in Livingston, a master Mason of the Shiloh Lodge 637, a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 206 of Livingston, and he served in the Korean War.

Born May 29, 1928, in Jackson, MI, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Leta (Haines) Mills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Mills, Allred; two sons, Larry Mills and Lee Mills, both of Michigan; two daughters, Linda Mills, Alpine, and Besia Smith, Michigan; three sisters, Alice Miller and Daneen Maxson, both of Michigan, and Donelda Hayes, Indiana; a brother, Thomas Mills, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Earlene McCloud
Funeral services for Mrs. Earlene McCloud, 40, of Monterey, were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. David Harris and Rev. J.C. Hood officiating. Burial was in the Welch Memorial cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McCloud died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a disabled factory worker.

Born March 23, 1961, in Monterey, she was the daughter of the late George Earl and Lula (Bilbrey) Reeves. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Bilbrey and James Reeves.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie McCloud and Jeffery McCloud, both of Monterey; four sisters, Dimple Reeves and Lucille Looper, both of Monterey, Anna Guffey, Hanging Limb, and Ellen Allen, Crossville; two brothers, Carl Reeves and Doyle Reeves, both of Monterey.

Shiela Vechel King
Funeral services for Mrs. Shiela Vechel King, 77, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001, from Etter Baptist Church with Jeff Brown officiating. Burial was in the Etter cemetery in Pickett County, with Crestlawn Funeral Home of Byrdstown in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. King died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a production worker, homemaker, and a member of the Etter Baptist Church.

Born September 4, 1923, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Franklin and Nora (King) Franklin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen 'Pee Wee' King.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Smith, Byrdstown; a son, Gerald King, San Antonio, TX; a sister, Juanita Story, Monroe; and two grandchildren, Adam King Smith, Byrdstown, and Leslie Brooke King, San Antonio.

Pallbearers were David Story, and the Deacons of the Etter Baptist Church.

Elmer Howard
Funeral services for Mr. Elmer Howard, 87, of Mayland, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Tommy Clark officiating. Burial was in the Welch Memorial cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Howard died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. He was a retired factory worker, a farmer and a 1933 Monterey High School Graduate.

Born December 26, 1913, in the Columbia Hill community of Overton County, he was the son of the late Leonard and Sarah Jane (Phillips) Howard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Hall) Howard; a daughter, Barbara Ireland; two sisters, Winifred Hackney and Elise Lathram; and a brother, Carson Howard.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Potter, Crossville; a son, Roger Howard, Crossville; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Meagan Cassetty
Funeral services for Miss Meagan Cassetty, 16, of the North Springs community of Jackson County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001, from the Kermit Forkum Gymnasium at Jackson County High School with Bro. John Kirby and Bro. Andy Kirby officiating. Burial was in the John L. Clark Memorial cemetery in the Stone Community of Jackson County with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Miss Cassetty died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Jackson County. She was a member of the North Springs Church of Christ in Jackson County and a student at Jackson County High School, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the softball team.

Born July 25, 1984, in Cookeville, she was the daughter of Kelly and Karen Cassetty of the North Springs community. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Billy Jay Cassetty; and great grandparents, Luster and Dixie Cassetty, and Rad and Minnie Spivey.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a brother, Tyler Cassetty, North Springs community; a grandmother, Inez Cassetty, North Springs community; great grandmother, Lucy Stafford, Gainesboro; a close personal friend, Clint Conner, Gainesboro; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and other relatives.
