Lucian "Boss" Copeland
Funeral services for Mr. Lucian "Boss" Copeland, 85, of Allons, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Newsome Harvey officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery with Speck Funeral Home of Livingston in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Copeland, a retired policeman with the Livingston Police Department, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital. Born August 27, 1914, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Hyder and Maggie Ledbetter Copeland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Duvall and Anna Rae Ray.

He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include a half-brother, Don Copeland, Cookeville; and two sisters, Pauline Ballard, Livingston, and Johnnie Vaughan, Hartwell, GA. Pallbearers were city police.

Donald Gene "Pete" Davis
Funeral services for Mr. Donald Gene "Pete" Davis, 60, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Sharp officiating. Burial was in Ruth Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home of Livingston in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Davis, a truck driver with the Overton County Highway Department, died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born February 15, 1939, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Andy and Hazel Brown Davis.

He was a member of Maxwell Chapel Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Louise England Davis, Hilham, three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Jr. and Faye Davis, Cookeville, Doug and Robin Davis, Crossville, and David and Lisa Davis, Lebanon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Joe Harpe, Rickman, and Denise and Jackie Burchett, Hilham; a very special brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Charlotte Davis, Hilham; a sister-in-law, Gladys Davis, Hilham; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Edmonds, Hardys Chapel community, Bobbie and Jim Mabrey, Hilham, and Barbara Danner, Livingston; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Davis, Jennifer Davis, Devin and Jordan Davis, Loura and Ryan Harpe, Josh Simpson, Cindy Burchett, Tyler Davis, and Claeb Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Pallbearers were James "Dookie" Garrett, Joe Garrett, Mark Gore, Junior Fleming, Jim Bean, David McDonald, and George Sells.

Opal I. Brown
Funeral services for Mrs. Opal I. Brown, 67, of Chesterfield, IN, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2000, from the chapel of Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson, IN, with Dave Cordry and Charlie Soden officiating. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Park in Anderson, IN, with Rozell-Johnson Funeral Service in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Brown, a nurse's aide at Community Hospital in Anderson, IN, for 15 years, died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at Community Hospital in Anderson, IN.

Born September 3, 1932, in Livingston, she was the daughter of the late David and Nannie Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Richardson and Carlie Richardson.

She was a member of Columbus Avenue Church of Christ and Stroke Club of Muncie.

Survivors include her husband, Larry D. Brown, Chesterfield, IN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty (Harvey) and Keith Graham, Frankton, IN, and Pam (Harvey) and Dave Platts, Avon, IN; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim and Cheryl Harvey, Anderson, IN, and Tim Harvey, Turnwater, WA; three step-children, Larry Brown, Tina Hall, and Lorrie Brown, all of Anderson, IN; a brother, Arlie Richardson, Anderson, IN; three sisters, Lou Huckeby, Gideon, MO, Elva Joynes, Nashville, and Alva Dean Seber, Allons; 21 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Bessie Louise Bilson
Mrs. Bessie Louise Gilson, 88, of Cookeville, died Monday, February 7, 2000, at the Cookeville Manor Nursing Center. Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro was in charge of the cremation arrangements. No funeral services were held.

Mrs. Gilson was a retired nurse's aide.

Born November 9, 1911, in Sparrowbush, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Schultz Canfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Gilson.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail M. Gilson, Cookeville, and Diane Costic, Greenville, NY; two grandchildren, Candi Conklin, Gainesboro, and Russell Conklin, Hilham; and six great grandchildren.

Sol G. Norris
Funeral services for Mr. Sol G. Norris, 80, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch and Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating. Burial was in Bethlem cemetery with Speck Funeral Home of Livingston in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Norris, a Star Route mail carrier, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital. Born June 19, 1919, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Porter and Sallie Ledbetter Norris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Walker Norris.

He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Colecchia, Adrian, MI, Karen Norris, and Judy Stacey both of Livingston; two sisters, Evelyn Walker, Cookeville, and Laura Ledford, Alpine; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were V.F.W. members.

Kenneth W. 'K.V.' Vaughn
Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth W. 'K.V.' Vaughn, 49, of Akron, OH, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2000, at the Brown Street Church of Christ in Akron, OH, with Keith Storment officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery in Uniontown, OH, with Hopkins-Lawver Funeral Home in Akron, OH, in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Vaughn, a teacher and coach at Springfield High School for 27 years, died Sunday, January 30, 2000.

Born August 30, 1950, in Akron, OH, he was the son of Raleigh and Delores Vaughn. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Eula Vaughn and Perry and Bertha Winningham.

He was a member of Tallmadge Church of Christ. He had been inducted into the East High School Hall of Fame, the Greater Akron Softball Hall of Fame, and the Lone Star Fraternity Hall of Fame.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Janice Vaughn; a daughter, Michell Leeser; two sons, Kevin Vaughn and Ryan Vaughn; a brother, James 'Billie' Vaughn; a sister, Kathy Brown; an uncle, Derward Vaughn, Livingston; and two aunts, Inez Thrasher, Livingston, and Eddis Sells, Donelson.

William Horace Curtis
Funeral services for Mr. William Horace Curtis, 91, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2000, from Dodson Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Jackey Wheeler and Rev. Comer McGuire officiating. Burial was in Dodson Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Curtis, a schoolteacher, banker and farmer, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1908, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Lee and Betty (Green) Curtis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Curtis.

He was a member of Dodson Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilkie Curtis, Rickman; a son and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Sharon Curtis, Rickman, and Carolyn Curtis, Cookeville; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Randy Dodson, Donnie Stover, Kenneth Dodson, Ornan Robbins, Russ Cyphers, Henry Blankenship, Willard Brown, and Gene Curtis.

Billy Howard Bennett
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Howard Bennett, 62, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Dewey Glenn Masters officiating. Burial was in the Campground cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bennett died Thursday, January 18, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a factory worker. Born June 8, 1938, in Hilham, he was the son of Lula Bennett of Hilham and the late Howard Bennett.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a brother, Freddie Bennett, and special companion, Sondra Spivey, both of Hilham; a nephew, Bubbie Davis; and four nieces, Valene Davis, Britney Kinnard, Crystal Kinnard, and Sherrie Kinnard.

Pallbearers were Jim Bennett, Roy Bennett, Kenneth Geesling, Larry Geesling, Frank Strong, and Tim Geesling.

Walter F. Gilman
Funeral services for Mr. Walter F. Gilman, 68, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ziehmer officiating. Burial was in the Hatcher Hall cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gilman died Friday, September 28, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a mechanic and member of the Christian faith.

Born March 12, 1933, in Lenore, WV, he was the son of the late Donald and Ella May (Deskins) Gilman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Duane Gilman.

Survivors include his wife, Elise Gilman, Livingston; two daughters, Darlene Crenshaw, Canton, GA, and Lenida Linder, Rickman; three brothers, Arnold Gilman, Burl Gilman , Cecil Gilman, all of Columbus, OH; four sisters, Donna Richards, Ohio, Phyllis Cox and Brenda Miller, both of West Virginia, and Shirley Smith, Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Trey Crenshaw and Robert Crenshaw, both of Canton, GA, and Blakelee Linder and Macy Linder, both of Rickman; and a special niece and nephew, Vicki King and Ricky Gilman.

Pallbearers were Little Boy James Gunnels, Scotty Gunnels, Ryan Meadows, Rod Johnson, Steve Jolly, and Larry Jolly.

Carson Odell Winningham
Funeral services for Mr. Carson Odell Winningham, 73, of Livingston, were conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Holman and Bro. Terry McCloud officiating. Burial was in the Hoover cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Winningham died Sunday, September 23, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a truck driver, of the Baptist faith, member of the American Legion, and served as Deputy Sheriff under James Eldridge in Overton County.

Born August 24, 1928, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Jonah Matt and Laura Mae (Stover) Winningham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Brown, Thula Bilbrey, and Cora Fletcher; and a brother, Haskell Winningham.

Survivors include a son, Troy Winningham, Seattle, WA; two brothers, Clarence Winningham, Baltimore, MD, and Claude Winningham, Yardley, PA; and a sister, Cleo Daniels, Livingston.

Landsen B. Ramsey
Funeral services for Mr. Landsen B. Ramsey, 75, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch and Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ramsey died Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a factory worker and member of the Grace Baptist Church in Alpine.

Born August 7, 1926, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Radford and Mary (Walker) Ramsey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Cella Swack and Zella Ramsey; and a brother, Ray Ramsey.

Survivors include his wife, Lousie Ramsey, Livingston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Oral Ramsey, and Allen and Nancy Ramsey, all of Livingston; one step-son, Danny Ray Barker, Indiana; one step-daughter, Janie Potter, Maryville; a brother, Junior Ramsey, Hilham; six sisters, Della Boswell, Elise Cantrell, Rillie Hill, and Marie Greenwood, all of Livingston, Stella Stafford, Lebanon, and Alice Cole, Allons; one granddaughter, Gina Ramsey, Livingston; five step-grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jay Ramsey, Mike Ramsey, Billy Cole Jr., Mike Holton, Col. Doug Young, Chris Cantrell, Mark Ramsey, and Joey Hill. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Tony Hill, Joe Ramsey, Bobby Smith, Chuck Smith, and Benton Smith.

Lucille Massingille
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Massingille, 84, of Celina, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2001, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina with Minister Robert Boles officiating. Burial was in the Fitzgerald cemetery in Celina with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Massingille died Thursday, September 27, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was homemaker and affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Born June 18, 1917, in Celina, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Lou (Fletcher) Stacey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Wilburn Massingille.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Massingille, Livingston, and John B. Massingille, Allons; a daughter, Mary Lou Massingille, Celina; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Maude Lee Jernigan-Henry
Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Lee Jernigan-Henry, 75, of Oak Ridge, were conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2001, from the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Brian Walls officiating. Interment icon was in Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton with Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jernigan-Henry died Monday, January 15, 2001, at the Methodist Medical Center.

She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church and was a retired LPN and unit secretary of the Methodist Medical Center.

Born June 24, 1925, in Moore County, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Wiley and Edna (Seawell) Myrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her first husband, L.P. Jernigan; two sons, Stephan and an infant son, Charles Paul; two brothers, Howard Myrick and Willie Myrick; and two sisters, Maybelle Poe and Annie Lou Shaw.

Survivors include her second husband, Franklin Henry, Oak Ridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Jack Sturm, Oak Ridge; a daughter-in-law, Betsy Jernigan, Clinton; a sister, Kathleen Latta, Sanford, NC; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Ina Myrick, Asheboro, NC, and Hurley and Ruth Myrick, Farmville, VA; a sister-in-law, Nola Mae Needham, Livingston; four granddaughters, Shannon Leach, Knoxville, Julie Leach, Clinton, Stephanie Jernigan, Clinton, and Molly Jernigan, Clinton; three step-grandchildren, Alison Shoemaker, Cincinnati, OH, Kelly Sturm, and Lauren Sturm, both of Knoxville; and several nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
