Charles Elbert Birkes Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Elbert Birkes Jr., 83, of Celina, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2001, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina with Edward Todd officiating. Burial was in the Fitzgerald cemetery in Celina with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Birkes died Friday, January 19, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

He was a self-employed truck driver, a former St. Louis, MO, police officer with 15 years of service, and a member of the Pentacostal Church of God.

Born September 8, 1917, in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of the late Charles Elbert and Elsa (Bartsch) Birkes. Survivors include his wife, Edith Birkes, Celina; a son, Larry Charles Birkes, Orlando, FL; a daughter, Barbara Louise Bane, Celina; a sister, Ardell Yuchs, Denver, CO; and four grandchildren.

Dillard Dale Ramsey
Funeral services for Mr. Dillard Dale Ramsey, 76, of Crawford, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2001, fromVine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. David Phillips and Rev. Alvin Copeland officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in the Phillips cemetery in the Hanging Limb Community with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ramsey died Monday, January 15, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Hospital.

He was a coal miner, a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, and was of the Baptist faith.

Born April 7, 1924, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Robert "Bob" and Alice Lou (Ledbetter) Ramsey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ramsey, Crawford; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse and Charlene Ramsey, Vine Ridge Community, Herbert and Brenda Ramsey and Gary and Anna Ruth Ramsey, all of Crawford; five daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Sam Patton, Crossville, Brenda and Steve Ramsey, Banner Springs Community, Roxie and Grady Phillips, Sunk Cane Community, Connie and Gerald Richards, Grimsley, and Janice and Charles Miller, Vine Ridge Community; two sisters, Ellen Morgan, Vine Ridge Community, and June Rooch, Dayton, OH; an aunt, Bessie Morgan, Sparta; two special nephews, J.H. Hall, Monterey and Dwayne Morgan, Crawford; a special family friend, Bessie Harvey, Highland Community; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jonathan Ramsey, Seth Miller, Russell Phillips, Dylan Richards, J.H. Hall, and Dwayne Morgan.

Haskell C. Webb
Funeral services for Mr. Haskell C. Webb, 75, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Coil and Bro. Glen Goggins officiating. Burial was in Savage cemetery at Walnut Grove with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Webb died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

He was a retired factory worker, a deacon at Livingston church of Christ, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Born April 16, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late James Mayford and Maude Lack Webb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy Webb; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Edna Webb, Livingston; two sons, David Haskell Webb and Lewis Paul Webb, both of Livingston; a brother, James E. Webb, Cookeville; four sisters, Ola Mae Haney, Cookeville, Sue Nell Oakley, Algood, Alma Talley, Rickman, and Delane Harris, Anderson, IN; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jeff Webb, Jason Webb, Jamie Webb, Anthony Webb, Gary Webb, and Herman Webb. Serving as honorary pallbearers were the elders and deacons of Livingston church of Christ.

Clifford E. Thornton
Mr. Clifford E. Thornton, 62, of Alpine, died Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a truck driver with Roadway Express.

Born January 26, 1938, in Covington, KY, he was the son of the late Myron M. and Grace (Schumocher) Thornton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thornton, Alpine; a son, Glen Thornton, Alpine; a daughter, Beverly Paul, Alpine; a brother, Rodford Thornton, Covington; a sister, Virginia Howard, Covington; and four grandchildren, Jacob Fitzgerald, Florida, Bradley Thornton and Chris Thornton, Alpine, and Bryan Paul, Alpine. No services have been scheduled at this time.

Winifred Fay Scott
Funeral services for Mrs. Winifred Fay Scott, 73, of Monroe, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating. Burial was in the Beaty cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Scott died Monday, January 15, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a former scrub nurse at Livingston Regional Hospital, and a member of McDonalds Chapel United Methodist Church and the Livingston Order of the Eastern Star.

Born December 22, 1927, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Martha (Reeser) Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Scott.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Brenda Scott, Monroe; a daughter, Debbie Trotter, Georgia; three brothers, Wilton L. Wright, Arkansas, Kenneth Wright, Nashville, and Duane Wright, Livingston; and four grandchildren, Danielle Scott, Natalie Trotter, Trey Trotter, and Caroline Trotter. Pallbearers were Ralph Robbins, James Robbins, Larry Smith, Kendall Smith, Charlie Sells, and Jimmy Savage.

Hazel Alice Johncox
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Alice Johncox, 97, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in the Allred cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Johncox died Monday, January 15, 2001, at Spring City Healthcare in Spring City. She was a housewife.

Born December 17, 1903, in Onsted, MI, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Anna (Clarke) Winters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Johncox; a daughter, Janice Bournes; two brothers, Harold Winters and Harlan Winters; and two sisters Erma Burdeno and Kate Butts.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Winters, Florida; six grandchildren, Debbie Gautz, Cartage, MO, Bill Bournes, Steve Bournes, and Colleen Mitchell Lane, all of Allred, Karen Bournes, Spring City, and Julie Tade, Hestand, KY; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Nick Wilson, Craig Mitchell, Brandon Bournes, Jason Bournes, Todd Bournes, and Chad Bournes. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bradley Bournes and Wyatt Nelson.

Escoe Hammons
Funeral services for Mr. Escoe Hammons, 82, of Clarkrange, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2000, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Kevin Phillips and Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Welch Memorial cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hammons, a retired employee of Borden's Dairy in Dayton, OH, died Monday, February 14, 2000, at his home in Clarkrange.

Born October 17, 1917, in Rickman, he as the son of the late Joseph Alexander and Melissa (Garrett) Hammons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Erma Looper, and a grandson, Michael Bowman.

He was a member of the Mineral Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Leva (Norrod) Hammons, Clarkrange; a daughter, Billie Bowman, Dayton, OH; two sons, James Hammons, Clarkrange, and Frank Hammons, Dayton, OH; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Mary E. Copeland
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Copeland, 81, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Steele officiating. Burial was in Copeland cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Copeland, a housewife, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born March 31, 1919, in Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late John and Bell Lee Massey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clois Copeland.

Survivors include a son, James Copeland, Livingston; two daughters, Fay Clark, Livingston, and Paulette Wilson, Portland, IN; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

James "Sweet Pea" Lane
Graveside services for Mr. James "Sweet Pea' Lane, 73, of Wilder, were conducted at 5 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2000, from Honey Springs cemetery with Bro. Glen Goggins officiating. Goff Funeral Home of Monterey was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Lane, a retire coal miner, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born May 17, 1926, in Wilder, he was the son of the late Walter and Myrtle (Neal) Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Betty (Watson) Lane; two daughters, Judy Lane and Sue Delk; two sons, Keith Lane and Ken Lane; a sister, Carrie Dodson; and a brother, Junior Lane.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Gipson, Anderson, IN, and Kim Reeder, Byrdstown; six grandchildren, Linda Syverson, Betty Stamps, Scottie Delk, Brian Lane, Daniel Reeder, and Robert Newberry; and three great grandchildren, Eric Syverson, Robbie Syverson, and Dustin Keith Stamps.

J.C. Phillips
Funeral services for Mr. J.C. Phillips, 70, of Monterey, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2000, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Tex Boles officiating. Burial was in Phillips cemetery in the Anderson Community with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Phillips, a retired coal miner, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born August 4, 1929, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Laborn and Clara Mae (Vaughn) Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rinda Vaughn Nash, Liddie Murphy, and Emma Phillips; and four brothers, Emby Phillips, Jake Phillips, Joe Phillips, and John Phillips.

He was affiliated with the Monterey 2nd Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Belva (Bilbrey) Phillips, Monterey; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Dale Thompson, Monterey; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Pam Phillips, Monterey; a sister, Dora Murphy, Monterey; a brother, Charlie Phillips, Monterey; and four grandchildren, Jason Thompson, Stacy Thompson, Jessica Phillips, and Jamie Phillips and wife Lora Phillips.

Ollie Beaty
Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Beaty, 93, of Dunkirk, IN, and formerly of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, from the chapel of MJS Mortuaries Jones Chapel in Red Key, IN, with Bro. Arnold Burris officiating. Burial was in Dunkirk, IN.

Mrs. Beaty died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Caylor Nickel Clinic in Bluffton, IN.

Born September 13, 1906, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late John and Cora Bell Norrod Sams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thermon Caleb Beaty; and two daughters, Edith Story and Elise Lea.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mabel and Ernest McCowan, Dunkirk, IN, Opal and Clifford Phillips, Livingston, and Delsie and Ernest Buckner, Dunkirk, IN; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Lucille Beaty, Redkey, IN, and Dewey and Reba Beaty, Dunkirk, IN; two sisters, Velma Phillips, Crossville, and Edna Wilson, Monterey; 31 grandchildren; 73 great grandchildren; and 42 great-great grandchildren.

Dustin Grant Rush
Funeral services for Dustin Grant Rush, 12, of the Pleasant Ridge Community of Overton County, will be conducted today, Wednesday, April 26, 2000, from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Jeff Short and Rev. Charles Walker officiating. Burial will be in Sand Springs Memorial Gardens with Horner Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Dustin died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital in Chattanooga.

Born September 14, 1987, in Cookeville, he was the son of Willie H. and Vickie L. (Bowman) Rush of the Pleasant Ridge Community. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Russell Bowman; paternal grandparents, Clarence Earl and Donna Ann (Cross) Rush; and a step-brother, Scott Howard. He was a sixth grade student at Rickman Elementary School; a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church; and a member of the Livingston Junior Pro "Outlaws' football team.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a brother, Russell Rush; and his maternal grandmother, Ollie Mae (Blaylock) Bowman, Cookeville.

Pallbearers will be Russell Rush, Alan Shelton, Bennie Swindle, Jeff Bowman, Casey Bowman, Jim Staggs, and Don Staggs. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Livingston Junior Pro "Outlaws' football team.

Roy Earchel King
Funeral services for Mr. Roy Earchel King, 52, of Alpine, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Dr. David Moore officiating. Burial was in Copeland cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. King, a road construction worker, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Born October 30, 1947, in Fentress County, he was the son of Lena King of Jamestown and the late Travis King.

He was a member of Millers Chapel Christian Church.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Janet King, Alpine; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Connie King, Alpine; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jerry Dixon; a mother-in-law, Ruth Copeland, Alpine; two brothers, Kendall King, Alpine, and R.B. King, Cadiz, KY; four sisters, Irene Paul, Alpine, Alene Hayes, Grimsley, Clara Carr, and Pauline Logsdon, both of Bowling Green, KY; two grandchildren, Olivia King and Clay Dixon; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jeff Paul, Bruce Paul, Freddie Paul, Ryan King, Brent Linder, and Timmy Copeland.
