Funeral services for Mrs. Alleta D. Smith, 79, of Monroe, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001, at Beaty Swamp Community Church with Bro. Glea Shelly officiating. Burial was in the Sylvester Robbins cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a housewife and a member of the Beaty Swamp Community Church.

Born April 1, 1922, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Joel Robert and Hassie (Taylor) King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, T. Worth Smith; three sisters, Naomi King, Lella King, and Lerion Parsons; and two brothers, Harlan King and Bob King.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daral Blan and Julia Smith, Livingston, and Larry Pat Smith, Monroe; a brother, John King, Monroe; four sisters, Maxine Scott, Cookeville, Judy Robbins, Rickman, Barbara Jean Davenport, Murfreesboro, and Sandra June Tubb, Gordonsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Robbins, Barney McDonald, Donnie McDonald, Jimmy Daniels, Jimmy King, Timmy King, and Cody King.

Martin "Marty" Foster Shelley Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin "Marty" Foster Shelley Jr., 18, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2001, from the chapel of Bloomington Christian Church in Byrdstown with Bro. Gary Pruitt officiating. Burial was in the Neal cemetery in Byrdstown with Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Shelley died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, in Fentress County.

Born August 19, 1982, in Pickett County, he was the son of Martin F. Shelley Sr., and Theresa (Miller) Shelley.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandparents, Allen and Carolyn Dees, Livingston, Jay and Lucy Shelley, Selma, AL, and Sue Whited, Byrdstown; two great grandmothers, Geraldine Gillihan, Hartsville, and Eula Neal, Byrdstown; a sister, Brandie Shelley, Byrdstown; and a half brother, Jason Davis, Cookeville.

Denton Murphy
Funeral services for Mr. Denton Murphy, 76, of Spencer, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Coleman Looper officiating. Burial was in the Phillips cemetery in the Anderson Community of Overton County with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Murphy died Sunday, August 19, 2001, at his home. He was retired from Behm Glass in Dayton, OH after 36 years service and was of the Baptist faith.

Born May 8, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Martin and Liddie (Phillips) Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Murphy; two sisters, Evelyn Swicegood and Stella Mae Pughand; a brother, Jacob Murphy; and a grandson, Michael G. Murphy.

Survivors include his wife, L. Lucille (Abston) Murphy, Spencer; two daughters, Pat Hensley, Spencer, and Betty Calahan, Cookeville; a son, Charles Murphy, Milwaukie, OR; a sister, Christine Perdue, Livingston; two brothers, Earnest Murphy, Monterey, and Bedford Murphy, Battle Creek, MI; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Rita June (Delk) Williams
Funeral services for Mrs. Rita June (Delk) Williams, 56, of Monroe, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 26, 2000, from the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown with Steve Reeder officiating. Burial will be in the Wolf River cemetery in Fentress County with Jennings Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Williams, a factory worker with Russell Stover, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born November 1, 1943, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Patton Edward Delk and Eva Chestine (Sells) Delk Bliss. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacquelina Williams.

She was the owner of Remember Me Gifts in Byrdstown and a member of the Whitson Chapel Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Steve Williams, Monroe; a son, Michael Keith Williams, Monroe; her mother-in-law, Jewell Williams, Cookeville; and two aunts, Lois Mooningham, Muncie, IN, and Junita Salerno, Jamestown.

Thomas Edward Tinch
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Edward Tinch, 62, of Cookeville, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, from the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home in Cookeville with Bro. Bill Matheney officiating. Burial was in the Crestlawn cemetery with Dyer Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Tinch, retired from Tennessee Technological University, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born September 11, 1937, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Frank Tinch and Lula Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Albert Tinch.

He was a member of the Livingston Masonic Lodge #259, the Overton County Horseback Riders Association, and the Upper Cumberland Horseback Riders Association.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Tinch, Cookeville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and John Terry, Algood, Marice and Horace Poston, Livingston, Mary Ann and Myron Stringer and Melinda and Ken Pendleton, all of Cookeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Teresa Huddleston, Kentucky; his mother-in-law, Ruth Jackson, Cookeville; three brothers, Gerald Tinch and Donald Tinch, both of Cookeville, and Harce Tinch, Rickman; three sisters, Catherine Cates, Monterey, Jonnie Key, Algood, and Sue Tosh, Cookeville; and grandchildren, Brody and Chloe Stringer and Kristian and Kaylon Pendleton, Cookeville, Justin Poston, Livingston, and Michelle Huddleston, Kentucky.

Pallbearers were Eugene Gilliam, David Mays, Kenny Phillips, Bill Underwood, Robby Underwood, and Bobby Watson.

Lola Ellen (Harvey) Taylor
Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Ellen (Harvey) Taylor, 96, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in the Old Bethel cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Taylor, a homemaker, died Monday, July 17, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born June 26, 1904, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Byrd (Heard) Harvey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy McKinley Taylor; two sons, Jessie Taylor and Clyde Taylor; two brothers, Edward Harvey and Grady Harvey; and one sister, Pearl Clark.

She was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, O.D. Taylor, Hilham; a sister, Mary Lou Reeder, Indiana; two brothers, Onas Harvey and Roy Harvey, both of Monroe; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Daniel Sells, Tony Hamilton, Bryan Crabtree, Chase Taylor, Michael Poston, and Carl Crabtree.

Mattie Lee Stults
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Lee Stults, 78, of Monterey were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Rex Boles officiating. Burial was in the Welch Memorial cemetery in Monterey with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Stults, a homemaker, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born May 23, 1922, in Crawford, she was the daughter of the late Colonel and Minnie (Harris) Isabell.

She attended the Monterey Second Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dallas Stults, Monterey; a son and daughter-in-law, Dallas Jr. and Carolyn Stults, Clinton; three daughters, Carol and Harold Bilbrey and Jo and Lloyd Covington, all of Cookeville, and Becky and Daniel Jones, Monterey; eight grandchildren, Scott and Ellen Bilbrey, Amanda and Mike Phillips, Andrea and Elton Macintosh, Amber Stults, Eli Covington, Hannah Covington, and Danielle and Caleb Jones; and two great grandchildren, Lauren and Olivia Bilbrey.

Pallbearers were Terry Bowman, Argle McCowan, Hoyt Looper, M.B. Phillips, James England, and Eli Covington. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Phillips, Scott Bilbrey, Elton Macintosh, and Doyle Vaughn.

Gwendolyn F. (McDonald) Dixon
Funeral services for Mrs. Gwendolyn F. (McDonald) Dixon, 65, of Knoxville, were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, from Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Oaks and Rev. Angela Hardy officiating. Graveside services for Mrs. Dixon were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at Highland Memorial cemetery with Highland Memorial Funeral Home of Knoxville in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Dixon died Tuesday, Feb. 5. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the TVMA Auxiliary, and the American Dietetic Association. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Minnie (Huddleston) McDonald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Dixon.

Survivors include a son and a daughter-in-law, Brent and Shelia Dixon, Knoxville; a daughter, Cindy Dixon, Knoxville; and two grandsons, Eric Dixon and Trevor Dixon, both of Knoxville.

Owen C. Reid
Funeral services for Mr. Owen C. Reid, 87, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Dewey Glenn Masters officiating. Burial was in Eckel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Reid died Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a farmer, of the Methodist faith, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

Born April 7, 1914, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Porter and Bertha (Eckel) Reid.

Survivors include his wife, Willie P. Reid, Livingston; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Wallace and Rita Reid, Cookeville, and David and Gale Reid, Livingston; a brother, Arlo Reid, Livingston; one granddaughter, Leigh Ann Reid, Franklin; and two step grandchildren, Rex Bennett and Keri Bennett, Cookeville.

Pallbearers were Donald Ray Reid, Gary Reid, Joe Brown, Earl Loftis, Owen Norrod, Mance Brown, and Mike Webb.

Edmon Ray Mathis
Funeral services for Mr. Edmon Fay Mathis, 63, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Jones, Bro. Jeff Amonett, and Bro. Eugene McCowan officiating. Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Mathis died Saturday, Feb. 2 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He worked with frozen food in Nobelsville, IN, and was a member of the Moodyville Baptist Church in Byrdstown.

Born June 8, 1938, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Plez Edmon and Sarah Ann Mathis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Faye Mathis; a brother, Bill Mathis; two infant sisters; and a nephew, Michael Mathis.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce West Mathis; a daughter and her special friend, Deborah Kay Mathis and Eric Shell, Anderson, IN; a son and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Ray and Kelly Mathis, Anderson; two step-sons and two daughters-in-law, Darrell and Lisa Huddleston and Michael Dale and Joy Huddleston, all of Byrdstown; five grandchildren, Brandy Mathis, Shane Huddleston, Jesse Huddleston, Junior Huddleston, and Wayne Huddleston; a niece, Amanda Mathis; two nephews, Shane Mathis and Travis Mathis; and a great great nephew, Michael Mathis.

Pallbearers were James Cyphers, Keith Cyphers, Ranson Clark, James Dishman, Coy Nation, and Don Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Kevin Hughes, Fred Clem, Willard Hill, Herb Groce, Ancel Beaty, and Ed Colson.

Lucille Garrett
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Garrett, 82, of Mayland, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Carl Hubbard and Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial was in Mayland cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Garrett died Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Peachtree Nursing Home in Smyrna. She worked with the State of Tennessee as office manager at the Tennessee Department of Unemployment Security in Cumberland, Putnam, Fentress, and Roane counties. She was a member of Mayland Baptist Church, the Mayland Senior Citizens, and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville and had a real estate license with Pioneer Realty in Crossville.

Born February 1, 1920, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Vince and Nannie (Speck) Stout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Garrett; two sons, Elmer Keith Garrett and Gerald Wayne Garrett; and a infant daughter, Patricia Ann Garrett.

Survivors include two daughters, Anita Clydine Everett, Nashville, and Cheryl Darlene Watson, Hendersonville; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Nathaniel O'neal Farr
Funeral services for Master Nathaniel O'Neal Farr, 4 months-old, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, from the chapel of Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Sexton officiating. Burial was in Scroggins cemetery with Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Master Farr died Friday, Feb. 8 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Walter Scroggins.

Born October 13, 2001, he was the son of George Richard Farr IV and Tabatha (Conner) Farr of Byrdstown.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandparents, Elbert and Tami Conner, Byrdstown, and Sherry Diane Farmer, Pall Mall; great grandparents, Albert and Aletha Conner, Byrdstown, and Loretta Scroggins, Pall Mall; a brother, Matthew Calvin Conner, Byrdstown; and two uncles, Jeremy Conner and Daniel Conner. Pallbearers were Boyd Scroggins and Marty Scroggins. Honorary pallbearers were Jeremy Conner and Daniel Conner.
