Sarah M. Dial Melton
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah M. Dial Melton, 73, of Rickman, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, from the chapel of Rickman-Hall Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Monday officiating. Burial was in Zion Hill cemetery with Rickman-Hall Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Melton died Saturday, Aug. 31 at her home. She was an LPN.

Born April 22, 1929, in Rickman, she was the daughter of the late Hugh L. and Floy (Wray) Copeland.

Survivors include a son, Frank Dial, Rickman; a daughter, Vickie Laycock, Rickman; a sister, Virginia (Wray) Williams, Rickman; two grandsons, Jeremy Laycock, Rickman, and Kelly Laycock, Cookeville; two granddaughters, Chrissy Dial and Kara Dial, both of Rickman; and a great grandson, James Logan Cantrell, Rickman.

Pallbearers were Kelly Laycock, Brandon Masters, Kelly Hull, Bryant Swallows, John Harris, Mark Dial, J.D. Masters, and James Marquess.

Billy R. Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Billy R. Smith, 63, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, from Bloomington Christian Church in Byrdstown with Jesse Ireton and Mickey Jolley officiating. Burial was in Rough Shod Hollow with Brown Funeral Chapel of Byrdstown in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 21 at his home after a brief illness. He lived in New Castle, IN, and the surrounding area for several years, including Hagerstown and Spiceland. He returned to Byrdstown in 1989, following his retirement from Dana Corporation. He owned Smith Land Development Corporation and developed Rough Shod Hollow, a residential community near Dale Hollow Lake that includes many vacation homeowners from Ohio and Indiana. He was active in Perfect Circle Saddle Club for a number of years in Indiana and led wagon trains on several occasions to Brown County, IN. He was an avid cowboy, hosting rodeos and hog roasts in Indiana and Byrdstown. He was a member of New Castle Church of Christ and UAW Local 370.

Born June 13, 1939, in Byrdstown, he was the son of Virginia Evelyn (Amonett) Smith of New Castle and the late O.B. Smith.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Cathy Chamberlin, Byrdstown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey B. and Kathy Smith, Port Orange, FL, and Gregory B. and Lori Smith, Byrdstown; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela J. and Duane Ford, Arrington; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald E. and Nancy Smith, Spiceland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Archic Catron, Cookeville, and Beverly and Duane Matthews, New Castle; in-laws, Al and Arlene Chamberlin, Spiceland; a sister-in-law and her spouse, Cindy and Don Crandall, Spiceland; seven grandchildren, Nicole and Jim Parsons, Edgewater, FL, Kasey Smith, Port Orange, Wesley Ford, Amber Ford, and Katelin Ford, all of Arrington, and Brittnei Smith and Emily Smith, both of Byrdstown; a great grandson. Jalen Parsons, Edgewater; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Scott Pfenninger, David Pfenninger, Brian Pfenninger, Andy Smith, Lee Marcum, Jeff Crandall, and Kevin Crandall. Serving as honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.

William C. "Bill" Hall
Funeral services for Mr. William C. "Bill" Hall, 48, of Whitleyville, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Bro. Bobby Bartlett officiating. Burial was in the Doc Hall cemetery in the Mill Creek Community of Clay County with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hall died Wednesday , July 19, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born November 25, 1951, in Clay County, he was the son of Zora Lee (Rich) Hall of Gainesboro and the late Jesse Hall. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lodis Duren and Georgia Borgg.

He was a member of the Stone Church of Christ in Jackson County and a former resident of the Mill Creek Community in Clay County.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Doris Martin Hall, Gainesboro; three brothers, Willie Hall of Hilham, John Hall, Pennsylvania, and Richard Hall, Cottontown; eight sisters, Opal Pennington and Retha Pennington, both of Celina, Bea Ellis, Hilham, Nancy Luceim, California, Bessie Dean, Ruby Pennington, and Jessie Shambaugh, all of Indianapolis, IN, and Sue Adams, Cookeville; an uncle, Charlie Rich; two aunts, Pat Rich and Beula McClain; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Louesther Qualls Coffey
Funeral services for Mrs. Louesther (Qualls) Coffey, 87, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, from the Rickman Chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating. Burial was in the Okolona cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Coffey, a homemaker, died Sunday, July 23, at Standing Stone Health Care.

Born August 7, 1912, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late John Garrett and Addie (Finley) Garrett.

She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Rickman. Survivors include a son, J.H. Qualls, Port Huron, MI; a grandson, Bruce Qualls, St. Clair, MI; and a granddaughter, Beverly Thompson of Rickman.

Ronnie Wayne Conner
Funeral services for Mr. Ronnie Wayne Conner, 38, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Spaw officiating. Burial was in the Clark cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Conner, a school bus driver and deputy sheriff for the Pickett County Government, died Sunday, July 16, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born February 14, 1962, in Overton County, he was the son of Nello and Lula (Clark) Conner of Monroe. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Conner, and grandparents, Robert and Inis Clark.

He was a life-long member of the Barnes Ridge Church of Christ.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Rosie (Brown) Conner, Monroe; three daughters, Jamie Conner, Jessica Conner, and Leesa Conner, all of Monroe; four sons, Cody Conner, R.J. Conner, Joseph Conner, and Christopher Brown, all of Monroe; grandparents, Elmo and Bertha Conner, Monroe; three sisters, Regina Reeder, Rosie Cales, and Briania Conner, all of Monroe; four brothers, Ricky Conner and David Conner, both of Monroe, Timothy Conner, Pall Mall, and Dwain Conner, Livington; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pallbearers were Bobby Stockton, Danna Dowdy, Cecil Huddleston, Larry Zachary, Bryan Franklin, Harlan Copeland, and Dennis Kennedy.

Donald E. Conatser
Funeral services for Mr. Donald E. Conatser, 74, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ziehmer officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Conatser died Monday, Dec. 17 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a retired engineer for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, a member of the First Christian Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII.

Born January 2, 1927, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Emmitt and Metta (Hill) Conatser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Ray.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Morris Guthrie, Owensboro, KY; two nieces, Janie Lilly, Ankorage, KY, and Rebecca Farr, Marietta, GA; and a nephew, Stephen Guthrie, Lexington, KY. Pallbearers were Danny Clark, James Bud Cantrell, Bobby Miller, Billy Conatser, Larry King, Allen Linder, Brent Linder, and Thedford Jenkins.

Ruby Colene (Hammock) Wilson
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Colene (Hammock) Wilson, 66, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, from the chapel of Rickman Funeral Home with Eddie Hargis officiating. Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Rickman Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson died Friday, Dec. 14 at Cookeville Regional Hospital.

Born May 22, 1935, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Martha J. (Neal) Hammock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Wilson; a son, Jefferey Wilson; four sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Claborn, Buffalo Valley, and Brenda Fournerat, Oklahoma; two sons, Phillip "Flip" Wilson, Allons, and Bruce Wilson, Cookeville; four sisters, Joyce Coffman, Birdie Presley, and Georgia Stewart, all of Rickman, and Vonda Cooper, Glasgow, KY; three brothers, Clyde Hammock, Texas, Ray Hammock, Allons, and Roy Hammock, Greenbrier; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Gary Walker, Donald Wilson, Jay Coffman, Kenny Johnson, Denny Jackson, and Brandon Wilmoth.

Vannie Lou Halfacre
Funeral services for Mrs. Vannie Lou Halfacre, 90, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Goggins officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Halfacre, a housewife, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at her home.

Born October 21, 1909, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late John and Hannah Jane (Rich) Poore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo B. Halfacre.

She was a member of the Livingston Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Leo Halfacre Jr., Hermitage and Johnny Halfacre, Livingston; two daughters, Peggy Sullivan and Patsy Coleman, both of Livingston; a sister, Lola Bush, Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchilren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jeff Halfacre, Mike Coleman, Chris Halfacre, Kevin Hawkins, Robby Robbins, Ted Sells, and Joe Pigg.

Caston David Shoemaker
Funeral services for Mr. Caston David Shoemaker, 78, of Anderson, IN, were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Allons with Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Speck Funeral Home of Livingston in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Shoemaker, a factory worker for RCA Manufacturer, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Community Hospital in Anderson, IN.

Born April 15, 1922, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Allen and Julie Smith Shoemaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laureen; and two brothers, Wilburn and J.B. Shoemaker.

He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ford Shoemaker, Anderson, IN; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob Shoemaker, and David and Dottie Shoemaker, all of Anderson, IN; three daughters and two sons-in-law; Kathy Collins, Gina and Stephen Paschal, all of Frankton, IN, and Lisa and Sean Shirley, Middletown, IN; seven grandchildren, Daniel Shoemaker, Bobbie Lynn Shoemaker, Brittney Shoemaker, Shannon Shoemaker, Kaley Shoemaker, Ashton Shirley and Saydee Shirley; three great grandchildren, Jimmy Shoemaker, Roy Shoemaker, and Drew Shoemaker; and a niece, Jean White, Milford, IL.

Bennie Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Bennie Johnson, 67, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston with Bobby Lee Taylor officiating. Burial was in Amonett cemetery in Pickett County with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, a farmer and lift operator for Livingston Saw Mill, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born February 9, 1933, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late William and Ada Taylor Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Bowman; a sister, Janice Hutchison; and two brothers, Welmer Johnson and Elmer Johnson.

He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include his wife, Marylyn Holt Johnson, Livingston; a son, Dwight Johnson, Smithville; two daughters, Denesa Jolley, Cookeville and Christina Johnson, Livingston; two brothers, Aaron Johnson, Rickman and Edd Johnson, Estil Springs; four sisters, Christine Franklin, Livingston, Robie Dean Pritchard, Murfreesboro, Alean Reeder, Huntsville, AL and Lura Wells, Hermitage; and five grandchildren.

Patty Allen
Funeral services for Mrs. Patty Allen, 51, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Clayton Lee, Jr. and Bro. Frank Davis officiating. Burial was in Smyrna cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Allen, a homemaker, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born January 25, 1949, in Murfreesboro, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bencie (Johnson) Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Duke; and three brothers, Billy Ray Moore, Wesley Moore, and Junior Moore.

She was a member of Hilham Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Allen, Cookeville; two daughters, Jennifer Allen, and Kim Allen, both of Cookeville; a sister, Reba Bledsoe, Indiana; two brothers, Alva Moore, and Stanley Moore, both of Indiana; and one granddaughter, Brooklynne Paige Allen, Cookeville.

Oakley Edison Upchurch
Funeral services for Mr. Oakley Edison Upchurch, 86, of Alpine, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. David Moore officiating. Burial was in the Upchurch Family cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Upchurch, a farmer, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born October 15, 1913, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Kernal Lee Upchurch and Cornelia (Beaty) Upchurch.

He was affiliated with the Miller's Chapel Church in the Ivyton Community.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Mae (Smith) Upchurch, Alpine; a daughter, Faye Hill, Alpine; two sons, James Lee Upchurch, Jamestown, and Harold Gentry Upchurch, Livingston; one brother, Melvin Upchurch, Alpine; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tim Emerton, Gary Culpepper, Danny Hill, Wayne McDonald, Mike Turner, and Ray Copeland.
