Betty Ruth Ledbetter
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Ruth Ledbetter, 68, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Pharris officiating. Burial was in Robbins cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ledbetter died Sunday, Oct. 20 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a factory worker and a member of First Baptist Church in Livingston.

Born December 15, 1933, in Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Proctor Edison and Opal (King) Reagan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Catheryn Lee; and four brothers, Bobby Reagan, Terry Reagan, James Reagan, and Charles Reagan.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Ledbetter, Livingston; a son, Ronald Ledbetter, Livingston; a daughter, Penny Haymon, Crossville; five brothers, Pat Reagan and Billy Reagan, both of Lafayette, Mike Reagan and Steve Reagan, both of McMinnville, and Ricky Reagan, Clarkrange; four sisters, Rebecca Thompson, Soddy Daisy, Barbara Ann Beaty, Hendersonville, Jean Reagan, Clarkrange, and Haley Grace Winningham, Livingston; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Donald Ledbetter, Douglas Ledbetter, John Cook, David Cook, Patrick Womack, and Patrick Reagan.

Randall T. "Ran" Smith
Masonic services for Mr. Randall T. "Ran" Smith, 64, of Monroe, were conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby White and Rev. Perry Clayton officiating. Burial was in Beaty cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 22 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a dairy farmer and a member of McDonald's Chapel United Methodist Church and West Fork Lodge 648. \

Born April 9, 1938, in Overton County, he was the son of Beatrice (Winton) Smith of Monroe and the late R.L. Smith.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Georgia (Padgett) Smith, Monroe; a son, Ronnie T. Smith, Monroe; two daughters, Debbie McMeans, Livingston, and Patricia Smith, Alpine; four brothers, Kendall Smith, Ronald Smith, and Larry Donald Smith, all of Monroe, and Richard Smith, Nashville; a sister, Donna C. Pierce, Lascassas; and six grandchildren, Samantha Copeland, Kendra Smith, Torrey Smith, Courtney Smith, Katelyn Smith, and Houston McMeans.

Pallbearers were Jeff Smith, Brent Smith, Johnny Hill, Junior Hill, Gary Melton, and Nathan Smith. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Nicholas Smith and Tyler Smith.

Mary Katherine "Kathy" (Keen) Upton
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Katherine "Kathy" (Keen) Upton, 55, of Livingston, were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Bernie Barton officiating. Burial was in McFerrin cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Upton died Monday, Oct. 21 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was an antique dealer and a member of the Church of Christ.

Born June 29, 1947, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Hazel Carr of Livingston and the late Carlie Keen. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy H. Upton; and a brother, Jackie Keen.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two daughters, Denise Dunn and Tabitha Green, both of Livingston; three sisters, Barbara Stevens, Nolensville, and Rose Key and Zelma Ferrell, both of the Timothy Community; her step-father, Talmadge Carr, Livingston; and six grandchildren, Scotty Key, Elizabeth Dunn, Zachary Dunn, Jonathan Green, Cassie Green, and Linzie Green.

Pallbearers were Jay Whitson, James Bilbrey, Jessica Conner, Scottie Key, David Green, Josh Mansell, and Brian Winningham.

Ruby E. Whittenburg
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby E. Whittenburg, 81, of Pickett County, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, from the chapel of Crestlawn Funeral Home in Byrdstown with Henry Colbert officiating. Burial was in Hicks cemetery in Pickett County with Crestlawn Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Whittenburg died Friday, Oct. 25 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Red Hill Church of Christ.

Born January 13, 1921, in Chanute, TN, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Rhoda (Evans) Beaty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank Whittenburg; a sister, Willie Davidson; and a brother, Holbert C. Beaty.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Faye and David Cope, Pall Mall, and Thelma and Larry Smith, Monroe; a son and daughter-in-law, Hurlen and RaeAnn Whittenburg, Pall Mall; a sister, Aleta Rich, Pall Mall; six grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Nicholas Smith, Tyler Smith, Gretta Bryant, Chuck Whittenburg, and Charlene Beaty; and three great grandchildren, Ashley Whittenburg, Spencer Mason, and Tiffany Beaty.

Pallbearers were Nathan Smith, Chuck Whittenburg, Allen Lee, Jody Evans, Stanley Cross, and Jack King. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Nicholas Smith and Tyler Smith.

Preston Willard "Billy" Wilson
Funeral services for Mr. Preston Willard "Billy" Wilson, 78, of Antioch, were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wilson died Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a disabled Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Baptist church, John B. Garrett Lodge, and Nashville and Al Menah Temple.

Born October 9, 1928, in Ft. Paine, AL, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth (Beasley) Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Wilson, Antioch; a son, Billy Keith Wilson, Smyrna; two brothers, Jerry Wilson and Garfield Wilson, both of Calhoun, GA; two sisters, Emma Mae Peace and Cora Belle, both of Calhoun; and two grandchildren, Ivy Wilson and Will Wilson.

Pallbearers were Bud Hinebaugh, Bill Zager, Roger Dial, Jackie Sanders, Adam McCaleb, and Mike Cooper.

Clyde McKinley Taylor
Funeral services for Mr. Clyde McKinley Taylor, 77, of Murfreesboro and formerly of Pickett County, were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2000, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in Nelson cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Taylor, a mechanic, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at his home.

Born August 3, 1922, in Pickett County, he was the son of Lola (Harvey) Taylor of Livingston and the late Hoy McKinley Taylor. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Jean (Stover) Taylor; a son, Kenneth Clyde Taylor; and a brother, Jessie Taylor.

He was a veteran.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three daughters, Burnice Ledford, Murfreesboro, Betty Crabtree, Livingston and Robbie Sells, Alpine; a son, Kenny Taylor, Monroe; a brother, O.D. Taylor, Livingston; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bryan Crabtree, Bryan Ledford, Daniel Sells, Chase Taylor, Scott Norrod, Danny Stover, Tony Hamilton and Michael Poston.

William Foster Page
Funeral services for Mr. William Foster Page, 78, of Celina, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 13, 1999, from Free Hill Church of Christ with Norman Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Free Hill cemetery with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Page, a maintenance worker for the Corps of Engineers, died Saturday, August 7, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born January 2, 1921, in Celina, he was the son of the late William Porter Page and Lockie Shield Page.

He was a member of Free Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Page, Celina; two sons, William Anthony Goatley, Louisville, KY, and Paul D. Page, Celina; a daughter, Wanda Jean Ellis, Warren, OH; two sisters, Mary Belle Ray, Louisville, KY, and Grace Williamson, Celina; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Loyd Bilbrey
Graveside services with military honors for Mr. Loyd Bilbrey, 53, of Dublin, VA, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at John L. Clark Memorial cemetery in the Stone Community of Jackson County Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiated the service. Anderson Funeral Home of Gainesboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bilbrey died Saturday, Jan. 12 at the VA Medical Center in Salem, VA. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Born January 23, 1948, in Jackson County, he was the son of Lula (Strode) Bilbrey of Whitleyville and the late Albert Clarence (Abb) Bilbrey. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Bilbrey; and a sister, Catherine Butler.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two brothers, Aaron Bilbrey and James Bilbrey, both of Whitleyville; four sisters, Joann Dailey, Livingston, Moline Howell, Gainesboro, Elizabeth Crawford, Lebanon, and Ozina Smith, Radford, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Lenora Ruby (Elmore) Witt
Funeral services for Mrs. Lenora Ruby (Elmore) Witt, 86, of Cookeville, were conducted a 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, from the chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home in Cookeville with Glen McDoniel and Gary Hampton officiating. Burial was in Crest Lawn cemetery with Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Witt died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a retired nurse and x-ray assistant at Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro and a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Cookeville.

Born April 5, 1915, in Crossville, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Myrtle (McCoy) Elmore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton P. Witt Sr.; a grandson, James Michael Smith; two sisters, Fifi Cantrell and Roxie Bridges; and three brothers, Lester Elmore, James Elmore, and Clyde Elmore.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Joe Penner, St. Petersburg, FL, Margaret and Dr. James L. Smith and Kathleen and Hugh Adams, all of Cookeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Alton P. Jr. and Sandra Witt, Canton, GA; three sisters, Maurine Campbell, Memphis, Elsie Brown, Rochester, NY, and Alice Harris, Dallas, TX; three brothers, George Elmore, Crossville, Charles Elmore, Dayton, OH, and Leo Elmore, Donna, TX; eight grandchildren, Jason Penner, David Penner, Chris Smith, Cindy Steine, Virginia (Ginny) Henson, Lisa Mabrey, Jonathan Witt, and Angela Witt; eight great grandchildren; and a special friend, Dorothy Gentry. Pallbearers were David Penner, Chris Smith, Jared Smith, Bryan Henson, Zach Henson, Jonathan Witt, and Mark Mabrey.

Sanford Tinch
Funeral services for Mr. Sanford Tinch, 78, of the Anderson Community near Monterey, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, from Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Whittaker oficiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery with Goff Funeral Home of Monterey in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Tinch died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a retired factory worker.

Born June 24, 1923, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Wiley and Lonnie Bell (Qualls) Tinch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Pearl (Short) Tinch; a sister, Effie Raines; and three brothers, Anderson Tinch, Herbert Tinch, and Frank Tinch.

Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty and Joe Parrott, Monterey, Linda and Larry Crisp, Crossville, and Carole and Jerry Ward, West Carrollton, OH; four granddaughters, Terri Keyes, April Gibson, Brandy Smith, and Rebecca Powell; five grandsons, Joey Parrott, David Parrott, Tommy Ward, Michael Ward, and Danny Ward; and seven great grandchildren.

Taylor Leigh Anne Thurman
Funeral services for Miss Taylor Leigh Anne Thurman, 7, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, from Spring City Central Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Campbell officiating. Burial was in Spring City Memorial Gardens with Vaughn Funeral Home of Spring City in charge of the arrangements. She was a former student at Spring City Elementary and, most recently, a second grader at Rickman Elementary.

Born March 31, 1994, she was the daughter of Jennifer (Taylor) Raiford of Cookeville, and Gregory Scott Thurman, of Spring City. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, James Muriel Thurman.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her stepfather, Ronnie D. Raiford, Cookeville; a brother, Justin Thurman; a stepbrother, Ronnie Raiford Jr.; maternal grandparents, Gale and Sandra Taylor, North Myrtle, SC; paternal grandparents, Ron and Martha (Thurman) Toney, Dayton; great grandparents, Henry and Edna Hill and Mrs. Maggie (Byrd) Thurman, all of Spring City, and Aldo Caparoso, Jeanette, PA; aunts and uncles, Larry and Janeane (Taylor) Ridings, North Myrtle, Jimmy "Muriel" Thurman, Spring City, David and Dana (Thurman) Woodard, Nashville, and Todd and April Thurman, Fairbanks, AK; cousins, Hayley Thurman and Garrett Thurman, both of Fairbanks, and Abigail Woodard and Maggie Woodard, both of Nashville; several great aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and a special friend, Taylor Cheek.

James Harrison South
Funeral services for Mr. James Harrison South, better known as Jim, 63, of Byrdstown, were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, from the chapel of Crestlawn Funeral Home with Aron Dillon, Rick Cross, and Randy Tompkins officiating. Burial was in Williams Chapel cemetery with Crestlawn Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. South died Sunday, Jan. 6 after an extensive battle with cancer. He was a businessman in Byrdstown for 18 years, co-founder of the Crestlawn Funeral Home in Byrdstown, a funeral director for 33 years, a charter member of the Byrdstown Jaycees, former serviceman representative for the American Red Cross, and was the first Overton County Ambulance Service Manager. He was a member of Red Hill Church of Christ, the Byrdstown Masonic Lodge #496, the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, and former member of the Upper Cumberland Funeral Directors Association. He was in the Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Intrepid.

Born Aug. 11, 1938, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Dennis and Dillie (Poore) South. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Wesley South; and a brother, Harold South.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Copeland) South, Byrdstown; two daughters, Tammy Cohanin, Louisiana, and Debra Clevenger, Smithville; a sister, Barbara Sue Gray, Byrdstown; three brothers, Clifford South and Malcolm South, both of Byrdstown, and Charles South, Smithville; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Clyde Abbott, Bethel Beaty, Arlan Nicholas, Gene Neal, Billy Don Harmon, and Odis Poore. Serving as honorary pallbearers were the employees of the first Overton County Ambulance Service.
