Funeral services for Mrs. Dapho Morgan, 88, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, from the chapel of Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Dewey Masters and Bro. Harlon Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Poplar Springs cemetery with Dyer Funeral Home of Cookeville in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Morgan died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Overton County Nursing Home.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Born January 4, 1913, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Sallie P. (Moody) Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Morgan; three brothers, Burch Lawson, Henry Lawson, and Roy Lawson; three sisters, Lura Lawson, Mary Jane Mabrey and Josie Wiley; and a grandson, Roy Robbins.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Ella Morgan, Cookeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Wilburn Robbins, Timothy Community, and Dorice and Donald Groce, Livingston; two sisters, Clura Hawkins, Poplar Springs Community, and Gertrude Smith, New Hope Community; five grandchildren, Terry Robbins, Morgan Robbins, Kelly Morgan, Nancy Hayes, and Shelley Savage; eight great grandchildren, Katie Morgan, Kristin Morgan, Heather Clark, Logan Herron, Taylor Savage, Paul Robbins, Nick Robbins, and Jo-El Hayes. Pallbearers were family and friends.

Cora (Heady) Gust
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora (Heady) Gust, 81, of Downers Grove, IL, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, from the chapel of Gainesboro Church of Christ with Rick Billingsley officiating. Burial was in the Rob Draper Memorial cemetery in the Stone Community of Jackson County with Anderson Funeral Home of Gainesboro in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gust died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Westmont Convalescent Center in Westmont, IL. She was a retired factory employee and a member of the Church of Christ.

Born April 30, 1919, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late John Eddie and Addie Mable (Thompson) Warden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, James Walter Heady and Edward Gust.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Kevin Gorski, Downers Grove; three sisters, Odell Crabtree, Livingston, Robbie Loftis, Cookeville, and Olene Brymer, Michigan; three grandchildren, Joseph Tirio, Michael Tirio, and Sabrina Brown; and three great grandchildren, Job Brown, Nicolas Tirio, and Natalie Tirio.

Magnolia E. Hicks
Funeral services for Mrs. Magnolia "Maggie" E. Hicks, 69, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, from the chapel of Crestlawn Funeral Home in Byrdstown, with Rick Cross officiating. Burial was in the Cope cemetery in Pickett County with Crestlawn Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hicks died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at her home. She worked at Sunset Dock for 20 years and was a member of the Oak Grove United Baptist Church.

Born February 26, 1932, in Claiborne County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Vesta (Smith) Evans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half-sisters, Bertha Thomas and Lori Webb; and a step-son, Raymond Hicks.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Earl Hicks, Monroe; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Randall and Linda Hicks, Ronnie Hicks, and Donnie and Kristie Hicks, all of Monroe, and Charles and Debbie Hicks, Livingston; three sisters, Viola Holt, Rebecca Lamance, both of Harriman, and Evelyn Williams, Maryville; four brothers, Curt Evans, Harriman, Jess Evans, Sam Evans, and Albert Evans, all of Kingston; two half-sisters, Zelma Settles, Harriman, and Thelma Bayless, Kingston; a half-brother, James Weaver, Kingston; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Robbie Lowery, Donnie Cranfield, John Cranfield, Chris Hicks, Chad Hicks, and Jason Hicks.

Terry J. James
Graveside services for Mr. Terry J. James, 49, of Gainesboro, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2001, in the Stacey cemetery in the Old Antioch Community of Jackson County with Howard Gossett officiating. Anderson Funeral Home of Gainesboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. James died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was a truck driver for Elk Mountain Construction Co. Inc. and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era.

Born March 3, 1952, in Michigan, he was the son of Junior James of Detroit, MI, and Evelyn (James) Johnson of Gainesboro.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two sons, Terry L. James, Bradenton, FL, and Mickey R. James, Gainesboro; three brothers, James Johnson, Gainesboro, Randy Johnson, Sparta, and Larry Johnson, Livingston; two sisters, Judy Blair and Pearl Hooten, both of Gainesboro; and two grandchildren.

Lewis S. Garrett
Funeral services for Mr. Lewis S. "Nimrod" Garrett, 68, of Allons, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Edwin Garrett officiating. Burial was in the Garrett cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Garrett died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was in the grocery business and of the Baptist faith.

Born April 8, 1932, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Lester and Lora (Cole) Garrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Lee Thompson; and five brothers, Coley Garrett, Monty Garrett, Clyde Garrett, Billy Garrett, and Joe Garrett.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and Don Arkon, Mt. Juliet, and Deloris Swindell, Sparta; a brother, Teddy Garrett, Livingston; two sisters, Geneva Maynord, Allons, and Nytarie Helton, California; and four grandchildren, Jaclyn Overstreet, Chris Arkon, Tol Swindell, and Hallie Swindell. Pallbearers were Ted Garrett, Joel Garrett, Michael Maynord, Russell Garrett, Bill Garrett, Garrett Jones and Darrell Thompson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Steve Thompson, Roy Dale Parrott, Jack Parrott, Joel Copeland, Butch Garrett, and Blaine Garrett.

Harshel Bowman
Funeral services for Mr. Harshel Bowman, 82, of Hanging Limb, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. J.B. Harris, Rev. Johnny Jones and Rev. Jerry Harris officiating. Burial was in the Hanging Limb cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bowman died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at his daughters home in Hanging Limb. He was a retired factory worker, farmer, of the Baptist faith, a member of the Livingston VFW, and a WWII Army Veteran.

Born August 3, 1918, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Grant and Nellie (Key) Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Lula (Phillips) Bowman, and Lou Ann Bowman; five brothers, Ivor Bowman, Clarence Bowman, Clayton Bowman, Cortes Bowman, and Marce Bowman.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail Harris, Hanging Limb; three sons, Bruce Bowman, Lavon Bowman, and Troy Bowman, all of Hanging Limb; two sisters, Hazel Norod and Roxie Walker, both of Hanging Limb; a brother, A.G. Bowman, Hanging Limb; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a special friend, Deb Guffy, Hanging Limb.

Andrew "ANDY" Jerome Bilbrey
Funeral services for Mr. Andrew "Andy" Jerome Bilbrey, 25, of Livingston, were conducted at 4 p.m Saturday, April 7, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Gore and Rev. Dow Allen officiating. Burial was in the Burris cemetery in Jackson County with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bilbrey died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a student.

Born November 24, 1975, in Putnam County, he was the son of Carl Douglas and Reda (Knight) Bilbrey of Livingston.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandparents, Frank W. and Mabel Bilbrey, Livingston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry David and Carol Ann Allen, Dodson Branch Community, and Danny Edward and Sharon Allen, Livingston; a sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and Brett Gibbons, Livingston; three nephews, Josh Allen, Chris Allen, and Brandon Allen; three nieces, Jessica Allen, Britney Allen, and Haleigh Gibbons; and an aunt, Annie Taylor, Livingston. Pallbearers were Dusty Short, Bub Stockton, Dale Day, Sammie Bilbrey, Scott Cantrell, and Bret Gibbons.

Jessie Aaron "Ace" Gore
Funeral services for Mr. Jessie Aaron "Ace" Gore, 50, of the Vines Ridge Community, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Arnold Murphy and Rev. Robbie Miller officiating. Burial was in the Phillips cemetery in Hanging Limb with full military honors. Goff Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gore died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a truck driver and a Vietnam Army veteran.

Born October 1, 1950, in Livingston, he was the son of the late Doyle and Sarah Melinda (Judd) Gore.

Survivors include his wife, Faye (Howard) Gore, Vines Ridge Community; two daughters, Angie Christensen, Cookeville, and Joanie Raines, Vines Ridge Community; two sons, Ronnie Gore, Cookeville, and Tony Miller, Vines Ridge Community; two sisters, Denise White, Livingston, and Darlene Gore, Cookeville; two brothers, Jimmy Gore, Livingston, and Darrell Gore, Dayton, OH; and 10 grandchildren.

Cleo West
Funeral services for Ms. Cleo West, 76, of Livingston were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2000, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Bro. H.S. Brown officiating. Burial was in the New Hope cemetery in the New Hope Community of Jackson County with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. West, a retired factory worker, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born April 23, 1924, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late George Buford and Sarah Avo Stalliongs West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton A. West; and a sister, Abby Jewell West.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a brother, Clinton West, Cookeville; two sisters, Clide Bull and Catherine West, both of Hilham; a nephew, George Steven West, Michigan; and five nieces, Brenda Massa, Phyllis Ostrowski, Wanda Fritch, and Glenda Droney, all of Michigan, and Sarah Webb of Cookeville.

Harris Taylor
Funeral services for Mr. C. Harris Taylor, 84, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville with Dr. Charles McCaskey and Dr. Wesley Henry officiating. Burial was in the Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Cookeville with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Taylor, a retired farmer, died Thursday, July 27, in Murfreesboro.

Born June 30, 1916, in Overton County, he was the son of the late John B. and Lucinda Jane (Booher) Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith (Breeding) Taylor; six brothers, Arthur Taylor, Hassell Taylor, Cedric Taylor, Otis Taylor, Rector Taylor, and Cordine Taylor; and four sisters, Lorina Huddleston, Larchie Smith, Trana Deering, and Argolda Knox.

He was a member and elder of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville. He was also the first Master Soil Conservation Farmer in Putnam County.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lucinda Rose (Taylor) and Dr. James Wesley Lea, Murfreesboro; a brother, John C. Taylor, Nashville; a sister, Leora Kovac, Inverness, FL; and two grandchildren, James Taylor Lea, Urbana, IL, and Lucinda Laurel Lea, Berkeley, CA.

Pallbearers were Demus Deering, Ed Huddleston, Logan Groth, Owen Sparks, Armon Hitchcock, Gary Alspaugh, Chris Breeding, Ed Breeding, Tom Martin, Phil Hitchcock, and Jim Hitchcock. Honorary pallbearers were the Elders of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville.

Pauline Stewart
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Stewart, 83, of Cookeville and formerly of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in the Ruth Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Stewart, a housewife, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born November 3, 1916, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Tinnie (Witeher) Terry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Stewart; and a son, Thomas Stewart.

She was a member of the Algood First Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Grady Stewart Jr., Hardy Stewart, and Donnie Stewart, all of Cookeville; a daughter, Brenda Hancock, Lynchburg, VA; two brothers, James Terry and Fred Terry, both of Hendersonville; three sisters, Luella Kritner, Cullam, AL, Lorene Case and Gladys Woodard, both of Henderson-ville; 13 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steven Stewart, Cody King, Eddie Frady, Danny Wenger, Johnathan Stewart, and Timmy Stewart.

Clara Deane (Looper) Qualls
Graveside services for Mrs. Clara Deane (Looper) Qualls, 85, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2000, at the Good Hope cemetery with Dr. Joe Stacker officiating. Woodlawn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Qualls, a retired school teacher, died Monday, July 31, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Qualls. She graduated from Livingston Academy and attended Milligan College. She taught school until she married and started her family. She lived in Albany, KY until she retired to the Blakeford Retirement Center in Nashville. She was a member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam L. and Marti Qualls, Atlanta, GA, and Robert E. and Judith Qualls, Philadelphia, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Susie (Qualls) and Mike Pennington, Austin, TX; two sisters, Capitola Looper and Joanna Stockton; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Pennington, Richard Qualls, Douglas Qualls, David Qualls, Mark Qualls, and Steven Pennington.
