LASSIE ALLEN PRYOR

Funeral services for Mrs. Lassie Allen Pryor, 74, of the Burristown Community of Jackson County, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial was in Lynn cemetery in the Burristown Community with Bro. H.S. Brown and Bro. Perry Allen officiating.

Mrs. Pryor died Monday, Dec. 16 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Assembly of God church.

Born September 5, 1928, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Ocie C. and Hattie (Haney) Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dimple Coffman; and three brothers, Leonard Allen, Estel Allen, and M.J. Allen.

Survivors include her husband, Harse Pryor of the Burristown Community; a son, Roger A. Pryor of Gainesboro; two brothers, Clarence Allen and Clifton Allen, both of Hilham; a sister, Wiltha Coffman of Hilham; two grandchildren, Charlotte Pryor and Ronnie Pryor, both of Gainesboro; and a great grandchild, Shaun Pryor.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lassie Pryor family by contacting Anderson Funeral Home.

Pansy E. Arms
Funeral services for Mrs. Pansy E. Arms, 94, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Goggins officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Arms died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Overton County Nursing Home. She was a housewife and a member of the Livingston Church of Christ.

Born January 29, 1907, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Wheeler and Cynthia (Guthrie) Gentle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Arms, and a son, Bill Arms.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Jean Mitchell, Livingston, Betty Jo Underwood, Cookeville, and Peggy Seagraves, Florida; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Dicky Mitchell, David Mitchell, William Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Chuck Mitchell, and Chris Ayers.

Henry Paul Glasscock
Funeral services for Mr. Henry Paul Glasscock, 83, of Allons, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Halliburton officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Glasscock died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at the Overton County Nursing Home. He was a car salesman, horse farmer and a member of the Allons Baptist Church.

Born January 3, 1918, in Overton County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Novie Howard Maynord Glasscock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Onzie Glasscock, Homer Glasscock, John Glasscock, Howard Glasscock, and Leslie Glasscock; and two sisters, Dessie Reese and Lena Chilton.

Survivors include his wife, Maurine (Hunter) Glasscock, Allons; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Janie Glasscock, Livingston; three daughters and two son-in-laws, June and L.G. Puckett III, and Patsy Glasscock, all of Livingston, and Betty and Masato Kanda, Oletha, KA; a sister, Myrtle Waites, Livingston; a sister-in-law, Clara Glasscock, Livingston; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Charles Langford, Dennis Barsness, Jack Glasscock, Roger Phillips, Randall Bilbrey, and Hugh L. Ogletree.

Serving as honorary pallbearer was Adam Mansell.

John Gilbert Elder
Funeral services for Mr. John Gilbert Elder, 77, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, from the chapel of Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Pruitt, Bro. Randy Tompkins, and Bro. Dayton Garrett officiating. Burial was in the Lovelady-Sims cemetery with Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Elder died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Lovelady Christian Church.

Born December 18, 1923, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late John and Sara (Hassler) Elder.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine (Martin) Elder, Byrdstown; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Diane Elder, Byrdstown; two daughters, Cheryl Elder, Nashville, and Gwen Smith, Livingston; two sisters, Mildred Davidson and Lucille Elder, both of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Letisha Brewington, Larissa Buck, Sean Smith, and Heath Elder; and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tim Martin, Teddy Martin, Roger Elder, Lloyd Ray Hassler, Ernie Hassler, and John Capps.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ivan Rike, Harold Kautz, John Harlan, Frazier Sells, Kenny Little, Hugh Elder, Alf Taylor, Bill Groce, Joe Groce, and Benton Lee.

Effie Mae Key
Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Mae Key, 94, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, from Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. A.J. Looper and Rev. Nolan Cantrell officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Rickman with the Rickman Chapel of Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Key died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Standing Stone Health Care Center in Monterey. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.

Born September 10, 1906, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late John and Fannie (Parrigan) Webb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Key; a son, John Key; a sister, Mattie Eldridge; and two brothers, Clyde Webb and Washington Webb.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Joe and Gwen Key, David and Ruby Key, and Odean Key, all of the Pleasant Ridge Community; a brother, Jim Webb, Pleasant Ridge Community; and two sisters, Opal Webb, Monterey, and Ona Wilson, Cedar Chapel Community; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Garnett W. Johnson Sr.
Graveside services for Mr. Garnett W. Johnson Sr., 76, of Clinton, TN, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Holley-Gambrell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. He was retired from the Oak Ridge Nuclear Plant in Oak Ridge, and was affiliated with the Black Oak Baptist Church.

Born May 28, 1924, in Clinton, he was the son of the late Walter and Iva Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Johnson and Cecil Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Johnson, Clinton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Garnett Johnson Jr. and Rickey and Lisa Johnson, all of Clinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Bennie Brown, Texas, and Debbie and Kenneth Keck, Oak Ridge; five brothers; four sisters; and four grandchildren.

Jewel Dean "Judy" Johnson
Funeral services for Mrs. Jewel Dean "Judy" Johnson, 58, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Arnold Murphy officiating. Burial was in the Phillips cemetery in Hanging Limb with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was an employee of Russell Stover Candies and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.

Born October 9, 1942, in Fentress County, she was the daughter of the late Mikey Fred Wilson and Mary Idella (Horton) Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Jenkins; and two brothers, Arthur Dee Wilson and Earnest Edward Wilson.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie Lewis, Cookeville; a sister, Dimple Owens, Crawford; a brother, Billy Wilson, Crawford; and one grandson, Ronnie Eugene Lewis II, Cullman, AL.

George Jones
Funeral service for Mr. George Jones, 80, of Lebanon, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, from the chapel of Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon with Eld. Hilman Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Smyrna cemetery in Pickett County with Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Jones died Thursday, May 2, 2001, at Cedars Health Care. He was a retired saw mill worker and of the Baptist faith.

Born December 17, 1920, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Eli and Nettie (Reagan) Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary White; and three brothers, Royce Jones, James Jones, and E.B. Jones. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Eld. Edgar Leon White, Lebanon; a nephew, Randall "Rudy" White, Lebanon; a great niece, Leah Elizabeth White, Lebanon; and a great nephew, Lee Elliott White, Lebanon.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Carolyn Bilbrey
Graveside services and burial for Mrs. Carolyn Bilbrey, 59, of Dalton, GA, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Harris Chapel cemetery with Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bilbrey died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA. She was a food server in the food service industry.

Born July 19, 1941, in Knoxville, she was the daughter of Frank Cox of Toledo, OH, and the late Lucille (Hendren) Cox.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include her husband, Mack Bilbrey, Dalton, GA; four sons, Dale Bilbrey, Bristol, Marvin Ray Huff, Keith Bilbrey, and Craig Bilbrey, all of Dalton, GA; two daughters, Kimberly Dill and Cheryl Cochran, both of Dalton, GA; six brothers, William Inman, Chattsworth, GA, Lonnie Wayne Inman and Robert Inman, both of Dalton, GA, Jack Inman, Jacksonville, FL, and Bob Cox and Jeff Cox, both of Toledo, OH; three sisters, Margaret Beltran, Dalton, GA, Faye Sharpe, Lake City, and Betty Byrd, Pulaski; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Gary Phipps, David Bilbrey, Charles Ethridge, Lee Ethridge, James Cochran, and Keith Bilbrey.

Billy R. Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Billy R. Smith, 63, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, from Bloomington Christian Church in Byrdstown with Jesse Ireton and Mickey Jolley officiating. Burial was in Rough Shod Hollow with Brown Funeral Chapel of Indiana in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 21 at his home after a brief illness. He lived in New Castle, IN, and the surrounding area for several years, including Hagerstown and Spiceland. He returned to Byrdstown in 1989, following his retirement from Dana Corporation. He owned Smith Land Development Corporation and developed Rough Shod Hollow, a residential community near Dale Hollow Lake that includes many vacation homeowners from Ohio and Indiana. He was active in Perfect Circle Saddle Club for a number of years in Indiana and led wagon trains on several occasions to Brown County, IN. He was an avid cowboy, hosting rodeos and hog roasts in Indiana and Byrdstown. He was a member of New Castle Church of Christ and UAW Local 370.

Born June 13, 1939, in Byrdstown, he was the son of Virginia Evelyn (Amonett) Smith of New Castle and the late O.B. Smith.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Cathy Chamberlin, Byrdstown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey B. and Kathy Smith, Port Orange, FL, and Gregory B. and Lori Smith, Byrdstown; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela J. and Duane Ford, Arrington; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald E. and Nancy Smith, Spiceland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Archic Catron, Cookeville, and Beverly and Duane Matthews, New Castle; in-laws, Al and Arlene Chamberlin, Spiceland; a sister-in-law and her spouse, Cindy and Don Crandall, Spiceland; seven grandchildren, Nicole and Jim Parsons, Edgewater, FL, Kasey Smith, Port Orange, Wesley Ford, Amber Ford, and Katelin Ford, all of Arrington, and Brittnei Smith and Emily Smith, both of Byrdstown; a great grandson. Jalen Parsons, Edgewater; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Scott Pfenninger, David Pfenninger, Brian Pfenninger, Andy Smith, Lee Marcum, Jeff Crandall, and Kevin Crandall. Serving as honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.

Melvin Eugene Bumbalough
Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Eugene Bumbalough, 48, of Cookeville, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, from the chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville with Bro. Richard Harris officiating. Burial will be in Bohannon cemetery with Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bumbalough died Monday, Aug. 26 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a self-employed landscaper.

Born April 17, 1954, in White County, he was the son of the late Tom Otis and Braskie Mae (Randolph) Bumbalough. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilene Bumbalough; and a brother, Clifton Bumbalough.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla (Cargile) Bumbalough, Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Blake Philpot, Rickman; two sons, Scotty Bumbalough and Lonnie Bumbalough, both of Cookeville; three sisters, Mildred Dyer and Adell Grogan, both of Cookeville, and Alene Laurent, Sparta; four brothers, Cledaus Bumbalough, Sparta, Glen Bumbalough, White Bluff, Frankie Bumbalough, Franklin, and Steve Bumbalough, Cookeville; and a granddaughter, Ashley Philpot. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Linnie Elizabeth (Swift) Fleming
Funeral services for Mrs. Linnie Elizabeth (Swift) Fleming, 89, of Allons, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, from Allons Church of Christ with Bro. A.J. Cox and Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Burial was in Fleming Family cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Fleming died Thursday, Aug. 22. A retired LPN, she began her nursing career at Lady Ann Hospital in 1963. She was a member of Allons Church of Christ.

Born November 8, 1912, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Verd and Callie (Hunter) Swift. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fowler A. Fleming; two sons, James Walter Fleming and Billy Frank Fleming; a brother, Lester Swift; a sister, Lola McAlpin; and a son-in-law, George Simpson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mary Frances Fleming, Allons; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Ethel and Allon White, Livingston, Virginia Simpson, Cookeville, Sadie Simpson, Allons, and Sarah and David Wyatt, Crossville; a sister, Lona Christian, Cookeville; a sister-in-law, Norman Swift, Allons; 9 grandchildren, Donna Looper, Anita Burnett, Karen Baltimore, Bud Simpson, George Simpson II, Clark Simpson, Donald Lewis Smith, Travis Wyatt, and Phillip Wyatt; and 17 great grandchildren, Russ Robbins, Romona Robbins, David Burnett, Westley Burnett, Dana Byrd, Jenna Baltimore, Kasey Baltimore, Allie Baltimore, Jacie Baltimore, Oliva Combs, Addison Simpson, Molly Jo Simpson, Elisha Smith, Derek Smith, Emily Staggs, Gary Wyatt, and Emory Wyatt.

Pallbearers were Bud Simpson, George Simpson II, Clark Simpson, Donald Lewis Smith, Travis Wyatt, and Phillip Wyatt. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Russ Robbins, David Burnett, Westley Burnett, and Derek Smith.
