Carl Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Carl Smith, 83, of Monroe, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Dave Smith cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Born March 1, 1917, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Dave and Sally (McDonald) Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Smith, Monroe; a son, Jerry Smith, Allons; and a brother, Horace Smith, Monroe.

Marguerite Calhoun Grimes
Funeral services for Mrs. Marguerite Calhoun Grimes, 78, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Halliburton officiating. Burial was in Old Union cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grimes died Thursday, January 25 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

She was a retired secretary for the Methodist Board of Education and a member of West Nashville United Methodist Church.

Born September 4, 1922, in Sugar Grove, VA, she was the daughter of the late Roy W. and Okie (Johnson) Calhoun. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edward Grimes.

Survivors include two sons, Pat Grimes, Livingston, and Larry Grimes, Nashville; two granddaughters, Kelly Grimes and Melissa Grimes, both of Livingston; and a sister, Katherine Higdon, Texas.

Pallbearers were Tommy Danner, Rick Danner, Willie D. Swallows, Rick Moles, James Cobble, and Edgar Long.

Arnold Key
Funeral services for Mr. Arnold Key, 87, of Dayton, OH, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Roy Nash officiating. Burial was in the Muddy Pond cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Key died Thursday, January 25, 2001, at Mercy Siena Woods Nursing Home in Dayton, OH.

He was a retired factory worker from the Kuhn Brothers Foundry in Dayton, OH, and affiliated with the Wrightview Nazarene Church in Fairborn, OH.

Born October 9, 1913 in Martha Washington, TN, he was the son of the late Billy and Ida (Todd) Key. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Padgett Key, and a daughter, Diana Kay Livingston.

Surviviors include two daughters, Jeannette Key, Dayton, OH, and Wanda Lynn Noble, Midlothian, VA; four sons, Lowell Key, Beaver Creek, OH, Larry Key, Philip Key, and Ralph Key, all of Dayton, OH; four sisters, Ethel Yearly and Lois Roberts, both of Wartburg, Golda Stepp, Martha Washington Community, TN, Evelyn Henry, Pikeville; a brother, Coy Key, Dayton, OH; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Gydney Bilbrey Winningham
Funeral services for Mrs. Sydney Bilbrey Winningham, 95, of Livingston, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Halliburton officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Winningham died Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Overton County Nursing Home. She was a retired teacher from the Overton County School System, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, Livingston Eastern Star, Overton County Retired Teachers Association, and Livingston Civic and Garden Club.

Born March 22, 1906, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late S.J. and Margaret Lansden Bilbrey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gradis F. Winningham; and two sisters, Mable Estes and Maude Mathis.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Winningham and David and Kathy Winningham, all of Livingston; two grandsons, William Winningham and Scott Winningham; and a granddaughter, Katie Winningham.

Pallbearers will be James Bilbrey, Robert Chilton, Bill Winningham, David Winningham, William Winningham, and Scott Winningham. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cary Carlock, Charles Franklin, Richard Winton, Dr. W.G. Quarles Jr., Alan Atnip, Raleigh Needham, members of the Overton County Retired Teachers Association, and members of the Eastern Star.

Jamie Paul Vaughn
Funeral services for Mr. Jamie Paul Vaughn, 21, of Allons, were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Hargis officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery in Alpine with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Vaughn died Monday, Dec. 10 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a member of the Livingston Academy Class of 1999, football manager 1995-1999, and attended Christ Church Presbyterian in Alpine.

Born April 4, 1980, in Overton County, he was the son of Bobby Glen Vaughn of Allons and Barbara K. (Smith) Vaughn of Alpine. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Rachel Brymer.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandmother, Hazel Smith, Alpine; a brother, Kevin Vaughn, Hilham; a sister, Robin Vaughn, Algood, and two nieces, Lindsey Rose and Rachel Rose.

Pallbearers were Chris Nevins, Randy Ford, Jeremy Mansell, Mack Peterman, Tony Coffee, and Jessie Stevens.

Roger Ale Stewart Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Roger Ale Stewart Sr., 46, of Rickman, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Michael Thomen officiating. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Stewart died Friday, Dec. 14 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

He was a die machinist and was born March 17, 1955, in Harlan, KY.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Stewart, Rickman; a son, Roger Ale "R.J." Stewart Jr., Rickman; a daughter, Savanah Justina Stewart, Rickman; three sisters, Max, Judy, and Junie; a brother, Fred; several cousins, including Joann and WeWe, and Fredie Joe and Donna; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Woodrow Ellis and Lily Ellis; and sisters-in-law, Barbara, Kay, and Pattie.

Micheal Ray Norris
Funeral services for Mr. Micheal Ray Norris, 33, of Alpine, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Nolen Cantrell officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Norris died Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a heavy equipment operator, served in the National Guard Unit in Livingston, and was an avid sportsman.

Born December 13, 1967, in Overton County, he was the son of Linda (Walker) Norris of Livingston and the late Larry Ray Norris. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, James C. and Jewel Norris.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Jennifer (Bohannon) Norris, Alpine; two daughters, Shelby Nicole Norris and Brittany Lea King, both of Alpine; a stepmother, Janie L. (Sells) Norris, Livingston; grandparents, Charles and Lucille Linder, Livingston; two sisters, Karen M. Norris and Kellie G. Norris, both of Livingston; a stepbrother, Kyle Sells, Livingston; two nieces, Megan Rose Talley and Destani Mechelle Potter; and a nephew, Austin Levi Norris.

Pallbearers were Jerry Bruce, Ronnie Gore, Kip Smith, Johnny Mansell, Scotty Wright, and Rex King. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Danny Ferrell, Mark Linder, and Bill Thornton.

Azell McDonald
Funeral services for Mrs. Azell McDonald, 76, of Alpine, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Dr. David Moore officiating. Burial was in McDonald cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McDonald died Saturday, Dec. 15 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a housewife and a member of Millers Chapel Christian Church.

Born October 4, 1925, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Volley and Mary (Holt) Sells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther S. McDonald; a son, Randell McDonald; three sisters, Bertha Kostelnik, Clemetine Allred, and Ethel Johnson; and three brothers, Clifford Sells, Clifton Sells, and Kenneth Sells.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne McDonald, Alpine, and Robert McDonald, Livingston; a daughter, Brenda Young, Monroe; two brothers, Allen Sells and George Sells, both of Alpine; a sister, Ruth Cyrus, Livingston; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Scott McDonald, Greg McDonald, Jeremy McDonald, Eric Young, Jason Young, Josh Young, Jonathan McDonald, and Derek McDonald.

Liza McCloud
Funeral services for Mrs. Liza McCloud, 77, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, from Sand Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Dewitt Sampley officiating. Burial was in Sand Springs Memorial Gardens with Goff Funeral Home of Monterey in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McCloud died Wednesday, Dec. 12 at her home. She was a homemaker and attended the Sand Springs Baptist Church.

Born October 2, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ollie Bell (Miller) Stephens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. McCloud; a son, Charles McCloud; a brother, Jeff Stephens; a half sister, Rinda Murphy; and four half brothers, Wallace Stephens, Sam Stephens, J.P. Stephens, and Billy Paul Stephens.

Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Phillips, Sparta, and Joyce Pilkington, Trenton, GA; four sons, Larry McCloud and James McCloud, both of Cookeville, and Gary McCloud and Donald McCloud, both of Monterey; two sisters, Anna Coffee, Livingston, and Erma McCowan, Clarkrange; three brothers, George Stephens Jr., and Whaler Stephens, both of Crossville, and Issac Stephens, Cookville; and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

James Masters
Funeral services for Mr. James Masters, 83, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Warren officiating. Burial was in Fiske cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Masters died Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Overton County Nursing Home. He was a farmer, a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, and a member of the Hilham Church of Christ.

Born September 6, 1918, in Overton County, he was the son of the late James Samuel and Flora Jane (Fleming) Masters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jewell Masters and Golda Olgetree; and three brothers, Bill Masters, Roy Masters, and Ben Masters.

Survivors include his wife, Meekle Masters, Livingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Melissa Masters, Rickman; two sisters, Gertie Lee Masters and Eileen Evans, both of Columbia; and three grandchildren, Hannah Masters, Rachel Masters, and Tucker Masters.

Pallbearers were Tommy Smith, Billy Burchett, Jack McCormick, Ed Fleming, Payton Ogletree, and Harold Gore.

Fernande Laplante
Memorial services for Mrs. Fernande Laplante, 73, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, from Faith Outreach Worship Center in Rickman with Bro. Ferrel Looper officiating. Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home of Cookeville was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Laplante died Thursday, Dec. 13 at her home. She was a retired factory worker and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville.

Born January 28, 1928, in Rumford, ME, she was the daughter of the late Marcel and Rose Leterneau St. Pierre. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Laplante.

Survivors include her husband, Reynald Laplante, Livingston; a son, Robert Laplante, Lewiston, ME; three daughters, Joline Charest, Rickman, Diane Keller, Chapel Hill, NC, and Linda Royse, Celina; a sister, Mary Jane Bisson, Maine; and two grandchildren, Jason Laplante, Maine, and Nathan Royse, Celina.

Elmo Ison
Funeral services for Mr. Elmo Ison, 59, of Rickman, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Johnson and Rev. Daniel Jackson officiating. Burial was in Sam Flatt cemetery in Jackson County with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ison died Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born February 18, 1942, in Michigan, he was the son of the late Grandville and Gracie Gertrude (Maggard) Ison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Jean Chandler and Louise Fields; and two brothers, Claude Ison and Keiter Ison.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Fetterolf, Rickman; three daughters, Kimberley Moore, Rickman, and Michelle Farley and Sandra Harper, both of Cookeville; two sisters, Mable Woodward and Sue McFall, both of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Kroenert, Terry Kroenert, James Jackson, Stanley Fetterolf, David Fetterolf, and Wayne Fetterolf.
