Louester M. Ledbetter
Funeral services for Mrs. Louester M. Ledbetter, 95, of Alpine, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ledbetter died Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a housewife and a member of the Christ Church Presbyterian.

Born October 22, 1906, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Emmet and Flora Catherine (Bilbrey) Winton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Ledbetter; two sisters, Lestie Young and Hallie Vaughn; and two brothers, Robert Winton and Billie Winton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Sue Ledbetter, Battle Creek, MI; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Leck Hull, Alpine; three brothers, Glen Winton, Sparta, and Carlos Winton and Bethel Winton, both of Cookeville; two sisters, Carrie Norris, Cookeville, and Ruth Mitchell, Sparta; eight grandchildren; a special grandchild, Terry Hull; and 10 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Wayne Winton, Emit Winton, Lewis Collins, David Ledbetter, Terry Hull, and Robert Ledbetter.

Louise M. Herrick
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise M. Herrick, 89, of Montrose, IA, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA, with Father Gerald Hoenig officiating. Burial was in the Montrose cemetery with Vigen Memorial Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Herrick died Wednesday, Jan. 2 at her home. She was a leader of the Montrose Busy Bees 4-H Club for 20 years. After ending her service as a 4-H leader, she continued her involvement with the Lee County Fair by volunteering her time in the Art Hall as a superintendent and by creating decorative exhibits displayed each year. She became active with the Montrose Senior Citizens, holding various offices including, president and vice president. Her most well known contribution came in the form of the floats she created for the Montrose Watermelon Festival and other local parades. She was a charter member of the Montrose Township Historical Society, which was instrumental in renovating the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Montrose, which was later placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1994, she was the recipient of the Heritage Award from the Montrose Watermelon Festival Committee for her years of contributions to the festival. The Lee County Sesquicentennial Committee also recognized her by asking her to create the county quilt block for the Iowa Sesquicentennial Quilt.

Born December 31, 1912, in Green Bay Bottoms, Washington Township, Lee County, IA, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Wenke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion E. Herrick; an infant daughter, Katherine Marie Herrick; an infant son; two infant grandchildren, Gabrielle Herrick and Keith Mullins; four brothers, John Wenke Jr., Ferd Wenke, Bernard Wenke, and Henry Wenke; and a sister, Anna Rex.

Survivors include three daughters, two sons-in-law, and a future son-in-law, Doris Ann and Tom Mullins, Livingston, Christal and Jim Lewiston, Montrose, and Melva Webb and fiance, Bob Nunnery, Byrdstown; a son and a daughter-in-law, Everett and Debra Herrick, Ft. Madison, IA; two brothers, Herman Wenke, Ft. Madison, IA, and Bill Wenke, Keosauqua, IA; two sisters, Mary Lewis, Colona, IL, and Elizabeth OÕConnor, Elvaston, IL; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Roy A. Gore
Funeral services for Mr. Roy A. Gore, 85, of Monroe, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Harris officiating. Burial was in Freedonia cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gore died Friday, Dec. 28 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a logger and of the Pentecostal faith.

Born February 23, 1916, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Franklin Lafayette and Maggie (Copeland) Gore.

Survivors include two brothers, Bernard Gore, Anderson, IN, and Bob Gore, Rickman; three sisters, Cora Daniels, Monroe, Louise Meredith, Rickman, and Opal Dishman, Alexandria, IN; a niece and nephew with whom he made his home, Rita, Gary and Kadesha McDonald; and several other nieces and nephews.

Veachel Flowers
Funeral services for Mrs. Veachel Flowers, 90, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, from the chapel of Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Jones officiating. Burial was in Smyrna cemetery in Byrdstown with Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Flowers died Friday, Jan. 4 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a housewife.

Born August 25, 1911, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late William and Ida (Pierce) Shewmake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Flowers; a son, Hollis Flowers; a brother, Hershel Shewmake; and a sister Ethel Flowers.

Survivors include three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Annie V. Dillon
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie V. Dillon, 86, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina. Burial was in Maxwell Chapel cemetery with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Dillon died Thursday, Jan. 3 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and affiliated with Maxwell First Church of God.

Born July 18, 1915, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Laura Dillon.

Survivors include two sons, Elmo Crabtree, Indianapolis, IN, and Leo Crabtree, Hilham; two daughters, Dapho Mushrush and Avo Conner, both of Livingston; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Paul Edward Bowers
Mr. Paul Edward Bowers, 67, of Livingston, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at his home. He was a masonary worker.

Born Aug. 27, 1934, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Gennie and Sylvia (Allred) Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joe Bowers.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny Bowers, Rickman, and Freddy Coffey, Smyrna; three daughters, Anita Flowers, Algood, Norma Bowers, Livingston, and Sandra Bowers, Rickman; two brothers, Cecil Bowers and Lonnie Bowers, both of the Independence Community; three sisters, Jo Nelda Sells, Independence Community, Brenda Morrow and Anna Oma Davis, both of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. No services have been planned at this time. The family has honored Mr. BowersÕ request with cremation. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pearl Ann Daniels
Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Ann Daniels, 100, of Monroe, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Tompkins officiating. Burial was in Cope cemetery in Pickett County with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Daniels died Tuesday, Jan. 1 at her home. She was a housewife and a member of the Methodist church.

Born December 29, 1901, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary (Short) Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Daniels; and four sons, Joe Daniels, Tommie Daniels, Gene Daniels, and Edward "Dick" Daniels.

Survivors include a son, Jackie Daniels, Monroe; six daughters, Laura Mae Miller, Crossville, Alice Walker, Huntsville, AL, Elsie Claudine Melton, Cookeville, Billie Riley, Monroe, Patsy Ann Corns, Lexington, KY, and Chee Chee Bowery, Richmond, IN; a sister, Dollie Reagan, Livingston; 26 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Michael Daniels, Mickey Daniels, Joey Daniels, Timothy Childers, Jimmy Sells Jr., and Eric Riley, her grandsons and great grandsons.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Josh Sells and Randy Daniels.

James Bruce Padgett
Funeral services for Mr. James Bruce Padgett, 66, of the Cedar Chapel Community in Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Padgett officiating. Burial was in the Sylvester Robbins cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Padgett died Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at his home. He was a auto factory worker, farmer, and of the Baptist faith.

Born March 11, 1935, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Clifford Clay and Gladys Eula (Hurst) Padgett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Brice Padgett and Benny Padgett.

Survivors include three sons, Clay Padgett and Kevin Padgett, both of Cookeville, and James Bruce Padgett Sr., Florida; a daughter, Jama Laurel Maynord, Cookeville; three brothers, Freeman Padgett, Albany, KY, Buryl Padgett, Livingston, and Larry Hurst, Monticello, KY; two sisters, Sherry Hurley and Faye Earley, both of Akron, OH; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Miller, Robbie Robbins, Adam Robbins, Terry Grasty, Justin Maxwell, Timothy Padgett, and Timmy Padgett.

Oral Looper
Funeral services for Mr. Oral Looper, 71, of Monterey were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2001, from the chapel of Faith Outreach Worship Center in Monterey with Bro. Oliver England and Bro. Jr. Gardner officiating. Burial was in the Looper cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home of Monterey in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Looper died Saturday, August 25, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a farmer, and was very well known in surrounding counties, as well as other states, for his singing ministry with "The Looper Trio", which included his brother and daughter. They were later known as "The Loopers" after other daughters and sons joined the group.

Born June 13, 1930, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Alvin C. and Visa Lee (Phipps) Looper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ella Dee Looper, Lula Mae Looper, and Berta Emily Looper; a brother, Clyde Looper; and a great grandson, James Paul Holloway.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys (White) Looper, Monterey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ferrel and Judy Looper, Livingston, and Freddie and Debbie Looper, Monterey; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Richard Wilson, Brenda and Johnny Ray, and Lisa and Randy Norris, all of Monterey, and Louise and Freddie Holloway, Cookeville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Coleman and Marie Looper, Crossville, and Bill and Minnie Looper, Anderson, IN; two sisters, Eulla Looper and Anna Short, both of Monterey; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were David Looper, Richard Dale Wilson, Johnny Earl Ray Jr., James Holloway, Jason Holloway, and Roy Joe Geesling. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Matt Norris and Gabriel Norris.

Stephen Paul Murphy
Funeral services for Mr. Stephen Paul Murphy, 34, of Alpine, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Steele officiating. Burial was in the Falling Springs cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Murphy died Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was disabled and was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Born October 31, 1966, in Putnam County, he was the son of Teddy Rose and Lonnie Simpson and James and Brenda Cantrell.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include four brothers and a sister-in-law, Donnie and Stephanie Simpson, and Michael Simpson, all of Alpine, Chris Cantrell and William Cantrell, both of Livingston; a sister, Melissa Sells, Hilham; a great aunt, Effie Coleman, Allred; and several nieces and nephews.

Joetta (Peek) Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Joetta (Peek) Smith, 46, of Alpine, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. John Copeland officiating. Burial was in Falling Springs cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a sewing instructor at Berkline Corp. and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Born Aug. 9, 1955, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of J.B. and Dollie (Walker) Peek of Rickman. She was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Peek.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Jerry C. Smith, Alpine; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jackie and Jason Hammock, Rickman, and Tammy and Brad Hinson, Alpine; five sisters, Carolyn Vanover and Darlene Peek, both of Kentucky, and Kathy Langford, Irene Flowers, and Betty Matthews, all of Livingston; seven brothers, Bill Peek, Bobby Peek, Donnie Peek, and Roy Peek, all of Kentucky, Charles Peek, Rickman, and Wayne Peek and Harold Peek, both of Livingston; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jason Hammock, Brad Vanover, Brad Hinson, Doug Key, Dusty Flowers, George Sells, Lee Roy Vanover.

Katie A. Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Katie A. Smith, 86, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with her grandchildren officiating. Burial was in the Monroe cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Overton County Nursing Home. She was a nurses aide and of the Jehovah's Witness faith.

Born July 15, 1915, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Ollie (Cravens) Garrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Craton Smith; a son, Brian Craton Smith; and a daughter, Katie Francine Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Lola Jerrye Scott, Monroe, and Frances Sherrill, Livingston; a sister-in-law, Virgie Garrett, Banner Springs; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Denny Scott, Dodd Scott, Fred Sherrill, Andy Sherrill, James Sherrill, and Chris Sherrill.

James William Ledbetter
Funeral services for Mr. James William Ledbetter, 66, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, from the chapel of Crestlawn Funeral Home in Byrdstown with Keith Linder officiating. Burial was in the Williams Chapel cemetery in Pickett County with Crestlawn Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ledbetter died Monday, Oct. 29 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a sawmill worker. Born July 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Benton and Della (Garrett) Ledbetter.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda (Beaty) Ledbetter, Livingston; and two sisters, Elsie Stover, Livingston, and Annie Ward, Ohio.

Pallbearers were Junior Stover, Odis Johnson, Teddy Bilbrey, Jerry Stover, and Louie Papus.
