Homer E. Smith
Graveside services for Mr. Homer E. Smith, 86, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2000, from the Good Hope cemetery with Bro. Michael Smith officiating. Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith, a retired school teacher, died Friday, September 8, 2000.

Born September 6, 1914, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Herbert and Maude (Hassler) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Oakley Smith.

He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Lions Club.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry H. Smith, San Antonio, TX, and Donnie E. Smith, West Palm Beach, FL; a daughter, Jane Hale, Chattanooga; a brother, Howard Smith, Mountain City; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. REV.

James T. Johnson
Funeral services for Rev. James T. Johnson, 80, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. James Cameron, Rev. Chris Reagan, and Rev. Tom Halliburton officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Rev. Johnson, a retired minister, died Thursday, September 7, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

He was born February 1, 1920, in Knox County.

He was a United Methodist minister for 51 years, having pastored at Leoma Charge, Savannah Charge, Ethridge Station, Hillsboro Charge, Estil Springs Station, Whiteside Station, Woodbury Charge, Adams Station, Tracy City, Forest Mill, St. Paul, McDonald Chapel, Salem Station, Bethlehem, and Mt. Gilead Station, where he retired.

Survivors include three daughters, Faye Baltimore, Knoxville, Gayle Wells, Manchester, and Joy White, Livingston; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Keith Wells, Kelvin Wells, Allen Baltimore, James White, Christopher White, and Jonathan White. Serving as honorary pallbearers were United Methodist ministers.

J.H. Ledford
Funeral services for Mr. J.H. Ledford, 87, of Battle Creek, MI, and formerly of Livingston, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, September 13, 2000, from the chapel of the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek with Rev. Melanie Baker-Streevy officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek with Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ledford, a retired painter, died Sunday, September 10, 2000, at Battle Creek Health Systems in Battle Creek.

Born May 19, 1913, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Verlie M. (Winton) Ledford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Grace (Vaughn) Ledford; a brother, Houston Ledford; and a granddaughter, Cora Ann Ledford.

He was employed as a spray painter for U.S. Register Co. for 38 years and a lifetime member of the Ira A. Beck Lodge #503, F&AM, Commandery #33, Knights Templar, Saladin Shrine-Valley of Grand Rapids, MI, and the United Commercial Travelers. While living in Livingston, he played on the school basketball team that competed in the state finals.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice C. Hernandez, San Antonio, TX, and Carol A. Stainoff, West Palm Beach, FL; two sons, Jerry D. Ledford and Bobby V. Ledford, both of Battle Creek, MI; a brother, Charles Ledford, Livingston; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Betty Lou Burks
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Lou Burks, 69, of Monroe, will be conducted at a later date in Freemont, OH. Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home of Cookeville will be in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Burks died Thursday, September 7, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born August 6, 1931, in Welch, WV, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Rosie Harris Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph H. Burks; two sons, Ralph L. Burks and Guy V. Burks; a daughter, Belinda Burks; a brother, Dickie Ray Moore; and a sister, Mary Rose.

Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Folk, Cookeville, Rosie Stein, Monroe, and Susan Goodwin, Clyde, OH; and 11 grandchildren.

David Dewayne Abston
Funeral services for Mr. David Dewayne Abston, 50, of Wilder, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 25, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Robbie Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Phillips cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Abston died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a grader operator for the Livingston Highway Department and of the Baptist faith.

Born March 30, 1951, in Putnam County, he was the son of Woodrow and Rozell (Threet) Abston of Wilder. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Abston.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Brenda Abston, Wilder, a step-daughter, Tracy Smith, Wilder; six brothers, Ronnie Abston and Joe Abston, both of Crawford, Elmer Abston and Michael Abston, both of Livingston, and Adam Abston and Gary Abston, both of Wilder; and five sisters, Patsy Sells, Marilyn Lane, Brenda Vaughn, and Lisa Cravens, all of Wilder, and Linda Smith of Crawford.

Pallbearers will be Dallas Cravens, Mickie Smith, David McDonald, Joe Garrett, Floyd Ledford, Mark Gore, Carl Hodge, and Willie Hodge.

Willie D. White
Masonic rites for Mr. Willie D. White, 80, of Monroe, were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Funeral services conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Irwin officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. White died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a farmer and a member of Monroe Christian Church and Livingston Masonic Lodge # 259.

Born January 23, 1921, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Albert and Ida (Smith) White. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dean (Gunter) White, Monroe; two daughters, Beth Payne, Atlanta, GA, and Susan Asberry, Monroe; a brother, Dick White, Monroe; two sisters, Bobbi Maynard, Monroe, and Nettie Jane Johnson, Sacramento, CA; and a grandson, Thomas Ledford.

Pallbearers were Mike Hoover, Rick Hoover, Jerry Melton, Travis Gore, Phillip Gunter, and Mike Hoover.

Gearl Condon Waites
Funeral services for Mr. Zearl Condon Waites, 72, of Algood, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, from the Cookeville chapel of Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home with Dr. Perry Pirtle and Rev. Matt Jones officiating. Burial was in Paran cemetery in Overton County with Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home, Cookeville Chapel, in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Waites died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was retired from the shipping department of Acme Boot Co. and was a member of the Cookeville Senior Citizens and Algood First Baptist Church.

Born October 17, 1928, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Johnny and Ethel (Pharris) Waites.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brown Waites, Algood; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Johnny Randolph, Kingston; three step-daughters, Bonetta Whitehead, Barbara Jones, and Shelia Nash; a step-son, Joey Whitehead; a sister and brother-in-law, Onda and Sam Gibbons, Algood; grandchildren, Justin and Stephanie Randolph, Benjamin Randolph, and Jonathan Randolph; and step-grandchildren, Monica Weileman, Travis and Tamra Whitehead, Keisha Jones, and Mark Nash Jr.

Pallbearers were Joe Maxwell, Sam Talent, Joey Whitehead, Walter "Bud" Bandy, Bob Means, Phillip Gibbons, Joe Vaughn, and Donnie Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jeff Burton, Delbert Jones, Brownie Rigdon, and Baskell Jones.

Irene (Copeland) Stockton
Funeral services for Mrs. Irene (Copeland) Stockton, 85, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, from Algood United Methodist Church with Rev. Vance Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Paran cemetery in Overton County with the Algood Chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Stockton died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at NHC of Cookeville. She was a graduate of the Alpine School in Overton County and Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. She was a teacher with Overton and Putnam County school systems for 36 years, a member of the Algood United Methodist Church, a member of the choir, and a teacher of the Christian Fellowship Class.

Born February 27, 1916, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Harrison and Pearl (Ferrell) Copeland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Howard Copeland and Edward Ward Copeland.

Survivors include her husband, Cordell Stockton, Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth "Beth" and Donald "Don" Smith, Cookeville; a son, John D. Stockton, Athens, AL; seven granddaughters, Donna Dieringer, Martha Alford, Margaret Itony, Anne Garrett, Elizabeth Stockton, Sarah Stockton, and Rachael Stockton; four great grandsons, Matthew Dieringer, Travis Alford, Harrison Alford, and Zachary Itony; and a great granddaughter, Sarah Alford.

Pallbearers were Donald Stockton, Larry Stockton, Michael Mullinix, Ed Copeland, Charles Dyer, Gerald Parham, and Dennis Jones. Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Christian Fellowship Class of Algood United Methodist Church.

Luke David Pigg
Funeral services for Mr. Luke David Pigg, 58, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Garry Anderson and Fred Spivey officiating. Burial was in Maxwell Chapel cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Pigg died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a member and the minister of Fairview Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Born June 24, 1942, in Overton County, he was the son of the late George Hubert and Mary Ella (Ayers) Pigg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Pigg, and two sisters, Myrl Moss and Vivian Wooten.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Dickerson) Pigg, Cookeville; two step-sons, Anthony Smith, Lake City, FL, and Jimmy Smith, Baxter; two sisters, Joilet Scrimager, Memphis, and Lois McDonald, Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Arvin Pigg, Hilham, and Lear Pigg, Cookeville; a granddaughter, Ashlee Smith, Lake City, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Brett Bice, Clifton Pigg, Ken Hunter, Gary Pigg, Chris Barnes, and Ernest Moody. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Kenny Pigg, David Pigg, Jerry Pigg, Donald Pigg, Frank Pigg, and Duane McDonald.

Walter Henry Muehlbauer
Funeral services for Mr. Walter Henry Muehlbauer, 63, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tracy Langford officiating. Burial was in Aarons Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Muehlbauer died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a brick layer and a member of Columbia Presbyterian Church in Owensville, IN.

Born July 27, 1937, in Evansville, IN, he was the son of the late William and Madiline (Munsterman) Muehlbauer.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Muehlbauer, Hilham; a son, Walter Allen Muehlbauer, New Harmony, IN; a daughter, Ann Marie Gillian, New Harmony, IN; three step-sons, Ricky Wayne Garrett, Knoxville, James Garrett, Monroe, and Bill Goolsby, Gainesboro; three step-daughters, Teresa Lee, Monroe, Martha Phillips, Hilham, and Betty Dailey, Celina; and a grandson, Thomas Gillian. Pallbearers were Bill Goolsby, James Garrett, Doug Stansberry, Jeff Hammock, Joe Phillips, and John Lee.

Reba Joan McDonald
Funeral services for Mrs. Reba Joan McDonald, 52, of Cookeville, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in the Jim Lottie Smith cemetery in Monroe with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McDonald died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker.

Born May 9, 1948, in Overton County, she was the daughter of Oscar Phillips of Livingston, and Lela (Smith) Nichols of Monroe. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Phillips.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include three sons, Frank Dotson, Jeffery Dotson, and Kevin Dotson, all of Rickman; a daughter, Rhonda Hooks, Cookeville; two brothers, John Phillips and Rodney Phillips, both of Monroe; four sisters, Karen Adragna, Michigan, Kim Biauce and Kathy Dyer, both of Gainesboro, and Molissa Phillips, Livingston; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Keith Burgess, Barney McDonald, Donnie McDonald, Jason Phillips, Bland Smith, and Pat Smith.

Trevle Mae Hicks
Funeral services for Mrs. Trevle Mae Hicks, 73, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville with burial in Carr cemetery in Overton County. Whitson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hicks died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at her home. She was a housewife.

Born January 29, 1928, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Bell (Boswell) Allred. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hicks; two infant children; three sisters; a brother; and a granddaughter.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Michelle Hicks, Ray and Theresa Hicks, and James Hicks, all of Cookeville; a brother, Junior Ray "Buddy" Hicks, Florida; two sisters, Jewel Hicks and Betty Finley, both of Livingston; and four grandchildren, James Hicks Jr., Jamie Hicks, Tawanna Hicks and Linda Faye Morris.

Nell Cross
Funeral services for Mrs. Nell Cross, 61, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, from the chapel of Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Amonett officiating. Burial was in Amonett cemetery with Byrdstown Memorial Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Cross died Friday, April 20, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Calvary Bible Church.

Born August 14, 1939, in Byrdstown, she was the daughter of the late Cullen and Eula Grace (Jones) Amonett.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Copeland, Byrdstown; three brothers, Eugene Amonett and Joseph Amonett, both of Byrdstown, and Fred Amonett, Livingston; four sisters, Ruth Baum, Monroe, Linda Sheets, Harriman, Carolyn Mitchell, Byrdstown, and Patricia Michalek, West Bloomfield, MI; and a special friend, Michael Davidson, Livingston.
