Charles Henry Cooper
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Henry Cooper, 70, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Dewey Glenn Masters officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Cooper, a carpenter and retired carpentry instructor at the Tennessee Technology Center at Livingston, died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at his home.

Born July 13, 1930, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Ulysses and Hessie Qualls Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Grace Marshall.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Brown Cooper, Hilham; a son, Robert Cooper, Hilham; three daughters, Charlotte Vaughn, Gail Morgan, and Nancy Coffman, all of Hilham; three brothers, Marion Cooper and Keeton Cooper, both of Livingston, and Steve Cooper, Poplar Springs Community; three sisters, Lura Dean McGinnis, Atlanta, GA, Sarah Nell Hayes, Chattanooga, and Pat Walker, Rickman; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Matt Morgan, Travis Coffman, Justin Coffman, Chuck Cooper, Ross Cooper, Ronnie Sims, Ryan Burchfield, and Joe Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers were James Marshall and Jamie Fields.

W.R. Mitchell
Funeral services for Mr. W.R. Mitchell, 83, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Coil officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Mitchell, the owner of a trucking business, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born June 1, 1917, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Albert and Maude Deck Mitchell.

He was a member of the Livingston Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Arms Mitchell, Livingston; two sons, Dickie Mitchell and David Mitchell, both of Livingston; five grandchildren, William Mitchell, Lt. Clark Mitchell, Jean Elizabeth Ayers, Matthew Mitchell, and Chuck Mitchell; and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Timmy Gray, Lt. Clark Mitchell, William Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Chuck Mitchell, and Chris Ayers.

Leila Blanche Ledbetter
Graveside services for Miss Leila Blanche Ledbetter, 91, of Alpine, were conducted Monday, August 14, 2000, from the Green Hill cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Miss Ledbetter, a homemaker, died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born October 21, 1909, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Etta (Sells) Ledbetter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Della McDonald, Fannie Ledbetter, and Ruby Allred; and two brothers, Dewey Ledbetter and Clester Ledbetter. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one brother, Charles Ledbetter, Anderson, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Rita Jean Davis
Funeral services for Mrs. Rita Jean Davis, 53, of Fayetteville and formerly of Alpine, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, from Christ Church Presbyterian in Alpine, with Rev. Dale Weldon officiating. Burial was in Red Hill cemetery with Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home of Fayetteville in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Davis, an elementary school teacher at Brooks Elementary, died Thursday, August 10, 2000.

Born April 17, 1947, she was the daughter of Chloe Beaty of Alpine.

She was affiliated with Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Denver Davis, Fayetteville and formerly of Monroe; a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Marc Fabre, Newman; a son, Brian Davis, Peachtree City; three sisters, Jessie Linder, Deanna Linder, and Sue Ruble, all of Alpine; and three brothers, Rex Beaty, Seattle, WA, Clifton Beaty, Hixson, and David Beaty, Alpine.

Eliza Jane Cooper
Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Jane Cooper, 96, of Algood, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2000, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home with Rev. C. Vance Johnson and Rev. Susan Gardner officiating. Burial was in the Okolona cemetery with Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Cooper, a retired supervisor with the Tennessee School for the Blind, died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Cookeville NHC.

Born September 23, 1903, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late James David and Virginia Nolen Chilton West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Reese Cooper; four sisters, Louise West, Clara Smith, Ruth Qualls, and Maude Goodpasture; five brothers, Reece West, Ernest West, Harris West, Clarence West, and Will West; and a son-in-law, Arthur Brown.

She was a member of the Algood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Christine Brown, Cookeville, and Virginia and Willie Arms, Algood; five grandchildren, Phil Brown, Marcia Heady, Ann Mitchell, Dwight Arms and Jan R. Arms; and four great grandchildren, Stephen Warren, Tracy Guyon DeChemilly, Hatten Ray Mitchell, and Shona Ellis.

Pallbearers were Dwight Arms, Phil Brown, Danny Heady, David Mitchell, Patrick Guyon DeChemilly, John West, Raymon Cooper, and Glen Cooper.

ORAL LESTER GORE
Funeral services for Mr. Oral Lester Gore, 68, of Livingston, were conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Liberty cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gore, a used furniture dealer, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born March 20, 1931, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Della Cantrell Gore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Gore; two sons, Larry Gore and Gary Gore; two brothers, Clyde Gore and Willie Gore; and a sister, May Gore Dishman. He was affilliated with the Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie O. Gore, Livingston; two daughters, Janice L. Ham, Murfreesboro, and Carolyn S. Dixon, Livingston; three brothers, Bernard Gore, Anderson, IN, Robert (Bob) Gore, Rickman, and Roy Gore, Monroe; three sisters, Opal Gore Dishman, Alexandria, IN, Louise Gore Meredith, Rickman, and Celia Gore Daniels, Monroe; a very special friend, Geneva Lamprey; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Timmy Dixon, David Britt, Randy Gore, Daniel Gore, Jeff Meredith, and Kenny Meredith.

ROSALIE JODY RAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Rosalie Jody Ray, 53, of Allons, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 1999, from Martin Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Clayton and Rev. Tommy Davis officiating. Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ray, an auto factory worker, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born February 21, 1946, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Montie and Eula Mae Wallace Daniels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Wingate. She was a member of Martin Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Ray, Allons; three sons, Ricky Keen, Nevada, Jay Keen, Arkansas, and Frank Ray, Allons; three grandchildren, Elissa Dawn Keen, Brittney Kizer, and Frank Gavin McKay Ray; three brothers, John Daniels, Smith Grove, KY, Charles Daniels, Joelton, and Donald Daniels, Allons; and four sisters, Linda Hammock, Livingston, and Frances Raines, Martha Booher, and Jane Melton, all of Allons.

Pallbearers were David Raines, Glenn Raines, Shane Booher, Jonathan Daniels, Kelly Daniels, Matthew Melton, Mike Buell, and Steve Buell.

ROSE LAWLER
Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Lawler, 66, of Anderson, IN, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 1999, from the chapel of Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Michael J. Weber of Chesterfield Christian Church officiating. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery with Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Lawler, former employee of Indiana Bell, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at St. John's Health Systems.

Born November 17, 1932, in Gainesboro, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mattie Ellis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lawler; four sisters, Audrey Miller, Lola Brown, Velva Harris, and Estelle Ramsey; and two brothers, Robert Ellis and Kay Ellis.

She was a member of Chesterfield Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Lee Atkinson, Muncie, IN; two sisters, Inez Smethers, Anderson, IN, and Jean Otis, Rocky Mountain, NC; a brother, Luther Ellis, Anderson, IN; a step-daughter, Jowanna Dearing, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Emma Johnson Fry
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Johnson Fry, 75, of Kingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 27, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Fry, a nursing home LPN, died Wednesday, August 25, 1999, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman.

Born November 27, 1923, in Fentress County, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Betty Zachery Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Hensley.

She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Edd Hensley, Rockwood, Tom Hensley, Kingston, Steve Hensley, Hermitage, and Phil Hensley, Austell, GA; a daughter, Rebecca Plaster, Chickamauga, GA; three sisters, Cleo Long, Hilham, and Delsie Meglich and Elise Williams, both of Livingston; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Hensley, Hank Hensley, Anthony Hensley, Phillip Hensley, Eric Hensley, Jason Hensley, John Ford, Tim Williams, and Bubbie Long.

Kermit E. Smith
Graveside memorial services for Mr. Kermit E. Smith, 82, of Arizona and formerly of Willow Grove, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 1999, from St. Johns cemetery. Speck Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service was held last year in Yakima, WA. Mr. Smith died January 27, 1998, in Tuscon, AR.

Born December 2, 1915, in Holly Creek, he was the son of the late Gordon Smith and Maude Conatser Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alyne; and a brother, Bill.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Ruth Grimsley Smith; three daughters and a son-in-law, Lee Ann Rasnussen, Laura Jane (Lolly) Smith, Lou Ellen and Marvin Strand; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stephanie Strand and James Fox; a grandson and partner, Robin Rasnussen and Shannon Russo; a great grandson, Riley.

Fred Thomas Peek
Funeral services for Mr. Fred Thomas Peek, 82, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 30, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Donald Cobb officiating. Burial was in Good Hope cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Peek, a retired supervisor for Baird-Ward Air Conditioning Co., died Friday, August 27, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born October 18, 1916, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Thomas Colvert and Cora Ann Freeman Peek.

He was of the Methodist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Peek, Livingston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jessie and J.T. Dubree, Daytona Beach, FL, and Elizabeth Carr, Livingston; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Micky Smith, Glenn Story, Art Horswell, Carey Gore, Doug Herd, and Ralph Vickers.

Haley Howard Carter
Mr. Haley Howard Carter, 81, of Livingston, died Thursday, August 26, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born September 24, 1917, in Sabine Parrish, LA, he was the son of the late Enoch Bradford and Carlotta Laurissa Hippler Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Metterholzer Carter.

He was of the Baptist faith and a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant during WWII.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Haley Howard Carter Jr., California, and Duane and Sheila Carter, Livingston; two sisters, Vera Steele, Dickerson, TX, and Clara Buck, Tyler, TX; a grandson, David Matthews Carter, Cookeville; a step granddaughter, Jacqueline Bennett, Jacksonville, FL; and four step great grandchildren.
