Johnny Richard Garrett
Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Richard Garrett, 46, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Harris and Bro. Bobby Gore officiating. Burial was in Stover cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Garrett, a self-employed construction worker, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born October 16, 1952, in Overton County, he was the son of Elsie Ledbetter Garrett of Livingston and the late Alvin Garrett. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Garrett.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Sheena Garrett, Monroe; a daughter, Deidra; four brothers, Jerry Garrett, Joe Garrett, and Danny Garrett, all of Livingston, and James Garrett, Allons; and four sisters, Betty Huffer, Livingston, Rema Garrett, Cookeville, Brenda Lewis, Hardy's Chapel Community, and Gail Sells, Tullahoma.

Pallbearers were Marvin Richardson, Carl Whited, Dennis Copeland, Ralph White, Doug Holman, and Jackie Kirby. Honorary pallbearers were Russell Sells, Kelly Daniels, Jason Sells, Jerry Bruce Garrett, Daniel Garrett, Garin Garrett, David Smith, Nick Jowers, Scotty Smith, Loyd Garrett, and Steve Flowers.

Ester Dixon
Funeral services for Mrs. Ester Dixon, 72, of Burleson, TX, and formerly of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 1, 1999, from Laurel Land Memorial Chapel in Fort Worth, TX. Burial was in the Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dixon, a homemaker, died Sunday, June 27, 1999 in Burleson, TX.

Born March 18, 1927, in Monterey, she was the daughter of the late Willie Joe and Emma England Looper. In adition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husband, Rev. P.A. Dixon; a sister, Bessie Key; and a brother, A.P. Looper.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Steve Shafel, Gas City, IN; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Glenda Dixon, Everman, TX; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Looper, Rickman; six sisters, Dorthy Hinson, Anderson, IN, Margarie Anderson, Nashville, Velma Livingston and Artie Sheets both of Dayton, OH, and Myrtle Phillips and Christine Phillips both of Monterey.

Robert P. Holt
Funeral services for Mr. Robert P. Holt, 70,of Louisville, KY, and a native of Livingston, were conducted Sunday, July 4, 1999 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home in Pioneer Village, KY, with Bro. Larry Sellers officiating. Burial was in Brookland cemetery in Kentucky.

Mr. Holt, employee of Inland Container, died Friday, July 2, 1999 at Norton Suburban Hospital.

He was a Korean Conflict Army veteran, a member of Freewill Baptist Church and a member of American Legion Post No. 0200.

Survivors include his wife, Allie M. Phillips Holt; two daughters, Sheila King and Cindy Stephan; two sons, Blake R. Holt and Paul E. Holt; and six grandchildren.

Rick E. Whited
Funeral services for Mr. Rick E. Whited, 31, of Jamestown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Hunter Cove cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Whited, a saw mill employee, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Rhea County Medical Center in Dayton.

Born June 23, 1967, in Overton County, he was the son of Helen Sue (Ray) Whited of Jamestown and the late Dallas E. Whited. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Josie D. Ray and E.G. and Samantha A. Whited; and an infant brother, Darrel.

Survivors in addition to his mother include three daughters, Ashley M. Whited, Emily B. Whited, and Taylor C. Whited, all of Livingston; a grandfather, Thomas W. Ray, Allons; two sisters, Mechelle Ray, Allons, and Sandra Sells, Jamestown; a special great uncle, Carl Whited Sr.; six aunts; three nieces; a host of cousins and other relatives; and a special friend, Brenda Cravens.

Pallbearers were Steven Smith, Tim Sells, B.J. Gunnels, J.R. Cravens, Michael Crabtree, and Chris Reagan. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Smith, Billy A. Davis, Bobby A. Davis, and Chad Hall.

Creo (Boles) Beaty
Funeral services for Mrs. Creo (Boles) Beaty, 82, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Winningham officiating. Burial was in Sylvester Robbins cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Beaty, a homemaker, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born July 28, 1916, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late William Lonza 'Doc' Boles and Mary Etter (Lacy) Boles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Beaty; and three brothers, Omer Boles, Otto Boles, and Arlo Boles.

She was a member of Bethsaida Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Bea Beaty and Virginia and Larry Walthall, all of Livingston; two sons and daughters-in-law, William (Bill) and Nell Beaty, Livingston, and Ronald 'Bud' and Margaret Beaty, Mankato, MN; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lottie and Frank Robertson, Nashville, and Veo Little, Lansing, MI; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Aaron and Lillian Boles, Dayton, OH, and Raymond and Bobbye Boles, Pall Mall; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and three sisters-in-law, Orella Boles, Byrdstown, Martha Parsons, Monroe, and Billie Matthews Beaty, Cookeville.

Eva Bowman
Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Bowman, 85, of Crossville and formerly of Allred/Steel Bridge Community of Overton County, were conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, July 23, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Turner officiating. An Eastern Star service was held at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bowman, a retired, teacher, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Country Place Health Care Center in Crossville.

Born December 31, 1913 in Badaxe, MI, she was the daughter of William H. MacGillivary and Ella Kreutziger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bowman.

She was a member of the Livingston Eastern Star Chapter #206.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rob Bowman and Nancy Bowman, Fairfield Glade, and Donald Bowman and Betty Bowman, Memphis; five grandchildren, Sharon Voehringer, William Bowman, Elizabeth Bowman, Fred Bowman, and Martha Bowman, all of Memphis.

Elija John Garrett
Funeral services for Mr. Elijah John (E.J.) Garrett, 69, of Monroe, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 1999, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Eugene McCowan and Bro. Roger Dial officiating. Burial was in Okalona cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Garrett, a retired employee of City Car Terminal in Detroit, MI, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born October 28, 1929, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Elijah John and Sallie Louann (Key) Garrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Garrett, Carl Garrett, and J.V. Garrett; and a sister, Ida Mae Garrett.

He attended the Freewill Baptist Church of Livingston, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery A. and Betty Jane Garrett, Monroe, Gregory L. and Lori Garrett, Inkster, MI, and Johnny E. and Ruth Marie Garrett, Monroe; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Auda and Fred Dial, and Ellis Speck, all of Rickman, and Jerrie and Arnold Lee Poston, St. Charles, IL; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Howard and Geneva Garrett, and Floyd Garrett, all of Rickman; four grandchildren, Alibeya Garrett, Jeffery Garrett, Sonya Garrett, and Crystal Garrett; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Jonnie Krantz, Beaver Creek, OH, Linda and husband Gerald Lee, Carthage, and Nina and husband Don Oakley, Monroe.

Pallbearers were Johnny Lee Garrett, Ralph Robbins, James Robbins, Clinton Guffey, Randall Dial, and Darrin Gore.

Ernest D. Goolsby
Funeral services for Mr. Ernest D. Goolsby, 49, of Bethune, SC, were conducted at 2 p.m, Sunday, July 25, 1999, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina with Edward Todd officiating. Burial was in McDonald cemetery with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Goolsby, a truck driver, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at his home.

Born June 10, 1950 in Celina, he was the son of Mary Rose Sherrell Hylton and the late Harlie L. Goolsby.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Crowe Goolsby; a step-son, Dennis Fritts, Bethune, SC; three step-daughters, Karen Barlow, Larmar, SC, Martrisha Moore, Lucama, NC, and Brenda K. Odem, Hartsville, SC; his mother and step-father, Mary Rose and Harlin H. Hylton, Hilham; a brother, Herman Lee Goolsby, Hilham; a half-brother, Alfred Bruce Barnes, Bean Blossom, IN; two half-sisters, Dian Anderson, Celina, and Bonnie Jean Alley, Greenwood, IN; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Laura Ethel Hill
Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Ethel Hill, 90, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 1999, from the chapel of Crestlawn Funeral Home with Henry Colbert and Glenn Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Mullins cemetery with Crestlawn Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hill, a housewife, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Born in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Louisa Dowdy Mullins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nasby Hill; two sisters, Dellie Huddleston and Mae Logan; three brothers, John Allen, Floyd Mullins, and Charlie Mullins.

She was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mojean Ledbetter and Janice Gold, both of Tuolumne, CA; two brothers, Jim Mullins and Chester 'K.O.' Mullins, both of Brydstown; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews Max Mullins, James 'Jap' Mullins, Cecil Mullins, Junior Logan, Gene Logan, and John Logan.

Herbert H. Holt
Funeral services for Mr. Herbert H. Holt, 70, of Alpine, were conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, July 23, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Cobb officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Holt, retired from the U.S. Navy, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born February 8, 1929, in Monroe, he was the son of the late Jobe and Gurtrude Potts Holt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Sue Holt; two brothers, Herchell Holt and Noble Holt; two sisters, Willadean Holt and Mildred Newberry; and a half-sister, May Hinyschla. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Todd Holt, Alpine; two sons, Wayne Holt, Monroe, and Timmy Holt, Jamestown; a daughter, Patricia McKenzie, Greenfield, NC; three grandchildren, Robert Holt and Matthew Holt, both of Monroe, and Cody Holt, Jamestown; and three sisters, Pauline Padgett, Monroe, Emojean Holt, Pittsburgh, PA, and Louise Taylor, Coraopolis, PA.

Katherine Alisha Norrod
Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Alisha Norrod, 64, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Owen Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Norrod cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Norrod, a housewife, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born December 31, 1934, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Hershell and Doris Whited Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Williams Reagan.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Norrod, Monroe; a son, Danny Norrod, Livingston; a daughter, Diane Davis, Livingston; a brother, Morris Williams, Livingston; a sister, Norma Richardson, Michigan; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Corey Norrod, Chuck Davis, Tony Reeser, Charles Smith, Johnny Lee, and James Norrod.

Katrina G. Potter
Funeral services for Mrs. Katrina G. Potter, 28, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 1999, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Brown officiating. Burial was in Etter cemetery in Byrdstown with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Potter, a manager at Livingston Dairy Queen, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Livingston Regional Hospital. Born January 17, 1971, in Anderson, IN, she was the daughter of Rosa Johnson Parsons and Cloyce Fletcher.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her parents Rosa and Glenn Parsons, Livingston, and Cloyce Fletcher, Willow Grove Community; her husband, Charles (Frankie) Potter, Livingston; a son, Garrett Potter, Livingston; three daughters, Brittany Potter, Jessica Potter, and Brandy Potter, all of Livingston; a grandfather, Joe Johnson, Byrdstown; a brother, Chris Fletcher, Florida; two sisters, April Fletcher and Sissy McCraney, both of Livingston; a father-in-law, Frank Potter, Florida; and a mother-in-law, Jean Potter, Livingston.

Pallbearers were Malcolm Johnson, Tracy Melton, Kenny Melton, John Melton, Gene Heaton, and Phillip Burchett.
