Marie Burton died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in a local hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Helen Wilbanks
Helen Rebecca Wilbanks died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 82.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Swanson officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Jana Turner
JASPER, Tenn. - Jana Elaine Turner died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was 36.

She was a native of Jasper and a graduate of Marion County High School.

Survivors include her parents, Robert E. 'Bob' and Carolyn Webb Turner; daughter, Carly Michelle Turner, all of Jasper; and a brother, Eddie Turner, Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. CST at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper, with the Rev. Lea Clower officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Estel Weathers
Estel E. Weathers of Rossville died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 78.

Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

John C. Cantrell
John Curtis Cantrell Jr., a manager for the North Carolina Mutual Insurance Co. for 27 years and the first black man appointed to the Hospital Authority at Erlanger, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in a local hospital.

Mr. Cantrell was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. He was a lead vocalist and former director of the male and adult choirs, a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the Scholarship Committee.

He was a member of Club 11, Blood Assurance and the Transportation Committee.

He was a graduate of Howard High School and Tennessee State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Cantrell; three sons, Anthony, Alfred and Curtis Cantrell; a daughter, Cynthia Williams; his mother, Jessie Hicks, all of Chattanooga; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul McDaniel and other ministers officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The body will be at the church for one hour before the service.

A Kappa Alpha Psi service will be held tonight at 6 at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Joe Wyatt
Joe E. Wyatt died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in a local nursing home.

He was the widower of Kathlea Wyatt and a member of the Oakwood Baptist Church. He was retired as district manager of J.F.G. Coffee Co. and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one daughter, Jan Davis of Chattanooga; one son, Steven Wyatt of Knoxville; three sisters, Flo Lanter of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Amy Creekmore of Williamsburg, Ky., and Jane Burton of Corbin, Ky.; one brother, Ike Wyatt of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Devotion Mausoleum in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Bob Gilbert officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Stella Cadwell
DAYTON, Tenn. - Stella M. Cadwell died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at her home. She was 73.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home with ministers Harold Newby and Tommy Eddington officiating.

Burial will be at Hurst cemetery in Evensville.

Frosty Wilhoit, 78
Funeral services for Forrest M. 'Frosty' Wilhoit Sr., who owned and operated Wilhoit's Gulf on Brainerd Road for 30 years, will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Daniels and the Rev. Fate Thomas officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Mr. Wilhoit died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 78.

He was the widower of Martha Cremer Wilhoit.

He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church and the Chattanooga Half Century Club.

Survivors include a son, Ken Wilhoit, Chattanooga; two daughters, Connie Friederichsen, Baton Rouge, La., and Dorothy Wilson, Huntsville, Ala.; four grandsons; one sister, Naomi Fryar, Nashville.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church.

John Tate
JASPER, Tenn. - John Scott Tate died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in his home. He was 37.

He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. J.C. Tate.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn 'Molly' Battles Tate, Jasper; two daughters, Rachael Waller and Tina Maroney, both of Attalla, Ala.; mother, Stella Roberts and stepfather, James Roberts, both of Tracy City, Tenn.; three sisters, Deborah Callan, Whitwell, Tenn., Joan Svenningsen, Whiteside, Tenn., and Mary Raines, Tracy City, Tenn.; and one brother, Bruce Tate, Jasper.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Funeral Home, Jasper, with the Rev. Brad Bryant and the Rev. Raymond Bryant officiating.

Burial will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

Delmas Wright
Delmas Thomas Wright of Birchwood died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 74.

He was a charter member of Decatur Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Jenkins Wright; two sons, Larry Wright, Dayton, Tenn., Frank Wright, Birchwood; daughter, Wanda Boss, Chattanooga; two brothers, Howard Wright, Brichwood, and Carl Wright, Georgetown, Tenn.; three sisters, Lennie Friddel and Jessie Goodwin, both of Brichwood, Ruby Lawson, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at the North Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home, Cleveland, Tenn.

Burial was in McInturf cemetery in Meigs County, Tenn.

Bess Thatcher
Bess Lamon Thatcher of Apison, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 96.

A native and longtime resident of the Apison area, she was a member of the Apison United Methodist Church and was widowed by two husbands, David W. Lamon and Paul D. Thatcher.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane L. Carpenter of Chattanooga, and Carole L. Sheffield of Apison; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Plowman cemetery, with the Rev. David G. Carpenter officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Mary E. Tapp
Mary Ellen McCauley Tapp, a member of the Fort Oglethorpe Church of Christ and a retired elementary school cook, died Tuesday at her Chickamauga, Ga., home. She was 109.

Mrs. Tapp, a lifelong resident of Chickamauga, was the widow of James Robert Tapp and the mother of the late Pauline Tapp Plaster and Hoyal A. Tapp.

Survivors include five sons, Loren and Robert Tapp, both of Chickamauga, A.M. 'Bill' Tapp, Rossville, Ga., Jack R. Tapp, Fort Oglethorpe, and Dan Tapp, Trion, Ga.; two daughters, Johnny Hammontree Putnam, LaFayette, Ga., and Rebecca Tapp Laird, Chickamauga; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at noon at the Fort Oglethorpe Church of Christ, with the Rev. H.E. Coleman and other ministers officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. at J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home, Chickamauga.

Marion Westbrook
Marion T. Westbrook of Rossville died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in a local hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Bob Tennyson
ATHENS, Tenn. - William Robert 'Bob' Tennyson of Athens, a leader in regional utility organizations, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 68.

Mr. Tennyson retired from the Athens Utilities Board as superintendent of accounts after 42 years, during which time he served as president of the Eastern District Power Accounts of the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association and chairman of the Customer Accounting and Services Committee, the accounting, finance and information group of the American Public Power Association.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater, served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Meridian Sun Lodge 50 F&AM.;

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Liner Tennyson; two daughters, Rhonda Gray, Sweetwater, and Cynthia Tennyson, Knoxville; two sons, William Robert Tennyson Jr., Nashville, and Brad Tennyson, Athens; a brother, Edward F. Tennyson, Sweetwater; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be today at 8 p.m. at Jerry Smith Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Anderson McCulley and Dr. Carlos R. Peterson officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Cedar Grove cemetery.
