Franklin Smith
PIKEVILLE, Tenn. - Franklin Harrell Smith died recently at his home. He was 69.

He was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Jo Ann Amith, Tammy Williams, Laura Smith, and Martha Smith, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, Jake Smith, Delray Beach, Fla., and Doyle Smith, West Palm Beach; five sisters, Eva Miller, Wilma Hankins, Virginia Summers, all of Pikeville, Edna Savage, Reva Holt, both of Dunlap, Tenn.; five brothers, George, Bob, and Homer Smith, all of Pikeville, and Gaither Smith, Dunlap, Billy Smith, Tunnell Hill, Ga.; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. CST at Putnam-Reed Funeral Home with the Rev. Wendell Harris officiating.

Burial will be in Collier cemetery.

Joseph Smith
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Joseph A. Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 55.

He was a member and past master of Cleveland Lodge 134 Chapter 39, Cleveland Council 124, Cleveland Commandry 28, Alhambra Shrine Temple and Harmony Chapter 143 Order of the Eastern Star.

He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and the son of the late Edna Evans Smith Garrett and Alexander Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Darrene McFarland Smith; daughter, Elisha Smith, Delano, Tenn.; four sons, James and Joe Smith Jr., Cleveland; Michael and Timothy Smith, Delano, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Juanita Ridley, Chatsworth, Ga.; four stepsons, Larry, Dennis, Scott and Bill McFarland; Dalton, Ga.; stepfather, Bill Garrett, Cleveland; four sisters, Georgie Snyder, Sarah Sue Trantham, Caroline Smith and Linda White, all of Cleveland; brother, Daniel E. Smith; stepsister, Kim Almond; two stepbrothers, Tim and Allen Garrett; all of Cleveland; 11 stepgrandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. Grady Simpson and the Rev. Charles Ellis officiating.

Burial will be in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miranda Smith
Miranda Nicole Smith of Rossville died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 12.

The lifelong Rossville area resident was a seventh grader at Rossville Middle School and attended Lakeview Wesleyan Church in Lakeview.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Connie Smith.

Survivors include her father, Norman Smith, Rossville; mother and stepfather, Martha and Robert Johnson Jr., Chattanooga; great-grandmother, Frances Hampton; a brother, Robert Johnson, both of Chattanooga; six sisters, Stacy Johnson, Chattanooga, Carolyn Newbille, East Ridge, Mary Pavelka, Corpus Christi, Texas, Norma Redmon, East Ridge, Kathy McKinney, Rossville, and Denise Caughorn, Nashville.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe with the Rev. Myron Banther and the Rev. Harold Watson officiating.

Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends all day Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert Houser
Robert Henry Houser Sr. died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 83.

Services were to be today at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bud Lindsay officiating.

Burial was to be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Arrangements by J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 301 Park City Road, Rossville, GA 30741.

Brian Parrish
Brian Parrish died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his residence. He was 52.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Rebecca Parson
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - Rebecca Ann Shelton Parson died at her home here on Monday, Feb. 9, 1998. She was 38.

She was the daughter of the late Edward Earl Sitz and Ruby Pybum Shelton.

Survivors include three sons, Joshua Dea, Christopher Heith and Rodger Keith Parson, all of Tracy City; two sisters, Cleo Tina Sitz, Tracy City, and Debra Ann Bedingfield, Sky Line, Ala.; a brother, James Edward Shelton, Tracy City.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City, with the Rev. David Irwin officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview cemetery.

Michael Hopper
Michael Eugene Hopper died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Mentone, Ala. He was 20.

He was a lifelong area resident, a former employee of the Hamilton County Nursing Home, and a member of Westside Baptist Church in Tunnel Hill, Ga.

Survivors include his mother, Melissa Bryson, Menlo; twin brother, Larry Hopper, Ooltewah; brothers Eris Hopper, Dalton, Ga., and Oscar Buckner Jr., Ooltewah; and maternal grandmother, Tlitha Bryson, Chattanooga.

The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with minister Lillard Stringer officiating.

Burial will be in Sylar cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Elsie Hope
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - Elsie Lee Hope died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in a Sewanee, Tenn., hospital. She was 76.

She was the widow of Harvey Hope, and attended Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Leon and Franklin Crisp, both of Tracy City, Clifford Crisp, Bandy, Va., and Ralph Crisp, Dade City, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City, with Lloyd Crisp officiating.

Burial will be in LaFayette, Ga., City cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas Parson
Thomas J. 'T.J.' Parson died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at his home. He was 84.

He was retired from UTC.

Survivors include his wife, Annie B. Parson; and one sister, Delta Mae Ray of Chattanooga.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Greenwood cemetery, with the Rev. Charlotte Burton and the Rev. Jay P. Trimble officiating.

The family will receive friends today after 11 a.m. at the Central Avenue Chapel of the Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

William Patey
William H. Patey of Hixson, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, in a local nursing home. He was 79.

A native of Vanleer, Tenn., he was a member of the Falling Water Baptist Church and was retired from the 3M Company, where he had been a security guard. He also was a member of the 3M Retirees Club.

Survivors include his wife, Melba Patey; and two brothers, James H. Patey, Dickson, Tenn., and E.K. Patey, Nehall, Calif.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Canada officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rollie Goins
Rollie Goins died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 81.

Mr. Goins was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was of the Church of God faith.

He was retired from Ross-Meehan Foundry and was an avid bowler with the Roaring 20s Bowling League.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frankie Hughs Goins; and one daughter, Janet Goins.

Survivors include his wife, Irene B. Goins, East Brainerd; four sons, Rollie A. Goins Jr., Ringgold, Ga., David A. Goins, Cedar Bluff, Ala., Clifton L. Goins, Lorten, Va., and Barry N. Goins, Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Ann Frank, Hamilton, Ohio; one sister, Virginia Farris, Chesapeake, Va.; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Charles Pittman officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph Payne
SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. - Joseph Earl Payne died Tuesday, Feb. 10,12 998, in a local hospital. He was 69.

A native of Bridgeport, Ala., he was the son of the late Adam T. and France Magdalena Geer Payne.

He was formerly employed with Penn-Dixie Cement Company and was a member of Richard City Church of Christ.

He was the last of 13 children.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Troutman Payne; two daughters, Glenda Payne Hill, Jasper, and Debra Joyce Ramsey, South Pittsburg; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. CST at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg with Minister Virgil Thomas and Minister James S. Warren officiating.

Burial will be in Cumberland View cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
