James Miller
James H. Miller of Hixson died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 69.
Arrangements will be announced by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Marlan Miller
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Marlan Nadean Irwin Miller died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 79.
Formerly of Castine, Ohio, she studied at Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio, and was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio.
She was a public school teacher in Darke County, Ohio, for 37 years and taught at several schools, including Hollandsburg, Butler and Franklin-Monroe.
She completed her career at Woodland Heights School in Greenville, Ohio, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Evengelical United Methodist Church in Greenville, and various local organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Miller, Cleveland; one son, Dr. Ted L. Miller, Cleveland; one grandson; and three stepgrandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Castine, Ohio.
Arrangements by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.
Local arrangements are by Fike Funeral Home, Cleveland.
Emma Million
Emma L. Million of Chattanooga, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 92.
A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, she was a retired saleslady with Westmoreland Silverware, as well as other products, for over 30 years. She was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Walter B. Million.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Games of San Diego; a son, Rolland E. Million of Arleta, Calif.; a sister, Roberta Deakins of Dunlap, Tenn.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lanny Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Hills cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Tom Mitchell
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Tom Mitchell died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at his home. He was 43.
He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, was a golfer and coached soccer and Little League baseball.
He was the son of the late William H. and Esther McCarthy Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife, Katy Mitchell; daughter Jessica Gay, Augusta, Ga.; two sons, Jefferson P. and Thomas A. Mitchell, Cleveland; sister MaryAnne Hoemann, Knoxville; two brothers, Peter C. and William H. Mitchell, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and one grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church with the Rev. Alex Waraksa officiating.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. with a rosary service at 8:30 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home.
Roscoe Moats
BENTON, Tenn. - Roscoe Moats died Monday, Feb. 1, 1998, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 88.
He was a retired ironworker who spent the majority of his career at the Kennedy Space Center in Titusville, Fla. Prior to that, he was known for his gospel singing as an original member of the Old Timers Quartet.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Stephens Moats, Benton; three daughters, Dean Waters, Roberta Campbell and Faye Waters; one son, Bill Moats, all of Benton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Benton with the Rev. Steven Linginfelter officiating.
Burial will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, Benton, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kimberly Monday
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Kimberly Annette Monday died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at her home. She was 28.
She was of the Baptist faith and was employed by the Cleveland Chair Company.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Monday; one daughter, Kassie Sharpe;one son, Cody Monday; her mother and stepfather, Doris and Tony Price, all of Cleveland; two sisters, Barbara Holland, Dalton, Ga., and Melinda Stewart, Cleveland; two brothers, Darrell and Carroll Sullivan, both of Dalton; one stepbrother, Eric Price; one stepsister, Amanda Price, both of Cleveland; and her grandparents, Robert and Barbara Sharp, Cleveland.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Hughes officiating.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ava R. Moore, 93
Ava Millicent Richards Moore, a former employee of Hamilton National Bank, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998. She was 93.
The native Chattanoogan also worked at Redford Variety Stores.
She was a member of East Ridge United Methodist Church.
She was formerly the senior member (over 80 years) of St. James Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, worked with youth, attended the Joy Class, and served as an officer in United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her niece, Richardia Phillips Pierce; great-niece, Lynne Pierce Mulligan; and great-nephew, Charles Samuel Pierce.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at East Ridge United Methodist Church with ministers Thomas Tucker and Ray Hargraves officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to East Ridge United Methodist Church or to the Girls Preparatory School Scholarship Fund.
Walker Moore
Walker B. Moore died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 87.

Samuel Derayen Morgan died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in a local hospital.

Caroline Morris
Caroline Ann Morris died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 50.
She was a graduate of Red bank High School and was the daughter of the late James Walter Mayhew.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald W. Morris; one son, Tony Morris; two daughters, Stacy Morris and Tina Morris; three grandchildren; her mother, Evelyn D. Mayhew; three brothers, Terry, Steve and Walter Mayhew;
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert Morris
Robert Morris Jr., formerly of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, in Athens, Ga.
He was a Booker T. Washington High School graduate and former member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Morris; a daughter, Camisha Morris; and mother, Mattie Morris.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Eberhardt and Sons Mortuary in Winter, Ga.

Bertha Murphy
Bertha Phinizey Murphy died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 90.
She was a lifelong resident of the Eastdale Antioch community, retired from TVA, attended Chattanooga Public Schools and was a member of Wesley Chapel Christian Community Church, where she served as president of the Missionary Society.
She was the widow of Edward Murphy.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Juanita Deloney, Chattanooga; two sisters, Agnes Locke, Chattanooga, and Laura Lawrence, Tuskegee, Ala.; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Christian Community Church with the Rev. Herbert. H. Wright and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

James Nation Sr.
James Lee Nation Sr. of Georgetown, Tenn., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a Georgetown hospital. He was 52.
He was of the Holiness faith, the son of the late Ruby Grogan and Arvel Nation, and the brother of the late Janibelle and Gainelle Willerson and Arvel Nation Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Nation, Georgetown; three daughters, Michelle and Stephanie Nation, Meigs County, Tenn., Gail Childs, Cleveland; three sons, James Lee Nation Jr., Cleveland, Tenn., Ronnie Crisp, Jason Nation, Meigs County; five sisters, Edna Spurgeon, McDonald, Tenn., Peggy Denton, Englewood, Tenn., Betty Wilson and Bobbie Martin, both of Alabama, Shirley Kesley, Ooltewah; brother, Gene Nation, Harrison; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home, Cleveland.
Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist cemetery in Meigs County.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
