Minnie Lippse
ATHENS, Tenn. - Minnie Lippse died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at a nursing home in Madisonville, Tenn. She was 96.
She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Riceville First Baptist Church and the widow of Samuel Oscar Lippse.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Click officiating.
Burial will be in Riceville cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hazel Lipscomb
Services for Hazel Woods Lipscomb will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Richard Humphrey officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Lipscomb, executive director of developmental disabilities for the state of Tennessee for 11 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 79.
Phillip Livingston
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Phillip Livingston died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at his home. He was 40.
Arrangements will be announced by the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes.
C.M. Louallen
DAYTON, Tenn. - Cardy Melvin Louallen died Friday, Feb 6, 1998, at a Chattanooga hospital. He was 74.
He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and a brother of the late Andy Turner, Ray, Jim and Leonard Louallen.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Louallen; three sons, Randy Louallen, Spring City, Tenn., Ray and Carson Edwards, both of Dayton; three daughters, Faye Potter, Forest Park, Ga., Janie Pressley and Lois Underwood, both of Dayton; four brothers, Earl and Johnny Louallen, Evensville, Tommy Louallen, Graysville, and Sam Louallen, Hixson; four sisters, Patsy Stinnett, Evensville, Geraldine Filyaw and Edwina Farmer, both of Dayton, and Susan Author, Roswell, Ga.; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with minister Daryl Bewley officiating.
Burial will be in Buttram Cemeterey.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Louise Bell
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Louise Bell died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 75.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wallace Bell.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Kenny Bell, Cleveland, John Bell, Jackson, Miss., and Mike Bell of Monroe, La.; one brother, Robert Moorer, Evergreen, Ala.; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. from the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Natchez, Miss.
Wildwood Chapel of the Buckner-Rush Funeral is in chare of arrangements.
Martha Lovell
JASPER, Tenn. - Martha Daffron Lovell died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 79.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. CST at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper with the Rev. Virgil Thomas and the Rev. Tommy Quick officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roger Lowe
Roger Samuel Lowe died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at his home in Harrison. He was 35.
Services were to be today at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with minister Bob Stitts officiating.
Burial will be private.
Arthur Lowery
Arthur Lowery, formerly of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in a Detroit, Mich., hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service of Chattanooga.
Teresa Lynas
Teresa Lynas died Sunday, Feb. 6, in a local hospital. She was 96.
She was of the Catholic faith and the widow of Richard Lynas.
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Ottley, Signal Mountain; one son, Richard Lynas Jr., Red Bank, N.J.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Hilda Maley, Philadelphia, Pa.
The body will be sent to John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank, N.J.
A memorial service will be held in Chattanooga at a later date.
Arrangements are by the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Calvin Madden
Calvin H. Madden, formerly of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in Harrisburg, Pa.
He was a member of Harris Chapel AME Zion Chapel.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Madden, Chattanooga; one son, Lester Jones, Hawaii; three sisters, Marilyn Madden, Loretta Finley, Patricia Jones; two brothers, Charles Madden, Harrisburg, Pa., Raymond Madden, Chattanooga.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Highland Memorial Garden.
Arrangements are by the Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.
Claudia Mahaffey
Claudia Mahaffey died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 94.
Survivors include one daughter, one son, several grandchildren, four sisters and one brother.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mel Crosson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Daniel 'Earl' Majors, 77
Daniel 'Earl' Majors, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 77.
Mr. Majors, a native of Knoxville, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Nazarene faith. He was a former employee of Pruett's and had been employed with BI-LO for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Majors; two daughters, Linda Black, Athens, Ala., and Terri Whitt-Massey, Kensington, Ga.; two sons, David Majors, Chattanooga, and Danny Majors, Ringgold, Ga.; a sister, Helen Bledsoe, Brownsboro, Ala.; brother, Paul Majors, Knoxville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Sheppard officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
The family will receive friends today after 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Garland Marion Marler
Garland Marion Marler of Harrison, who owned and operated the American Shoe Shop in East Chattanooga for 47 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 93.
Mr. Marler was a member of Bayside Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World and was just awarded his 50 year pin from Masonic Lodge 558 F&AM.;
Survivors include his wife, Frankie Lowery Marler; two daughters, Freida Parks, Harrison and Barbara Chelette, California; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Stitts officiating.
Burial will follow in New McDonald cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. and Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bayside Baptist Church Building fund.
E.L. 'Buddy' Marsh
Edgar L. 'Buddy' Marsh of Hixson, a builder who retired from Bricklayers Local #6 after holding the office of business agent and financial secretary for 23 years, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 79.
Mr. Marsh, a native of Chattanooga, was a charter member of Hamill Road Presbyterian Church. He was the leader in getting the labor donated for Central Baptist Church of Hixson and for a group home for the Orange Grove Center.
He was instrumental in starting the bricklayers apprenticeship program and the pension fund. He held offices in Tennessee and southern states apprenticeship programs and was a Gold Card, 50-year member of Bricklayers 6.
Mr. Marsh was a member of Hixson Masonic Lodge, the Alhambra Shrine Temple, the Scottish Rite and the Hixson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
He was the widower of Edna Marsh.
Survivors include three daughters, Joy Tomaras, Chattanooga, Mona Reno, Marietta, Ga., and Donna Tate, Ooltewah; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
