Lavonne Maskevich
Lavonne Maskevich died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 75.

She was a native of Whiting, Iowa, and a member of Hixson First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Maskevich; two daughters, Marilyn Vincent, Hixson, and Renee Owens, Soddy-Daisy; five sons, Richard Maskevich, Marietta, Ga., Tony Maskevich, Soddy-Daisy, Steve Maskevich, Chattanooga, Mark Maskevich, Smyrna, Ga., Joe Maskevich, Jr., Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Donald Long, Whiting, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Wood, the Rev. Terry Shannon and the Rev. Jimmy Jewell officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ressie Mason
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Ressie Gibson Mason died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 89.

She was a member of the West Cleveland Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress with the Hardwick Woolen Mill. She was the widow of Buford Mason and was the mother of the late Geneva McConnell and Hershel Mason.

Survivors include a son, Buddy Dean Mason of Cleveland; one daughter, Geraldine Purdie of Athens, Tenn.; one brother, D.C. Gibson of Flat Rock, Ala.; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Arris Cavender officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Grissom Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Jeremiah Mathis
Jeremiah 'Dude' Mathis died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, in an area V.A. hospital.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Merchant Marines.

Survivors include a daughter, Jerri E. Mathis, Oakland, Calif.; a brother, Pressley Mathis, Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Merriweather officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

The family will receive friends today after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Sarah Maynard
Sarah A. Maynard died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 86.

A native of Summerland, Miss., and a former resident of Athens, Ala., she was an Army nurse veteran of World War II, a retistered nurse and a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Maynard, Chattanooga; a daughter, Sarah Michaels, Denver, Colo.; brother, Norman Suggs, Houston, Texas; sister, Gertrude Meadows, Chattanooga; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the West Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with Dr. J.R. Faulkner and Dr. David E. Bouler officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James McBee
James Noah McBee, retired from Tried Construction Corp., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 65.

Services were to be today at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry St. John officiating.

Burial was to be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis.

William McBee
William McBee died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Margaret McBrien
Margaret V. Bales McBrien died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 80.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Richard Adams officiating.

Burial will follow in Simpson-McBrien cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

J.C. McClendon
J.C. 'Jim' McClendon died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 90.

He had lived in the Chattanooga area for over 33 years, moving from Marion County.

He was a retired welder, a member and former deacon of Mountain Creek Baptist Church, and the Wagoner Fellowship Sunday School Class.

He was the father of the late Donald McClendon and Evelyn McClendon.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Vandergriff McClendon; one daughter, Geraldine Long, Whitwell; two sisters, Annie Ruth Collier, Soddy-Daisy, and Lydia Ridge, Whitwell; four brothers, W.H. McClendon, Red Bank, Bill McClendon and B.L. McClendon, Whitwell, and B.A. McClendon, Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Standifer and the Rev. J.D. Pittman officiating.

Burial will be in Teague cemetery in Whitwell.

The family is receiving friends at the funeral home.

Roland McClendon
Roland McClendon died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at a local hospital. He was 48.

He was a deacon-in-training at Marbletop Baptist Church, a 1968 graduate of Howard High School, and a former employee of W.D.B. Construction Co.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lena Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon McClendon; a son, Roland McClendon Jr.; two daughters, Teresa McClendon and Laporchia McClendon; mother, Christine McClendon, all of Chattanooga; father, L.C. McClendon, Detroit; six brothers, Michael, Alfonzo, Alonzo, Ronnie, and Terry McClendon, all of Chattanooga, Steven McClendon, Detroit; six sisters, Linda McClendon, Lisa Plummer and Teresa Alfred, all of Chattanooga, Vickie, Valerie and Tameika McClendon, all of Detroit; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathaniel Craigmiles officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth McClister
Elizabeth Bush McClister of Signal Mountain, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 81.

She was a member of the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and attended Sullens College in Bristol, Va. She was the widow of James J. McClister.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie McClister of Knoxville; a son, Ronnie B. McClister of Signal Mountain; and four grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be conducted Tuesday in the Chattanooga National cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, with Dr. William Dudley officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Claude McClure
A joint service for Claude McClure and his wife Lucille will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. George Glazier officiating.

Burial will be in Saturday at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn cemetery in Spartanburg, S.C.

The McClures died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at their Brainerd home. He was 81. She was 79.

They were members of Grace Episcopal Church.

Mr. McClure was retired from Wilson and Co. as a salesman.

He earned a political science degree from Furman University.

Mr. McClure was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Clifton, S.C. Long involved in coin collecting, he had been an officer in the Numismatic Society.

Mrs. McClure was a retired teacher with Chattanooga Public Schools.

She graduated from the University of Tennessee, was a member of Daughters of the Confederacy and a past officer in the Numismatic Society.

They were the parents of the late Richard Forest McClure.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 850 Fort Wood St., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
