Tennessee, U.S., Delayed Birth Records, 1869-1909
Hal McCullough
Hal Emerson McCullough, retired after 10 years with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in Sanibel Island, Fla. He was 75.

Mr. McCullough was a resident of Chattanooga and a deacon at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was affiliated with the Cumberland Youth Foundation.

He had been employed at Southern Electric / Olin Conductors for 32 years. He was a 1941 graduate of Chattanooga High School and attended Middle Georgia Jr. College and the University of Chattanooga.

Mr. McCullough was a World War II veteran who served as a second lieutenant and flew B-24 Liberators. He was a member of the Chattanooga Radio Control Club and the Manker Patten Tennis Center.

His parents were the late James Allan and Eula Vann McCullough.

Survivors include his wife, Betsy Roberts McCullough; two daughters, Sharon Tucker, Chattanooga, and Cindy Ziegler, Ringgold, Ga.; a brother, James E. McCullough, Soddy-Daisy; five grandchildren, Matthew and Andy Ziegler, Lindsay, Jeff and Andy Tucker.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Lanny Johnson and Dr. Dwayne Cole officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1505 N. Moore Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

Harry Burke, 87
Harry Berke, a longtime Chattanooga trial lawyer, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 87.

Mr. Berke, a local resident, was a member of B'nai Zion Synagogue and a graduate of the Chattanooga College of Law.

He had represented Teamsters union leader Jimmy Hoffa and his civil cases led to a number of new Tennessee laws. He had tried cases as recently as December of last year.

Mr. Berke was a member of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and the Chattanooga Trial Lawyers Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Berke; a sister, Eva Shapiro; and two brothers, George and Ben Berke.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald and Marvin Berke, both of Chattanooga; sister, Lena Levine, Washington; and two grandchildren, Julie Berke, Beverly Hills, Calif., and Andrew Berke, Chattanooga.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at B'nai Zion Synagogue with Rabbi Josef Davidson officiating.

Burial will be in B'nai Zion cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the B'nai Zion Synagogue or the Siskin Foundation.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel.

Harry Gamble
Harry E. Gamble, co-owner and founder of AOK Supply Co., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 80.

Mr. Gamble was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Brewster Sunday School Class, the VIP group at the church and the Tyner Tots.

He was the father of the late Terry M. Gamble.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia H. Gamble; a daughter, Jill Prus; two sisters, Mildred Williams, Los Angeles, and Evelyn Mead, Chattanooga; one brother, Jack Gamble, Chattanooga; and one grandchild.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Bill Mooney and the Rev. Laura Trent officiating.

Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 3210 Social Circle, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Mrs. Katherine Browning
Katherine Browning, a teacher retired from the Chattanooga Public Schools, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Hickory Valley Retirement Center. She was 92.

She was a longtime resident of Chattanooga and a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Randles, Chattanooga; son, James H. Browning, Houston; three sisters, Mary Alice Morgan and Daisy Timberlake, both of South Carolina, and Frances Gardenhire, Chattanooga.

A graveside service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. David Harr officiating.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, East. No visitation will be held there.

Philip R. Bridendall Jr.
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Philip Redmond Bridendall Jr., an engineer instrumental in locating and building the first of the current Olin Chemical Corp. facilities in Charleston, Tenn., died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in a local hospital.

Mr. Bridendall was registered with the Board of Professional Engineers and was issued several patents relating to his work at Olin. He retired from Olin as manager of international engineering in 1986.

He was past president and an active member of the Kelly Class at Broad Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the Cleveland Country Club. He served for many years as treasurer of the Harry 'Ike' Dethero Memorial Golf Tournament, a sponsor of the Habitat for Humanity program.

Mr. Bridendall was active in many civic organizations, having served as past president of the Lions Club and as a chairman of the Ocoee District of Boy Scouts in the Cherokee Area Council. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his volunteer efforts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Ford Bridendall.

Survivors include a sister, Louise Bridendall; and his children, Caroline, John Phillip, William Howard, Margaret Elizabeth and Sarah Lurene.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland, with the Rev. Jackson P. Weikel officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the church.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Bobby John Williams
Bobby John Williams, plant manager at Chattanooga Paperboard Corp., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in a local hospital.

Mr. Williams, formerly of Grove Oak, Ala., had worked at Chattanooga Paperboard for 37 years. He was on the board of directors of the Tennessee Recycling Coalition and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, a graduate of Geraldine (Ala.) High School and Edmondson Business College and was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

He was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.

Mr. Williams was a son of the late John R. and Verdie Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Stanfield Williams; two daughters, Paige and Greta Williams, both of Knoxville; a son, Jonathan Sampson, Chattanooga; three sisters, Olene Oliver, Rossville, Imo Ruth Terrell, Ider, Ala., and Avis Ann Gilbert, Fyffe, Ala.; two sisters, Acie Edmondson, Grove Oak, and Jay Edmondson of Jasper, Tenn.

The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at W.T. Wilson Funeral Home in Rainsville, Ala.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery.

Robert 'Bob' Lee
Robert W. 'Bob' Lee, who retired as a civil engineer after 37 years with the Tennessee Valley Authority, died Monday, March 29, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 80.

Mr. Lee was a resident of East Ridge and a native of Tellico Plains, Tenn. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in civil engineering.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired U.S. Naval Reserve lieutenant commander. He was a member of East Ridge Presbyterian Church and finance officer and past commander of American Legion Post 95. He also was a member of VFW Post 4848, the 40 & 8 Retired Officers Association, the TVA Retirees Association and the Senior Neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy 'Dot' Lee.

Survivors include his stepdaughter, Jean Allarde, Indian Springs, Ala.; two sisters, Stella Habermas, Harriman, Tenn., and Anna Sue Huff, Madisonville, Tenn.; two brothers, Oswen Lee, Augusta, Ga., and James Lee, Tellico Plains; two granddaughters, Lisa Allarde, Oldsmar, Fla., and Kelly Boley, Cullman, Ala.; two grandsons, Mike Allarde, Pelman, Ala., and Chris Allarde, Homewood, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East, with Dr. William Q. Slawter III officiating.

Burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 95 will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Robert Charles Hamilton
Robert Charles 'Bob' Hamilton Jr., owner and operator of Handicap Specialties, Inc., died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 57.

Mr. Hamilton was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a charter member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Nelle Stewart Hamilton.

Survivors include a son, Chuck Hamilton, Chattanooga; two daughters, Anne Lee and Beth Hamilton, both of Chattanooga; a sister, Margaret Gray, Atlanta; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Buckley Robins and the Rev. Patricia Cahill officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, and one hour before the service at the church.

Doyle Blevins, 81
Doyle Maynard Blevins, who was involved in the grocery business locally for more than 49 years, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at a local health care facility. He was 81.

Mr. Blevins had served as supervisor and manager of several groceries. His first job was with Roy McDonald and the Home Stores.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II in the South Pacific as an operator of an amphibious landing craft.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Foy Blevins, Chattanooga.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Watson Blevins, Chattanooga; three daughters, Audra Warner Howard, Chattanooga, Donna Journey, Angier, N.C., and Belinda Moss, Columbia, Tenn.; a brother, Donald Blevins, Chattanooga; a sister, Dephia Kissiah, Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Allen Farris officiating.

Burial will be at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Chattanooga Area Cancer Fund, 850 Fortwood Place, Chattanooga, TN 37403.

Billy C. Youngblood, 67
Billy C. Youngblood, a decorated 39-year Marine Corps veteran, died Sunday, March 21, 1999. He was 67.

Mr. Youngblood served tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam. He achieved the rank of master gunnery sergeant, the Marine Corps' highest enlisted rank.

After his military career he was loss prevention supervisor at the Home Depot in Chattanooga for eight years.

He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Hall Sunday school class. He also belonged to the Marine Corps Association, the First Division Marine Corps Association and the Valleybrook Golf & Country Club.

Mr. Youngblood, originally of Springfield, Tenn., was a four-time Golden Gloves boxing champion in Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Marie Youngblood; his first wife, Jo Blevins Youngblood; and a son, David Clay Youngblood.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Youngblood; two daughters, Kelly Youngblood Gentry, Chattanooga, and Laura Lockaby Lillard, Chattanooga; three sons, Scott Youngblood, Carlsbad, Calif., Robert Lockaby, Chattanooga, and David Lockaby, Atlanta; two brothers, Joe Lynn Youngblood, Springfield, Tenn., and Jack Youngblood, Silver Spring, Md.; and a grandson, Bradon Youngblood, Vista, Calif.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Red Bank Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Steelman and Ben Haden officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
