Bessie Davis
Bessie Boyd Davis died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her home. She was 83.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Johnson officiating.

Burial will be at Chattanooga National cemetery.

The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Arrangements are by the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Grady Holland
Grady B. Holland of Soddy-Daisy, formerly of Pikeville, Tenn., died Saturday, May 15, 1999. He was 62.

He was retired from DuPont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Oma Holland; and a brother, Milton Holland.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Holland, Soddy-Daisy; two daughters, Deanna Gifford and Crystal Watson; his son, Jim 'Buck' Holland; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Johnson and Ila VanWinkle; two brothers, James Parker Holland and Wenton Holland, all of Pikeville.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. CST at Putnam-Reed Funeral Home in Pikeville with minister Paul Cagle officiating.

Visitation will be today after 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ollie Hooper
Ollie Mae Hooper of Hixson died Saturday, may 15, 1999, at a local hospital. She was 83.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with Minister Brad Blair officiating.

Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

LaQuita McReynolds
LaQuita McReynolds died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She was one year old.

She was the granddaughter of the late LaQuita Murphy.

Survivors include her mother Patrice L. McReynolds; father, Byron B. Murphy; brother, Marquis R. McReynolds; sister, Kayla L. Murphy; grandmother, Gwendolyn Anthony McReynolds; grandfather, George McReynolds; great-grandmothers, Mary McReynolds, Barbara King, Ida Bell Anthony and Geraldine Laster; great-grandfather, Bernard King; great-great-grandmother, Julia Chapman, all of Chattanooga; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at noon at Greenwood cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Siskin Preschool.

Susan Moser
Susan A. Moser died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at a Nashville hospital. She was 48.

Services will be today at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Carter Paden and the Rev. Hallie Warren officiating.

Internment will be at St. Peter's Memorial Garden.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Pre-School, 848 Ashland Terrace, P.O. Box 15338, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Coulter Chapel, Lane Funeral Home.

Mildred Porter
Mildred Florence Bradley Porter died Monday, May 17, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 81.

Arrangements will be announced by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends today after 2 p.m.

May Pouncy
May Bell Pouncy died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her residence. She was 85.

She was a Jehovah's Witness.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Eric Powell
Eric James Powell died Monday, May 17, 1999, at a local residence. He was 27.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he was a graduate of East Ridge High School and was attending Chattanooga State College.

He was a Methodist and the grandson of the late Tom and Bertie Wade and E.H. Powell.

Survivors include his parents, Jimmy E. and Nancy Powell; brother, Keith Powell; grandmother, Bertha Powell, all of Chattanooga.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Royce Powell officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City cemetery in Decatur, Tenn.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leon Rhodes
Leon G. Rhodes Sr. died Sunday, May 16, 1999. He was 86.

Mr. Rhodes was a retired machinist, a Baptist and was the husband of the late Beatrice B. Rhodes.

He had resided with his granddaughter Jo Ann Pippin in Memphis.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Elliott and Sharron Downing, both of Las Vegas; one son, Leon Rhodes Jr., Grants Pass, Ore.; two sisters, Sarah Carlteen Stapleton, Gainesville, Fla., and Hazel Dostlar, Hollywood, Fla.; one brother, Charles E. Rhodes, Ringgold, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Tyner cemetery with the Rev. Mel Crosson officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Charles Scruggs
Charles Edward Scruggs Sr., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 70.

CharlesScruggs He retired in 1990 from Moccasin Bend Sewage Plant after 28 years of service.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sutton, and a sister, Oneida Ferguson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Scruggs; one son, Charles E. Scruggs Jr., Tsu Mie, Japan; and two grandsons.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Donald Ferguson officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Rebecca Taylor Rebecca Taylor died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 94.

Fred Teschner
Fred C. Teschner of East Ridge, a veteran of World War I in the Coast Artillery, a track champion and a member of vaudeville, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at his home. He was 103.

Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clifford Herd and Mr. Robert Dintsch officiating.

Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Vinnie Yeager
Vinnie Mae Alder Yeager died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at her home. She was 88.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. CST at Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Whitwell with the Rev. Arthur Wood and the Rev. George Stratton officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hixson Presbyterian Church, 1005 Gadd Road, Hixson, TN 37343 or to Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 9005 Griffith Highway, Whitwell, TN 37397.

Eunice Baxter
MENTONE - Eunice Lusk 'Toots' Baxter died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at her home. She was 74.

She was the widow of Ernest Baxter, a housewife and a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Warren Baxter; daughter, Jackie Baxter; brother, Jack Lusk, all of Mentone; and a grandson.

A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. at Little River cemetery with the Rev. Steve Lusk officiating.

Burial will be in Little River cemetery.

Corine Barker
BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. - Corine Sutherland Barker, formerly of Dunlap, Tenn., died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in a hospital in Bullhead City. She was 82.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. CDT at Ewton Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Everhart officiating.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Susan Barrett
CHICAGO - Susan Rebecca Barrett died Thursday, May 13, 1999, in Chicago.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Roscoe Harris
AVON PARK, Fla. - Roscoe R. Harris of Avon Park, formerly of Spring City, Tenn., died in a nursing home there, Saturday, May 8, 1999. He was 78.

Mr. Harris was a carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sebring, Fla., and attended the Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Newby Harris.

Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Wiggins and Mary Singletary, both of Avon Park; three sisters, Mean Thurman and Alta Baker, Spring City, and Thelma Russell, South Pittsburg, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, Fla.

Arnold Vaughn
WYTHEVILLE, Va. - Arnold Floyd Vaughn, formerly of Ringgold, Ga., died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a health care facility in Virginia. He was 76.
