Maria Bradford
Maria M. Bradford of Hixson died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 72.

She was a native of Altenfelden, Austria, and a resident of Chattanooga for more than 29 years. She was a Catholic and a member of the Fairyland Duplicate Bridge Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Jack Bradford.

Survivors include her daughter, Sieglinda 'Linda' Bradford, Chattanooga; son, Christian Will Bradford, Atlanta; two sisters, Luise Schoch, Germany, and Rosina Innreiter, Austria; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Bob Hofstetter officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), 501 Front St., Norfolk, VA 23510.

Joe Brantley
Joe G. Brantley died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 84.

Mr. Brantley was a native of Toombs County, Ga., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from MSHA.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Soddy-Daisy and was the father of the late Peggy Brantley.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Loflin Brantley; son, Joe L. Brantley, Chattanooga; and four grandsons.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. C.K. Little and the Rev. Ronald Ragon officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Soddy-Daisy, 10612 Dayton Pike, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379.

Helen Clark
Helen Clark died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 81.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Penn, St. Albans, N.Y.; son, David Clark Jr., Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters, Annie Lee George and Marcella Freeman, both of Trenton, N.J.; and two brothers, Walter L. Fitch, Trenton, and Curtis Fitch, Reno, Nev.

A graveside service will be Monday at noon in Greenwood cemetery with the Rev. Sam Lewis officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

The body will be at the Central Avenue Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home after noon Sunday.

George Cordell
George M. Cordell died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at his home. He was 73.

Services will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Lupton Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Tate, the Rev. Randy Bell and the Rev. Milford Biddle officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

James Corlew
James B. Corlew died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 82.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Harry Green officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.

Bessie Davis Bessie Boyd Davis died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her home. She was 83.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Coy Higgins
Coy W. Higgins of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at his home. He was 86.

He was retired from Carpenters Local 74 and was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church, Soddy Masonic Lodge 418, Mayflower Chapter OES 141, past master of the lodge and past worthy patron of the Mayflower Chapter.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Higgins; two sons, Earl Higgins, Dallas, and Charles Higgins, McKinney, Texas; six daughters, Betty Gann and Judy May, both of Soddy-Daisy, Norma Weller, Hixson, Margaret Griffith and Lynda Masters, both of Decatur, Tenn., and Joyce Miller, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Oliver officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Patsy Horton
Patsy Ann Horton died Thursday, May 13, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 70.

Mrs. Horton, a native of Tyler, Texas, had lived in Chattanooga for the past three years. She was a graduate of John Tyler High School and attended Tyler Junior College for two years.

She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church, where she was a Stephen minister, and had been a deacon and elder at Raleigh Presbyterian Church in Memphis. She was a member of the Newcomers Club and the Memphis Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Horton; two daughters, Patricia Horton, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Karen Riales, Chattanooga; a son, Bill Horton, San Francisco; two sisters, Betty Durrett, Tyler, Texas, and Laura Opersteny, College Station, Texas; three brothers, Charles, Robert and Jerry Williamson, all of Tyler; and one grandson.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Rivermont Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Stansbury and the Rev. Lina Hart officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rivermont Presbyterian Church, 3319 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Gerald Jordan
Gerald Dewayne Jordan Jr. died Wednesday, May 12, 1999. He was 11.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with pastor W. McKinley Holloway officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.

Homer Keylon
Homer H. Keylon died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in an area health care facility. He was 92.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Edwards officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Blake Levi Walton
Blake Levi of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, May 13, 1999, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. He was 15.

Mr. Levi was a freshman at Soddy-Daisy High School, where he was a member of the freshman baseball team and the golf team. He was the son of the late Greg Levi and attended Burks United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Robin and Steve Burton; sister, Tricia Levi; brother, Bryce Levi, all of Soddy-Daisy; stepbrother and sister, Brad and Cassie Burton, both of Georgia; maternal grandparents, Jim and Cleo Walton, Laurel, Miss.; paternal grandparents, Tom and Barbara Levi, Soddy-Daisy; and paternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Levi, Red Bank.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Burks United Methodist Church with ministers Bill Greer, Wayne Blake and the Rev. Troy Hamilton officiating.

Burial will be in Card cemetery.

Arrangements are by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, Soddy-Daisy.

Pauline McClure
Pauline S. McClure, retired after 20 years as a bookkeeper for the state of Tennessee, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at her home. She was 74.

Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East, with Dr. Larry Draper and brother Charles Fiorello officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Essie Oliver
Essie Mae Oliver died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 92.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

David Smith David Brown Smith died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 71.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at First-Centenary United Methodist Church with Dr. Al Bowles and Dr. Nell Mohney officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402, or to CONTACT of Chattanooga, 6221 Vance Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, North.

Winfred Smith
Winfred C. 'Freddie' Smith died Thursday, May 13, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 54.

He was a native of Chattanooga and a graduate of East Ridge High School.

He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes, Ill., as a Hospitalman.

He retired from Lexmark International, Inc., in Lexington, Ky., in 1992 after 25 years of service and returned to Chattanooga.

While at Lexmark, Mr. Smith completed courses in Saditer Gas Chromatography, EDAX Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis and Photomicography from McCrane Research Institute.

He received the I.P.D. Award for S.E.M. Failure Analysis.

Survivors include a son, Erik Lee Smith; two daughters, Heather Smith and Crystal Smith, all of Lexington; his parents, Fred C. and Nina McCormick Smith, Sr., of East Ridge; and maternal grandmother, Ozelle McCormick, Chattanooga.

A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Chattanooga National cemetery with Dr. Dewayne Cole, pastor of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, officiating.

There will no visitation.

Arrangements will be announced by Covenant Funeral Service.

Rebecca Taylor
Rebecca Taylor died Friday, May 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 94.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Ray Waldrup Mrs. Ray Norris Waldrup died Thursday, May 13, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 97.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
